Do you have any names for big cities in Calastia? Part of the planned background is ex-street urchin.

I was planning on playing a character who has been evil (probably CE) and is now trying to do good (or some skewed version of good). So she'll be more grey-ish than evil per se.

I've always struggled to play evil PCs myself. It's hard not to portray them as Hammer Horror villains.

Ok, I'll let you know.

I'm still working on the character background at the mo, so I haven't decided on class and skills etc. I'd like to try Swordsage, but I still need to read it more closely.

I shouldn't ask, but why are just your clerics racist?

PS. I'm happy to go with a cleric if no one else wants to. I'll just twist the concept and make her a cleric/thief.

PPS. Actually that would only work if she worshipped an evil deity. Maybe not a good idea.

It does add stances and stuff. I don't think it's that complicated, but I've never had a chance to use ToB so I can't say for sure.

I might go for a multi-class fighter/thief instead (or maybe the ninja class from Complete Adventurer).

I'm definitely interested. I was thinking of a playing a Swordsage (from the Tome of Battle splatbook). Or some mixture of fighter and thief if you don't want Swordsagey goodness.

Wouldn't something called Yorkshire Brown Ale, actually have to be an ale brewed in Yorkshire?

There is actually a real Yorkshire ale called Hobgoblin (which is quite nice).

I watched the movie a couple of weeks ago, and yes it is enjoyable. But I falls some way short of LotR in my opinion.

The film is incredibly and unnecessarily long. It would have helped if a strong producer had been on hand to cut the movie by 30-40 minutes. As it is there's a lot of fluff and points where the movie is missing a strong, connecting narrative. This seemed particularly weird to me given that the book is relatively small and very simply written.

Secondly, and this isn't Peter Jackson's fault, but the film is missing a bit of menace. It's hard to get too worked up by a big bad orc and a nasty goblin when we've seen Balrogs, Ringwraiths and the Battle of Pelennor Fields.

I will definitely give this a go. I played the original games, but never did get to finish Throne of Bhaal (my PC at the time had a melt down).

Of course nowadays I only have a Mac, so I guess I'll have to wait and wait...

Perhaps you're right, and the new SW films did accomplish what they set out to do. But, will anyone in 20 years time be buying their kids toys of Jar Jar Binks? Or waxing lyrically about the exciting, tension-filled discussions in the Jedi Council?

Somehow I doubt it.

Of course all Hollywood-funded films are money-making enterprises. But, it is possible to make intelligent films that make money (the recent Batman films). Or even have new takes on old classics that don't completely torch the cherished memories of its fans (the recent Muppets movie for instance).

*Must not talk about Phantom Menace...*

(PS. I recall there being a Phantom Menace conversation on rdinn back in 2000. I think I was hopeful that the next one would be better. I was wrong ... )

Are those arguments I had with people (a couple are relatives who don't deserve the title) that actually prefer the more recent Star Wars trilogy to the old.

And then of course there's the Twilight stuff ...

Well you've got an applaud from me, solely to make up for someone else's smite.

I'm not in any way religious and I don't get really get 'it'. But everyone ought to be free to express whatever they want to express and in whatever way they want to express it (I think that last sentence makes sense).

Happy Canada Day for the Canadians out there. I half-expected to hear stories of Canadians trying to burn down the White House a la 1812, but fortunately (or perhaps sadly) that was not to be.
