Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes
Subject: An unseemly bargain

Pleasant dreams of the night before still clung to Aelistae as her hand lazily sought the presence of her partner. It trailed over crumpled grass and the smooth curve of his torso, stirring Nash from his slumber. The human responded in kind, running his calloused fingers lovingly along the line of her jaw and over her lips.

But then his hand clamped alarmingly over her mouth.

Aelistae’s eyes widened, wondering what had caused the sudden change in mood. Before she could form any words, however, she had her answer. The heavy footfall of horses broke the quiet of the forest, followed by words threatening violence and rape on those she had sworn to protect.

Nash slipped away and urgently gathered his weapons to confront the foe, motioning for Aelistae to stay behind even as he did so.

The only response was a puzzled frown and a shake of her head. Aelistae rose to collect her sword and hastily don Nash’s discarded shirt. She was a Blade Dancer of Eilistraee, and her duty was clear.

“Belbau ssissilluk xuil sarnor ssissilluk,” she mouthed, as she elegantly swung her fine blade through the air and stealthily moved towards her foe.

---

Aelistae’s drow eyes surveyed the scene. She saw Elesia do what she could never do by offering her body without a fight, and the act brought a tear to her eye. Aelistae knew she had only given herself to spare Bart from certain death.

‘I will never let you fulfil that bargain,’ she vowed, as she raised her sword and summoned the powers innate to every drow.

[OOC: The drow translates as: ‘Repay violence with swift violence.’

Aelistae will wear Nash’s shirt since it’s nearby and it’s long enough for modesty’s sake.

She’ll hide/move silently so that she’s within 30’ of the man wishing to rape Elesia. Once there she’ll use her innate drow abilities to first outline the human with faerie fire and then summon a globe of darkness centred upon the human. After the human is lit up like a Christmas tree in the globe of darkness Aelistae will charge into battle.

I’m assuming that it’s past midnight and that Aelistae can use her drow abilities again. If she can’t I’ll edit the post.]

Subject: Hmm

Well I've not been able to post for a while *sighs*, but that has led me to draw up some early lessons for us to learn.

Gina's dungeoneering tips:
No.1: Never use unidentified magic items.
No.2: It's probably not a good idea to enter a dungeon when most of your party are badly injured, and they are all out of spells.
No.3: Funky mushrooms are bad.
No.4: Funky (unidentified) potions could also be bad.
No.5: Never let your drow priestess go off for a bit of moonlit nookie when people are injured.

Feel free to add to the list!

Afraid I can't really post since Aelistae is...umm...well busy.

I do have a post (mostly) written for when she returns to the camp, but that's a few hours further on from the events troubling Artanis.

Hate to say I told you do, but some of us did try to warn others not to wield items that hadn't been identified.

In this case, though, I think the shield saved Artanis (and Loriel). Given that they were facing a group of orcs and they were already wounded, they would have been in real trouble if it had been an ordinary combat.

Flirt - As I understand it, the 'witch' drove you away. And calling for the woods to be burnt etc. is a little odd given that Vanima sacrificed a human in order for the dryad to be summoned.

...I'd keep that bit quiet around the humans if I were you.

Aelistae slipped her hand from Nash’s grasp, and pulled his mouth to settle once more upon her own.

“Next time, wear something that’s a little easier to get off,” she whispered, a smile tugging at her lips as she slowly worked to unfasten the straps of his armour.

Aelistae shivered as her land lingered under Nash’s, and passed from over his heart to her own. It was half in response to the chill in the night air and half in response to the daunting feelings that were welling up inside her.

“To say those words under the Moon, binds us until…” Aelistae paused, for as she continued to peer into Nash’s eyes, she knew that he understood all that she was going to say.

“I will look for your return then, Nash Lambert,” she continued, “but do you have to go so soon?”

