Topic: Loaded Dice #16: Just Playing my Character (part two)
Subject: hehe

I liked this one. I love it when stuff like that happens.

One of the tabletops I'm in right now we get more annoyed with each other then with the enemy sometimes.

My character, a very talkative halfling, often gets zone of silence cast over her so the other adventurers can get rid of the ringing in their ears. It has been useful a few times though, she's good at getting past guards who will do anything to get her to shut up and leave them alone.

Thank you, Smoke she replied. but there is no need to worry, I have taken no offense. It is the presence of the source of impurity that worries me. Tell me, Smoke, what do you know of this cult?

A low purr rattled in her throat as Penelope gave her attention.

Right between my shoulders if you would love.. ahhh... yeah... um... what? Oh the Azazelites? Nasty ****ers. We don't know as much as we'd like to. They are organized, we know that much. As for who has organized them? Couldn't tell you. But whoever it is is working on growing the cult. For everyone that Alex slaughters it seems two more pop up. Mostly kids. They show up wearing those fancy medallions along with some new fancy clothes and some bimboo on their arm. A couple of 'em sporting some spark of magical ability too, though it's usually a bit on the rough side. They are show-offs mostly. Not too hard to spot, if you know what your looking for. Although I have a suspicion those are just the lackeys I think there are more that aren't so obvious, the ones running things likely. But at any rate, obvious or not, they are sadists.
Not to scare you or anything love... but... they like to flay people, alive. Especially gifted who get in their way. It's like in the old days, except this time it's gifted praying on gifted in a sickening display of cannibalism I have a hard time stomaching.
That's what is up with Alex. I'll leave it to him to divulge details, but that pretty blonde in the picture goes with the ring on his finger, and she's not with us anymore. My dear Alex is a little... bent... on taking those sadistic bastards down. Although I worry sometimes what will fuel him if he ever truly succeeds at that...
But... for you coming here was really a good thing if you have those bastards sniffing around. How did you end up here anyway?

She glances up and runs a soft paw along Penelope's wrist while she gets pet.

Okay two things from me:

1. So we only see the one woman, no one peeking in from behind her or anything, but we do -hear- others in the inn, correct?

2. The Clock Tower... is it a free standing tower, or is it attached to a building like a church or town hall or something? Just trying to get a mental picture of it so maybe I could slide it in the background of my pic of Eve.

Thanks!!

yeah... me too... Eve is gonna be a bit pissy now... thank goodness those people showed up, and that Guin has kept her thoughts to herself so Eve is less likely to pummel the poor blonde with that night stick

Oh... I worked up a fun sketch of her, it's kind of... Pulpy... once I figure out what is going on with my scanner I'll put it up for you all

Topic: Witchcraft: Stare into the Night
Subject: Hey look... she can be -kind of - nice...

Alex stopped for a moment when he got closer to Smoke, crouched down beside her and, moving a few loops of twine to do so, rubbed her under her chin. "She's screwed, Smoke-darlin'," he repeated... then offered a sardonic smirk and amended that estimation; "I'm screwed..."

He rested his hand on her head then and winked. "What else is new, right?"

Puffing on the remains of his cigarette, Alex got to his feet and continued down the hall to the kitchen. "How's that coffee comin', Rosie," he called.

Smoke purrs a bit when he rubs under her chin and attacks the twine as it moves.

You know Alex, love... the last time I took a tally... you -weren't- screwed, which I thought I had diagnosed as a problem, one that could be fixed, if you weren't acting like such a dope...
she sends this to Alex, and thankfully for him, just to Alex.

Finally she rolls over onto her stomach instead of displaying it. The twine twists around her paws and she stares up at the new woman, Penelope she says her name is. She takes a good minute to really look her over then finally speaks to her:

Penelope... you must pardon Alex. It isn't often he gets actual clients walking through this door, nor any as pretty as you, though I'm sure you are aware of that, he also doesn't get any that come in with trinkets like that. And... well... he is a man, and human to boot... and if there is one creature that has no manners, even if they are not presented with a triple shock as you have just done to the poor man, it is human males. So... I'm Ellgawen, but he calls me Smoke, and so may you, if it pleases you. And don't be too worried... if those demon worshiping cowards are really involved this is the right place to go.

If cats could smile at people she would now, instead she licks a paw daintily.

I think she did a quick look over of the building from the front to see if anything -looked- more loose then anything else... and then walked up to a window at the front which is where she is with Bas at the moment.

*nod* Or something along those lines... I'm kind of flexible though.

Here posted a small reply to Bas. Kind of figured I needed more from Rer to continue, and maybe something from Guin too

Rer - Obviously her intent is to get inside somehow. She has nothing that is overly useful in her bag to help her with that so however she can using her hands and perhaps the flashlight to break a window...

“Looking for a way in,” he asks rhetorically, that enigmatic ghost-smile curling the corners of his mouth.

Eve rolls her eyes up to him just as she is reaching out to test one of the boards on a window. For a moment the reply she has sticks in her throat. It is hot, heavy and acidic as it rests there.

Don't you get snippy with him dear, you know better then to get snippy her mother warns...

And for a moment she heeds the warning, as she always has. For years and years replies have stuck in her throat, their tastes from sweet to sour to bitter dripping back down into her stomach to fester there. Always afraid of what would happen if they were to be vomitted out. Afraid because even when they had seemed like decent replies they would sometimes result in a black eye or worse.

