Subject: My newest character on the inn for tek's game..

Anora ‘Rose Blanche’ Arlessa, is the youngest of three siblings, and the only daughter of Harmond and Miriam of House Arlessa; a noteworthy noble house of good standing in the capital of Vyrrmas known for their contributions to the Alcanese trade efforts. For six generations House Arlessa have produced ambassadors, consorts, emissaries and liaisons acting on behalf or commission of the Monarchy or current Regency. Harmond owns and runs the largest independently operated vineyard in Alcana. Miriam acts as a personal consul to the regent when fostering relations with foreign nationals or brokering trade agreements for the import or export of goods.

Anora has two older brothers, Jacob, a well traveled and distinguished wine and spirit merchant acting on behalf of the house name, and Samual, who until recently served under Harmond in the management of the vineyard as his lead hand, being tailored towards continuing the family business. Anora knew little of Jacob, as he was rarely home except to pick up a shipment or another, but Samual and Anora were extremely close. They played in the fields, and studied together whenever Samual wasn’t working, or chasing away any would-be suitor who looked at his sister the wrong way, and to Samual any way was the wrong way. “I’ll always protect my little flower” he’d say with a grin and a flex of his muscular arms .

Anora stands at a dainty 5’2”, and weighs only 117 lbs. Lithe in frame she has the body of a dancer, for truly that is one of her favourite respites aside from riding the countryside. Long strawberry blonde locks cascade over fair skinned shoulders to hang midway down her back, while framing her flawless face, accentuating eyes of stunning green that shimmer with intelligence and curiosity. Often wearing the simplest of pure cotton or silk attire, white preferably, unlike many of her fellow noble women-in-waiting however, Anora often shuns the fineries her status in life could afford her, preferring simple garments without gaudy accessories or adorned with valuable gemstones. Her mother had always told her that trinkets and jewels would only draw the wrong kind of attention, that of gold diggers and thieves, and that a woman’s true beauty and worth would always outshine any gem in the eyes of those who truly mattered. Thankfully Anora was blessed with an abundance of physical beauty, passed down from her mother of course, a woman in her forties who looked more the role of an older sister to the 19 year old Anora than the woman who brought her into the world.

Ever since childhood, Anora has been raised to follow in the footsteps of her family lineage, particularly that of her mother, as her birth marked the first daughter of blood entering the family in almost forty years. Grace, professionalism, and diplomacy have been engrained into her very being. A creature of poise and beauty, Anora has always blended in well enough with the other women of her all girls academy, though classmates and professors often claim to find her staring off seemingly into nothingness, her eyes twinkling, the crease of her mouth curling into a smirk or a scowl as though her in mind she were far away from the classroom. Educated in the ways of politics, trade negotiations, and persuasion using her ‘ample ‘feminine guile, Anora was well on her way to becoming a fine young lady ready to join her mother in her important work…

Until the plague arrived.

Living on such an acreage of size put House Arlessa outside the protective walls of Vyrrmas. When it first came to Alcana and beset a farmhand, little was thought of the isolated incident; but as more and more succumbed to illness and the first of almost a dozen deaths occurred a panic broke out. Anora’s father and brother Samual moved to calm those in their employ and intervene, but fear and paranoia spread like wildfire, with proclamations of the plague having infected the very ground upon which they stood, the very grapes and grains which served as the lifeblood of House Arlessa. Desperate and afraid, fires were set to cleanse the ‘tainted’ fruit, and as the fields burned out of control, Harmond and Samual ran too and fro doing whatever they could do to quell the hungering flames, to little avail. A call went to the local Chantry, and with their divine help the fires were eventually extinguished, and arrests were made. Not before more than a third of the harvestable crops however lay ruined as was one of the largest storehouses used for holding wine and spirits ready for export. It was in the burned and charred husk of the storehouse that Samual was found dead, his body blackened amidst shattered glass and casks, the stench of alcohol and burned flesh an almost sickeningly sweet scent permeating the air. It is said Samual’s body was found crouched over a single wooden case, almost protectively, a wooden support beam from the roof having landed upon his back, breaking his spine though he cradled the crate. Inside were a dozen bottles of Anora 1002 Rose Blanche wines, their deep green glass protecting an expensive year of wine, and pride of the Arlessian House to celebrate Anora’s birth. To the very end, Samual protected his little flower, and it cost him his life.

