Solvy just read your last post. I know Arcsheva has the mobility feat but I think she may suffer some attacks of opportunity.

Something was wrong.

It was not the tide of battle since it had already begun to turn against the slavers. Whatever images had run through the muscle-bound orc’s mind after Aelistae had cast her spell had sent the creature running in terror. His companion, facing Linnix, was finally beginning to succumb to the numerous wounds that littered his torso, and even the feature-less wizard was beginning to flag.

No, it was Nash.

“Nau…,” Aelistae whispered, her voice choking with the fear and horror that she felt as the man’s form contorted in pain and then metamorphosed into a cruel parody of what he had been. There was no more kindness in Nash’s eyes or his face but a dark, malevolence that reveled in the slaughter it wreaked. Aelistae had seen such things before. She knew what the cause was. And it scared her.

A swing from the auctioneer suddenly whistled at her head, and Aelistae barely twisted away in time to avoid the blow. Had the human been more skilled he would have killed her while her mind was elsewhere. But he wasn’t, and he hadn’t, and Aelistae was determined not to repeat her mistake.

OOC: A simple melee attack at the orc (if she can reach it). Otherwise she'll attack the auctioneer.

I do have to say that the map as it is is really confusing!

So any alternative would be better I think.

Yes I just looked it up in SC.

It's a useful spell but it's still a DC 29 Use Magic Device check. Or if Aelistae tried to use it, it'd be a DC 10 caster level check.

It'll also cost 2150 gp for one scroll (I think).

I still think we should wait and become more experienced before considering it. What do others think?

Well the costs associated with raise dead and resurrection are only partly to do with finding a 9th or 13th level cleric who can cast the spell. Buying a scroll isn't ideal since none of us (even those with use magic device) could cast it with any degree of certainty.

The real cost are the material costs of a 5000 gp worth of diamonds for raise dead and 10,000 gp worth of diamonds for resurrection. When you add that to the cost of paying a cleric to cast the spell (or convincing her to do so!), it's way beyond our means currently.

I do agree, though, that as we become more powerful setting money aside for it is a good idea.

Subject: Why couldn't the slavers have been halflings?

A spray of blood cavorted in the air where her blade had bit into orc-flesh, but Aelistae had little time to savour the fact. The hulking creature responded with a furious swing with his club that connected so solidly it lifted her off her feet.

Aelistae shook her head, as she reeled backwards from the blow, her long, silvery hair spinning wildly around her. As her vision cleared she saw that Nash had already scythed through a number of the slavers, the auctioneer had been eviscerated into ash by a giant ball of flame, and the woman responsible for summoning it was standing in the cage with her.

There was no time to time to query who she was, however, or how she had arrived there. A quick nod of thanks was all she could manage, before Aelistae began an incantation of her own.

“Orthae Eilistraee, morfeth ukta treemma l'vharc avuna d'l'vassnti,”* she mouthed quickly, pointing at the orc who had obviously benefitted from wizardly magic.

OOC: * “Holy Eilistraee, make him fear the righteous fury of the wronged.”

5’ step back for Aelistae and she’s casting Cause Fear at the unwounded orc.

1. Sadly not.

2. It's one per week.

3. It's something I've advocated but Kaelyn will spend them on his villains and monsters and that's not a good thing...

Oh and welcome to the game Deucalion!

Her sword danced through the air, magic fizzed back and forth and spiked clubs rained down on Aelistae and Linnix. The drow priestess managed to nimbly avoid the uncultured swings of the orcs besetting them, but Linnix was not so lucky. Two blows from the hulking brute battered into her, and almost lifted the young woman off her feet.

“Nau,” Aelistae muttered under her breath as she slipped her blade through the orc’s guard once more, “olorn tlu dos nindel rel.”*

A shriek and a flash of light alerted the drow woman that there was something amiss behind her. But Aelistae could not afford to let her attention be diverted – not when the life of her friends was at risk.

OOC: *"No, you will be the one that falls."

Just another attack on the orc facing Linnix. I was thinking of taking a 5' step back and casting a spell, but that would expose Linnix to more attacks and I'd like to avoid that if I can.

