Subject: Choices

The heat, the flames, they were everywhere. The deranged man held all their lives, plus that of the babe in the balance, and the scales were not in favor of the companions when one took the mage’s apparent mental capacity into mind. Artanis, Loriel, and Kas all knew something had to be done, and thusly all three sprang into action. Kas fired off her flare spell, and once more, the simple cantrip had surprisingly good effect on the intended target. Jethro squealed as the sparks assaulted his eyes and he clutched at them, releasing the child in his arm’s upward swing without even thinking about it.

As Loriel dashed low, and Artanis high, time seemed to slow as the screaming, terrorized child drifted higher into the air, and its tiny fragile head flopped at an awkward angel enough for all three women watching to cringe as natural maternal instincts took hold.
Loriel however kept going, her feet having already sprung her forward towards Jethro’s legs. She collided with the mage, his blue-green flame shield seared her already pain-ridden flesh, even as she knocked him over and loomed over him on hands and knees. (Loriel 11/39)

Artanis, beyond all expectations, shifted her rush, springing her step upward as she dropped her sword and reached for the babe. Her fingers miraculously caught the child gently by the blanket in which it was wrapped, bringing it down and into her chest as easily as she could. Without stopping her charge, she rushed past Loriel with a nod and dove out the small window.

Onto the rooftop she went, and then, right off the side tumbling to the street below. She stiflied a shriek as the support of the roof ended beneath her and she fell, but she tucked into a protective ball as best she could to protect the fragile life within her grasp. She hit the ground, and hard, her shoulder smashing the cobblestone and her collarbone shattering upon impact as she collided with the unyielding stone. She yelped in pain, unable to move her shield arm at all, and barely able to move anything else for that matter. The only consolation was that as she strained through tear filled eyes to the package clutched to her chest lay crying, loud and clear into the night even as the house behind her burned with increased vigor. (Artanis 17/42)

Back inside, Jethro screamed at the loss of his prize, his eyes burning from a combination of Kas’ Flare spell and vengeful anger directed at the two remaining targets around him. “I’ll see you all burn!” He called in anger.

Beneath Kas and Loriel, a timber split, and the floor beneath them shuddered as the fires raged around them. The ladder leading to the second floor was overtaken, the floorboards and roof-rafters and thatch were ablaze, and Loriel and Kas would have to make an important decision really soon. Even now, in the thick billowing smoke, It was growing harder to see, and harder to breathe. (-2 on all sight based checks,)

Down below, the fire elementals gathered had all released their flaming projectiles at the elven member of the fire brigade, the small flaming pellets harmlessly diffusing along the protective barrier the elf had smartly erected before entering. His resistance bolstering spell however would no protect him from the beam which split and shuddered, dropping a portion of the second floor almost on his head. Backpeddling and falling to his rump as he did so, the elf barely managed to make it out the front door as beams, rafters and flooring collapsed to seal off the entrance in a flaming barrier.

Subject: So I made a decision:

I'm going to allow both characters into the game for a spell, Solvy you just need to complete a copy of the haracter sheet complete ith your adjustments and I'll add them to the game q/a, Deucalion, your sheet seems ot be in order.

AS for your backgrounds, I loved them both and will try to implementthe information int othe game as we go along.

As a Final thought though before officially making the changes to the q/a and writing an intro post. I ask that you both take the time to read through the game over a leisurely beverage or sunny afternoon, to familiarize youself with the depth of characters, plot, basic goings ons and what not. Obviously we all here I presume know that Metagaming is frowed upon and will not be tolerated, but otherwise, welcome welcome!

On that note, I ask a question for both of you (so I know you've perused the game and the correct response will see you ener, and gain a bonus CD point

Solvy: What is the name of the boy rescued from the Ogre's Cave?

Deucalion: What were the statues bearing a magic shield and spear depicting?

the AC isn't rediculous, and their's o spell resistance or Damage reduction. While the strength and what not may make for some problems (especially a full attack), given if you've got at least 4 players I don't see why they should have much problem with it. It hsould provide a challenge, just not be indominable. Even with a party consisting of one 5th / 6th level caster a fighter based class (which will average some 40 hp himself) and whtever else, when you add flanking and multiple damage sources a round potentially, I think it's a fine encounter.

