I'm working on getting some things cleared up via PM but hopefully will have an update this weekend. Thank you all for being patient.

Good job everyone btw... very proud of the lot of you!

Now... if we can just get our characters to show a little more teamwork.

“Lady Shyndyn?” Cay laughs in a hushed whisper as the old man departs from their table. “Well… I do suppose it is better than Ettelenya isn’t it?”

His twined moons danced over a wide grin as he slid a finger down the line of her jaw. “You know, I have always been curious about that name. It is not a common surname…”

Slowly her head shakes and as she lowers it to his shoulder her eyes close as well. “No… it is not a surname, common or otherwise. Half breed infants abandoned on the side of a road don’t have families to give them surnames… they are simply called Ettelenya until they give themselves first names.”

The length of his arm curled around her and pulled her tightly against him. “I’m sorry Cayrimsa…”

“Don’t be sorry for something you did not do.”

She felt his fingers on her chin then, lifting her head off his shoulder before he ducked under the brim of her hat and pressed his lips firmly against her own. The gentlest of moans escaped from her at the reminder that it would not be like that anymore. To him she was not ettelen.

When he pulled back his fingers, bearing a layer of the bayla, replaced his lips. Laughing she took the offered pastry.

“You are welcome to all I have, including my name…”

The effervescent feeling returned, and under his gaze she brightened. “As I’ve already had your body…” she winked before leaning in and pressing her honeyed lips to his again, “I think I’ll go for your contract next…”

Her words garnered a spark in his eyes accompanied by a surprised laugh. “We should first get all the details on that contract then love…”

“Of course… and then… back to your place.”

His brow arched and he grinned, “My place? Have you brought your pillow?”

“No… but my place is likely being watched. Besides, can’t I just use you?”

Another bright grin was sent her direction before he nodded. She smiled back, marveling at how natural all of this felt, and how perfectly wonderful that was.

 * * *

In the hours that had gone by since they left ‘The Blue Dove Inn’ she had begun to fully understand the magnitude of her growing addiction for him. Over time this might dull as she became accustomed to him. For now, though, it was still too new and she needed a fix.

He followed behind her through the crack in the wall of his crypt. In the shadows she could hear his voice, still debating some details of how they would fulfill the contract he had just accepted: a senator.

After finishing their wine and sweets at the Albatross, under the occasional scrutiny of the old man who had tipped them off to the new job, they had made their way to Olsta’s gardens. As expected the slave was waiting. Again she left the talking to Nyx, although little needed to be said. He had quickly spilled the details before them, quiet obviously relieved to finally be getting this meeting over with. Olsta would be leaving with a small band of others, mainly servants but a few others of noble blood, in three days for the capitol. He was currently settling the affairs related to his wife’s recent death.

The job would prove to be dangerous no doubt, but she could not concentrate on the details of the job. Instead her mind buzzed with the memories of the voice that was now considering blood loss purring her name into her neck.

The moment the shadowed assassin pulled up to his full height again the witch pressed herself against him and bore him back against the crumbling wall. One set of fingers began to dance across the buckles of his jacket as the other set tossed her hat to the floor. The only light in the room were the amber coals that flashed at him wantonly.

Rising onto her toes she touched his cheek as she cut off his words with her lips. The lights went out and she breathed him in. His kiss alone made her dizzy, but his firm arms were wrapping around her and holding her in the kiss and so she let herself get lost in it.

When their hearts pounded with desire the kiss enflamed and their bodies ached to be freed of the clothing separating them she pulled back with a gasp. Falling back to her heels she took half a step back and looked up at him with lidded eyes. A smile spread across her face as she pulled the rubied dagger from his side. The blackened point of it drew up against the heavy padding of his coat, just over his stomach.

“Your preferred weapon correct? May I borrow it?”

The blade moved a few inches up his torso, into the opening of his coat and slid under one of the buckles. Her slender fingers curled around the hilt tightly and with a flick of her wrist she pulled the dagger out, it cut through the material holding the buckle in place easily. Her smile widened and she watched him with her playful eyes as the dagger moved up his body toward the next buckle.

