Subject: well,

It's my first Bard post... ever, and my first 2e post in well, just about forever. Hopefully it will give some insight to the character (I left out some specifics as I havn't finished the character sheet quite yet (2e baffles me) but it shouldn't affect the post at all, really it's just description of the actual man, which will come to light in future posts.

After all, any good bard will leave their audience wanting more

Topic: The Return of the Prodigal Son
Subject: Vaskar Steelsong, the Dragonslayer

Vaskar Steelsong was a fairly well known spinner of tales from the far north across the sea, but what he lacked in notoriety he more than made up for with reputation and references. He had served under nine lines of royalty, participated in over a dozen wars, hired out as mercenary and is rumored to have quelled a dragon’s hunger with naught but his glib tongue, though Vaskar will never venture whether the truth behind that tale is neither here nor there.

As the applaud died down as the announcer proclaimed his debut in the city of Thayatis, Vaskar began to set the scene, his battleground, and warp the mood and atmosphere of the entire theatre to his performance. Having set up a basic choreography with the stage band, and accompanying their traditional musical influence with a little magic to bring his homeland to the mainland, the lights dimmed, and the show began.

Silence fell over those gathered, for a few solid moments, until Vaskar, safely hidden in the shadows of the stage could see the uncomfortable nature of those gathered, and he put his show into action. With a few well placed cantrips, small gusts of wind blew through the isles, brushing past those gathered, causing a stir in the crowd. As the audience began to quietly comment on the unnatural air about the fabled theatre, the steady sound of war drums began to echo through the hall, slowly gathering in magnitude Then, from under the large velvet drapery of the stage backdrop billowed forth a creeping fog. As the cloud of vapors spilled off the stage and began sweeping across the floor of the theatre, many of the patrons of the show drew their legs up into tight balls, trying to avoid the mysterious gas, while women shrieked and men tried to show their valor in calming their companions.

Then when the frantic nature of those ignorant of the master Skald’s performance reached it’s peak, Vaskar cast his Spectral Force, and from the billowing smoke upon the stage rose a dragon of crimson scales with acrid smoke rising from it’s nostrils, and with a great roar to shake the very walls of the theatre, it breathed a torrent of flame into the air casting a wave of heat over those seated nearby.

Women screamed, and men screamed, and Vaskar chuckled quietly to himself. Making sure his armor sat right, and his blade was polished to an incredible shine, he motioned for the band to start his queue, and a mandolin chimed faintly into the auditorium, followed by a great gong as the war drums met their rapid crescendo and Vaskar’s voice, aided by Ventriloquism spell, echoed throughout the hall, and he began his song.

From the darkness I walk into the light

From the day I walk into the night

From the shadows I will appear

With a message for all who will hear

For the weak of heart I will be strong

To the Defenders of Fate I will belong

To the last of us, fight till we die
till the keys of the kingdom, are mine.

As Vaskar spoke, he stepped out on stage, his gleaming armor shining in the light which flared to life in time with his footfalls, golden broadsword and silver shield in hand as he motioned a challenge to the dragon, which roared in acceptance.

There were gasps in the crowd, and Vaskar was sure he heard someone faint and hit the floor, but he was in the moment, and nothing would sway his concentration. As he turned to the crowd, and beckoned them forward with a cry and a wave of his sword before returning to the song.

All stand together for the world to see

Now the time is right

To live out all our dreams

Say the words forever

Your strength will never leave

If you want to win the fight

Say: 'I believe'

As Vaskar sang and chanted he swung at the Dragon which lunged and chomped with timed responses. As was practiced, the illusionary Dragon blew a gout of flame at Vaskar, who cringed under his shield blocking the torrent of red heat. When the flame breath stopped, Vasksar panted, and called upon the Audience to bolster his resolve.

“Come on everybody, I need your help to slay this dragon!, I’ll never get to perform for you all if I’m eaten!, I need you all to believe in me, so when I call “I believe” I need you to repeat after me as loud and as strong as you can alright? We’ll show this Dragon the people of Thayatis are braver than it thought right!”

