provided a tragic dice roll... I'm trying to save the body.

For a moment… she was soaring. The salty ocean air brushed across her skin, her fur alive with every brushed hair as she was weightless and impervious to the laws of gravity. She was no longer Savaar, she was avian, her wings outstretched and flying. Alas, what goes up… she came down in a perfectly executed roll, pushing her hind quarters out beneath her sending her directly for the largest of the men. She could smell the sweat of toil and the allure of fear on their brows as she neared, and her target was singular in her mind as she leapt in a cross slash, her claws tearing through skin and flesh with ease, blinding the man. She was so determined to extract the information required of the man before her, she hardly felt the blade sink into her flank from behind. It was only when the blade was so roughly pulled from her flesh did she grimace and arch her back in anger.

Katriana wanted nothing more than to tear his face off, but instinct caused the fur on her neck to raise, and survivalist intuition caused her to grab the blinded man and bring him down atop her a split second before an incredible wave of searing flame passed over the ship. The man atop her, shielding her screamed and writhed in brief agony, before going limp, the scent of burning wood and flesh filling the Savaar’s nostrils. The scent was a potent mixture between campfire and mortuary, and it did little to please the feline’s sensitive sense of smell. Flipping the pirate over, she was disgusted when a portion of his skin tore from his charred body and stuck to her fur with a sickening squelching tear. Do you know how hard it is to get pirate goop out of fur?

There was no time for cosmetic thought however, for her situation was far from safe. The vessel she was on was burning around her, and the other companion who had leapt aboard with her was lying unmoving against the rail of the ship. Katriana gauged she had only minutes before the boat capsized, so she needed to work fast. A life had been lost in valor, and should not have been in vain due to some overzealous magic flinging twit without regard for other’s safety. Who fireballs at close proximity? I’d like to take that man’s quill and stick it right up his.. there were more prudent things to do than reflect on the hefty lecture she had in store for the Wench’s resident pyro. Moving quickly, Katriana searched the fallen man who had served as her shield for anything of value, particularly a coin purse or any definable jewelry that might have survived the blast. The Wench had suffered damage, and Katriana saw fit the pirates help repay at least part of it. When she was done with her search, she moved towards Kumadel. She placed her paws upon her neck and checked for a pulse, but finding none gave a feral hiss across the spans towards Nebulos. She too searched her, removing her rings, necklace, and any form of money that may have survived. Pocketing those, she makes a vow to the woman. “I will find out your identity, and see your belongings passed to your family or next of kin. They will know of your valor.”

A crackling of lumber told Katriana she was almost out of time. Picking up Kumadel’s still form, Katriana had made a spur of the moment decision. Dying in combat was honorable and just, dying from a friendly fired fireball however would not see the fallen at the long table of Ragnarok’s mess. Moving back towards the center of the ship, to allow for a running start, the feline ran and once more attempted to span the gap, to free herself and Kumadel from the confines of a fiery death. There was damages to fix, people to tend too, and a wizard who had better know a raise dead spell if he knew what was good for him. As a Paladin and a Warder, Katriana was the law in a lawless land, and she didn’t think she’d have much trouble convincing the Captain of her case, for surely he would be seeking compensation as well.

I never knew Kumadel as a man, but I did know him as a tree... His branches were sturdy, and he reached for the sun in his leaps... his heart.. and the rest of him burned with a firey ...uh.. passion... and he leaves a lovely cedar scent... and well.. umm.. ok so I'm no good with this.

The man hears Aelistae's words, and thrashes on the spikes, causing blood to spurt and pour from his wounds. He spits up blood at Aelistae in response to her words, his tongue having too been cut out long ago. Even if he wanted to tell her something, he would be unable to.

Elesia moved aside the man, her beautiful complexion turned slightly pale at the grim sight before her. "This man looks like he's been sacrificed. This is horrid, even for one such as him."

It was Bart who surprised the rest of the party by speaking. "No Elesia, not sacrificed.... Judged, juried, and sentenced. This is the work of the Cardinal." As eyes turned to the simple farmer he began to recant the tale.

Some years ago, a Knight of the Silver Chalice, annointed by the archbishop and honored by the royal family was sent deep into the mountains on a quest most holy. It is said what he found in the depths of that rock was enough to change the man's very soul. Upon his return his sense of logic and honour had been skewed-- he would kill instead of offering pennance or mercy, invoke Tyr in the name of unjust things, that the line between good and rightly and cruel had been blurred, and that Tyr himself had forsaken him, casting him down out of knighthood and paladinship.

