After the last post of Crow's actions and words I have decided to bow out of the game. No way such is compatable with the other characters and certainly not Alana. Hope you all have fun.

Having concluded the meeting with the head libraian, Alana suggested a spot to meet in the morning. "Since we all have final preparations to see to, why don't we meet at the ferry tomorrow morning?"

Alana headed back to her room. As usual her entrance was greeted by a pounce and soft bit on her ankle. "Owww!' she gasped in play as the attackers continued to pounce and hop. Then bending down she scooped up the ankle biter. "Minx, you certainly are in rare form today. We have a trip to make so can I get a few moments to gather our things?" In return she received a nibble on her finger. "Ok, ok. First we play then we pack." Sometime later she managed to gather all her things and ready them for the journey. Knowing that this would be the last night with such a luxury available, she turned in early for a good nights rest.

As the sun rose, Alana watched it from her window. After finishing her tea she gathered her things and together with Minx she set out to the stable. There she found the mount promised her by the head librarian. "You are a beautiful creature" she told it as she stroked its neck. Not a war horse for sure but then again she had no use for such. This was a fine riding horse and would serve her purpose much better. As she arranged her pack and saddle she looked for a stool. Finding none she called to the stableboy, "Lad, can you give me a hand?" Her leg made it difficult to mount on her own and she did not feel like straining herself so early in teh morning. Finally moun ted and ready she tossed teh lad a silver coin. "Share it with others." she called as she rode out towards the orphanage. A quick stop there to drop off the money she had collected over the past few days and then back to the library to return the 500 gp. The others would not find her at the ferry. Crow brought too much selfishness for her to travel with one such as him.

Alana smiled as the chief librarian paused a moment before answering about the orphanage. She often left people guessing what she woudl say or ask next. She listened to the price promised as well as the additional requests given. Alana had one more. "Access to the libray would of course include the compendium itself I presume? If so, I will see that it is brought here as quickly a possible." Alana was always looking for new spells and greater knowledge. Such was her version of the daily sword training of the knights or sleight of hand training of the thieves. A smile crossed he lips as she thought of the number of times the local thieves guild had either tried to run her off due to her manner of begging or more often tried to recruit her. "One more condition; a good quality mount. The trip sounds like a bit of a long one for someone in my condition."

Subject: Alana leader?

Alana is a frail woman with a lame leg from an affliction similar to polio. Her looks are just good enough to keep people from staring at her too long but certainly not feel comfortable around her. If you wish her to be the leader in town we might be in for a tough road. :-)

I do not like the split leadership idea; it never ends up working well.

Not it!

Seriously though, Alana would be a terrible choice for leader. Her physical limitations alone make people uncomfortable and she has learned to rely on her self more than others.

Subject: Intro

Where yesterday a crippled woman in a well worn cap vied the passing merchants for a few coins, without much luck, today a beautiful young woman in finery that could pass for court robes in several of the smaller baronies sought charity as well. It was not for herself she asked for such, but rather to aid the downtrodden, poor orphans who filled the city orphanage to overflowing. "Spare a coin or two gentlemen?" she asked a passing pair of overly plump merchants. "Oh not today lass, been a tough month you know and profits are down." She knew it was a lie. Once more she spoke but this time her fingers traced an almost unnoticable pattern in the air. "As you sure you couldn't spare even a single gold coin?" For a moment the merchants looked at her with a blank stare, then they both opened their coin purse. "Why of course we can help the little ones; and it would not be right to give only a single coin." Four gold coins landed with a clink amoung the others in the fine basket. "Thanks you, your kindness will surely be rewarded by the gods." Outwardly she looked pleased, inside she hoped the gods would serve up an afterlife of suffering for such greedy men. Every day it was the same; when she sought charity for the children in her usual form she was shunned and treated with distain. Even in elegant form she found but few of the rich who would part with more than a copper and then they acted as if they would feel the pinch of it. However, even without asking, many of the poor sought her out to give what very possibly was their last copper to help 'those in need'. For those she hoped for an afterlife of comfort. It was nearly midday when a messenger boy brought word that she was to meet with her group. Thanking the lad she gave him a copper coin and his eyes became big a saucers. "For me?" he asked. "Yes for you child, but naught for you alone. See that some others share in your good fortune." "That I shall miss!" he exclaimed as he dashed off to show his friends his windfall.