I'm sad to see both Kas and Loriel die. They've come close in the past, but for two of our characters to finally slip away is disheartening.

As for resurrections...I'm really not sure we could afford it or if DM and Bri would like to bring those characters back rather than creating new ones. As it is Aelistae, Linnix, and Solvy's new character (sorry I don't know her name yet) might be in their own spot of bother. So it'd be something to decide when we know if they have survived.

It's not something that bothers me really.

Personally I think that we should level up (if at all) at moments when our characters would have the 'downtime' to practice their skills etc.

I never understood how many adventurers level in the middle of a dungeon.

"So what you're saying is that your character took a breath in between combats, and suddenly realized he could tumble? Uhuh..."

Oh and sorry for any spoilers Solvy!

Welcome to the game Solvy!

Now if Aelistae wasn't so committed to following Eilistraee's dictates, it would be amusing to have her thank the slavers by enslaving them. As it is we'll have to content herself to looting their corpses instead.

“Nash,” Aelistae whispered, her voice tinged with both relief and fear. She had longed to see him again after he had slipped away in her sleep, and there was no better time for him to make his appearance. But, as he disappeared beneath a hail of blows, she knew that his bravery would cost him his life she did nothing.

“Olath Jallil, jous mina l'roesor nind inbal thryarus nindyn inbal enrothe,”* the priestess intoned, as she clenched her fist around the tears she brushed off Linnix’s cheek and lightly touched the broach she wore upon her dress - depicting a naked drow female dancing before a full moon.

With the spell cast she quickly moved to the door of the cell, picked up her sheathed courtblade, and drew it all in one effortless motion.

The slaver responded by trying to cow his captives back into the cell, and summoned a few of his acolytes to do just that. But Aelistae’s course was set. She would rather die in battle than be a slave. And, she realized, she would rather die than live on without Nash in her life.

OOC: * “Dark Lady, show them the sorrow they have caused all those they have enslaved”.

The spell Aelistae is casting is ‘Wave of Grief’. According to the spell description it is a 30’ cone, so Linnix will be exempt from it. Aelistae will try and direct it to affect the 4 adversaries she and Linnix are facing, and as many of Nash’s opponents as possible.

Casting the spell is a standard action, so she’ll use a move action and 5’ step to get to the door and pick up her sword. Finally she’ll draw her weapon as a free action thanks to the crystal in it. I figure that picking up her sword may trigger an attack of opportunity, but she’s happy to risk that.

Aelistae’s face was contorted into a mask of rage and anger while her fingers remained in place around Linnix’s throat. But her charade – however elaborate it had been – had had little effect. Her value it seemed had only increased in the eyes of the slavers and their patrons, who were all keen to sell and buy a ‘genuine drow’.

“Jallil belbau uns'aa z'ress,”* she muttered as she loosened her grip around Linnix’s neck and carefully scooped up the tears the woman had shed.

“Whatever happens when they try to take me away, stay with me. I will not leave you…either of you,” she whispered to the women she had been locked away with.

OOC: *"Lady give me strength."

Tazi rolled the small metal badge in her hand. It was pretty in its own way. One side of it was gilt in gold and displayed the black ‘I’ of the Inquisition, and the other the intricate symbol of the Inquisitor she now served.

“…My new life,” she mumbled, unsure whether she should feel happy or sad at finally being given an assignment by Øravik. On the one hand she knew she would be doing the God-Emperor’s work, and would get to see Holy Terra itself. But on the other she knew she was now bound to the Inquisition and could never return to the life she had led before.

‘Not that that amounted to much,’ she thought bitterly. ‘A cold bunk, hours of prayer and all the beatings I could stomach. And before that….’

An alarm suddenly sounded throughout the ship, and echoed through the small chambers that she had been granted as her private quarters. It reported that a lockdown was about to commence, and finished with the bellowing voice of Inquisitor Øravik. “Piscivorus get to deck 29, NOW!"

Tazi rolled her eyes as she reached for a belt holding a sheathed sword and holstered laspistol, and a bandolier bedecked with an array of grenades.

‘By the Emperor, that woman needs to get laid. Or at least someone to pull that stick from out of her ass,’ she found herself thinking as she ran through the door, and towards the lift that led to Deck 29.