Subject: An impassioned kiss

Aelistae was no stranger to affairs of the heart. All drow, whether they worshipped the Spider Queen or the Lady of the Dance, took pride in their beauty and in demonstrating their physical perfection to others. But the drow males that Aelistae had bedded had acted in the submissive manner that had been engrained in them from birth. Every wish of hers would be adhered to without question, for they had no desires of their own.

Nash was different. Aelistae felt his hunger for her as he kissed her. She could taste his desire, and it was one that matched or out-did her own. That one fact thrilled her.

“I…” she stuttered uncharacteristically after Nash’s lips left hers and he released her from his embrace. “You are a strange male, Nash Lambert.” Aelistae laughed softly. “…I think that’s why I like you.”

Aelistae cocked her head, and smiled feline-like at the admission. “I will not fail my companions, for their cause is my own,” she added with a little more solemnity. “I would ask how you know these things about the dangers we face, and how you were able to follow us, but…well, somehow I doubt you’ll give me a straight answer.”

The drow woman raised her head to peer into the blues of Nash’s eyes. “Answer me this one thing, though: will I ever see you again?”

Subject: An unexpected rendezvous

The world spun, and Aelistae spun with it. She twisted her body and sword in a graceful pirouette. Her right foot rested lightly upon her left knee, her back was arched and her voice called to the Moon in a soft whisper.

But then her communion was interrupted, and the dance suddenly ceased.

From the darkness a voice spoke to her in drow. “F'sarn zhaunus l'Jallil orn evagna dos whol dosst guu'lac, ol zhah folt nindel jouse dos 'zil dhyn, lu'Il natha Quar'valsharess.”

Aelistae’s muscles tensed, and in an instant her body fell from the dance of the divine to the dance of battle. Her bare feet spread themselves upon the cool earth, and her blade was raised until its hilt kissed her lips and its tip pointed towards the direction the words had been uttered.

“Jous dosstan!”* she hissed.

A human man stepped into the clearing from the shadows, and Aelistae’s sword slipped from her defensive posture as her eyes widened in recognition. He no longer wore the strange garb that passed for finery upon the surface, and the armour he wore had been bloodied from a battle with goblinkind. But the blues of his eyes still sparkled with the same intensity and he still displayed the same easy self-assurance that he had in Darromar.

“Natha tajo ulu ogglin l’drathir iltan,” the man added, his eyes roving over the soft contours of her nakedness. “Forgive my intrusion Milady, but your movements are as fluid as the river you thought you once crossed earlier. Yes, I have been following you, and would have words with you should you see fit to grant me my most selfish request.”

“Nash Lambert,” Aelistae replied simply with a shake of her head. “There are Sisters of mine who do not take kindly to any interruption of the Dance, especially by a male.”

“But,” Aelistae stated as she plunged the tip of her sword into the soft earth, and walked over the human, “I am not they.”

The drow woman placed her hands upon Nash’s chest, stood upon her tip-toes and caressed his lips with hers.

“Now tell me, why are you here,” she asked as she playfully bit his bottom lip, “and why have you been following us?”

OOC: *”Show yourself!”

Yep the cloak, bracers and ring sound good. The reason that it's a better option than the shield and spear is that we know about their properties (roughly).

Plus we do have more identifies in the future (since Elesia can cast the spell once a day).

I can't really post in character because Aelistae isn't there.

Reralae/Linnix is right, however, when she points out that Loriel and Kas can't explore the cave even if they wanted to. I don't know how they plan to get across the pit this time. Plus it really isn't wise for anyone to go off in a small group. If there's another trap, for instance, no one is going to be nearby to help them.

Oh and DA we now have 2 suits of armour for Artanis to choose from. Chain mail and a suit of banded mail.

Unfortunately there's no chance of making the former gnome-sized, so you may as well take your pick!

Subject: Identifying items

Well the way I see things, we have a bunch of magic items and only 3 identify spells (2 from Elesia, and 1 scroll that Aelistae has).

We know the properties (kind of) of Artanis' shield and the spear that Kas is carrying.

