Subject: Frightened Indeed

The girl stared up at the spider, listening to Eofara's words again. As he spoke her lips stopped moving in prayer and her bottom lip began to tremble. By the time he stopped speaking tears were welling in her eyes and spilling across her cheeks.

"Not my church!" She shook her head and looks at Eofara pained. "Not mine... Lady Mirros would never foresake anyone, my church is of love and mercy, for all, even for those who do not believe, not death and torture in the name of 'truth'" She spit on the ground at that, a blush crossing her cheeks as she did in embarassment.

"Not my church..." She whispered again and looked at him as she bit her bottom lip some before speaking more. "And I'm not completly ignorant... I know there are things out there that..." she cannot bring herself to say that there are things that would wish to harm her so she moves on. "But... but..." Her voice raises as she brings a finger toward the spider, "There's a SPIDER in there! An eight legged hairy... terrible beast with fangs and poison! Spiders eat their prey while they are still alive!"

Turning from Eofara she reaches for Rose and holds her as she starts crying against the stronger woman's dented breast plate. "Don't make me go in there... I don't want to be eaten!" she wails.

Halia had said nothing since her failed attack on Cor save for casting the spell. She had been listening intently, however, and what was being said furrowed her brow tightly.

While the others were debating with Cor over 'honor' and 'details' her friends lay dead, the mirrors still stood. Slowly she slinked back without a word into the darkness of the shadows where the laughter continued to crackle across the room.

With a flash of her eyes she began to quietly weave a spell from the shadows as she tried to block out the sound of laughter that surrounded her.

If this works we shall see who is laughing... she thought to herself.

Thealora blinked and turned her head from Rose to the elf.

"Seal ourselves in?" She gulped and the color drained from her face. "Followed? Do you really think we are being followed?"

Those big blue eyes darted to the forest around them anxiously and again the memory of the large hairy creature rushing out of the brush flooded her senses.

"I didn't hear anything... Followed? ehhh... I don't want to be locked up in there though..." Turning her eyes again to the spider over the gateway.

"What if... what if whatever is following us isn't as bad as what is in there?" She whispers with a trembling voice as the possiblity that what she said might be true really begins to sink in with her.

Her hand reaches into the pocket of her cloak and curls around the small blue gem there as she shivers, looking up at the spider carving again and letting more prayers slip silently through her lips.

Haila stumbled after her missed attack on the now evil Cor, tumbling forward until the statue of her friend stopped her. Looking up into the stone eyes she frowned. Behind her she heard the others begin a conversation with Cor. Not a pleasant one, but a conversation nonetheless.

She scowled slightly, but the stone eyes kept staring at her and it faded. Let them take care of Cor, she had things to do, and if things continued they way they were they could use all the help they could get.

Closing her eyes she laid her hands on the stone's statues and began to whisper to it softly, trying to block out the argument behind her.

((Stone to Flesh being cast here, in case you could not figure that out already))

Ela stood back a few paces, her bow ready as she watched Crow's back. Then the smell began to hit her.

The smokey mixture of wood, bread and berries. Her gloved hand rose to her veil and pressed against the base of her nose as she took another step back, paling slightly.

Anything but fire... I can handle anything but fire...

In a weak voice she muttered. "Someone should go in... I'll keep an eye out while they do, in case something should appear out here..." ...because I can't go in there until one of you says there isn't a real fire...

It's easier. I don't even have to sort in my city... well beyond 'this is trash' 'this is recycle' that is. Composts seem to need tending, and not sure what I would do with all that dirt anyway.

Diamonds or Pearls?

Subject: Hey look! A player post!

Thealora had been quiet this morning. Yesterday she had jabbered on with Eofara until they reached the campsite, curious and excited. Today she was jumpy and nervous, giving up on conversation when she realized how dry her mouth was. Every snapping of a twig around them made her hair stand on end and her heart skip a beat. She imagined more of those hideous creatures leaping out at her with bared teeth and foul breath ready to tear out her throat. Frowning she would finger the stains on her cloak. Only the day before it had been a beautiful pure white, now it bore the signs of her first combat. Flowers of Anora’s blood, streaks of dirt and tumbling crashes of grass told a story she did not care to remember across the cloth.

As they neared the ruins she let the bird’s song and the feeling that perhaps they were nearing the end of this journey start to calm her. Breathing came a little easier and a smile teased at the corners of her lips for the briefest moment. Any sensation of comfort shattered the moment she made eye contact with the blind spider rising up above them, however.

“Lady Mirros be merciful…” she whispered before letting her jaw drop in awe at the sight. There was something powerfully haunting about the eyeless spider. Even she could tell it did not really belong here.

Keeping her eyes on the arachnid as if it might animate itself and pounce her at any moment she muttered to Rose, “Tell me we don’t have to go in there. I don’t know if I can… I don’t know that we should…”

Subject: Adding to this...

