Neri is fine with going through the forest. I might get a post up along those lines later today, or I may not.

As for the whole spear/walking stick thing, the fact that it's all sharp and pointy at one end might give away the idea that it's a walking stick.

It is five characters that have died (Bri and DM's character twice and Arcsheva), but one of those was because a player disappeared. So the mortality rate isn't that high really.

I wasn't aware that Aelistae had been the de facto leader though.

Is the forest that surrounds the trail thick, or quite light?

I was just thinking that it might be tricky to lead a horse through a forest that is overly thick, and also very tough to navigate too in the fog/mist.

‘Hold your grandmother’s bible to your breast,
Going to put it to the test,
You want it to be blessed…’

The soft words of the song rods melodiously around the warm, well-furnished room as she slipped from silken sheets to stand on the cool, naked floor. She was beautiful. Her body was lean, athletic, olive-skinned, and topped with long raven-black hair and immersive, expressive green eyes. Her features were delicate, lips full and wine red, breasts and hips in accord with a classical sculpture – a vision which, in Drannon, would have been called a paean to the age of the Anathari.

“I’d rather hold you to my breast, Neri” a voice behind her replied, and launched a gentle trail of kisses along her spine. The lips rose to her neck, but she eased her way out of reach, no longer allowing herself to enjoy that caress.

“There are others waiting for me, Marcus.”

“How…how can you be so cold? After our night together, after what we did?”

“It was just one night,” she responded calmly as she gathered the clothing that had been discarded so hurriedly the night before. “One night to share our warmth, to warm our souls in this dark world with each other’s love. And to ensure that you keep to the vow you made. Your wife needs you, and if I find out that you’ve left her, you won’t be using that thing between your legs for a while.”

‘You already knew how this would end,’ she threw over her shoulder as she left the room, a soft whimper accompanying the words.

---

‘I wonder if he ever did stay faithful,’ Neri mused into the warm, clammy air. She stared up at the sky for a moment, allowing the spiralling rain to fall upon her face and worm its way beneath the heavy chain of her armour. It did little to cool her down, though, just remind her of how much she wished to remove it and lie beneath silken sheets with someone by her side.

A warning from Shianna disturbed the train of her thoughts, and focused her attention on the here and now. Up ahead four tired looking figures were emerging from the mist, and both Shianna and Syana, her fellow Corian, seemed adamant that they and the village that were heading to ought to be avoided.

“I don’t know about you,” Neri chimed in after Isaac and Aryan had voiced their thoughts, “but I would rather spend the night somewhere where it’s dry and where it’s a little cooler. If you’re right and there is something strange in the air, then maybe there’s people in the village who need our help?”

The pretty Drannese woman wheeled in the saddle of her horse expertly, and landed on the earth with a sludgy thud. Her horse, Aurora, seemed relieved of the burden of carrying the armoured woman and nickered into the air gratefully.

“I don’t think you should go alone though,” Neri added, choosing to ignore the mare’s antics. “If there is danger ahead there’s no certainty we will find you in this mist, and the sound may not carry to us. No, we should go together.”

The woman threw her hood back, and loosened her cloak to give her more room to draw the huge five feet long sword strapped to her back. It also served to reveal the white tabard she wore displaying a heart above an unsheathed sword.

“Shall we go?”

[The words to the song come from Devotcha's 'How it Ends', so I can't claim credit for them ]

I was discussing this with Kaelyn a while ago, but I forgot to bring it up here.

What we need is a name for our party. Like 'Thundercats' or the 'A-Team' ...except without actually becoming cats or BA Baracus.

Unfortunately I can't think of anything except 'One man and his gnome' and that, whilst amusing, doesn't really fit.

Subject: Not the end...

It was a strange feeling. One moment Aelistae had been floating high above the world, sword in her hands, melancholic song upon her lips, as she prepared to meet her end. In the other she was falling. She felt the touch of the Lolthite upon her breast, the blind inertia caused by her wings disappearing, and her breath slip from her lips as she crashed to earth.

But she lived.

Something soft had unexpectedly broken her fall, and, though she could feel her life’s blood slip away, it was not the end.

“…Not the end,” Aelistae repeated in a quivering whisper, unsure whether she should laugh or cry. Tears flooded her eyes as she forced a trembling, half-crushed hand to reach for the simple black leather belt she wore, and flood her body with its curative magic. And, as bones and flesh re-knit themselves, she could not stop a smile from tugging at the corner of her lips.

The drow priestess struggled to gain her bearings, her ears picking up the bestial snarls of goblin and orc nearby, and something else – a gentle harmony and the soft, baritone voice of Dylan.

“Dylan?” she shouted, spinning her sword above her to ward off potential blows. “Dylan, I can’t see. The Lolthite cursed me with a disease and took my eyes.”

[Aelistae will use all the charges on her healing belt to cure 4d8 hp. I figure Aelistae has enough knowledge of clerical spells and healing lore to know that she has been diseased rather than cursed.