But that was Cheryl, Cheryl was afraid. Cheryl was dead. This was freedom and she'd say whatever she **** well pleased. And if this hulking figure had an issue with it, had an issue that he felt needed to be dealt with with his fist, well... Cheryl didn't hit back... but Cheryl was dead. Eve did hit back.

"No... I'm trying to get OUT" She retorts finally, in real time there is only a second of space that she hesitates before saying this and then rolling the eyes she gives him before they refix themselves on the board on the window.

Ohh... and why are the Azzy's leaving trinkets in Penelope's house?

*aside* Feels she should know this since she has taken up the role of the cult leader of these silly demon leaders recently... lol
Also feels she should learn the actual name of this demon instead of using nicknames all the time or having to go look up the 'horned goat demon' constantly...
Is he the demon in Dogma btw?

Ohhh! No more aside... anyway... onward and upward my friends!!

I had a char that was kind of the opposite... she was terrified of battle, her first one she spent crawling around on her hands and knees.

Best part was she was the healer... everyone was dying and she was too terrified to get close enough to do anything.

Eventually she started to get over that, especially once she realized that I had made her nearly impossible to hit, but even then she would not run into battle if she didn't have to.

Background:
Here is a brief list of each of her lifetimes (Most of the events are inspired by actual historical events, as best as Wikipedia has led me to believe )

1520 - 1530 London, Mary Sullivan, on artist

1531 - 1543 London, Buckingham Castle, Charles Bart, worked in kitchen of castle, she witnesses the end of the Boylen affair

1545 - 1551 Dublin, Liam O'Shea, Gravedigger

1560 -1569 Chelmsford, England, Sybil Waterhouse, sister of Agnes Waterhouse who was hung for witchcraft involving a familiar. In Chelmsford there were many witch crazes in the following years. Often related to familiars. Several Bast's were present in the town, attracted to each other and forming their own coven to stand side by side with the huamn coven. Wicce based, however, most of the cats (including Ellgawen) did not thing to stop the slaughters. (Note: This is something she likely has NOT told Alex about)

1571 - 1582 Chelmsford, England, Joan Upney, accused of witchcraft and hung.

1583 - 1590 Chelmsford, England, Geroge Upney

1606 - 1618 Ellgawen, Sweden, Barbara Rufin, she is accused of poisoning her son, is tortured and confesses to witchcraft and names several others involved, this starts a witch craze. She ends up helping Helena Rufin (Barbara's daugher) to escape the town safely. After this she vows to protect Gifted humans and takes the name of the city.

** Dormant for 200 years **

1825 - 1832 Georgia, USA, Ruth Twilliger, helps Ruth escape from slavery.

1840 - 1856 Georgia, USA, Virginia Salt, given to Virginia as a present when she is a small child. Ellgawen prolongs her death when she catches small pox but the girl dies at 17 anyway.

1858 - 1863 Savannah, Georgia, Lenora Hastings, Lenora is part of a coven (debating association still) working to prevent/end the Civil War in favor of the South. Union soldiers discover the coven and set fire to the home they are in, killing them all, includig Ellgawen.

1870 - 1887 Missouri, Sara Toole, teacher in small rural town

1890 - 1899 Missouri, Toby Nelson, young boy in asylum who is killed, despite Ellgawen's best efforts, by the doctors trying to 'cure' him of his Gift (Note: This is also something she doesn't talk about much, it pained her a great deal)

1908 - 1920 St. Louis, Missouri, Chet Rowls, Newspaper reporter for the St. Louis Post Dispatch, hung out with mobsters and flapper girls

** Dormant until present day **

Makes for squishy PC's...

1. I like the idea of getting the char sheets together somewhere, and maybe bits of background stories in there too. I think I can trust this group not to metagame too badly

2. I likewise agree that all the characters are going to undergo some development/improvement as this goes on, and character points should likely be awarded in some fashion to account for that.

3. Our villians - are we building them to be the same 'level' as our PC's or do we think they deserve more points and such?

4. Alice... well I don't know more then what you put up in that last post but I'm intruiged. Another off balanced char to oppose Rosie and trust me there isn't much you could do that would make -me- uncomfortable, so dish it out!

5. This is fun!!!

Topic: Auguries of Destruction - The Clock Tower
Subject: Breaking and Entering... just add it to the wrap sheet...

Even with the street lights that are still on, despite the apparent lack of people, Eve keeps her flashlight on as they enter into the town. She keeps her right hand on her bag and her eyes on every shadow, waiting for something to move, and only getting more and more tense as nothing does. Silence is something she does not like, silence used to precede the storms that rose up in her life and turned her black and blue.

She keeps ahead of the rest of the group as she walks, her long legs keeping her moving quickly through the abandoned streets. The only thing that is comforting about the situation is that there are no police, maybe stopping here wouldn’t be as bad as she had originally thought it would be. She could also restock her supplies. No one was here to stop her from taking what she needed and she wouldn’t feel bad about it as it had all been abandoned.

First things first though, a place to sleep for the night. In the morning she could get up and start looking for some supplies and then figure out a way to get out of this God forsaken town and get to Mexico, without the pack.

The sign of course catches her eye. Hopefully the inn would have beds, perhaps some food and water too. She walks toward it, running her flashlight up along the building to inspect it further. Her grip tightens on the bag as she moves off the main sidewalk.

What she does first is to inspect the place for signs of life, if she finds none she will then start to look at the boards that have closed the place up, seeing if there is one that looks more loose or nailed in improperly so that it would be easy for her to pry up.