“I know this job needs to look like an accident, but… I’d like to use this” her eyes ticked down to the blade a moment before she went on, “on the senator…” The next buckle opened and she continued her ascent up his torso with the weapon.

“I’ve never really killed on purpose before…” As the blade inched up toward the third buckle her other hand slid inside the opening coat and toyed against his stomach through the thin tunic.

“You would help me though, wouldn’t you?” The third buckle gave way and the blade inched up his chest, drawing closer to his neck. She breathed deeply, staring up into his eyes as the blade severed that last buckle and then came to rest against his neck.

She let it linger there a moment, biting her bottom lip as she listened to him breathe deeply. Then carefully she drew the poisoned blade across his throat, a hairs breadth from actually spilling his blood, “Help me make my first real kill?”

The deep pleased growl that served as his response while he reached up and firmly grabbed her wrist, twisting the dagger back into his possession, lit her face with a brilliant smile.

Well so long as it is pushed slowly it will not move fast enough to knock down anyone complety unawares... so no need to worry about that.

Besides we will assume that the imps have moved further into the vault with their celebrations.

Sound like a deal?

Subject: An Official Ruling

In the recruitment thread it says that anything from the core books (and I did specifically include Monster Manual as an option) was acceptable.

So Wood Elf is acceptable. I will make a slight adjustment to the rules, however, and am going to add a provision that asks for players to note when something does not come from the PHB and say where it came from for easier judgement on such issues.

So... move that die for your new fellow student!

Subject: Consequences...

Steelight finally managed to pull his gaze from the goblin and fixed his burning rage at her. Professor O’Leary never flinched as the fires came across her visage. Her features were still pulled taunt and she simply stared back him. After all she had been through intimidation from a student was simply not going to work. Keeping her eyes locked in his, showing him that she held no fear and reminding him that she was the one in control of this situation, she spoke again.

“Another failed challenge… This is NOT how I expected this year to begin. The failure of one, is the failure of all…” Her eyes moved off of Steelight’s for a moment to scan over her students. “Working together as a team is the only way you will survive when you leave these halls. And it is the responsibility of… every… single… member… to maintain that teamwork.” Her eyes tick over the students one by one as she speaks.

“The only people who have acted properly in this situation are the imps, who have done well in living up to my expectations.” Her eyes soften for but a second as she takes in the small stout frames bustling around trying to clean up after their ‘revolt’. “So not only shall they receive the reward we had negotiated early this morning, but I think I shall also pass the reward I had intended to provide you with when you succeeded at this task.”

The imp who had been apologizing for their failure positively beamed at this. “Harmonious socks!? And… and…”

For the first time since stepping out of the shadows a smile crept onto her face and she nodded. “Yes… ‘harmonious socks’ three pair for each of you… and an amazing feast with a very large turkey as the crowning jewel of it, for a job well done.”

Around the students the imps erupt into celebration. Tiny creatures dancing arm in arm, shouting out in joy, salivating at the thought of a turkey dinner, some even so excited about the new socks they are pulling off their old socks and spinning them over their heads. Merideth smiles at the simply joy she has brought them but then returns her attention to her students and the smile slides from her face, the edge returns to her voice.

“The rest of you… on the other hand… are on kitchen duty for the remainder of the day. The gruel you will be eating for dinner has a nasty habit of sticking to the pots, the bowls, the spoons… the floor when it is spilled. I want the kitchen sparkling clean before dinner… and there is no cheating. Magic cannot be used in there, elbow grease and your tears will clean it.”

“Zeph. You will report to my office, immediately! Leave the wolf and your issues with authority outside…”

“And Steelight… when that spell fades you will do the same. Take the time between now and then to settle your anger, for it will not be acceptable in my office.”

“And someone help Kiiron out from behind that die!” She orders as she turns on her heels and storms off. The female magic user sinks back into the shadows when the Director leaves.

