Topic: So I've been asked to run another game...
Subject: Answers!

No Exact Deadline, but by Next weekend would be fantastic..
I'm picking what I think will make for the best roleplay combinations, read-alongs, and interesting storylines for my as a DM...
If the group turns out to say, all be fighters without magic, or all stealthy, without healing.. that's fine by me, I loath setting specific party stereotypes.. "the fighter, the healer, the rogue the caster." Because that's just not how I envision every party.. Take the famous (if not commercialized) Drizzt and his companions. Cattebrie, Wulfgar, Regis, Bruenor, Add some Gutbusters, the odd Gnome illusionist etc, but really, there is very little magic or healing in their party (safe for the emerging wizard in Cattebrie even as the Weave falls asunder with the changing from 3.5- 4th edition in the books) But I digress.. I'm just looking for the best story to tell.

Also..

Shield Wolf has submitted the first complete Character sheet with Background Dossier, Easy to reference items and feats etc, and has been Accepted!

Welcome Cameron Grey, Human Dreamer of the Endless Seas

given the world in which we're playing and such..humanoids with at will changing breath weapons and invocations just blows the power curve out of the water, so I'm gonna decline the Dragonfire Adept class.

Subject: For those who have shown interest

Thank you!

I am currently accepting all submissions, and will pick my final 4-6 from those entered.

I am more than willing to help with character concepts and creation, and have 100+books and200+ some dragon magazines available for reference.

on that note I don't seem to have Dragon Magic Reepacheep Though I do know the Warlock class from other books.

If you can find me a link to the verbatum class description and charts/ info from the sourcebook i can at least consider it.

AS for Ebilness, welcome to RDINN! I'm flattered you've poked you're nose here first of all places. Submit to me a character concept via pm and we can go from there!

Any further comments questions or concerns please post here

Subject: CD Points, a Kaelyn Original ;)

I'm introducing something only the players of my original setting Nomachron or other games hosted here would recognize, something to hopefully set my games apart from the rest. and with that I give you, CD points. (Character Development Points)

Once every Major Update (approximately 1/week) The Pc's will have the opportunity to each award one (1) CD point to ANOTHER Pc based on their post(s)throughout that week. CD points are given to someone who you think wrote an outstanding post, something entertaining, really in character despite character safety or gain, or generally an improvement or extra effort from previous posts. Players are NOT required to give out CD's every week. These are something special. You may publicly post why you're giving a CD point to someone in the Q/A, or simply Pm your choice to me.

CD's are CUMULATIVE! And are not turned in. Each level nets you the listed reward! So lets see how this goes.

Character Development Chart:

5CD's: Monetary Bonus
10CD's (1 time bonus) +1 rolls, skill checks, saves for one encounter
(state in OOC along with post if you're using this)
15CD's Monetary Bonus#2
20CD's Reroll one failed roll (state in OOC along with post)
25CD's Magic Item of DM's Discretion
50CD's Get on your knees and pray card- (Dm may intervene/fudge a roll to save your hide-since you're such a credit to the game)
75CD's-Character Affecting subplot. (For such outstanding efforts, I shall write a character specific quest or subplot to allow for great potential gain be it wealth, reputation, something personal or otherwise based on your character up to this point)
100CD's -bonus Level

Dark: there will be death, romance, lust, intrigue (some political), and of course more plot twists than a DM with ADHD who hasn't even thought of them yet.. (which is entirely accurate)

It will be a fairly dark setting, thought not in a gothic horror sense... at least to begin

Subject: So I've been asked to run another game...

So I've had a bunch of emails and such asking me to restart an old game, a new game, or the like..

Sooo.... thinking it over, mulling over this whole new fitness / mental health kick I've been on this year.. I think it's a good idea. So here's the lowdown.

CAMPAIGN WORLD: AUDALIS
EDITION: 3.5
PLAYERS: 4-6
CHARACTER CREATION GUIDELINES:
Lvl: 6
Race: Audalis Specific:
Alignment: True Neutral and up
Classes and Books allowed: PHB 1&2 Complete Series, Ultimate Series Compendium Series, Green Ronin Sourcebooks (Ie pocket arcane, pocket divine, pocket magicka, the assassins guide etc etc)
Other classes and or books may be presented to be allowed at my discretion.

CHARACTER CREATION METHODS:
All characters will Distribute the following Stats as seen fit prior to Racial Modifiers, and the level 4 bonus stat point.

9, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18

This will allow for a stronger than normal character without all those perfect rounded +Modifier scores for every stat, and still some sign of imperfection and mortality with that ever disdained 9 hanging about.

Character starting Wealth: 13,000gp

No single Magic Item may cost more than 4500gp:
Non DMG Magic Items or enchantments such as those from the Magic Item Compendium etc purchased must have their description and source reference included with your character sheet when submitted for my easy reference.