Was actually in here doing research for the Newsletter (shameless plug here) and felt I should add some of my own. I was playing in this evil campaign with some friends and it got so crazy (thanks to my crazy friends and some liquor) I actually pulled up word during the session and started writing down what was being said. Some of the quotes don't make sense out of context... and some are simply down right inappropriate for this venue but I'll share some of the more PG, general zaniness here:

- - -

“I think alignment should be rated on a curve… so I should keep my alignment” Dustin

- - -

“Him falling out of a window did half the damage that I did stabbing him with my trident!” Samantha after attacking Dustin's character who had disguised himself as someone else.

- - -

We were in a meeting with the Neverwinter Nine:

“Wait how many of them are there?” Mark

“Of the Nine?” Tyler DM, confused

“I don’t know, might be 8. Might be more, just a hunch…” Kohnen and the DM nearly falls out of his chair laughing.

“Way to go Kohnen… you broke Tyler” Dustin

- - -

"If I rerolled as a Bard… can I use Bard Knowledge to metagame?” Dustin

“I’ve never been asked that… that’s like praying to your diety… ‘what are you doing?’ ‘I’m going to kill you…’ ‘Psstt… we are going to die.’ …. I’ll think about it.” Tyler, DM

And then later that night...

"I rolled a natural 20 on my Bard Knowledge for Metagame!” Dustin

“You’re not a bard!” Tyler

“I rolled a natural 20!”

“You’re not a bard! You’re not a bard! You’re NOT A BARD!”

He wasn't a bard.

- - -

“Would you like to have a drink with me?” Mark

“No…” NPC

“I’m good looking” Mark points to CHA, “I’m good looking for a cat.”

“Give me a lock of hair, and I’ll go with you for a drink.”

“She gets a BIG bonus to scry…” Kohnen

- - -

This is why you should read the Monster Manual

“Can we get a manticore?” Dustin

“A manic whore?” Samantha

“No… we already have one of those.” Dustin

“Then what is a manticore?” Samantha

“A flying creature that spits spikes out of its tail” Dustin

“Ohh… that doesn’t sound nearly as entertaining as a manic whore…” Samantha

“True! Can we buy some manic whores? We’ll just ride those into town.” Dustin

The DM said no to both.

- - -

We need to start that game up again...

Well my fellow Innmates!

Soon it will be time for us to unleash the May edition of the RDInnsider.

I am writing this to you because I am hoping to see some submissions from you glorious people.

Primarily I am looking for submissions for the Creative Corner. This can be artwork, poetry, prose... or anything else you think is creative

I could also use some 'Classified' ads if you can think of any.

And there is potentially an open space for an article, so if you have one (or a subject you would like to see brought up) please let me know.

Thanks a whole bunch!

p.s. If you missed the last edition and/or need some examples to get your juices flowing here is the link to March's edition:

Subject: Details details...

Students do not die during training. Prof. O'Leary can be a stickler for rules at times but she will simply not allow students to stop paying tuition due to death.

That would be something most of you would know.

There are 'medics' available on an as needed basis, provided by the school. Although that does not give you free reign to go crazy and kamakazi or anything...

And I guess I should also note that the medic will likely remove the player from the training field... so there is no 'I get healed and then make an attack.' It would be more like 'I get carried off the field on a stretcher, healed and then sent back two rounds later (if at all)' if the healing comes via a medic.

Think of them as Civil War era field doctors... not regular D&D healers

Halia had watched the others come out of their dance with the mirrors still cloaked in the swaths of invisibility. She had watched as the others ran to assist those fallen, and even with the flying creatures no longer a threat, as not believing in them had stopped their attacks (but not the blood running down her arm), she was still tense. Something was still coming, she could feel it, could almost see it in the shadows that gathered in the corners of the room.

But even in her state of hightened awareness she had not caught the change in Cor. She had trusted him, he was their leader and if anything should attack them it would not be him. Cor was one of those she was working to protect.

So when the ax slammed into Rayne's skull, meeting flesh and bone with an impact that thundered through the room, she at first could not believe that Cor held the instrument of death. The cry that wrenched from her lungs came from the darkest pits of her soul as she watched. Everything moved slowly at first. Rayne's head caving in and then her body slumping forward, the fires burning in Cor's eyes... but then it all came rushing back in quickly.

Halia did not bother consulting with the others, she simply acted upon an instinct. Her feet carried her quickly toward Cor, sword raised high, prepared to strike, or kill if necessary.

((Run and swing... first thought is to simply maime but if things look like lethal force will be the only way to bring him down she will not hesitate to use lethal force))

She ticked her eyes to him and nodded slightly. "Friend... Well... at any rate. I'm not going to run off. No matter how much this place bothers me. The red light, the silence, the way everything we run into turns insane or into piles of slime... we have to get into that building. But it is a fortress. I don't suppose you happen to have a dragon in your pocket that we could use to crush the walls?"

((I really just want one of those 'Holes' from Roger Rabbit, I think it would come in handy here...))