Anora was away on a trip across the countryside when the plague happened and her brother lost his life protecting a symbol of something dear to him, but when she arrived home and learned of the news of what had transpired, the woman was filled with sorrow, an emptiness that had no direction, no focal point.. That is until Cardinal-Deacon Ilphian, declared the results of divination had proven that the plague which had claimed the lives of many, and by all accounts the life of her brother was the result of arcane magic users.

Anora had heard little of magic outside of the sanctioned mages of noble houses or royalty, in fact the thought of apostates and ‘witches’ had never even entered the innocent girls mind. But as the witch hunt was declared, Anora found her sorrow quickly turn into anger, and fueled by the pain of her lost sibling, Anora decided she needed a purpose with which to direct those feelings tumultuous as they were inside her heart and mind. Against her mother’s advice, but not without her blessings Anora dropped out of school and joined the Chantry, throwing herself into wisdom of the Gods, and the hope they provided, praying that one might take pity upon her tortured soul, and provide clarity. Someone to guide her hand towards purging the lands of plague and disease, and those deviants who would instigate such terrible curses. For this she prays night after night, awaiting her call to be answered..

Anora listened as Erkand Vale rebutted Eafora's outburst. While the paladin too felt a protective duty towards those cast under the same fate as she, she could not deny their host's truthful words. Here was an opportunity to carve out an existence beyond what happenstance and the cruel hand of power had dealt them, for surely to stay would mean death.

Anora peered long and hard at the man who offered them freedom, albeit conditional and took a step towards him as he withdrew, pausing only long enough to toss a pouch upon the table.. tea leaves perhaps, she thought as she gently reached out to acquire the pouch, lifting the small satchel to her nose and inhaling the aroma within...

(Pending she doesn't pass out)

"There is much to be done, and little time to do so.. I realize there is little reason to place your lot in with each other before you, but we are united by a commonality we cannot deny... survival. There are more questions than answers, and Mr. Vale may be the only one to shed light upon the veil cast over our lives. I cannot prophecize about what your mind's are telling you, nor will I be so bold as to openly proclaim what lies in yonder hearts. However, it lies within my gut that our answers lie in Erkand Vale, and the start of the path to claim those answers lies in the ruins he mentioned. s such, I will be at the previously stated rendevous outside the gates in two hours time. I beg you all to consider what's at risk, and join me then and there.. We come from different worlds at first glance, different races, religions, and lifestyles, but perhaps it is our differences that will unite us, perhaps it is our uniqueness that will strengthen us. They say the Syln line their bows with many layers of different woods to maximize flexibility and strength, and good Dwarve's I know your kind are the masters of metallurgy and the combining of ore and mineral into unrivaled goods. I beg you all to look within, and let us be as one on this journey the fates have placed us on, stronger together than apart."

Wih that Anora flashed a smile, as sincere as she could muster given the grievance of the situation, turned, and left... She had another letter to leave for her parents before leaving in the morning... and perhaps time for a cup of tea...

(Anora will make her way back to the Vinyard- conveniently aready outside the city walls, and write out a goodbye letter to her parents detailing the meeting, Erkand Vale, the Ruins where she will be headed, while sipping a cup of tea from the pouch Erkand left before hopefully making it to the rendevous point as discussed.)

Poof, The Druidess had taken flight, Pa-pa-poof! A trio of Eagle headed winged horses appeared... These were magics Crellin was not used too. But he sure as heck wasn't going to be left out of getting to ride one of the conjured magnificent beasts!.