At first, there was no reply, and Vaskar thought perhaps his illusion had been a little too real, until the sound of a young boy called out across the theatre “I believe Dragonslayer! I believe!”

With renewed Gusto Vaskar fell back into chant, slashing at the dragon as he sang.

from the darkness I walk into the light

from the day I walk into the night

from the shadows I will appear

with a message for all who will hear

for the weak of heart I will be strong

to the Defenders of Fate I will belong

till the last of us fight till we die

till the keys of the kingdom are mine

All stand together for the world to see

Now the time is right

To live out all our dreams

Say the words forever

Your strength will never leave

If you want to win the fight

Say: 'I believe'

As he fought and called out Say I believe, a few voices followed suit, and Vaskar urged them on with a beckoning of his shield arm as he fought his practiced foe.

Let all stand together

For the world to see

Now the time is right

To live out all our dreams

Say the words forever

Your strength will never leave

If you want to win the fight

Say: 'I believe'
(Crowd slightly louder “I believe”)

Let all stand together

For the world to see

Now the time is right

To live out all our dreams

Say the words forever

Your strength will never leave

If you want to win the fight

Say: 'I believe'
(Crowd getting really Loud: “I Believe!”)

And as the Dragon Launched a devastating rearing of it’s head for another gout of flame, Vaskar sung out with all his heart

If you want to win tonight say: 'I believe!'

(And the crowd in complete bolstered unity echoed with a great “I Believe!” And Vaskar’s golden sword flashed as he plunged it deep into the dragon’s chest, which roared and flailed in defeat before puffing out in a red wisp of smoke.

Vaskar panted and wiped his brow before turning to the audience and bowed. “Thank you all for believing in me! As I believed in you! You all possess a great courage, and I couldn’t have defeated the dragon without you! You are the heroes; take a bow take a bow!”

A Great roar of cheer and applause ripped through the theatre, as flowers, coins, and even the odd ladies undergarment were thrown upon the stage in appreciation for Vaskar’s truly innovative performance. Bowing another few times, and collecting his spoils with sword waves and a gleaming smile splayed across his rugged features, Vaskar took his exit, stage left. As he was leaving the backstage area, he passed by Alin Hawksclaw, who glared at him with obvious contempt; for his traditional—though beautiful- musical ensemble would be hard pressed to compete with what was supposed to be merely his opening act. As was Vaskar’s habit after performing, he made his way around the side of the stage area, and into the theatre itself, where he had a chair waiting for him to watch the rest of the show, as another simple aficionado of the arts.

Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes
Subject: Into the night

Round 1:
And so it was that the tide of battle had turned dramatically in the favor of the companions with the arrival of Kas, Xaris, and Loriel along with Moonshadow. Even as they cleared the cave entrance and took in the immediate scene, they could tell that what once had been an possible problem was now more or less under control. Aelistae was combating a sandy-haired fellow with a rugged face an forest hued clothing covering his chain mail, the man’s look one of fear turning to terror as Aelistae’s companions appeared behind her, and Kas issued forth an ultimatum of surrender or certain death.

The man wasn’t certain that surrendering wasn’t going to lead to certain death anyways, but hearing Kas call upon Tyr, he throws his weapon to the ground, even as Aelistae’s finely crafted blade arcs and draws more blood from the man’s torso causing him to stagger in pain before kneeling and begging for Kassenarion’s forgiveness and his surrender.

“Alright you win! Forgive me, I surrender, I surrender! Please just call off the Drow, Promise me Tyr won’t let me be fed to the spiders!”

*~*~*~*~
Linnix too held the power over the man who begged her for mercy on his knees before her outstretched dagger blade. He had asked her for forgiveness, and she appeared to not care, her anger and frustration over the situation at hand clouding her moral judgement. Her wrist twitched in the chill of the night, and the man before her flinched, reaching and grabbing Linnix’s magical blade, which she had forsaken and dropped conveniently at her feet.

