I had every intention of sending you a personal invite, and Alistae pumped up a level is fine, though obviously you know the oppression you'll face.

Deva and Zonk, both are welcome. I look forward to gaming with you. Stat rolling should be 4d6 drop lowest and add rest. No more than one natural 18.

Otherwise, I'll look over character sheets and get back to you. (Zonk I've got your sheet and I'll review it.)

Subject: Forgotten Realms: Kaelyn Style~Recruitment Thread

Welcome one and all to my first attempt at running a game here on the inn not in a world or setting of my own design. Having been prompted into creating a character to play in a 3.5ed Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, I got excited about partaking in a world I’ve dived into for years upon years in one book, article or another. So here I was all primed ready to play, made a stellar opening post or two and then….
Our DM disappeared off the face of the planet, leaving our hearts and minds yearning for adventure.

So there I sat day in and day out pondering about what to do about this predicament and tonight reached a conclusion. If I can’t play in the Forgotten Realms, I’ll DM in it and bring enjoyment, adventure, and intrigue to others.

So, without further adieu:

The Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes.
Number of Players: 4 (6 Max)
Posting Rate: (Flow of Postage, anywhere from daily to once / week depending on PC involvement and my work schedule)
Starting Level: 4
Starting Gold: 3,000gp
Item Limit / Cost Maximum: None
Races allowed: Standard PHB/ FRCS/ FRPHB Races, others available through explicit consent by myself.
Classes allowed: Standard PHB/ FRCS/ FRPHB Classes, others available through explicit consent by myself.
Alignment’s Allowed: Any (However Evil PC’s must contact me via PM with intent of character along with one (1) full PAGE of character history, ambitions, and villainous exploits past and present. I’ll only allow Evil PC’s who will contribute to the overall intrigue of the plot, not simply detract from progression or cause interpersonal conflicts.)

Source Books Allowed: Complete Series, Unearthed Arcana, (Flaws allowed- Max 2 @ first level) Book of Exalted Deeds, Spell Compendium, Pocket Arcana, Pocket Divine, Pocket Grimoire, Masters of the Wild, Tomb and Blood, Sword and Fist, and most other 3e Supplements. (3.5 conversions often available) others available through explicit consent by myself.

Special: I’m an avid unique racial/ class creator, if you’d like a special class or race built based on a concept feel free to let me know! I’ve many anthropomorphic races already done, as well as Fae and other mystical creature templates up for use.

Starting Roleplaying Factors:
Opening Script Location: Darromar, Capital of Tethyr. Year 1370 DR
Character Description/History: @ least 3 paragraphs of your character’s description, character traits, and history leading up to their current reason for being in Darromar.

ICEBREAKER
Writing Samples: As I try to keep favoritism to a modicum and encourage both newcomers and longstanding ‘big leaguers’ to join my ranks of players, I ask all hopeful recruits to respond with a paragraph to the following in context with a possible character concept.

The shadows dance and cavort around the clearing you have chosen to make camp in. The late autumn breeze fights the mediating warmth of the campfire to send shivers down your spine. Daybreak will come soon, but the constant feeling of hungry eyes staring over you is enough to keep you from some much needed rest. Gazing out between the silent trees of the surrounding forest, a fleeting glimpse of movement darts from cover to cover, shadow to shadow…

Aldaris greatfully accepted the potions, tucking them away for later use if need-be. He looked across the room at the mirror a moment and waited for Allustans' mental reply before entering with a concentrated gaze; he didn't want the distance travelled to be too far for Allustan to respond before he embarked on the mission.

Jeeve's picked up his head resecuring it and walked through the portal just before Aldaris, replacing his deep cloak as he went masking his true nature from prying eyes.

Thondrek's attempted humor had gone miserably wrong, and so with a huff he stood from his seat and approached the serving wench whose attention had been gathered for an order of cider. Slipping her a pair of gold peices he whispered, "Fill the good lady's place with as many ciders and a hot breakfast as one will buy with my welcome and apologies, and keep the change for yerself."

In response to Loda's remark on Dwarven beauty the duskblade gave the waitress a gentle smack on the rear to usher her on her way as he went outside to retrieve his travelling gear. A guisarme was hard to manage in a small inn so he had opted to leave it outside, a quick glance to ensure it was still there, a tightening of straps and a brisk walk around town would bring him back in time for introductions to have been made, and hopefully stomaches to have been filled.

