Subject: well:

There are times when I just let the pc's banter back and forth for roleplay purposes, and other times when I poke my nose in to get the game rolling again, typically once you post at least let those directed to in the post respond, then carry on as you wish lol.

For instance, I've asked Da to post a response to you, she's working on one now as far as I, and you could post something in response to her, or the arrival of Xaris for instance. I'll hopefully post a little more for the fire scene tomorrow.

The auction had brought more than the Calimshite had bargained for this night as unexpected guests continued to arrive and disrupt the proceedings; and he was getting more than a little ticked off. Reaching into his pocket, he retrieved a small metal tube, and with a quick quaff downed the entire thing.

He stalked closer to the cage doors, even as the new arrival almost immediately began falling into a spell, the incantation only furthering the fear of Aelistae and Linnix as it appeared as though another enemy possibly lay behind them. A sudden sphere of flame appeared just outside the cage, and rolled towards the Calimshite, who could not escape the rolling conflagration. The sphere burned at his already bronzed skin, and he growled in anger, his own curse at Arcsheva muffled by the flaming gout of breath which left his lips. The flames, released prematurely, only barely washed over the newly arrived mage. (Arcsheva 20/22) (calimshite -7)

Meanwhile, those around her found on for everything they held dear, life, love, and friendship.

Linnix was in a blind rage, pushing through her body’s pain as she struck out at the Orc before her, her small dagger once more slipping past the creature’s defenses and drawing a thin line of blood across his arm. Aelistae followed suit with a mighty upward swing of her own, splitting the Orc’s hide, and chest as the fine blade came free of his body with a trail of blood following. (-4, -10) The Orc grunted a guttural gasp of pain (say that three times fast) and along with his companion they both turned their attention to Aelistae, The recently wounded Orc’s club came up in a mighty swing of his own, clipping Aelistae under the chin, and nearly sending her head spinning as she felt her heels lift from the ground as the might of the blow lifted her. (Aelistae 16/30)

Nash, still parted from his beloved moon-dancer fought on with renewed vigor, his mighty cross-blade arcing in a whirl of blue trails eliciting numerous shrieks and screams as it was set about in deadly efficiency. The whip wielding woman cracked her leather at Nash, hoping to disarm him of his weapon, but found herself dropping the whip instead as Nash gave a mighty tug, almost pulling the woman close enough to feel the bite of his blade. More swings were exchanged as another pair of enemies fell, and as Nash finally came into view, he was like a man possessed. His normally grey-green eyes seemed devoid of their emerald hues, and instead his eyes were blackened orbs of steely void as he set about the grim task at hand.

The featureless mage, along with the gender discretional half-elf turned towards Aelistae and Linnix, and while the mage finished his spell, the orc before Aelistae’s (the one previously affected by the Wave of Grief spell) muscles swelled and rippled with increased strength. (Bull’s strength) The half-elf pulled out a small mandolin from his back, and began playing a haunting melody while singing along. What was even more disturbing was the quasi-elf’s voice was at a tone, pitch and accent that still made it hard to differentiate their gender. The sound fell over all those gathered, and it was evident as those originally welcomed for the auction stood just a little bit taller, confidence filling their actions. (Bardic Music)

casting a spell in combat provokes an attack of opportunity, meaning anyone within melee range of ou (in thi case the skeleton) get's an attack to try and harm you/ disrupt your spellcasting)

Now there is a 'defensive cast' which requires a concentration check to pass before casting the spell, but does not provoke an attack of opportunity. Of course you'd have to make the decision as to whether or not you'd prefer to have the skeleton roll against your AC, or you roll a concentration check vs a DC 16. (if you fail you lose the spell)

(If the skeleton hits you, you have to succeed on a Concentration check equal to 10+ damage taken or lose the spell)

That and I noticed Vorrioch needs his second round post in, so while I've worked more on the post, I'll hold off until I've heard from them in actually posting it.

Now, back to the pepto bismol and bed before work... ugh.

Perhaps it was their likeminded Khordaldrum attitudes, but as Thondrek listened to Loda he could only grunt an agreement as he chewed on an apple, one of just a few provisions he had taken from the stores of Hith Lee. "I agree, we've taken far longer than we ever planned, and it be time to see this story to a close so we can all finally rest like the good little son's and daughter's of Khorax we've been." Thondrek stroked his beard a moment before adding. "And as fer the rest of you, well, I'm sure y'all'd like to get back to some normalcy or pursue other --he paused looking towards Draven and Alyssia for but a moment-- interests.

I never even thought about ressurection: There is a Divine intervenson level of CD points though, where I may fudge a roll to prevent you from needing the ressurection in the first place.