Giddy with excitement, the Wild Mage skipped the few paces to the mount, and climbed aboard gleefully, gripping the large group of feathers lining the Hippogriff's thick neck for dear life so as not to fall off when it beat its powerful wings to cross the black goo.

"Giddy up!" He cried, and as he neared a free Khord, much as the other's were, he urged the Hippogriff's to try and free the poor soul from the stalk with it's powerful claws.

(in the event Ayrn's not directing the hippogriff's to do the same or the summoned creature doesn't respond...)
~*~*~
Crellin kicked his heels into the flank of the beast but it wouldn't heed his commands. "Come on you overgrown Chicken Free 'im!" He called again wondering why it wouldn't obey.

CAn I utilize the FR Campaign Setting book for my character?
I'm leaning towards a 7 cleric 3 Divine Disciple of Mystra.

Also.. So we're 10th level and imprisoned.. I'm thinking since we're imprisoned... and obviously for some length of time, we were 10th level when we were captured... What of the wealth we would have accumulated before capture?

Do we create a list somewhere like.. equipment held elsewhere? what permanenced spells or RP purchases? A home, or some other investment?

These are just curiousities I have.. want ot make character as detailed as possible..

And on that note.. how were we captured? What were we doing to lead up to our capture? Where in the world were we? As 10th level characters we're likely influencial in some form. (And I do have leadership...) Just looking for extra info if possible. Thanks!

And risk all by saying tek values depth and rp very highly, conversation and development of character relations is an important factor in any good game. And since tek is gone for the week its a good opportunity to get some out there while hes gone so it doesnt slow game progress when he comes back.

Erkand Vale was a curious sort. He walked with the gait of dancer cavorting with shadows, but held an aura of confidence that commanded respect. He was a dangerous adversary Anora knew for certain, but subtle connotations, inflections in his voice, or the slightest curl of the corner of his mouth or the twitch of a brow furled for but a second belied something more important. She became of the opinion that while he may be in the position to pull strings with less informed, less experienced persons such as her and those around her; their host did seem honest in his wishes to not only save his own life, but those also of the falsely condemned by this bloody inquisition. That personal gain, did not seem the driving factor behind his actions meant that despite his unorthodox or shady dealings, the man held some sort of code of honor. Perhaps he was like that character from folk legend, something Hood she recalled.. He fought for those whose voice would not, could not be heard over the clamor of the mighty clergy… She would have to keep an eye on the methods and extents to which he would go to win this fight. A line was drawn somewhere, she would do her best to ensure she nor anyone around her crossed it.

As Erkand tossed a stone disc embedded with an arachnid upon the table, he spoke of its use as a pass or keystone, and Anora watched as the Duskarn snatched it up quickly. She eyed the dwarf curiously, mulling over the emblem on the stone, (Knowledge nobility/royalty/religion to see if the emblem holds any significance)

Turning to Erkand she smiled genuinely at the man as Igni pushed for more answers. Waiting for him to finish she added sweetly. “Let it not be said Anora Arlessa failed any challenge posed before her, I will not dishonor my House, and I do not make failure a habit. Mr. Vale, I’d like to believe despite the circumstances, there is honor in your goal. We have little time before morning, and little choice otherwise, to flee would bring persecution, and to stay would likely only invite the noose… or worse.” Her smile fading to a stoic expression, she added. I will be waiting outside the western gate in two hours time. Long before sunrise. I suggest everyone who will be partaking of this endeavor settle your business, late as it is soon, so that we may put distance between us and this city of condemnation before the proclamations are posted at first light. We can rest under the boughs of the forest while we determine how to proceed if necessary. It has been a long day for us all, and I fear the future holds only longer days still.”