Aldaris moved into the 'board room' Jeeve's in tow, and both sat down and intently listened to Allustan's assessment of the situation along with a mission briefing. Brahm, Grakk,Lar'd Ner, and another whose name was unknown had all agreed to undergo the task at hand to one extent or another with minimal prodding. "It would seem we have a very driven coterie gathered here. Though our strings of motivation may be different, may we come together in harmony to reach a similar goal."

Aldaris took the time to look at each member's expressions as he gazed around the room. "You have brought me here and I have trained for this for many weeks now. Let us put my studies, and your tutlage to the test shall we?"

Jeeve's of course simply removed his head from his shoulders with a twist and a sickening 'pop' and placed it on the table. He was in.

Aldaris meanwhile was in mental communication with Allustan via the telepathic bond. ~Will you now inform me of this 'great evil'? I know you had intended to portend more facts before saying anything, but this meeting speaks of motions underway and surely you have knowledge of possible players whose pieces now set the dragonchess board of life. (pm mental reply if it contains anything important)

Aldaris let himself and Jeeve's into Allustan's home, and took a seat on either side of a dragonchess board. Aldaris arranged the pieces and Jeeve's slowly removed his cloak letting it fall to tje floor, showing his full face...or lack thereof. For Jeeves was not human, not even amongst the living, but instead a skeleton tightly bound in bandages around his face, a crisp clean necktie around his neck and donned in chainmail with a scimtar hanging at his hip. His onyx gemstone eyes reflected the ambient light of Allustan's magical fire. Jeeve's slowly began playing dragonchess with Aldaris, who responded in kind without the slightest concern for his undead adversary.

Allustan would inform everyone soon enough of the reason for their gathering. Aldaris knew with some certainty at least part of the dilemma, but would await his wizard patrons address before speaking his mind.

After three moves, Aldaris had once again checkmated Jeeve's and he shook his head as if in abject disappointment, but a mindless undead could never match the intellectual capacity of one such as Aldaris. -Of course it helped that Aldaris controlled Jeeve's with but a thought, but why let other's spoil his fun?

Aldaris was about to say something, but cut himself short while gazing off into space but a moment. "Excuse me gentlemen, but I have received a summons from my client, who happens to be one of the wisest men in the village. He deigns my swift arrival, but so too invites you both to join me in my haste. Brahm of Pelor, and Grakk of foreign lands, if knowledge or glory be what you seek for a temple, self or otherwise, I encourage you to follow me to Allustan's abode."

With that, he and Jeeve's stood from where they sat, Aldaris pulling out a staff of darkened bone and walking with it towards the door. Jeeve's stood, a rattling and jingling of chain under his cloak the only sounds he made as he too made his way for the door.

Aldaris gave the pair one last look, and bid them follow, before heading to Allustan's.

Aldaris listened intently to the dwarf as he came closer, his physical appearance becomming more distingished as his low-light vision need not strain so much any longer. Letting both he and the apparent stranger of a half-orc take a seat, Aldaris eyed both carefully a moment before raising his hood and letting it fall back in ripples resting upon his shoulders. There before them, and now for all to see was a man of elvish descent, but unlike any other elf anyone here had likely ever seen. His face was a stark white, lacking pigmentation of any kind, save for a large, black, perfect diamond pattern sitting between his black eyebrows between his brow and the ridge of his angular nose.

"Tis a shame to be unhomed in any case no matter the reason I would imagine." Aldaris said, this time in common.

"As I came near, you or your comanion invited me to sit, indicating that I feel a need for your company. This is not quite true. What I have need of is information that I hope you may deign to give me for the simple asking. And providing information, if not answers, is how you may assist me."

"First, do you have knowledge of this area? "

Aldaris looked at the dwarf with a mused look on his face. "Knowledge is power they say, but so too are things of simple courtesy useful in strengthening would be bonds. I am Aldaris du Foret, and I am familiar with some of the region, its people and the day to day affairs of this community, but I am only recently settled some half dozen fortnights prior, so sage of the area I am not. Is there something in particular you are interested in?"

Aldaris moved his head slowly side to side, alternating between directly facing the dwarf and the half-orc.

Aldaris' companion however did not stir, did not move, though those capable of glancing under his hood would find only bandages tightly bound around its head, with only a hole for a lipless mouth present. Where the being's eyes should have been instead were two small semiprecious stones of onyx hue protruding through the bandages.

