Star Trek cleary presented a Utopian vision of the future, of that there's no doubt. And, even if it didn't appeal to you, I would argue that's precisely where it's attraction lay.

Right back in the original series, Roddenberry presented a world free of hunger, racial prejudice, sexism (well apart from the skimpy skirts and the bodice-ripping Kirk), dictatorships etc. It was a radical vision of the future that spoke to the present because we (living in that present) could not dare to dream of overcoming these divisions.

Just think about it for a moment. A black woman as a bridge officer, a Russian as a pilot, a Japanese as another officer - during the height of the Cold War, when segregation was very much in effect, and memories of the Second World War was still fresh.

You can argue that it's a fantasy or too perfect a vision of the future. But frankly it does no one any harm to dream of a better world.

I'm a bit of a closet Trekkie (that sounds kinky to my ears for some reason...) and I do think it looks awesome.

The fact that they have a really good cast of actors helps of course.

I tried to answer it truthfully and not be too risque, and ended up with Aphrodite.

Shianna and Syana are similar names, though, so I'm not surprised some people thought that you may be confused. I know I am (sometimes).

Is there going to be an update today?

Sorry I misread the update. I only thought one of those still up had been wounded.

Neri's actions still stand. She'll try and kill off the one attacking Syana, before moving on to others.

I think that Isaac's plan is fine as it goes. But I have the feeling, out of character, that these zombies are just going to follow us, and that there may be more lurking in the mist.

Battle was joined and Neri sprang forward to enter the fray. Her blade was held high in what the Drannese called ‘ the ‘posizione di falcone’ – the guard of the hawk – ready to sweep down at a moment’s notice. And that’s precisely what it did as first Aryan staggered one of the zombies with her magic, and then Neri cleaved it in two with one heavy strike of her large sword.

But it seemed to do little good. Her companions fared less well in their battles with the shambling corpses. Syana took a heavy blow, and despite her companions' best efforts only one other zombie fell. What was worse, was that eight more undead monsters shambled into view, each with the same murderous intent as the four that had preceded them..

“Great…they’ve brought friends…” Neri managed, between a couple more blows of her sword aimed at the creature threatening Syana.

Isaac shouted his intention to cleave a way through so that the others could retreat, or try to escape, and Neri found it difficult to disagree.

“If you can get the others to safety, do so. I’ll try and cover your escape.”

[OOC: Neri will swing at the wounded zombie first (unless someone else brings it down, and then try to pick off some others. She’ll try and focus on any zombies threatening/about to threaten the non-fighter types in the party. If the others do try to escape she’ll try and stay behind to ensure they get a good head-start, before trying to do so herself. She is a paladin after all. ]

Names are a little tough to remember in a new game (excluding the whole 'beard' issue ) so I'm not too bothered about typos etc. in that department.

That said, Isaac did refer to 'Keri' when I think he meant Neri.

I like the third one that Wyrm made. I also think Olan's is pretty good.

Unless the goblins have the combat reflexes feat they'll only be able to take one aoo in a round. Of course 5 aoos all on Aelistae will hurt. :/

Maybe it'll better for Dylan to flex those awesome melee muscles again?

Yep I have a serious question too. How decomposed are the zombies? Do they look as if they've come straight from a grave, or could they be freshly killed villagers?

The mists closed in and so did the ‘travellers’ shambling down the narrow trail. But as Volkmar’s heavy boot fell snapped a twig in the undergrowth, and the figures ahead emerged from the gloom, it soon became apparent that they were anything but farmers or merchants. Their flesh hung as sodden lumps of clay upon their frames, and, in parts, it was missing altogether. What was worse was the unmistakeable hunger that tinged their otherwise dead, lifeless eyes.

Neri, however, was not afraid. She could hear and sense the fear of some of her companions nearby, and the quiet fury of others. But Neri was a picture of serene calm.

“Stay calm and stay together,” she muttered, as she drew her large two-handed sword, “there may be others out there.” But her warning was sounded too late. Isaac had already rushed to confront the walking corpses, and Neri, after taking a moment to ensure that nothing else was coming up behind them, found that she had no choice but to do the same.

[OOC: Neri is drawing her sword and heading off to confront the undead beasties as well. I think Shiana only has a 50% chance of turning each zombie, so it’s likely that there will be some critters left that need splatting.]

Ooh, ooh, can we have some pink, fluffy were-bunnies?

Or even better some zombies riding on pink were-bunnies. Hopping death.

There's too many to stand up without provoking 5 attacks of opportunity. From what Kaelyn told me on msn the situation is as follows (imagine this to be 3x3):

Goblin: Goblin: Empty
Goblin: Aelistae: Artanis
Goblin: Goblin: Empty

...with Dylan somewhere to the right of Artanis. So Sib's plan could work.

I have no idea if Dylan dragging Aelistae would provoke attacks of opportunity on her or just on Dylan though.

Okies that's good to know.

Nice of those villagers to send out a welcoming committee. Of course it could have been something other than a bunch of zombies looking for fresh brains, but beggars can't be choosers right?