Since Kaelyn informed me just how many critters are around Aelistae, standing up from prone will provoke a flurry of aoos. So in order to avoid that, Aelistae is going to attack while prone in subsequent rounds. Since she’s hasted that’ll mean 2 attacks a round, albeit with the penalties of being blind.]

Oh and I don't think Bolrikar has been enlarged. Kaelyn termed him an orgrillion in his last post, which makes a lot of sense, as that would mean he's an orc-ogre crossbreed.

Of course why or how an orc would choose to mate with an ogre (or vice versa) is something I'd rather not think about...

I hate drow.

Does Xaris have a remove disease potion at all? I figure Aelistae will murmur something about her current condition.

No worries. I have a feeling that Talus' arcane bolt thingy might have fizzled against the Lolthite's spell resistance anyhow.

It's an interesting theory that Talus has got, but I think it's far more likely that the Lolthite is subtly pulling the strings here. The idea of having webs of deceit on deceit is something that would amuse the Spider Queen after all. And what would be more deceptive than setting up an orc (orc-giant thing?) as a god, and getting lowly goblins to worship him in order to harm feeble surface creatures?

That would be what Aelistae (and myself) would probably make of the situation at any rate.

Well for obvious reasons I'd love for Talus to snipe at the Lolthite priestess with his eldritch blasts.

I have a feeling that the boulders Bolrikar is throwing are heavier and heftier than 60 lbs, if only because he managed to crush Atharam's squire and his horse in one hit.

Whatever you decide, I don't think we should waste too may resources on killing the grunts (unless we absolutely have to). The enemy have revealed their full hand, and we should respond accordingly by trying to knock off the drow witch and the over-fed orc asap.

Yeah now we're doomed. Cheers Chris.

I was just thinking that it might be an idea for people to bounce ideas/strategy of one another (if people don't mind the slight metagaming that involves).

Subject: "Love is a word that is fearless on my breath..."

High above the Keep the duel had begun between the two drow. Both looked so much alike – with their ebony skin and silvery hair – but felt and thought and loved so differently.

Aelistae’s new wings propelled her swiftly through the air. The blade she held danced in her hands and soared unerringly towards its mark. But the other drow was ready for her. Her sword’s keen edge was turned away with a cruel smile, and with another the Lolthite sent a wave of nausea rolling through Aelistae. And then…

…Darkness.

Aelistae cried out as her eyes lost all sight and as her mind plunged into a darkness of its own. Images flashed in her mind’s eye of her time as a child horrified by the dark hearts of her own people; as a young adult left alone as her House and family burned all around her; as a woman wandering alone in the Underdark.

“And in the end I’m going to die alone…and in darkness…” she whispered. She felt so alone, so cold, so numb that the tears upon her face were the only thing she could feel. Even the sword that she cherished so much wavered precariously in her hands.

“Sister, get out of there!” a voice arose from the dark, caressing her numb ears with its message of love and of friendship.

‘No, not alone…never alone’ a voice within Aelistae answered, ‘and in the end, even at the end of all things, there will be a light waiting for you…’

“There is hope,” Aelistae murmured, teardrops still upon her damask cheeks, “there is hope….” And as if a fire had been lit within her, she felt some of her strength return. Her hands tightened around the hilt of her sword and she raised it in defiance. She was blind, and she knew she may die, but she would never be beaten.

“Love, love is a verb, “ she sang in the human tongue, her voice soaring high, impossibly high, above the din of battle.

“Love, love is a verb,
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath.
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me, makes me lighter
Fearless on my breath.”

The words came to a close as a vial was brought to her lips and she drank its contents, but returned soon after. She knew she may die, but she would not die alone.

“Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath….”

OOC: Apologies to Massive Attack for pilfering the words to Teardrop. If you want to know the tune to which Aelistae is singing though, you can find the song on youtube.

Aelistae is going to take a 5’ ‘step’ back and drink her potion of haste. After that she’s going to swing at the Lolthite. Her plan is to hold her actions until she knows the Lolthite is casting (since she’ll have to speak some words in drow) or until she can guess where she is, and then try and cut her down with her two attacks in a round. It isn’t a brilliant plan, but, if Aelistae is going to die, I’d like to have her go out in a fitting manner.

Jozan's idea is a good one. The only reason I'm suggesting it might be a good idea is that the enemy has revealed his full hand and it would help the likes of Xaris to get to Bolrikar. And it might help the blinded Aelistae too (if she can hear his song/music above the din of battle).

Well now that Bolrikar is out and about, we do need to throw everything we have at the enemy. So some singing from Dylan would be nice too , and maybe it's time for Super Gnome to take a sip of his draught of liquid awesomeness and start raging!

Apart from that I'm all out of ideas! Umm...except for Aelistae but I'll let you in on that when I post.