The man turned on Xaris anger evident in his voice. "Paying for that cloak ost me two of my finest cows! Not to mention the loss of perpetual income they could have returned from their dairy production. After fourty years I finally invested in something I wanted, instead of something I needed, and now it's run off to become kindling for a fire!"

The man almost seems heartbroken behind his outburst of anger, as though all his many years of manual toil, evident by his dark tanned and sun spotted skin and wrinkled under eyes had just been literally stolen from him along with the cloak.

A kindly woman, also of the farmers persuasion saddled up near Xaris and smiled speaking softly. A good cow now adays fetches between ten and thirty crowns on the condition of the beast, and old Mr. Winters there did have some fairly respectable heads of cattle on his ranch if that helps at all sonny."

Subject: Goodness gracious great balls of fire

The flames grew higher and higher, claiming more and more of the building. The heat was extreme, even more so for Kas, who had lost the cloak which she had soaked for protection, and she coughed as the smoke stung her lungs and the heat assaulted her flesh (Kas 29/30 w/ 4 subdual) Not wanting to try her luck with the encroaching elementals, Kas gave a prayer for protection –and good fortune—and began to follow Loriel and Artanis up even higher into the attic. Kas barely made it into the attic, when the floor behind her crackled and part of it collapsed, flaming remnants falling to the second floor, were the elementals gathered around the ladder like lemmings trapped with no where to go, circling it and bumping into each other.

“Good, you’re all here.” Jethro said with a wicked smile. Artanis and Loriel had weapons drawn, each wanting to put the enemy down but not wanting to jeopardize the child’s life. Jethro cackled again as he pointed at Loriel and fired a scorching ray at her.
The scorching Ray struck her square in the chest, burning a gaping charred hole into her bosom. Loriel could not contain the scream of pain which escaped her lips as the wave of searing pain washed over her. It was amazing she could even muster the strength to stand after the assault her body had suffered. (Loriel 22/39)

“Mwa haha ! Oh, something smells like it’s burning, Wait it’s you!” Jethro cocked his head back and laughed a bone chilling laughter of insanity loud enough to drown out the baby’s increased coughing fits as thick smoke fills the attic making it hard to breathe and see. (-1 penalty on all sight based rolls).

The Fire was behind them now, exit cut off without diving through a fiery hole, and spreading fast. The man before them clearly had the advantage. What would they do?

(The flames behind you are consuming the floor / roof/ walls at a rate of 5’ /round. Kas has 5’ behind her, Loriel and Kas are 5’ in front of her, with Jethro 10’ beyond them.)

Down below, the ‘fire brigade has begun waving his wand around, trying to calm the flames with the ‘Create Water’ spells held within, but it did little to quell the rising fury of the fire, and only served to gather the attention of some of the elementals at the top of the stairs, who began to form small golf ball /tennis ball projectiles in their hands.

Immediately the atmosphere in the room changed from one of excited fervor to shock and defensive violence, for there were many, if not all within the room who could not afford to be known affiliates of such an illegal and uncouth thing as slave trading.

Swords, daggers, maces and clubs were drawn and Nash’s visage as he raised his head and the cloak, --Aelistae’s by possession-- fell from his shoulders to the floor, revealing a familiar looking court blade and pair of daggers strapped in a bundle at his hip. A swarm of patrons moved on him, and with all his might he hurled the package towards the cell, it landing and skidding to a stop about a foot outside the cell door. “Here!” Attached to the package was a small metal tube tied to a string, and as the package hit the ground, the chime rang off the steel of the blades it was affixed to, and as Nash was buried beneath a mass of weapon strikes with a grunt of pain, a faint click could be heard as the cell door unlocked and slowly swung open about two inches.

The Calimshite by the entrance seemed to pay little mind to Nash however, his focus remained purely on his commodities. Pulling from his sash a large falchion which trailed a sickly green wisp behind it he turned and pointed to the women. “Stay where you are my pets, one way or another you will fetch me my price, whether it be alive and whole, or as corpses or in pieces. With his declaration, a pair of orcs, both with wooden cudgels and a strange looking creature with almost no facial features, simply a long stretched face with two deep sunk eyes and holes where a nose should be turned to regard the newfound access to their hopeful acquisitions.