After passing her healing abilities around to those who would let her Thea essentially shut down. Rations were distributed for dinner but, very surprisingly, the tiny red haired girl did not have an appetite and nibbled slightly on the food before passing it on to someone who was not bothered by the scent of gnoll blood on the air. The only words she spoke were to Rose, a whispered plea to sleep near the warrior woman, casting nervous glances at the shadows in the woods and even her fellow travelers between those few words.

Curled up close to Rose, wrapped in the soiled cloak she trembled and cried until exhaustion drug her into the depths of sleep. She woke still feeling tired, despite the fact that she had not held watch as the others had, probably a decent thing for them all, considering. The jar of honey she took from the temple made an appearance with her morning rations.

As the sweet heavy taste of the golden elixir ran over her tongue she closed her eyes and let the others discuss their plans. She was no leader, she was no hero or adventurer either. She just prayed that whatever it was that they decided that it wouldn’t involve more of those hideous creatures. For now though she would seek solace in the honey.

I did not go into details on the injuries sustained by Zeph, I figured you were assuming he got hit with all of your *coughs* and that hopefully this should be ending and it won't matter much. If need be though I can roll up damage and stuff later.

Things were out of control. Merideth stood in the shadows, her sharp blue eyes watching as things unfold. Her lips draw into a tight frown.

This has gone far enough…

Stepping out of the shadows and making a gesture with her fingers for the other woman standing in the shadows, the one who had run into the lecture hall announcing the ‘revolt’. As soon as the gesture is made her hands move to her hips and she shouts above the din rising up around her students.

“THIS HAS GONE FAR ENOUGH!” She repeats out loud this time.

“He does not have to listen to reason… he has to listen to ME.”

The woman beside her raises her hand and utters a few words and suddenly Steelight finds himself unable to move.

Merideth drags her eyes to Steelight and stares into his. “Now… are you going to listen to me?”

She does not need to employ her magic user to calm down the imps though. They put down their signs, and shuffle around almost embarrassed looking. One of them mutters “Regrettable of course our the actions…” She pays no attention to the imps apology however.

Subject: Fate!

Steelight runs out of the room the moment that Professor O’Leary hands the problem over to the students. He does not wait around to listen to Darkon’s plans. Sliding down the hallway he stops just short of the mass of imps picketing outside of the vault. Rising up to his full height he scowls at them and then moves to press through the throng.

Very few, however, even seem to notice him, so wrapped up in their shouts and their marching. Instead of clearing a path for him they simple tumble underfoot. Sighing he gives up. Changing his tactic he ducks and maneuvers through the throng with deft skill, cutting a line through them when they would not acquiesce one to him. He rolls into the main room and goes for the far right door. Upon it the words ‘Fate’ has been scrawled. Steelight stretches out his hand and opens the door quickly.

Behind him the other students have followed at a slower pace. Just as they arrive and start to pile through the thin ravine their fellow student cut through the mob. They do not get very far, however. The gigantic twenty-sided dice that crashed out of the door Steelight opened comes crashing into them. In its path Steelight has fallen prone. The surprise of the massive purple object careening out of the darkness at his head threw him off and to the ground. It rolls toward the other students. Ion being first in its path also falls prone, his arm temporarily getting squashed in its tumble. Beside him Zeph gets glanced by its side, crashing to the ground as well as his broken limbs fail to keep him out of danger. Recognizing the danger Briar and Darkon move quickly out of the way, yelling out in surprise and taking two imps back with them. Other imps are not so lucky, however and fall before the die. They finally stop its tumultuous movement just as it comes face to face with Levanna and Kiiron. They are pushed back a step before it fully stops but left standing.

The crowd has stopped its now and stands, in awe as the die settles itself in the hallway.

((Current status:
Steelight – prone with minor injuries near the ‘Fate’ door
Ion & Zeph – prone with minor injuries amongst the imps before the Vault
Briar & Darkon – no injuries, standing in the middle of the mob
Levanna & Kiiron – standing in the hall, before the finally stopped die))