Traits and Flaws may be taken, Traits will be followed and flaws (max 2) will be taken advantage of as the DM to the fullest extent I can, so you are forwarned.

Examples of Flaws and Traits can be found at
FLAWS
Traits

Character Submissions must be Pm'ed to me and not Posted here...

Characters must have a background, and a dossier of what the other players WOULD KNOW about your PC...

THE BASICS:
STARTING CITY: BAYRIS
All the Pc's will have previous knowledge of each other having worked together in some capacity before, brought together either by promises of wealth, pride, adventure, honor whatever the case. You will all be working for the newly formed Adventuring Guild named the Crimson Blades:

The Kaelyn Initiative:
As anyone who has played with me before will attest. I will write the story, I will present the opportunities, but the ultimate decision is yours.. If I present save the princess, or aid the dragon, and the pc's decide "forget them both we'd rather go raid a village" Then that's exactly what will happen. My games are VERY PC Driven, and consequences to EVERY action good bad or otherwise are always taken into account.

CD POINTS will be used in this game, and will be explained in further detail later on.

THE TWIST!:
After all Submissions WITH BACKGROUNDS have been accepted. Each PC will be pm'ed a unique piece / pieces of information known only to them that they believe as truth that could ultimately affect things down the road.

Comments questions concerns... Ask away!

Topic: Season of the Witch
Subject: Gnolls! Why couldn't it have been cute fluffy bunnies...

“I am not one to indulge dishonesty and it disgusts me that I am asked to in answer to your question. Perhaps soon I will share everything with you, I beg you now to be satisfied to know that I was asked to aid a party in their trek through the wilderness. You seem to be such a party. I can guide you to what you seek. First you need nourishment and rest. I will return. Please be on your guard these woods are not made to be kind to foreigners, beautiful though they may be."

Rose listened to Joseph's words. Something panged him for keeping information from them, and Rose simply didn't understand why if he felt guilty, he didn't simply tell them everything. "The truth will set you free" She spoke softly again, but she did not look angry at Joseph as he skirted the question and mentioned nourishment and rest. Soon he was gone and Anora was pacing the edge of the clearing thinking about all that had happened, awaiting their guide's return.

Awhile passed, Anora still pacing, lost in her thoughts. She cast her look amongst the trees but saw nothing but forest through them. By the time the first gnoll had crashed into the clearing it was too late. Surprise had taken them and Anora instantly knew now what inexperience could cost her.

Her mind snapped to training in the yard of the church, the military routines and lessons she had undergone to earn her vestments of paladinhood. As her shield was raised too slowly, the numbing pain of the flail nearly taking all strength from her shield arm with its horrid blow Anora clenched her teeth, her fingers tightened around the hilt of her longsword, knuckles whitening, and she focused on survival..

"Rank up! Form a defensive ring in the center as best we can!,protect the priestess, or any other healers and and don't give them your flanks!"

Facing her adversary she placed the flat of the blade to her forehead and offered a swift prayer.
“I am the armor against cruelty, strong and resilient. I am the shield against intolerance, ever vigilant. I am the sword against injustice, swift and merciful.”

Anora will fend off the gnoll facing her as best she can, utilizing shield and longsword, taking only 5' free steps each turn towards Thea. Hoping between her, Agrin, and Igni they might form a defensive wedge. Surely the dwarves knew of formations, they had been utilizing them for centuries in their tight tunnels. Tristessa she had no idea how to include in any tactical assessment, and Kammie she hoped would get to her feet and be able to join her. Eofara, well, Rose already knew what the Mith'gani thought of her, and with his many seasons on her presumed he'd have his own methods of dealing with things. That was fine by her.

Before she was able to say or do anything more he made mention of some ‘3 iron laws’.

(In Alcanese) ”Three iron laws in the wilderness Rose, you’d do very well to know what they are.”

You did.. So I had Tek do a intel check jsut to see if the term 3 iron laws rang a bell.. And I responded from there based on the info I got..

I could be totally off base from what you were 'thinking' nor did I comment that you SPOKE those.. I replied in character based off of ROSE's preconceptions on what those rules were... and As I made eye contact with you, and such it's easy to see Joseph just figring out you were Eofara I don't think Anyone actually is accusing you of SPEAKING the laws...

Rose told Joseph of the 'law's you had mentioned in response to how she percieved them.. one of which was similar to your first rule about there is only truth.. Hence my reference to the truth shall set you free and Dragonblood responded in kind.. noone is saying you spoke anything about the laws in detail... other than what I just quoted you as saying at the beginning of this post.

Changed recited to Mentioned.. Had Tek role an ad hoc Intel check vs her past having brought her any news of 'three laws' even if the ones she's heard are different variations of those you intended..

and reading back.. your last law makes no sense to me.. specifically the last part.