The man, whose name for the life of me I cannot remember, had come from a long and noble line of knights, and with his honour stripped from him was left with nothing of value. And so he turned and left. It is said he travelled the lands both below and out of sight of the sun's warmth searching for answers, and what he found, well... was his own sense of justice. It is said he's gone so far as CandleKeep and the Edificant Library, and even those resevoirs of knowledge and religion outside human realms. Whatever he became, Tethyr apparently, was not something he could simply give up. He returned a changed man. people knew of him, but he simply for many years went by the title of 'Cardinal', though he never spoke of a patron or assosciation to which he belonged."

Bartholomew looked at the Banite once more and continued. "He's wanted by the law, yet the law does not move swiftly to find him, for that single man does more in his vigilante vigilance in a tenday than the militia does in a month. It is the church that seeks him with fervor I'd imagine. Can't have a single man upsetting the balance of things and all I'd reckon. I've personally only seen him once from afar, the man is the stuff of legends. And truthfully, I think the world could use a few more Cardinals about."

Bartholomew moved over to the Banite and offered no prayer for the man's suffering, only calmy stated words. "Had you walked a simpler, honest road, perhaps yours would not have ended this day. m'lady, please be quick with your business we have much more road to cover this day." With that he turned away from the scene and remounted Alice, cantering her around and awaiting the others.

Subject: Tracking

So the decision had been made. Dealing with the disc would have to come later, for now, catching the escaped Banite was the top priority. Bartholomew wasn’t exactly fond of chasing down a disciple of the Dark Lord, but he wasn’t about to let his entire company off and leave him standing there alone with aught but a evil relic and an old mare for companionship. Everyone mounted up, with Loriel and Moonshadow leading the way. Loriel’s tracking skills, and Moonshadow’s keen sense of smell were more than enough to keep on the fleeing man’s trail. It took less than a half hour after their departure to catch up to the fleeing man… who was no longer fleeing. They came across his body, nailed to the ground, crucified. Iron pegs through his wrists and ankles. What was perhaps even more appalling, was the fact that the man was still alive, though definitely in pain. A single pair of hoofed tracks lead away from his body, back towards the east.

As Aelistae gently pulls back the cloth once more, a little more of the black is removed. What she see's beneath is a blackened field, with hints of green, that have not been burned away. It is the upper left corner of the disc that is revealed, it would appear as though a beam of light is shooting out of something.. more of the disc would need to be uncovered to be certain what.

As Aelistae is wrapping the disc in the remnants of the cloak, some of the blackened ash is wiped clear from the disc's surface revealing a portion of an image underneath.

Elesia simply bows her head to Aelistae. "Please, if you can make use of the scroll's contents, then by all means do so." With that she returns to Sunshine and mounts, preparing for the trek aknew.

The Khord took a serious look at everyone who was gathered. Friend and stranger alike were now united in a common goal that would affect those far beyond their reach. Different paths had lead them all to a singlular purpose, and the Khord had an axe for a remedy to that purpose.

"Aye be ready. Need we provisions for the trek? Foodstuffs and the like? or is it close enough that we can leave this very morning unabated?" Was all he said, before toting a swig from his ale filled waterskin.

Whips' eyes for all they were worth might as well have been gold dubloons. It was obvious he was already counting his share of the kill in his mind, long before Nebulos mentioned possibly going after the unicorn.

Selena however was less sure.
"To slay a unicorn, so pure a creature is undoubtedly an act of cruelty and evil. While I understand what riches lie within her beautiful form, and what rare magical components might be harvested, do we really want to cross that line? We're already attacking pixies, something that was not on the doctrine of my signing up to rid a keep of goblinfolk. How far do we stray from our path?"

Whip just looked back and sneered. Without hesitation he fell into the workings of a spell, and in a mere moment the others could tell they were under the influence of a Invisibility Sphere focused on the gnome.

"Bah." Whip snorted; much akin to a dwarf. "The beasts alone, and there are three of us, how hard could it be? Plus, there's noone around to sit us in a corner and tell us boo boo how bad we were. Are ye mice or men? I doubt ye'll have another chance to fetch such fine components as unicorns blood ... or that horn in this lifetime lady. We're talking the things of rituals, epics invocations here, and if not for us, then I be knowni a few patrons who I bet would offer hefty reward for netting us this extra bounty. Perhaps even Gafgherion hmm?"

Just came back from a lovely 3 hour vacation to the hospital filled with needles x-rays and ECG tabs being stuck and pulled off my body...

Seems I've gone and gotten me pneumonia in my left lung and the full force of the flu to boot.. (And I got my flu shot! -grrr--) SO I'm housebound and off work until next wednesday... Which means aside from fluids and sleeping I'll be likely glued well.. here... so now's an exceptional chance for some great progression to the game.

Now, tis time to stumble backwards and hope I make the bed.

I've added a party treasure note directly under all the character sheets on page one of this thread. Bartholomew will be the default carrier, unless otherwise objected. If items are taken from party treasure for personal use, I'll add the character's name holdding it in parentheses next to the item.