From the back of the room, a figure shrouded in a dark grey and black travelers cloak sightly too short for their height entered in silence, nodding simply to the Calimshite with the slightest movement of their head. Taking a place against the back wall, he listened as the worth climbed, before chiming in with an alarming declaration.

"I'll give you the worth of your lives in exchange for the three, came a voice thick with a Tethyrian laced with an almost undercommon accent. You can drop your coin purses where you stand and leave this place, or forfeit your pathetic lives to my blade. With that he pulled forth a gleaming double sword, the crosspiece a magnificent mithril cross; accenting the rest of the blade resembling a holy icon. With a slight raise of his brow revealing a few stray strands of sandy hair and piercing emerald eyes, he smirked. Even now as more than one shocked patron turned around and prepared to draw steel.

“All transactions are final. Thank you for coming, and I’ll see you in hell!”

“Foolish women! You led me here to be captured by these humans! I will kill you for your stupidity!” she shouted in a mock show of indignation, before leaping upon Linnix and clapping her hands around her throat. Yet, although her face was a mask of rage and anger, Aelistae’s hands were loose enough to allow Linnix to breathe easily, and to allow her to prepare to act if the slavers opened their cage.

Linnix did her best to play along, even as the eyes of the crowd turned on them in bemusement. At first, no-one seemed too overly concerned with the spectacle behind the bars. Tessa however shrieked however as Aelistae began to seemingly throttle Linnix after a vicious slap, drawing tears from the woman’s eyes.

From the crowd came a mixture of cat calls, vulgar retorts about watching a drow at her finest, and those that immediately started throwing down their bids even before the auction had officially began. The showing of money and interest however soon raised the volume level of the room to new heights, and it seemed to drown out Aelistae and Linnix’s feigned feud for the time being.
The Calimshite man in the corner ran his large hands across his bald head, wiping the sweat which had collected there off with a flick of his wrist as so many bodies in a small area seemed to increase the temperature within.

“Alright, ladies and gentlemen, I can tell you are chomping at the bit to bid on these dangerous lovelies! Let’s start with the Drow then shall we? Before she ends up killing or damaging the other merchandise hmm?” Bids will start at 2,000 royal crowns.”

Almost immediately hands flew into the air, and in a matter of second the bid had skyrocketed to more than three times the starting value as those who valued wealth above life bid and outbid each other in hopes of claiming the rare ebony priestess to their assorted slave collections.

So our incredibly fast paced Forgotten Realms game has room for one more would be adventurer! Devalero's extended absence fro mthe inn has caused his character's timeline to fall too far behind to keep him going, an as such I'm opening up the chance for another player to fill the void with another character.

Character need be of neutral or good alignment,
level 4
with 8,000 gold to spend on whatever equipment they see fit. (An arcane spellcaster would be useful as the party only has one npc bard) however any class will do.

THe party (currently divided) is at the perfect opportunity to introduce a new character, so if you've interest let me know!

I update at the speed of my players, which means there are some weeks I update 1 / week and there are many times I'd say far above average, I update at least 3 times a week, sometimes more!

The game is deep and involved with action, horror, intrigue romance and more, with plenty of room for character development and interaction. Plus you get to use my own patented CD point program, which rewards playes, by players for creative writing, character growth, and encourages all to become better writers and players. Join today!

One, it's one less person we have to wait on for posting, (makes updates easier on you) scaling encounters is simpler enough, and it gives the party some time for mourning thel oss of a comrade (or loathing him as the case may seem) instead of oh, malius is gone *poof!* what luck, another stalwart adventurer waiting to join our cause.

Renshiir looks at the crystal javelin in her hand, "Actually, if you wanted, I could make something for you with these. We'd just have to 'borrow' that guy's furnace."