The irritated woman immediately lashed out at the prone man, her attempted coup de grace stealing her concentration for a split second. The man however was not an average bandit, and he seized that second to kick his feet out at Linnix, striking her behind the knees and toppling the smaller woman to the ground beside him. (Coup de grace attempts allow for attacks of opportunity according to the PHB) In the same moment that Linnix’s fell, the stranger rolled to his right out of her immediate reach, preparing to stand.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Down in the cave, Artanis tried to comfort the young boy, but quirked a brow as the youth’s mourning and frightened clutch which had placed his head to her near naked bosom turned into almost a caress as his cheek lay against her burned and reddened chest causing her to wince, and his hands rested on her hips around her back. The boy nuzzled her gently before cooing, “You smell like mom’s cooking.” Artanis could only laugh at the implications.

~*~*~*~*~*~*
Round two:
Linnix, the only member of the companionship away from the rest of the other’s seethed at having been disheveled so. Her target had already risen, but instead of turning on her, took off into the night, the former magical blade of Linnix’s leaving a faint trail of blue with each pump of his arms which carried the sword farther and farther away from it’s original owner.

(Accounting for Linnix’s probable retaliation via thrown dagger or crossbow bolt: Disregard if Linnix doesn’t attack the fleeing man)
In a fury Linnix’s cursed aloud at the man who had not only bested her, but now was making off with her first treasure of real value! Standing quickly and Hefting her arm to throw her dagger/ raise to fire her crossbow, Linnix let the projectile fly, but her frustration caused her flying retribution to fall quite short of its mark as the man ran for all he was worth out into the hills, the shadow’s of night already overtaking the brilliance of the Daylight spell, and casting a dull haze of shadow over the fleeing man.

(as Linnix is the only one who could possibly pursue the man~As she’s the only one not engaged who knows of his existence currently, the man’s full movement bolstered by the “Run” feat will easily place him out of range of the ticked off Linnix. Possibe pursuit later is always an option.)

~*~*~*~*~

The man now captured groveled on his knees, not daring to look up at the drow priestess who stood above him, her courtblade already lined with his blood. Glacning in fear towards Kas he could only repeatedly stammer “Spare me, please for the love of God Spare me!”

Linnix is proficient with hand crossbows because Rogues get it a s a class weapon prof.
I gave Artanis Exotic WEapon prof Bastard sword in replacement of Quick draw since it hadn't been used.

I had presumed as had DA that when she donned the chain she simply stowed the leathers, thus both were destroyed and taken off her sheet (hence her AC of only twelve)

There is a suit of banded mail stil left over, and you do have at least one captive wearing chainmail (chain mail not a chain shirt for reference)

Update today at some point I'm thinking.

Topic: The Chakran Portal - Q/A
Subject: For your reference

KNOWLEDGE DEVOTION [DOMAIN]
You can use your knowledge to exploit your foes' weaknesses and overcome their strengths.

Prerequisite: Knowledge (any) 5 ranks.

Benefit: Upon selecting this feat, you immediately add one Knowledge skill of your choice to your list of class skills. Thereafter, you treat that skill as a class skill, regardless of which class you are advancing in. Whenever you fight a creature, you can make a Knowledge check based on its type, as described on page 78 of the Player's Handbook, provided that you have at least one rank in the appropriate Knowledge skill.

You then receive an insight bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls against that creature type for the remainder of the combat. The amount of the bonus depends on your Knowledge check result, as given on the following table.
Check Bonus

Result Granted
15 or below +1
16-25 +2
26-30 +3
31-35 +4
36 or higher +5

You can make only one Knowledge check per creature type per combat. If you fight creatures of multiple types during the same combat, you can make one Knowledge check per type, thereby possibly gaining different bonuses against different opponents.

Example: Alhandra faces a black dragon, a vampire, and a beholder. She has the Knowledge Devotion feat and ranks in both Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (religion). At the beginning of the battle, she makes checks to gain bonuses against the dragon and the vampire, but since she possess no ranks in Knowledge (dungeoneering), she has no chance to gain a bonus against the beholder (an aberration).

Alhandra's Knowledge (arcana) check grants her a +3 insight bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls against the
black dragon. Later, a half-dragon enters the fray. Alhandra cannot make another check since she has already checked for the dragon type this combat, but she can apply the +3 insight bonus to her attack rolls and damage rolls against the half-dragon as well. This benefit is an extraordinary ability.
