I would close to within 30' (in order to trigger your sneak attacks), and plug critters with your bow. The reason is the XXandra only has 12 HP. One good hit in melee combat and she would be in trouble.

Hopefully Ellen will make her save. If she does, she'll try and jump into the wagon and slice some goblin.

I'm still on holiday, but no longer camping, so I have internet access! Whoo!!

Subject: Thoughts...

5th Edition, or 'D&D Next' as Hasbro insist on calling it, looks as if it could be a decent system.

The problem is that the whole brand has, in my opinion, been irreparably tarred by 4th Edition (my opinions on it are much the same as Olan's). Not only was it a disaster for ganers but it was a disaster commercially. Many people who enjoyed 3.5 (as I did and do) did not switch to the horrors of 4th edition but to Pathfinder. The last I heard, Pathfinder core rulebook was outselling the 4th ed. PHB by 3 to 1. This has, clearly, influenced the decision to reset the system and create something that is authentically more 'D&D'.

It may well work. 5th edition may be fabulous. But, I think D&D has lost too much ground to make it up now. And, I'm not sure why anyone would choose the (potentially dodgy) 5th edition over Pathfinder.

You could still mist up, but just delay your action until after El's.

The goblin(s) inside the wagon are a worry. And, it's not something El would ignore.

So, El will try and tumble into the wagon (in an effort to provoke no attacks of opportunity from the wolf etc.), draw her swords mid-tumble (via quick draw and for glamorous effect) and then skewer the first gobbo she sees inside the wagon with one or both of her swords.

The tumble might fail, but she only needs a 7 (depending on how many enemies she has to tumble past).

If it works, El needs a mask and a cape.

Melee berserking all the way. Not only would it be a waste of Guh's unique ability to decapitate goblins, but El needs a distraction so she can run and hide ... (kidding...)

She would get there much quicker if she didn't stop to fire an arrow.

Guh's (or do you prefer Amriel's?) base speed is 40'. So she could sprint 160' in a round (which works out at 53 yards in 6 seconds! Usain Bolt look out!!). But that would provoke attacks of opportunity if she ended her movement right next to an enemy.

If she twangs on a bow, her maximum movement per round is down to 40'.

Ok. Although, the problem with obscuring mist is that it lasts for a long time and spreads over quite a big area.

Plus, we're not going to be able to hide with Snoopy out there (the wolf).

PS. Just to be clear, I'm not against the idea, but it would be handy if we have a way to dispel the mist soon after it's cast.

Subject: So...

I'm assuming that all the goblins (and the wolf) now know where Tasso and Ellen are? If so, have they all closed in on T and El's position? Or are they still spread out across the camp?

If multiple enemies have sighted them, El will let off a smokestick to momentarily hide their position, and then move up to 30' towards (what she thinks) may be a defensible position (something where gobbos can only come at her from one or two sides, and where she can't be flanked).

If only one or two have sighted T and El, she'll fire an arrow at the wolf and then move as above.

Topic: Nomachron: Blood Moon Rising Q&A
Subject: Plan

If our characters decide to sprint from where they are, it'll take them 4-5 rounds to get there (Tasso covering 80' a round, everyone else 120'). They'd probably get noticed in the 2nd round of that (I think).

So, Grugg's alternative is sound.

Tasso, Ellen and maybe Xxandra could sneak closer, to a position where Tasso could get a spell off (a Sleep spell has a range of 100' +10' per level, so that might work). It'll let the roguey types to get closer to a sniping position too.

We can modify the plan if XXandra wants to try and bluff the gobbos. But I suspect they would attack as soon as she announces herself.

The slowly sinking sun lent a golden hue to the rivers of grass that swept along the steppes. It was a glorious end to a long, hard trek. And, even Ellen, who preferred cobbled streets to wild spaces, allowed herself a smile; the occasional brushing of a gloved hand against the tallest tufts of grass.

But the smile slipped away when she spied movement at the bottom of an undulating valley. It was obvious from the rude tents and piled filth what kind of creatures inhabited the encampment, even before Ellen caught sight of the nearly-naked bodies of green, brown and grey.

“Goblins,” she hissed.

And, then came the scream.

Ellen knew what the scream meant, what the goblins intended to do. She had been in that position, not so long ago.

She shivered in the cold, starless night. It was unseasonably cold in Vashon. Too cold for the light, silken garb she was wearing.

‘Where’s the punter?’ she asked, her breath crystallizing in the air.

‘He’ll meet us inside. When we set up,’ the small, huddled figure replied, her voice straining with the effort of jimmying the once-green door. The lock clicked, and the door opened with a loud creak. Moments passed. They both exchanged a nervous glance. But no one came. No one ever did.

They walked in, each trying to ignore the mouldy stench from the storehouse. It had become a mausoleum; littered with row after teetering rows of faded paintings, dust-covered furniture, moth-eaten carpets – all mementoes of lives long dead and otherwise forgotten.

‘Do you ever think about doing something else? Do you ever wonder if any of ‘em deserve any of this shit?’ she asked, nervously fiddling with a silver ring upon her little finger as she stared through the grime of the only window.

There was no answer, just the tick-tocking of a clock hidden away amid the clutter. She could feel her gaze upon her back. Angry. Full of coiled rage. The hairs upon the back of her neck shivered in alarm as she approached.

‘Deserve got nothin’ to do with it. It’s her time, that’s all.’

She feigned a laugh, succeeded in putting her at ease, and then twirled around with the dagger she had hidden in the nook by the window.

‘Smart bitch. You always was.’ There was a note of pride in her voice, even with the dagger at her throat. Her severe, thin features creased into a smile. ‘How you know?’

‘You always taught me. Always get there early.’ She mirrored her smile, but it soon faded. ‘Why Lyn? What did I do wrong? I didn’t say a word, you know.’

‘Yeah, that’s what you say. But it’s how you carry yourself. Always apart; always askin’ “why?” when you should be doin’ what you’re told. You was never one of us. And you never could be …’

She knew she was right. But it still hurt. She was the only friend she had left.

‘How my hair look, El?’ she grinned, an echo of an earlier time.

‘Looking good girl,’ she whispered back. She again mirrored her smile, but of the type that ran from ear to ear.

She did not cry. She did not scream. But that smile remained.

“Weak,” Ellen decided, instantly regretting her pronouncement.

She shook her head, causing strands of her blue hair to fall over her face. “They’ll rape her, kill her, and what they don’t eat they’ll feed to Foxey’s bleedin’ crows. I ain’t going to let that happen.”

“Are you with me?” the half-elven woman asked, turning to the others.

OOC: More when there’s a map and if we’re all agreed on attacking.

I'm afraid Ellen would be all for a bit of slice and dice here.

As far as she would be concerned, talking to them would be foolish. It'll blow the chance at setting a proper ambush.

I'll put up a post today (or possibly tomorrow).