Armand turned to Renshiir as though the notion was absurd, if he had read into the meaning correctly. “Perhaps we can borrow a forge indeed, I’m sure there is a way to pay for the use of ones furnace for a spell. Besides, anything forged on our behalf will undoubtedly be used for the benefit of all good creatures on this world. Who would deny such a simple boon to the cause of justice and righteousness?

Caduceus quipped at that remark. “Not everyone has the same black and white view of good and evil as you do Armand. If the man’s reclusive enough to not allow any to see his work, what makes you think he’ll let you into his private workshop and borrow anything?”

“Faith” Was all Armand replied with, a serene smile splayed across his lips.

“So, where is this craftsman?”

Jethro cackled at the warrior before him gingerly stepped forward and drew sword and shield. "Mwa ha!, you are either very brave or very foolish." He said as he held his free hand to the baby and his finger glowed red with an incandescent radiance. "My wants for the baby, are hardly your concern, and as for the house? Well, it separated you and your friends did it not? I'd imagine the rest of them are equally enjoying the hospitality of me compatriots at this very moment." With that he cackled in glee once again, causing the baby to shirek in a wail of annoyance and cough sputtering eve nas the flames began to creep along the roof and floor behind Artanis, quickly moving to cut off any chance for escape. "What does one do when caught between the frying pan and the oven hmmm?" His question was sinister and he almost dared Artanis to step forward again.

Vision reluctantly returned to Linnix and Aelistae as the numbing sensation which had striped them of the capability to move slowly wore off. The two ladies found themselves in a small room, and as they looked around they took in their surroundings. They were on a polished wooden floor, on what appeared to be a ten foot long by five foot deep stage of sorts, the back wall a solid deep red wood and before them iron bars of steel with a locked door on the left hand side. Dancing lights seemed to hover and swirl all around the room, illuminating the surroundings and each other to their eyes. Linnix’s dress was still on her, but as for her makeup what once was a simple layer to highlight her already pretty features was now a caked on layer of white compact, ruby red lipstick and bright black eyeliner that made her appear the part of a porcelain doll. Aelistae was no better off, the white chalky make up irritated her skin, and was an affront to her natural ebony beauty.
Whimpering in the corner was the barmaid who had fed them the meal, equally done up in make up, and now wearing a rather scantily skirt of plain linen, white to match her ‘new look.’The three women had been presented like Geisha girls, and as they looked out through the bars to the room beyond, they soon understood why.

The room was abuzz with activity, men, women, and even creatures whose gender was undetectable were gathered in the small 10x20ft room. Some were dressed elegantly, and other’s garbed as warriors, and most notably, slavers given their customary green bandana with a ball and chain etched into the fabric. There were a dozen patrons here this evening, and they leered at the women, even now some of them counting coins and jewels and calling out to the women.

Near the back of the room, by the single black curtain which draped down to the floor denying any vision into the world beyond the room stood a man with dark bronze skin, bald headed, with a bulging muscular chest and a simple gold sash across his shoulder leading to his hip. As he smacked the small cudgel on the podium before him the crowd began to simmer down and he spoke, his voice heavily laced with a Calimshite accent. “Tonight ladies and gentlemen we present to you a fine trio of women to add to your collections. The serving wench Tessa, from the Green Gryphon right here in Tethyr, already trained to serve and answer to your every need, see how pretty and submissive she is? Then there is the woman named Linnix, who with a little more training might prove to be quite the dancer, but her natural beauty and grace are easily seen, and while I hear she’s quite the little firecracker, I’m sure you all know how to teach obedience to your pets am I right?” To that the crowd murmured and jeered.

“Finally, and I know this is the reason some of you have traveled from so far away this night, is Aelistae, a genuine priestess, and a drow to boot! A touch cookie to crack I’d imagine, but we’ve all heard, and some of us have been privileged to the rumored legendary bedroom prowess of the dark elves. Perhaps it is time to wipe the arrogant smirk from their lineage, and replace their bastard god’s with a prayer of your name? She’s a magnificent dancer to that I can attest, and will add great value to any collection across the land, for surely a rare collectable such as her is found but once a lifetime.

Bidding will begin in five minutes, take the time to assess these beautiful women, and count your pocketbooks ladies and gentlemen, for you surely shall not be disappointed.