"Don't mind Jeeves. He's a quiet fellow content to drown his pain in drink and silence, not that he could tell the likes of you much of anything anymore." Aldaris placed a gloved hand on Jeeve's shoulder, to which Jeeve's responded with another swig of his glass, now emptied.

Aldaris shrugged non-chalantly as the wizard transported the trio away with a classic 'Dimension Door' spell, one he had seen used countless times before.. Well alright, 187 times before; he was a whiz at remembering things. "One hundred and eighty-eight," he said to no-one in particular. He raised his shadowed features to an approaching dwarf and his larger shadow of orcish bloodline.
(Listen Check: 15+2=17)
"Glory to the forge, good dwarf, may its bellows always blow hot," Aldaris said in fluent Dwarven, followed quickly by "May 'One-Eye' watch over you, while the other watches behind you stranger,"in perfect Orcish as the pair approached.

-In Common- "Come, take a seat where ye may. it would seem ye have need for our company. What can we assist you with this evening?"

Thondrek sat with his second frothy mug of the morning already fast on its way to being emptied when the strange woman approached, garnering strange looks and seemingly taken aback enough to even forget her own title.

Looking uo at her he finished his drink, and slid the flagon across the table away from him.

"Well if the Lady be kind enough buy the next round, she can happ'ly have me chair, and the floor ta speak her case."

Thondrek accentuated the point buy tilting his empty mug back and forth while doing the same with his chair, one leg wrapped behind the leg wobbling it as he leaned forward.

Aldaris raised his gaze as Auric struck Lar'd Ner in the face, quelling his babbling... at least temperarily. "Peculiar response to one of authority. Humans are a fascinating lot are they not?" Aldaris had asked his cloaked companion the question, to which he replied with but a slow nod of his head.

(Spellcraft check on wizard's spell: 15[d20]+12[skill]=27)

Raising his hand in a wave, and letting out a brief shrill whistle to garner the trio's attention he spoke once more.
"While we who dwell in Diamond Lake oft lead simple lives, let not the actions of one man sway you to believe we are all of simple mind. Please, join me for a drink or meal, while you rest yon road-worn feetand share with me a humble advocate of knowledge the intrigues of your exploits past."

Aldaris felt his subtle connection with Tirra break, but gave no indication that her glance bothered him, he did not even indicate he had noticed, so focused was he now on Auric's thoughts. Aldaris didn't question the morals or motives behind the trio's arrival; he was merely interested in knowledge, and where better to garner such than the source?

Aldaris' companion lifted his drink to the shadow's of his deep cowl, tilting the glass before returning to to its resting place, long black armgloves covering anything possibly visible.

Sitting in a corner of the establishment sat two deeply cloaked individuals. Robes of black covered their features and both sat in silence, each with a tall glass of sparkling water before them, for the water did so sparkle of its own accord a multitude of brilliant hues thanks to a subtly cast prestigidation spell while everyone's attention was focused on Auric. Aldaris and his dining companion sat observing the rowdy adventurers and their claims. Many in Diamond Lake knew Aldaris was Alludan's aide, but fewer still knew much of who or what he was, and none had dared even attempt at unmasking his friend. The two had arrived on strange steeds a month prior and spent most of their time locked away with Alludan doing who knows what. Aldaris mused over the commoner's fear of the unknown, had even quirked a brow when a young deciple of St Cuthbert had tried to 'turn' him and his companion; to which they both merely shrugged and continued on their way.

So with a distanced interest he watched a slight sqabble break out amongst the local rabble and let his mind wander over to tirra's, grasping at her thoughts on the matter while Auric's mouth kept prattling away.

Thondrek kept his eyes peeled and his arm looped around the haft of his guisarme as he made his way into the Sylvari city. He had heard Malius ask for directions and information, and so too heard Loda remark on her desire for new wares, though her realization of a short purse stole some of her thunder.

Moving over to Loda Thondrek pulled out a handful of gold coins. "If ye need be for personal use, I'll buy one of ye druid potions from me own wealth, seein as the party treasure seems ta be for hoardin fer a rainy day. Would 30gold cover one of yer elixers?

(insert any comments)

-following the exchange- "Thanks lass. Might save me when ye or Geim cannot one day." Thondrek turned to whomever kept the party funds. "Might I suggest the communal purchasing of some remove disease potions and perhaps a party wand of healing?"

