But...but...drow are cuddly! Why would Atharam want to smite one at all?

It's cool there's going to be a post up soon though.

Yeah it was good...except for the fact that it was set to the tune of the most annoying song ever.

I just hate James Blunt. And I'm not the only one. His name has become part of Cockney Rhyming Slang, and the association with 'blunt' isn't too flattering.

I'm sure we were at the northern gate too. But I may be wrong in that.

Quite a funny message from the chap that played the Corsairs:

Arrgh! The party be over and the kegs are empty...and me ships be stolen by frilly elves. It be a sad day and a very long walk home.

Grab yer boots lads...your gonna need 'em.

Well even if Bronwyn did have another fireball, why would she cast one at the keep when she would know it would engulf people fighting the goblins and the man she just helped to free from them?

That would be some strange logic I think.

*coughs* Sadly that last message was completely wrong. Just got word that the Dark Servants have definitely quit. Since tomorrow I'll get the final turn, and all the other end of game stuff, I'll post a detailed report of all that happened (without censoring anything out), after I get it.

The victory message when it came was short, but nice all the same.

Hi All,
the DS in game 76 have surrendered. I had heard from most of them last week but I hadn't heard from a few so I wanted to wait to be sure. The game will be ending tomorrow, each of you have the choice of running a final turn or a special service turn (which is free). If you have already sent in orders please let me know if you no longer want to run orders.

Rob

Ooh and feel free to read through the game forum. It's here, and I'm Paranoid Android there.

I haven't ever played or even considered playing a warlock before, but I have to say that Talus' posts do make the class seem really funky.

Subject: Pathfinder RPG - a new version of 3.5 ed.

I may have mentioned Pathfinder before, but I thought I'd do so again since the Beta version has been released for download.

Basically what Pathfinder is, is an attempt by Paizo and associated game designers who were disgruntled by 4th edition to create a new version of the D&D d20 system. The idea is to iron out some of the flaws of 3rd and 3.5 ed. while allowing people to easily convert characters/campaigns to it.

I personally think it looks awesome, and the Beta version of the game (the release date is for next year) is available as a free pdf download here.

So check it out! And if you have any ideas/improvements post them on to the forum.

So Elendil shot Aelistae. Just as well Aelistae's not the vengeful type, otherwise...

I remember that game!

I played my namesake in that (I think).

Heh, I was just looking over Wardrums and remembered the bright idea I had at the time - 'I'l create a new ID for this character.' That worked right until I forgot the password.

Strange seeing some of those old games. Especially Wardrums in Sendria, which was a really funky one.

Aelistae darted towards the keep like a shadow emboldened by the setting Sun. Her dark form flitted from cover to cover – an upturned tree, a narrow ditch – until she found herself reaching her goal. But she had not been careful enough. The light from the keep illuminated her form, and, almost as soon as it had done so, two arrows hurtled towards her.

“Ah!” the drow woman exclaimed as one of the arrows grazed her cheek. Aelistae quickly looked back and saw two figures huddled beyond the tree-line, with an even larger form behind them.

“Snipers,” she hissed to her companions, as she gestured towards where the arrows had come from. But it was more of a warning than a call-to-arms. Aelistae knew that were she to confront them, she would risk leaving those she cared for to an uncertain fate.

It was just as well. When the drow priestess turned and finally entered the keep, she found that the battle had already begun. A cacophonous roar signaled Xaris’ charge into a multitude of goblins, orcs and gnolls, and from the east a trio of humans and a surface elf were battling for their survival.

‘Whol Il’Valsharess tu’jol l’Phor Siyannen!’* Aelistae sang, as she joined her blade with those of her friends.

[*‘For the Queen beyond the Stars Above!’

Aelistae is charging into battle to make best use of Xaris’ thunderstone. Since there are so many targets it doesn’t make too much sense specifying which one Aelistae wil go for. But she will try and cut a path from where she is now (at the northern gate) towards the others fighting the gobbos (ie Atharam and co.)]

As an outsider looking in, I tend to think the low tone of the US election is just a way of avoiding saying anything of substance. And that's something that cuts across both parties.

It seems to me that both sides and the US media are so accustomed to treating the US electorate as idiots that they feel it's of little worth focusing on the issues. So instead we hear that Obama might be a Muslim, Palin's youngest child might actually be her daughter's, McCain is senile...etc.

Huh?...Mighty bard? Where?

...Just kidding we all love Dylan. He makes us all look so much better.

On a more serious note, I am anxious about this fight and about Kaelyn's next update. Somehow I don't think it's going to be quite as easy as the ones we've just been in.

Well it's just as well that there are some hold-outs then.

The Corsairs in particular want to play on for a turn or two, and I fancy Harad will too. Which is good, because it means I can finally use those huge armies I lovingly built up....Mwuahahaahahahaha!

Well after 8 months of the game and 16 turns, the Dark Servants have surrendered!

Here's the communique we received:

Okay Freeps - we are unanimous in conceding defeat. Once again - very well done!

I am extremely impressed with two things - your coordination to bring so much force to bear at Dol Guldur on turn 3 (the campaign against the Dragon Lord in general) and your complete depression of the market. Great teamwork was required for both!

Good luck in your next games!

Doug - Blind Sorcerer

There's still 1 turn left after this, in which we'll just go through the motions and rack up victory points. So I'll comment after that's all done and final standings are computed etc. (around a fortnight from now).

After turn 16 was received, the Dark Servants have communicated that they may give up the fight.

The message from the chap that plays the Blind Sorceror was:

'We are voting whether to continue or not. I agree that it is lost. You all have played an excellent game and there are too many factors against us. If we could just have managed to get the market higher than 1, I would be voting to continue, but as it is now, we are reduced to 325 everything every turn and it is not enough to raise enough troops to slow your armies while our characters destroy them.

We should have an answer for you in a few days.'

...It's nice of course that we're that close to victory. But a little frustrating that I won't be able to use the huge armies that I've assembled.

On the plus side my nation currently has 1683 victory points, so I may well finish on top of every other nation.

I'll let you know more if/when the DS do throw in the towel.

Subject: They started the party without us...*sniffs*

Aelistae had only turned her back for a moment, to tie Daisy’s reins to a low-lying branch. But in that short time all nine hells, it seemed, had broken loose. A burning conflagration swept over the keep, searing through compacted mortar and goblin flesh alike. The remaining goblins scurried as if to repel an invader. And in the distance her drow ears could hear a warcry that no goblin or orc would ever utter.

“We have no more time,” Aelistae whispered with a hint of sadness in her voice as she took one last look at her companions. They had been through so much together, had lost so much, that it pained her to think that some might never live to see a new day.

“We have to go now if we are to make what we have been through mean something. May the Lady watch over you all this night, usst’abbilen*.”

Her sword slipped from its sheath with a feint metallic ring. With a few graceful strides her pace was set, and she found herself hurtling towards the keep and an uncertain future.

[*‘My friends.’

Since the northern gate is 100’ away, Aelistae can sprint the distance in one round – which is exactly what she’s doing. She is also drawing her sword as a free action. She isn’t going to move so far that she draws attacks of opportunity (well hopefully not). She’ll be stopping as soon as she manages to get past the gates.]