Dropping her guise, Alana made her was to the group and listened to word of the invitation from the librarian. At six they all met with him and learned of his request for assistance. "I take it that the item cannot be gathered by normal methods. The owner is not interested in selling it or your own people would have retrieved it. Who exactly has it and what manner of procurement do you authorize? I am sure that we can come to some agreement on fair compensation for our efforts, yes?" Alana waited a moment before adding, "By the way, have you had a chance to donate to the orphanage this month?" Alana was not sure exactly what answer to expect from this man.

Alana drew her cloak tight as the cold rain seemed to find every little gap between it and her neck. Holding tightly to her staff she leaned on it for support as the cold sapped the littel strength her lame leg had left after a long day. Once more holdign out her cup she sought a copper froma passing merchant. "Begon you street whore" he snarled as he turned up his nose at her. "May the gods bless your generousity" she called after him while making mental note of his face. Next time he might be in a more generous mood, especially with a bit of a suggestion planted in his mind. "might as well get inside before I catch cold" she thought. She made her way slowly back to the inn but made on stop before arriving at her ultimate destination. As usual, she found the person she sought on a corner near the wharf. There in a spot even other beggers avoided, a woman and her daughter huddled together for warmth. There were precious few copper coins in her begging cup. Too few in fact to even purchase food for them both. Taking the coins from her own cup as well as a few from her own purse, Alana handed them to the young girl. Although covered in dirt and shivering from teh cold, the child smiled and ran back to her mother with her newfound treasure.

After a hot meal. Alana took her usual place by the fire. It was not long before the tavern was filled with both regulars and the travelers needing a place for the night. Conversations filled the room and Alana took in as many as she could. Her pleasent night was interepted as a man in fancy chainmail shoved her aside. "Make way wench. I need to warm myself after a day of travel. I cannot believe they let such as you in this fine place." Alana sighed, as usual her appearance made her the target of others scorn. Standing barely more than 5 ft tall and even less whn she leaned heavily upon her staff as she did now she was not a very imposing figure. Her slight frame and crippled leg gave no clue that she was anything other than a street urchin. Only those who spent time with her realized that her mind was much sharper than one would expect. During the course of an evening she held conversations in several languages and on a level well above that of a begger. As teh fire burned into embers she made her way to her room. Once inside she pulled out a few items and cast a warding spell upon her door. Alone in her room, she spent the next few hours studying her tomes before turning in for the night.

Morgrid entered teh black boar and was assulted by the smoke and smells. "Not even Morgrid stick this bad" he said. Looking around he was happy to see the inn fairly empty as that meant less people staring at him. He took a seat and asked the barmaid for some stew and some grog. Then he waited. "Morgrid wonder who will be his new friend" he said to TK.

Topic: Jeldon's puzzle
Subject: Jeldon's puzzle

The arrow streaked towards its target, at such close range the bowman was sure of a kill. His jaw and bow both dropped as the intended target simply grabbed the arrow from midair a scant handbreadth from his face. Wide eyes of amazement gave notice that the target of the arrow was no less shocked than the bowman.

Nothing about Jeldon suggested he possessed some mysterious powers. A tattered cloak of rough wool hung awkwardly from his gangly frame trying to hide the ill-fitting, soiled shirt and pants that looked as though they would fit a man twice his size. A single boot covered his left foot and the right was bare and calloused. He was making his way to Azbardon, hoping the begging was better there than in the capital. Or at least that the guards were less inclined to shoo away the downtrodden in an attempt to uphold the charade that Azbardon was a city of importance and not the capital of a tiny, destitute dukedom. Great grey clouds drifted low and annoyed travelers with a steady mist too light to need weatherproof cloak but too heavy to allow them remain dry. Jeldon adjusted his pack after retrieving the last piece of stale bread in an attempt to ward of the worst of the pains in his empty stomach. His hand was almost to his mouth when his vision blurred for a moment. Blinking twice to clear his head, his next sight was that of an arrow on a path towards his chest. He had to blink again as the arrow appeared to be moving no faster than the sap of a pine tree in early fall. At first he thought it an illusion and reached out to touch it. When his hand wrapped around the shaft his vision once more blurred and next he knew, he was holding an arrow and looking at a dumfounded bowman. “Wait!” Jeldon yelled at the fleeing figure. Confused, Jeldon continued his slow walk and tried to make sense of the events.