Finished her babble, she turned and bowed before Mr Vale. “No matter your motivations beyond the obvious, your disclosure of these posters has given us a chance to change the tide of fate, and I for one do not plan to see if spoiled. If there is nothing else, please let us know how to contact you upon completion of the mission. I have some goodbyes to make, including to this my home, and I suggest those of you attached to Vyrrmas do the same… “

Anora’s afternoon was spent in the very area she was to be meeting at tonight. The ramshackle buildings wedged tightly between the larger warehouses of the docks were blights upon the landscape to some, but to Anora they were reminders that change was inevitable, and if you could not adapt or adjust, then you would simply be left to the ravages of time. There, in the underbelly of her beloved home, the paladin found solace, and even the rain could not dampen her spirits, rather it had the opposite effect. The gloomier the day, the more Anora was thankful to be alive, and she held onto the notion that the next sunrise would be all the more beautiful as it cut a swath through the veil of night or the obscuring cloud and rainfall.

Stopping by the “Sisters of Hope” orphanage, a small overly crowded and grossly understaffed and funded safe haven for those children left without family or home due to all manner of reasons, Anora smiled as she stepped in out of the rain, and was greeted by a pair of smiling faces no higher than her waist, as small arms wrapped around her legs and children’s laughter rang as music in her ears. Lowering her cloak and wiping her strawberry hair, now a dark auburn from the thorough soaking it had received, Anora’s smile widened still as a familiar face exited a nearby doorway to greet her.

“Sister Maribelle, it is good to see you well.”

“And you as well m’lady, it is always a pleasure to have a servant of Liris grace our humble refuge.”

“Now now, the pleasure is mine, nowhere else in all of Vyrrmas can one find so much innocence and purity, I daresay not even in the Grand Cathedral or the great forges of the Duskarn does such warmth and light shine true than from the eyes of these children who have lost so much.”

Sister Maribelle shook her head humbly, before gently corralling the two stray children from Anora’s legs and back into the room with a gentle push.. “Well now you know you’re more than welcome to step in, but by your dress I take it this is not time for a lengthy leisure call?”

Anora still lay strapped for combat in her armor and all, shield thrown over her pack and sword securely sheathed at her side. “No, I’m afraid not today good Sister, there is much to do, and little time to see it done, I just needed a pick me up after the execution earlier.”

Sister Maribelle shook her head in disgust, lowering her voice as she spoke to avoid little ears overhearing. “Yes, I heard about it, ghastly thing to display, and in the public where children could see it, a horrid thought.”

“Yes, it was an unpleasant event ,not only for the condemned, but for all who jeered and saw no wrong in its… execution. That was not a merciful death for the mind nor the soul, despite the quick death of the body… “ Anora shook her head. “But that is not why I am here.”

Sticking her hand into her pack, and deftly pulling out a folded piece of parchment, Anora handed it to Sister Maribelle who looked at it curiously.

“Voucher for food, paid upfront, ready for pick up good Sister, on behalf of House Arlessa.” As Sister Maribelle scanned the page, her eyes began to twitch as she fought the oncoming tears. “Liris bless you child, and your house.”

“Liris bless you and yours as well Sister, for you hold under its roof the future of the world.”
With that, Anora raised her hood once more, and turned around, feeling good about the deed she had done, and she headed to the last stop on her agenda before the meet tonight.
(Voucher is for 10gp’s worth of meats grains and basic foodstuffs)

Anora made her way across town, out through the large defensive walls and home to her family’s vineyard. Her father was out in the fields, she saw him in the distance as she passed, but did not tarry to stop him. She knew her mother would be in session with the guilds or the Reagent, so she entered the home and removed the strange letter that had been placed upon her person. Entering her mother’s quarters, she left the note upon her pillow, with an added note penned in her own hand.

Mother

Forces are at work here and I know not who or what motives they carry, I will be home late this night, if at all, for I intend to meet with this “E” and see what they have to say. I stopped by the Orphanage today, have you been lately? I’m sure the good Sister would be glad to see you if you could tear yourself away from your duties, important as we all know they are.