As for myself getting Cd points, sure, you're about the 5th person who'se wondered if I can get them so I'll tell's ya what.

I'm adding myself to the list, starting at 1, and if any of you feel I deserve more, let me know and I'll tally the random bunch (max 3) to my name. Perhaps if I hit the magic number (which I've now rolled ) it'll prove beneficial to you all as well.

some Years back here on the inn, Admiral started a 20th level Evil campaign where we got 20th level gold, evil alignment, and no restrictions. Let's just say that when other players found out my Straight wiard / archmage could out melee the straight fighters, out cast the straight cleric's and cause other pc's to explode without saving throws even hopeful of reaching, it cause quite a stir in the q/a and pm's.

I am of course speaking of Valerian LeFey, Fallen Angel (Reversed Half Celestial template) Evil genius, and magic item's specialist.

That's what two weeks of character building does, especially when you've jst moved into a new apartment, with naught but cardboard boxes for furniture and your computer at the time lol.

However, if his taking off into the street is how you see things, so be it, I'll post about running into the woman asap.

Hammer, in regards to your statement. I typically do not frown upon any creative liberties taken by the pc's (even speach or creating npc's )So long as they have no fundamental impact on the game. IE, Bugsy for instance, I created with the friendship of Ilya apparent, he just ran with it, it lead to no rolls, no buying of anything nothing mathmatical. no problem

Creating a npc in which combat is involved is another story, as it has a direct impact on the game, thsly those should be left up to me. Anywho, this game is filled with new players and those new to this type of thing, it's a learning process, so no worries!

We'll simply take it one step at a time.

AS far as posts have been so far though, I'm quite impressed, and look forwad to more.

Well, I read through Kas and Loriel's post about 10 times before starting my post. but when coupled with the concept of Jethro, the situation they were already in, and the numerous hints I foreshadowed, the outcome was unpleasant if not entirely unexpected.

Currently, both Kas and Loriel are dead, and buried in the wreckage of a burning building.

While I'm sad to have lost two contributing characters, I'd be more than happy to extend the chance for Brianna or DM to continue playing if they see fit. My only rules for secondary charaters is the same as it's always been, you cannot play the same class you just played. I'd like to thank both of you for your character's contribution to the game.

What about ressurection? Ressurection is a costly and timely procedure with many in game effects. Would Kas be ressurected? one could fight to say her spirit trancends the planar boundaries and joins her forgotten family, or now residing with Tyr. Would Loriel come back? maybe, but typically unless the Pc's have the means to ressurect someone (via a party member or follower of sufficient level and resources) Ressurection typically requires an additional undertaking for the church in which the ritual is requested of. Should the Pc's wish to Shirk their quest for that as well, that's up to them, but I'm thinking not as the reprocussions would be devastating considering the timeline.

Anywho, thoughts, comments from players, all players are appreciated.

Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes
Subject: Some fires burn, while others are snuffed out

The flames no longer licked at the heels of the adventurers, they were now surrounding them. Still, Loriel was intent on knocking the mage out moved to punch him, but her wounds were too severe, and though she struck against the fiery protection the man had erected, she served only to send herself into an early grave as her punches claimed more and more of her life. (Both punches hit, dealing minimal damage to the mage, (who incidentally did not take any attacks of opportunity) while costing her damage from the Fire shield both times, for 10 and 9 damage apiece.) (Loriel -8/39) As Loriel slumped over the mage moved to stand, but found Kas looming over him, not only filled with the worry of her companions, but the strength to single handedly deal justice in the name of her newfound god.

With Loriel having fallen, and the flames going to envelop them all in a matter of seconds, Kas knew she had to try and get her friend out of there past the dangerous mage before he had them all killed. What’s worse, an explosion below caused the entire building to shudder, and Kas nearly lost her balance.

~*~*~
Outside, the gathering crowd gasped as more support for the building burned and collapsed, and the entire building shifted visibly to those watching. A portion of the roof collapsed, and the right side of the house exploded in a torrent of escaping heat and flame as the floors creaked and buckled. Artanis shielded herself and the baby as best she could, and was relieved as villagers came to her aid, pulling the baby from her grasp and painfully dragging her away from the burning building which would surely collapse any minute. Even the fire brigade member couldn’t help stop the blazing inferno now, and only looked on in wonder, praying those inside would get out. His prayer was replied to by the entire top half of the house exploding in a violent fireball.