Trust is the only way to survive; you should trust your horse to carry your weight, trust a hunter to hunt and trust that those who live in the wild.

trust that those who live in the wild what? ... it seems incomplete to have put a period there...?

Topic: Season of the Witch
Subject: The truth will set us free

Rose listened to Eofara’s mentioning of the three laws of the wild. And while it was true she was used to the fineries of nobility, she had been far from sheltered. Her studies to be a emissary and consort had taken her far, and her love for knowledge did not leave her cloistered or disillusioned to the world around her. Rose allowed the Mith’gani his preconceived notions, though she now mentally lumped him one category closer to the very close minded Agrin.. Suddenly an image of Eofara with a long soot filled beard entered her head and she smirked.

As Joseph led them through the forest, Rose couldn’t help but admire the grace of the man so at home in the natural beauty that was nature. She too loved the outdoors, the golden spears of light felt wonderful as they pierced the canopy to caress her cheek, the sounds and smells of wildlife and flora were all reasons to feel alive, despite their current predicament.

When they stopped in the clearing, and Joseph had introduced himself and Tristessa, Thea was the first to reply with giving her name in kind. Along with her introduction, Thea had offered another to better explain the situation to the Wildman, and Rose thought she might be able to simplify things a bit.

“What Thea, and Eofara earlier were trying to get at Joseph, is that each and every one of us, before last night had our own lives, our own problems, goals, ambitions, associates and priorities. That is until a common bond brought us together. No doubt even you would have caught wind of the Scarlet Feverflash, the plague that has swept through the countryside in recent times, killing many innocents. It is my belief that the church of Mallien, needs a scapegoat, they require faces to be put to blame for this tragedy, and while my heart tells me they do not truly have the culprit behind it known to apprehend, the masses cry for action, cry for blood, cry for vengeance, and the church, like a Sheppard to its flock is giving them what they want, by falsely accusing at least some innocents in the creation or distribution of this horrid disease.”

Anora let the weight of the matters hang in the air for a moment before continuing.

“We were approached, each with secrecy by a man who claimed a common threat, that he too would, by morning, be plastered amongst the city streets as a heretic of the church and traitor to the kingdom. He arranged a meeting for us all, and it was there that he brokered a deal. He stated that were we to venture here, to the ruins housed beneath the boughs of these great trees, we would find something he required, an amulet and in return, he would reveal more information that would bring us one step closer to uncovering the truth behind these allegations and lies that have sent us fleeing from, for some of us our very homes. It is in this instance that literally, ‘The truth will set us free.” and it is for that same reason that I disclose as such to you now.. And if Eofara’s laws holds true… then I bid you be honest with us as well.. Why were you waiting for us? “

First Post As promised ..

Now Daldren is very different from my normal comfort zone of characters, typically the leaders, soothsayers, big flowery speakers etc etc.. Page long poem to woo the maiden or similar length preaching why their religion is the best due to dogma this and mandate that..

This quieter more reserved type has some depth and skeletons in the closet as it were and should give me lots to work with in the coming game. Hope I do him, and the game justice.

Look forward to gaming with all of you!

NOw y'all follow suit and give me something to read at work lol.

Topic: Demon Wind
Subject: Daldren Gray

Courage is the magic that makes dreams into reality. If it were not for courage, the willpower to stand against adversity in the immediate; the very ebb and flow of time in the extreme, no change would ever come to pass. The simple ideals of old, flawed as they were would not have grown generation after generation into the current cesspool of a government ruled by an ailing sycophant of a King, a withered albeit useless symbol, like the algae covered rotten figurehead on the front of a once proud vessel, now run ashore by the ravages of time lost to obscurity amongst the swifter, stronger, and more maneuverable ships vying for dominance over once noble waters. The sudden spike in noble titles given out , combined with stockpiled wealth from ill begotten gains and their personal armies meant the ruling class were often no better then the Ventar lords of years past, pirates in their own right.

Where had ‘for King and country’ lost the power to sway hearts into allegiance, when had honor and loyalty fallen to the wayside, replaced by greedy ambitions and personal gain. Chivalry may no longer be polished plate and silver tongues, but there were still those of us who held to the code, no matter where we went, or whom time changed upon the seat of power.

Daldren Gray ran a single, newly acquired coin along his knuckles, deftly flipping the monetary trinket over each finger, before passing it between pinky and thumb and curling it back over his index finger to start the process over again. It had been a month since Prilm had been liberated from the bandit threat. Since then Daldren had been on two more assignments, neither had been with MV 6, but both had left Daldren Gray sleeping soundly at night, and knowing he had made some small impact on tomorrow.