(insert any comments)

-following diologue-
Overhearing the response given to Malius, Thondrek took his leave after the Syl for their direction was one and the same.
-turning to Malius-
"It be about time we better equip ourselves for the road ahead. More of these infected critters running amok only speaks danger and wasted resources and lives of the unprepared."

Loda, Thondrek will pay 30gp for the potion, more than what a syl will likely ever give you and he'll spot you some extra should you need it.

After that he's off to look for weapon smith's and enchanters...he needs a better blade.

The Herald of Vangal had proven that the forces of apocalypse were not to be trifled with or taken lightly. No-one knew that more clearly than Tai-laan, who had felt but a fraction of the beast’s full might and already tread dangerously close to unconsciousness. Tai-laan stumbled backwards as the Herald moved to finish her, but once again her knight in not-so-shining armor had arrived, placing himself and Raykel in harms way allowing her the time needed to focus inward and mend some of her wounds. (+20hp)

Paorn too had been on the move to protect Tai-laan, his short leg’s spurning him onwards as he recanted from a scroll; the eldritch writings enveloping all the companions in a Mass Shield of Faith. leaving the parchment brittle and easily destroyed by the slightest of breezes.

Atharam however would not bend in the wind, nor would he break in the face of adversity; not when so much lay on the line. Rearing Raykel Atharam called upon Corean’s might in an attempt to lay low the wicked Herald of Vangal in a single holy smite. His Flametongue came down sheathed in fiery wrath only to be cast aside by the last minute bringing to bare of her Fellblade. Light and darkness once again clashed in a display of pyrotechnics, embers and crackles’ dancing along the lengths of the pair’s crossed blades. Not satisfied with the apparent deflection, Atharam turned his blade off kilter and swept upwards, using the Herald’s own weapon as a guide straight back along its length to drive deep into her chest. (-25hp) The Herald screamed a demonic wail and stumbled backwards, slouching to one knee.

Drake his own rallying cry echoing across the battlefield took the Herald’s moment of weakness as a time to strike. With his opponent distracted, Drake thrust his rapier forward in rapid succession, but found it almost impossible to pierce the creature’s tough hide.

Donia for her part had hoped to simply finish off the beast with a series of Magic Missles but for all her power, the Herald’s natural resistances to mortal magic protected her from all the bolts of force.

Staggered, and bleeding profusely, The Herald had hoped to take at least that damnable paladin with her should her escape from hell prove short lived. With a final howl filled with all the rage of the abyss, the Herald attacked Atharam with reckless abandon. Her Fellblade hissed and dripped pitch, it flared in a horrid purplish light and was swept across the ground cutting a deep rend through earth and snow as it swept in a high, diagonal arc at Atharam, catching him under his shield arm and driving deep into his chest, splitting his plate mail like it were paper, and were his feet not looped through the stirrups he would have been thrown from his steed. -38hp(critical) Working with her momentum the Herald swung clear around and arced her blade once more at the wounded knight of Corean, catching him still aback from her first swing and driving deep into his sword arm and upper torso. -20hp

Atharam had to fight to keep the blackness from overtaking him as the pain encroached on his vision and his wounds seeped with brackish blood. Seeing his wounded state the Herald made one final lunge with her tail, hoping to finish the mortal who had so defied her, and as her barbed tail spike came thrusting forward Atharam, too weak to move, knew there was no way to avoid the devastating blow.

It is said there lies a mystical bond between man and beast, and that bond was no better exemplified than between Atharam and his warhorse Raykel. Sensing the danger his companion was in, Raykel thrust high on strong rear legs, his front hooves rotating menacingly as the Herald’s poisonous tail struck the noble steed square in the chest. -8hp[Raykel] The magnificent steed let out a whinny as it came down hard, stomping atop the Herald in anger and crushing the last breath from its infernal lungs. -20hp(critical)

The Herald dissolved into a blackish puddle, melting into the ground burning an 8ft tunnel straight down farther than anyone could see, perhaps to the depths of hell itself. Raykel stood there panting, his wounded underside causing him discomfort while Atharam sat limply in the saddle. At least everyone was alive. From the campground came the Trician survivors and once more they held nothing but praise and high regard for the heroes, but words alone would not heal the many wounds suffered in the early morning.

It was time to reflect, and regroup before proceeding…