Anyways, I shouldn’t tarry, I will see you on the morrow Liris willing

With love,
Your Rose.

Confident her mother would at the very least ensure a proper investigation was formed should this clandestine meeting end in foul play, Anora slipped from the manor as the sun ducked behind the horizon and made her way back to the docks.
~*~*~*~

Anora was one of the last to enter the dilapidated building under cover of night. As the door creaked shut behind her, there was already a group of strangers sitting around a small table in the middle of the room candlelight flickering in the otherwise encompassing darkness. Anora strode into the room confidence in each step as she lowered her hood, and untied her cloak, setting it over the back of one of the only free chairs left. (or only free chair if Igni’s post has him arriving earlier)

As candlelight hit polished steel and emblazoned crest, Anor’s roll in the secretive missive was made very clear as the sword arm mentioned. Preferring to stand rather than sit, Anora stood with her hands upon the seat-back, and cast her gaze at those gathered. (Detect Evil upon other Pc’s including Igni when he’s there and our ‘host’) Strong green eyes cast about the room, but a curt nod of her head and the faintest of smirks over this adventurous meeting gave light to her serious demeanor.

She stood in silence, though she smiled as the nervous glance of a white robed girl’s eyes met her own, similar in both hue and hair color to match, the freckled lass could have been her sister if people didn’t know any better. A quiet wink was sent to reassure the young woman as her head turned to regard a voice from the darkness.

An introduction, a fluid motion, and the scattering of paper later, had Anora looking down at a rendition of her own self, a wanted criminal for the aiding and abetting of the Scarlet Feverflash…

Anora’s mind told her this was some cruel joke, but her gut told her otherwise. Somewhere in the pit of her stomach the paladin realized she had been thrust into something very serious.

“Mr. Vale, these proclamations are absurd. I am a holy knight of Liris. Tack the poster to my chest and march me straight to the Cardinal himself if you like, the Lady will judge me pure within the zone of truth… unless of course they who cast such dweomors are under some foul influence of the heart or mind.. “
Anora stopped long enough to look at each of those around her once more, particularly Thea, who expectedly panicked and broke into a tearful outburst of emotion. Walking over to Thea, Anora placed a calming hand on either shoulder, patting them gently raising her gaze to look at their host turned employer.

“Mr Vale, I can only account for the weight of my own soul, but I will not stand idle while others are thrust into the machinations of some foreign entity's plans. What would you have us do?”

Crellin watched as the small fungus sizzled a bit in the black pool, but otherwise just sat there. There was no explosion, colour change, no snap crackle nor pop, and it was quite a let down to the mage who had hoped for something more visually appealing. Certainly the fact that the pool was not some highly corrosive substance was a positive thing, as their next course of action would be to fell a large rubbery stalk to utilize as a bridge; but to that plan Crellin gave a resigned sigh. Physical labour was so not his forte.

As he turned to the others, suddenly a massive hand and forearm of stone crashed down through the darkness above, and like the Khord plucked from the very shroom they sought to reach Crellin found his mouth hanging agape, his mind trying to processes what his eyes bore witness to. Of course had anyone tried to read his mind at that particular moment they likely would have gleaned something along the lines of Holy crap! Ping #$%#% Cool! I want One! I may have just soiled my britches, Wait.. Where did that come from… we’re.. under.. ground?”

Crellin was doubly astounded when the druid amongst them to the credit of her curiosity changed into a splendid eagle, and took to the air above them. Crellin flapped his arms in reply wishing he could follow, alas he was grounded and once more gave a second resigned sigh before his mental maelstrom finally escaped his lips.

“By Khorox’s beard! Where.. What.. How did.. We’re UNDERGROUND!!! If someone tells me we’ve been living our lives blind to a mountain sized golem o’er our ’eads I’m going to just drop dead ‘ere and now. You best come back here bird-girl!! Don’t be leavin Crellin down ‘ere while you enjoy the mysteries by yerself!”