His teammates, coworkers, compatriots, professional associates, but decidedly far from kin or friends had grown used to Daldren’s quiet demeanor over the past six weeks. He was always prompt when heeding the call of his duty as a member of the aptly named Blood Guard; but rarely did he bother with dalliances amongst his teammates, or anyone for that matter. Daldren Gray seemed to come and go with the wind. He never spoke of family or outside interests, though he held the utmost in quiet regal respect for Danamar, the assigned leader of their team. Proper to a fault, rarely speaking unless spoken to and never one to question an order, Daldren Gray was by all accounts, the perfect soldier. There was a dedication in his eyes that was fierce, allowed no room for mistakes, and he criticized himself for even minor imperfections in anything he executed. Always striving to be something more, Daldren’s complexity was also his simplicity. And those who came to understand as such perhaps would find opportunity to glean insight into the very private man.

Daldren had just stepped out of an old building, nameless and easily forgettable amongst the dozens just like it along the street, wiping the crumbs of a gingersnap from his well groomed beard. The light of the sun had been replaced by the silver glow of the rising moon, and under the cover of darkness Daldren walked, passing few in his travels. It was then that the strange breeze came upon him. Raising the collar of his green and brown jerkin to ward off the invasive wind, the light looking apparel did little to fend against the overwhelming feeling of dread which suddenly overcame him. Daldren’s eyes scanned the perimeter, his left hand thumb flicking the coin in a light arch to his right, same hand deftly pulling a dagger from the sheath upon his back even as the right hand opened a pouch upon his waist slightly, the coin disappearing within without a sound.

Shaking off the feeling, and seeing those few in the street recovering from similar effect, Daldren was quick into a sprint, the Blood Red sash tied tightly round his right shoulder a momentary blur, before his presence faded amongst the shadows, footsteps silent; destination…(PM’d the DM)

~*~*~*

After that strange breeze a few nights before, Daldren was busy carrying out personal affairs. He had only stopped only into “The Wagon Wheel” for a quick bite to eat. As he entered the small tavern, the bartender nodded towards him as he would any potential customer, but more than one already inebriated patron in the smoke filled common room gave Daldren looks of dissatisfaction that did not go unnoticed by the veteran, the red sash upon his garb a symbol of station, though not always an appreciated one. Daldren had barely taken in the mixed scent of smoked meats, smoked weeds, and a mixture of potent alcohols when the door opened behind him and Daldren spun round, a young man in studded leathers with a matching blood sash and a chain coif that hung a little too loose to be of custom make froze under his cold gaze, his eyes falling to the floor.

“S.. Sir G-Gray.” The young man stammered without even looking up “Sir, You are summoned to Headquarters immediately… sir..”

Daldren sighed, even as his stomach gurgled in protest at having to go without lunch. He knew the soldier would be coming with news of an assignment, he had just hoped it wouldn't be until after he'd eaten. He strode past the soldier stopping just behind him, turning and whispering so only he could hear.

“Thank you soldier, and you would do well to avoid staring at your own feet when intimidated, you bring nothing but shame to your name, and opportunity to would be adversaries. Back straight, chin up, and be proud of the sash you wear. You, unlike many of the drunken louts inside have made a decision to stand for something. Don’t ever forget that.”

With a firm clasp on the youth’s shoulder Daldren was on his way, back alleys, and darkened corners accessible to him as though he were walking across an open courtyard. Perhaps he would finally get some answers as to the strange occurrence the night before.

Daldren was the first to arrive at headquarters, where he took position in the corner of the room where table and chairs awaited. There he waited in silence until Danamar Amarillis entered the room, where he greeted the team leader with a direct “Sir.” No other pleasantries were needed. When the liason entered and bid them sit Daldren did as directed, and sat silently as the situation, along with a new assignment was made known. Only the slightest nod of his head made known he understood what was tasked of them, though otherwise he sat in still silence.

As Danamar is the Team leader I presume the pouch of 25 gold went to him and that's cool with me.

More importantly, are we keeping track of our own Character sheets, and hopefully they mesh with yours..
Ie, we each made 10 gold in your intro past thing, and 10 more for sold weapons etc... would we each add 20g to our copies of the Character sheets?

In this instance perhaps that's included in the starting funds we recieved? I'm just curious.

Thanks! and I can't wait to start posting!

I love the momentum and enthusiasm, and I will post again tomorrow.. basics, ignoring Eofara, for he too judges without learning the depth beyond the facade... Continuing to be friendly towards Joseph, while setting up the camp grounds should he and eofara go off hunting, and taking up patrol in the absence of their two forest friendly acquaintances.

It will likely also include a more detailed recollection of what exactly brought them here, and pushing Joseph for more information regarding the area and just why he and tristessa were waiting for them as she's not a big believer in happenstance.
