Don't worry too much about the post DA. It was fine.

And sorry I didn't heal Intella, Dwibius. But I'm hoping that we can all retreat back to our camp site and deal with that issue there.

Sorry for tempting the gods of dice-rolling earlier on Sib!

But you have to admit it was kind of funny that Dylan was the only one to get seriously hurt by the puny goblins.

Aelistae rushed into the clearing, her silvery hair trailing behind her. She was tempted to converse with the halfling she had spied earlier, or tend to the wounds of her companions, but she knew that she had precious little time. If the sound of the drum had carried before it had been silenced, then the whole area would be crawling with goblinoids in a matter of minutes.

“We have to be quick,” she commented in an urgent tone as she neared where Artanis and the halfling woman stood. “We should check the orcs, and the tents in which the filthy creatures stayed. They may have something of value, or something to explain what’s leading them. But then we need to leave this place. More goblins or orcs could be on their way.”

Aelistae’s drow eyes settled for a moment upon the halfling, as she slung her bow across her shoulder and drew her sword. “I wish there were time for longer introductions, Sister, but I can assure you I mean you no harm. If you wish to come with us when we leave this place then you’re welcome to do so. If not, then I thank you for the help you gave.”

The drow priestess nodded at the halfling, before turning to the largest of the tents and entering inside.

[Aelistae is going to have a look at what was the cause of the drumming sound. I’ll decide what to do, when and if I know the answer. ]

Improvisation is one funky spell! The fact you can use it in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways makes it really useful.

I couldn't resist having Aelistae confuse Intella for a goblin. After all, Dwibius does have a goblin as his/her avatar...

Subject: Damn goblin drum-beating bards! :P

Two arrows thudded into the midriff of the goblin, sending it spinning through the air and coming to a final rest upon the cold earth. There was no gloating or moment of exultation from Aelistae. She found little pleasure in killing creatures that individually posed her little harm, and she was more concerned with how the battle was going elsewhere.

She could see the whole battlefield in the familiar greys of her darkvision. Almost a dozen goblins and orcs had fallen in the first seconds of their attack. It even seemed for a moment as if the creatures were turning on each other, until Aelistae realized that the tiny creature doing the goblins harm was a halfling rather than a goblin. The diminutive figure fought well, her every movement filled with twisting feints and penetrating counters.

But then the tide seemed to turn. The orc who hadn’t been felled barked commands to rally the goblinoids, and a heavy drum began to beat in answer.

“Xsa!” Aelistae exclaimed, recognizing the danger that drum posed if the still night air carried it to the other goblin camps.

“Artanis!” she added, “Aim for the orc! Try to bring it down. I’ll silence the drum.”

Her words fell into quiet melodic prayer, as she tried to do just that.

[OOC: ‘Xsa’ is a little rude, so I won’t bother translating it.

Aelistae is going to cast ‘Silence’ and centre the spell on the tent in which the drum is beating. After that she’ll try to shoot the orc and keep an eye out for any sign of goblins approaching from the trail behind her.]

Aelistae will probably cast silence to hush the sound of the war drum, but it might be a little too late. What we want to avoid is lingering too long at the camp, so if we don't manage to kill off the orcs in the next few rounds, we might want to consider retreating.

I'm not so worried about killing off the goblins, since they are pushovers. ...After all even Dylan killed one.

“Very well,” Aelistae whispered with a nod in Xaris’ direction. “Although be careful. Even Orcs can be dangerous if you underestimate them.”

“As for me,” she added, as she unslung her bow and tested its pull, “I’m going to practice my archery. At least until any goblins wander over to the path to pay me a visit.”

Aelistae's intention was to go ranged yes. If any gobbos wander near her, though, she'll probably switch to melee (seeing as she can drop her bow and draw her sword as a free action).

“That was amazing,” Artanis murmured to Aelistae after she had woven her spell and repaired the bridge. “Please, thank your Goddess for me, for all the help she has given us throughout our travels.”

The drow priestess cocked her head. She had lost count of how many tendays it had been since she had left the Promenade, and had cast herself in a world that was not forgiving of her kind. She had been spat upon, chased through towns by mobs, and any thanks she had received had been grudging and forced. But Artanis’ words were different. They held the promise of genuine acceptance.

“I…thank you I will,” she managed in response, although the warm smile that played itself over lips said more than any words could.

---

[A short while later…]

“It might be best if I go too,” Aelistae suggested, after Artanis specified the need of eliminating the goblins near the trail. “You’ll need someone with you who can see in this light. But also it makes sense to have some more bodies blocking that trail in case any goblins or orcs try and run through it.”

“If the rest of you can circle around and hit the camp from the other side, we can catch the camp in a cross-fire. It should prevent any organized response.”

Apologies for not posting already, I've had a really hectic last few days, and haven't even had the chance to read the last few posts. I will, though, post now-ish (or in the next hour or two).

It may be a bit belated, but welcome to the game Dwibius. And welcome back DA, it's great to have you back!

‘Strange that someone so small and unassuming can be so fearsome in battle,’ Aelistae found herself thinking as Xaris shared his thoughts on her plan. She remembered the stories that had been told in her House of the cunning and ferocity of the svirfneblin that laired near Menzoberrenzen. But upon coming to the surface she had come to believe that such stories were lies woven to embitter the hearts of drow against them. Now, after witnessing Xaris’ own cunning and ferocity, she wondered if those stories didn’t hold some truth to them after all.

“I’m glad you agree, Xaris” she commented with a nod of appreciation. “I should be able to ensure that no sound escapes when we fight the bugbear and his pets. But even still, we’ll want to be quick.”

“That’s a lot of goblins,” Aelistae concluded after listening to Xaris and Linnix describe all that they had seen. “There are larger groups of goblins kept as slaves in the cities of the Drow, but it is only by repeated reminders of the power of the Spider Queen that they are kept subjugated. Here it seems that ‘Thrull’ – or whatever it is that leads them – has split them into small camps to keep them easy to manage.”

“That, I think,” Aelistae continued, “ is something we can exploit. If we can eliminate the goblin patrols and then the bugbear giving the orders, each camp will be cut off from each other. After that we can attack a camp, retreat, gather our strength, and attack another.”

The drow priestess paused for a moment, biting on her bottom lip as she did so. “Of course the plan doesn’t take into account what has happened to the other groups on the same quest. Have they been captured, or even eaten? Or are they still in the vicinity and are planning their next move? …But I suppose those are questions which we cannot answer standing here. Should we move to act on my suggestion, or do you have another plan?”

Cool maps Kaelyn. The one detailing the layout of the keep is especially funky.

Quick query. I was taking quick gander at the spells Dylan knows, and realized that he's level 4. Wasn't he supposed to be level 5? Or am I completely wrong?