Was it delirium caused by hunger? Was it some sort of strange magic? None of it made any sense. Jeldon walked lost in his thoughts and paid no attention to the path ahead. Such was his inattention that it way well into dusk before he stopped to take his bearings. A clear sky foretold a cold night but allowed for easy reckoning of position for one skilled in such things. Alas, Jordan was not among their numbers. Resigned to a night camping in the woods, Jeldon began to gather sticks for a fire. The days drizzle made dry wood scarce and he had to venture well of the path to find enough kindling. As luck would have it, he also found a small cave that would provide shelter. Making his way into the cave, Jeldon began to craft a fire. As the spark flared to life and the wood began to burn, he noticed movement at the edge of his vision. Two small bear cubs peered back at him with eyes shining in the reflected light. Suddenly aware of his mistake, he turned to leave but as he did his vision once more blurred. Shaking his head to clear it, he found himself but two arms lengths from an angry mother bear. Standing erect it towered over him and its mouth was open displaying teeth like daggers. A deep growl gave notice that it was not happy with his intrusion into her den. Jeldon knew he was as good as dead and closed his eyes and crossed his arms before him in a survival reflex. Seconds ticked past and the anticipated mauling did not come. Forcing himself to open his eyes, he saw the bear had closed only half the distance between them. As he watched, the bear continued towards him but so slowly as to be almost not moving at all. Memory of the arrow flashed into his mind. The two cubs still moved at normal speed and seemed lost in play. Jeldon carefully made his way past the she bear and out of the cave. He ran a good distance before looking back. The bear stood at the mouth of its den sniffing the air as if trying to determine where the intruder went. Not wanting to press his good fortune, Jeldon moved further away at a good pace. An hour passed before he felt safe enough to stop and make camp for the night. His mind tried to make sense of what had transpired but could come up with no answer. Finally sleep overcame him and as the fire burned to embers he drifted off to sleep.

Morgrid heard the crash then saw the rock. "That not supposed to be inside" he thought to himself. He was just about to pick it up and throw it back outside, likely not through the same window, when TK picked it up and began to unwrap paper from it. "Rock has paper on it? That strange, why try to keep rock protected?"

"Tk is good name. Easy for remember." the two walked a bit and finally came to a house where TK called out for the owner without success. Instead, he found a note. After a few momnets he looked thought the herbs, creams, salves and elixers. Brining one over he motioned for Morgrid to sit. "You know how to figure the scribbles on paper? You smart." As TK tended to his hurt ankle Morgird relaxed. Perhaps he relaxed just a bit too much or perhaps the beans last night had not been cooked well but the silence was interrupted by a "Bbbbrrrrpppp!" Wrinkling his nose Morgid waved the air in front of him in an attempt to clear the smell. "That one make dead granpa sit up." Then in a moment of pure brilliance for Morgrid he added "Maybe there an herb to make Morgrid not stink?"

With introductions made, Morgrid followed his new friend to the healer.

Morgrid was not surprised when the first guard looked less than thrilled to see him. The second guard allowed him passage and instructed him to head to the garrision. "OK, I go to garrison. Thank you." Mogrid made his way into the city and pondered his new problem. What exactly was a 'garrison'. "Maybe it is name of an inn where healing persons work. Yes that must be it" Pleased at his excellent reasoning skills, Morgrid began his search. Of course he could not read but that was not a big problem as most people could not read and teh shops all used signs to advertise their business. Making his way to a inn with a picture of a boar on a plate he entered. Striding right to the bar he got to the point of his visit. "I Morgrid. Hurt ankle. Looking for healer. Guard said healers work at place called 'garrison'. Is this the right place?"