Subject: ...you're likely to get burned

The house creaked and moaned in protest as the women desperately hastened their search once more in hopes of finding the child, and recovering her and the infamous Mr. Wuggles. A beam cracked and split somewhere below, and all three women felt the house actually shift beneath them. Kas stared down the fire elemental for but a moment, before searching for water, however the basin was currently empty; no more than a couple hand fulls of liquid sitting in the bottom of the curved bowl. Taking off her cloak, she moved to throw it at the Elemental, who responded with a hurl of his own, the fiery projectile catching Kas’ elegant dress and her bare skin behind it with a painful burn. (Kas 29/30) Quickly patting it out Kas was able to prevent her dress from catching fire however. Her borrowed cloak flew at the Fire elemental, but its heavy fabric, combined with the added water didn’t open nearly as nicely as KAs had hoped, and barely draped across the fire elemental, steam rising from the thing a almost immediately it began to burn its way through the expensive cloak. Kas could not be bothered by material things however, and she moved alongside the elemental which seethed the fiery hues of anger and reached for the kitten, which clawed at her defensively in fear, but did not draw blood.

As Kas turned to leave however, the elemental swatted at her leg, thankfully missing the woman, who held the terrified kitten in the clutches of her dress’ material. She turned to grab at the cloak, but so enflamed and scorched was it that it was already almost half consumed by the heat and flames of the elemental, and was lost. Running from the room, she called “I HAVE THE CAT!” and prayed the infant had been located as well.

Loriel too checked in the next room, battering down the door to reveal what must have been the master bedroom, as ponce polished floors and a large four poster bed immediately met her gaze. The bedroom, for the most part was still in tact, the windows, both framed in expensive trimming of a foreign white wood were in tact, and though the heat in this room was rising with he opening of the door, for a moment, their was a wave of relief as the relatively cool air of the sealed room washed over Loriel. The room contained two other closed doors, presumably to a closet and an antechamber. In the corner of the room, ironically was a fireplace, though thankfully it remained empty, only the ash of previously consumed logs covered the bottom. A small stack of chorded firewood lay in a neat pile beside it. One might presume this fireplace lay in such a position as to share the same flue and chimney as the one below it in the parlor. Aove the mantle was a plaque, the words “For service to the Kingdom, We recognize Augustus Miller, and bequeath him with this blade of honor. Sitting across a pair of mounts affixed to the plaque is a longsword, wreathed in silver and gold, with a highly polished edge. The blade is of high quality, though weather suitable for actual combat due to it’s ornamental appearance is hard to tell. “Artanis, have you found the baby?” Loriel yelled, hoping the others had had more luck than she.

Artanis was in her one track mind, as she hurried up the ladder into the attic. As soon as her head popped up through the entrance however, a thin ray of flame shot past her catching the gathered relics and storage behind her ablaze and the flames quickly began to spread up into the thatching of the roof.. Then came that same cruel laughter, coupled with a baby’s cries. “Hush little baby, speak not out of turn, lest dear old uncle Jethro leave you in this house to burn Mwa ha ha!” Artanis could see that by the back window, the only one in the attic stood a man wreathed in a veil of thin wispy blue-green flames, clutching the child against his chest in one arm tough apparently neither were in any form of pain. “Glad you ladies could join me for this little bonfire Hehehe! Come, dance with me and my fiery little friends ha ha!” At his words, all the fire elementals in the house began chanting, as they exited rooms into the hallway rom the bedroom and bathroom, and clamored up the stairs to seal off escape from below with a trail of fire and destruction behind them. The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire; we don’t need no water let the entire structure burn!”

Outside, the elf in the pale blue robe finished his spell, and a shimmering barrier encased him, and with a pull of his robe around to mask his mouth, he too darted into the inferno, small wand in hand.

"Ah, darkvision." he Deduced before placing the potions carefully away. "These will do us well I think." Standing, he brushed himself off and took a gander at the clearing they had entered. Noting the trampled vegetation, sparse as it was.

"I guess it's time to head on hmm?," Mourn inquired, to which Aramil simply replied with a curt nod as she straightened her pack and prepared to set out once more.