~*~*~
Kas raised her sword to strike the mage, but would find nowhere to strike as he rolled to the side, cackling maniacally. “You’re going to die in here!” he said as he defensively cast what would ultimately be the first of his two final spells. A small bead of fire appeared in his hands, and he launched it directly at Kas, who loomed over him. Tyr’s newest warrior’s eyes grew wide as she understood just what it was that was hurling towards her. She barely moved in time to dodge a direct impact of the bead with her face, but that did little to prevent it from smashing into the roof above her head and enveloping the entire attic in flame. The heat was so intense that no one could even see Loriel’s body as it involuntarily lurched for the final time. The heat washed over Kas and Jethro like a tidal wave. And throughout the entire burning as Kas felt her skin and flesh char and peel she could hear Jethro’s insane laughter, though it was evident he too was in pain.

The fireball may have subsided but no one could have known, for the entire building was now a fiery deathtrap, and as the heat washed over the already weakened structure, Loriel, Kas, and Jethro fell from the attic through the flooring, with the building crashing down all around them. Embers, flames, burning timbers and roofing, flooring and more tumbled down through the floor, as did the elementals that were caught underneath them as they fell, tearing a hole through the second story. Pain wracked Kas as unconsciousness moved to claim her, and her eyes fought to strain to locate Jethro, praying he had suffered a fate equal to her own if not worse. All her senses could manage to find however as a flash of blue light amongst the flames, and her own screams of anguished pain before passing out, likely never to reawaken. (Fireball damage + falling/bludgeoning damage + burn damage = way too much to handle)

~*~*~

Outside, Artanis could only look on as the house collapsed in on itself, and the flames burned high into the night sky.

Subject: So much for a Private Auction

The sound of battle wasn’t nearly as epic as one might think. Only a handful of people could move to engage the three would be combatants. Nash was lost under a hail of weapons as a third of the gathering moved o engage him, and the echo of steel of steel, filtered into the air. Nash grunted again as another strike apparently got through, but twin arcs of blue, causing a human male to stumble back a spell with dual gashes of crimson across his flesh showed Aelistae that her man was still putting up one hell of a fight.

Aelistae and Linnix had decided to spring into action as well, with their weapons so close at hand it seemed this was their best chance at escape. Aelistae moved over to by her weapons and with Linnix’ tear’s in hand muttered the incantation of her spell, as a wave of grief passed over many in the crowd. A handful of those gathered visibly sagged their shoulders, their will to fight lessened as pangs of guilt washed over them. Of the twelve gathered, not including the Auctioneer who seemed unaffected, four appeared disheartened. Two of which were attacking Nash, one who was still in the middle of the room, and one of the Orcs who was approaching the cage. Whether or not the spell had affected Nash, who was unfortunately aught in the conical spell was unknown, she could barely see him through the mass of people.

Linnix too had jumped to her feet, moving to pick up her equipment, bending down to try and pull her knives from the bound bundle even as the orcish, pair, and the genderless creature approached. “You’ll fetch quite the coin up north” one of them said in broken common as they advanced.

Linnix had just managed to untie the package when the first of the orcs swung at the nimble woman with his club, catching her on the side of the shoulder, and sending a wave of pain through Linnix, knocking her back on her haunches, daggers thankfully in hand. (Linnix 24/30) Aelistae responded, with a quick mental call to her weapon, and as she bent down to reach for it, it seemed to jump the final inches to her waiting grasp, much to the surprise of the enemy. The thought of gold and notoriety however spurned them on, and the grief-stricken orc took a swing at Aelistae half heartedly, missing her by a long shot. It was the featureless creature that struck the most worry into the drow priestess. It did not approach within striking distance of Aelistae’s beautiful blade, instead, he began chanting, and Aelistae felt her muscles tighten, as a restricting force fell over her. She combated it with an indomitable will, and broke the Hold Person spell. Whether her success however pained the strange being at all could not be known.

The Calimshite man waved his falchion around in a deadly dance, and laughed heartily as the Orc’s advanced. “You break em, you buy em, he said wickedly.”
Round 2:

Linnix’s shoulder throbbed, but pain was replaced with fury, and taking a position next to Aelistae, she lashed out at one of the orcs, the one who had wounded her, vengeance in her eyes. Her dagger flashed taking a piece of leathery hide from the orc before her, the tip of her knife stained with the dark red-black ichor of the orcish race. Her opponent however only laughed, which caused Linnix only to seethe even more.