That leaves 6 items really that could be of use to people and which we don't know anything about. (I'm excluding the bolts since they should go to Linnix anyway):

Glowing Short Sword with blue aura (Linnix)
Crescent moon and bloody eye symbol belt. (Xaris)
Bracers
Black and Green Cloak
A Bone Wand
Silver and Gold ring

Since Xaris and Linnix are happy holding on to the sword and belt, what do people think about focusing the identify spells on the bracers, cloak and ring?

Subject: An uncertain reply...and finding time for prayer

“I…don’t worry I’m fine.”

Aelistae’s brow furrowed as she stooped over the kneeling form of Linnix. She had stayed behind even as the others had moved on because she had been asked by the human woman to provide her some light for some task she had in mind. Only to find herself surprised both by the task Linnix had set herself and by the question she had asked of her.

Part of her wanted to open her heart to Linnix, and divulge all of the concerns and fears she had. But Aelistae was not confident that she could express it clearly in the human tongue, especially since she barely understood it herself.

“I’m just weary, both in body and in here,” she added, gesturing at her heart. “I’m not sure I can explain it, Linnix.”

[Feel free to add more if you like, Reralae. I’m happy to back post]

---

[Later that night:]

Aelistae drew her knees to her chest and looked up at the night sky. She sat alone at the edge of the cave in which the camp had been made, the warmth of the fire behind her and the cool of the night air before her. The soft murmur of her companions’ conversation could be heard upon the warm breeze, but Aelistae’s mind was elsewhere, focused upon replaying the events of the last few hours.

‘In the end we were lucky they were just orcs and ogres and not….’

She left the thought unfinished. She was about to add ‘and not Lolth’s children’ but the human that had manipulated the orcs had proven herself to be just as conniving as any drow. Aelistae felt the bitter disappointment she had felt earlier rise within her once more.

‘Was I wrong to come here? …Wrong to hope?’

She had no answer. But then it was not a question that Aelistae was asking of herself. Her violet eyes focused upon a small parting in the clouded sky that grew and grew until the silvery light of the moon spilled forth onto the land beneath. Aelistae rose and slipped away into the night.

She did not go far. She carefully picked her way through the undergrowth to take her away from the camp, until she arrived at a small clearing. Aelistae’s drow eyes could still make out the edge of the cave in the distance. She had not moved away from the others because she wished to abandon them, but rather to spare their modesty. Because all of her clothes lay forgotten upon the earth.

She knelt upon the cold earth and savoured, for a moment, the feel of it under her skin. Then she looked up at the moon once more and burst out into song.

It was not a song in the human understanding of the word. There were no words, and at first all Aelistae uttered was a single, mournful note. But then it changed, becoming lighter somehow, less melancholic, almost as if the song was an echo of Aelistae’s own journey from the evils of the Underdark to the light of the surface world.

After what seemed to Aelistae to be minutes but which could have been an hour or more, her sword, which she held unsheathed in the palms of her hands, began to glow with a silvery light.

Her mind flashed with images. She saw once more the touching concern Linnix has shown for her welfare, the resolve Artanis had shown when defending others from the host of orcs, and the self-sacrifice of Kas when she charged the sorceress even though she had been severely wounded. And Aelistae saw once more the kindness of Nash, who had saved her from a mob of his kinsfolk.

The song came to a sudden end, and tears welled in her eyes.

“F'sarn taudl whol treem dos Jallil...whol treem mina.”

The words trailed off. Aelistae rose to her feet and danced. The silver glow of her sword matched the silver of her hair and the silvery moonlight, as sword, drow and glade became one. She danced even when her breath came in laboured grasps and the midnight black of her skin shimmered with sweat.

But Aelistae did not stop even then. Eilistraee had eased the cares and doubts that she carried, and she was determined to honour the Lady of the Dance in the manner that She most loved.

OOC: “I’m sorry for doubting you Lady…for doubting them.”

Oh and there’s no intention to ignore Xaris or Loriel in what I’ve written. It’s just that neither of those two are human or have human blood.