The Orc’s responded, both once more attempting to strike the women with their wooden clubs, and once more it was Linnix who suffered the painful blow of the club, while Aelistae’s opponent once more lackadaisically swung at her. (Linnix 17/30)

Aelistae responded to the attacks on her friend with a counter of her own, bringing her courtblade up in a diagonal slash which caught the orc by surprise, and though he moved to dodge, it scraped along his forearm drawing a deep line of blood. (-10) Once more the strange caster in the middle of the room turned, and this time he fired a trio of magic missiles at Aelistae, the darts of force striking unerringly, and singeing the priestess. (Aeistae 23/30)

Nash meanwhile in the rear of the room managed a great blow against the already wounded assailant, and as he fell away the mighty cross-blade kept going to sink into another drawing a gasp from the man who sought to kill him. Stepping behind the body of the fallen slaver however, was a human woman, who uncoiled a length of whip and looked for an opening to strike. The three other men on the warrior however would find little luck in striking him this round; drawing only a small cut as a dagger slipped passed his defenses.

The Calimshite man ushered those remaining in the room into action with his glib tongue. “100 crowns off the winning buyer’s price if they capture their quarry!” This seemed to snap some of the occupants out of their lethargy, and a flamboyantly dressed half elf of an unknown gender turned to face the women, while the remainder of the group sought to end Nash’s disturbance of their auction.

As the half-elf turned however, he pointed at Aelistae and muttered something. At first she thought it was another spell incant, but as Tessa shrieked behind her she realized she was right, and wrong on that account. A flash of light had deposited a stranger into the midst of things, the 5’1 woman with flame red hair took a quick look around, before the chaos around her assaulted her senses and she realized this was definitely not where she had intended to travel, cursing herself for reading that teleportation scroll that was beyond her capabilities.

(Welcome Solvy to the Forgotten Realms, may your stay be long and fruitful.)

Solanis idly fingered the double sided badge, the coin like trinket that held with it virtually unparalleled authority in the absence of his Alpha, and let his sensitive fingers run over every contour of the etched symbols of the disc. Solanis, whose handle or call-sign was Daggerfall had implicit trust in his Alpha, the great Carrigan Øravik. She had rescued him from a life of inescapable hell, and honed him into the lethal weapon he was now. In essence, Carrigan had given him a purpose in life, and the means by which to succeed at that purpose.

“These are your badges. Do not lose them or I cannot be responsible for what might happen to you if you are captured. With this seal comes the full authority of the Inquisition. Abuse my power and I will execute you,” she says sheepishly with a wink. Was that a serious statement? “Now get the frak out of my chambers!”

Solanis had exited the chambers, and worked his way down to the rec-room, where he would once again look to find anyone on board with which to spar. He had hoped that Carrigan herself might be in the mood for another bout, and in all his years he had never bested his Alpha, but then again, that’s why she was leader, and he her faithful pup. More than one such spars had left marks scars and bruises that would remain on Solanis as reminder of his role in the way of things long after the spar had ended, and as he ached or winced as he brushed against one such ‘memory’ he smiled. How he admired the woman.

That momentary nostalgia however was stolen quickly however as Carrigan’s voice boomed over the vox.

Piscivorus get to deck 29, NOW!"

Solanis’ feet were already moving before the command even registered in his brain.

A Question for Renshiir:

Armand turned to Renshiir and thought of a response. “Is it not possible for us to return to Hylon and simply rent a local smithies forge? There are plenty of those, particularly here in Hylon who would be more than willing to assist any goals of which a Saint of their patron sets out upon., must we use this one man’s furnace in particular? I know little in the ways of smithing, but I would think if he will not be so forthcoming with aid we can find an alternative way. Either way however, yes, let us make our way for the city, we’ve had enough frolicking through the trees this night.”

Deunan rolled her eyes at the remark with a smirk, and Caduceus could only mutter. “Froclicking? Hmph.”

I just ead DM / Loriel's posts, and I must comment on something.

As posted in MY response to the last round of actions, Loriel tackled the mage and sufered the damage from the contact via his fire shield. To attack him more by (punching him once twice etc etc) would elicit more damage for each punch, and likely be her demise.

Also, it's a bit presumptious to assume Kas successuly cold cocks the mage who while prone, is still in fine health, and more than a litte p/o'ed.

My update will reflect the 'attempted' actions of the PC's, and the resulting reactions of the NPC's as per normal, but not everything happens the way we'd like them to.

I've kept a rough tally on experience, but because it varies so much by interaction roleplay and ad hoc bonuses etc etc, I keep the tally and planned on offering level bonuses at increments, such as successfully completing a chapter, or a major goal, etc etc.

I will however lend the information that I've thrown in a bunch of extra encounters on spur of the moment creative bursts (Such as the slaver / fire scenarios) and as such a bonus level might be closer than you al think. (hint hint nudge nudge)

Any who hope that helps to some degree.
