The sky is blue because Glory of Gallifry ran out of black crayons as explained in the first post; at least that is her story. I believe it is a vast left-wing conspiracy to subconsciously get people to vote Democrat in the upcoming election (they are always depicted as the blue party).

Algebra was created by the ancient Greeks who had many logs laying around to do metrics on and thus was born logametrics. Bricks were scarce if present at all and they are inherently less environmentally friendly than simple wood. Plastic simply was not invented yet and so platicometrics makes no sense.

Billy quickly saddled his horse and rode out with the others. It seemed his mount could tell this was no ordinary day ride for its was full of nervous energy. As they left town Billy allowed the animal to run in order to release a bit of the extra energy.

Soon the forest came into view and he reigned in his horse so it wouldn't trip and fall on the many tree roots and underbrush. Though he didn't draw his sword he kept a keen eye out for trouble. Somehow he just knew that the magic of the amulet would have a "but" in its ability to shield their location. Soemthing like, 'it shields you from the dark one BUT makes dragons unhappy' or 'they can't find you BUT they have demon-spawned tracking dogs that can follow a 3 week old trail'.

Billy grabbed his gear and was ready to move; he didn't have to be told twice after the story he just heard. "Which ever way he goes, we should go the opposite and confuse the Dark agents." Billy smiled as if his statement was the most profound bit of deductive reasoning ever displayed.

Subject: Nothing is what it seems

Billy listened as the stranger spoke and teh more he heard the more confused he became. The old woman who helped them, healed one of them even, was an agent of this myterious 'dark one'. And the mage before them now was on thier side, at least it seemed so as he bore the mark. "How do you come to have the mark? Are you also from another place?" Billy asked as he studied the mark looking for anything differant about it than the one on his own hand though he didn't expect there to be anythign differant. "How can we know who to trust? You say teh old woman is against us and you are with us. But she also claimed to be on our side and aided us much as you just have." Billy scratched his head then added, "She didn't have the mark or she didn't show us one so maybe she really is a bad old lady. You see, this is why I don't liek mages, they are too tricky. At least warriors of honor show their allegence and make known who they serve." Billy placed a hand against his forehead, "I think this is all giving me a headache."

Subject: A question

I assume you brought the healer and from the look of the gem that exchanged hands she does not work cheaply. I aapreciate the sacrifice and gesture. However I believe you are a mage not a healer, is that correct?" Billy paused a moment but he already knew the answer. "As such, you have not earned my trust but at least I will say I no longer distrust you." That was about as far a Billy could go with a mage other than the one in his present group. Healers were fine and common in his native lands and so their presence gave him no discomfort; in fact he found it comforting to know that they had already encountered two healers.

Subject: where is the healer?

Billy had no weapons drawn as he walked into the inn, he knew that only a very powerful healer, like Larza who attended the gathering at home, could have done such. Mages he had little use for, but a healer was another matter. One could never know of too many healers, especially if you weild a sword for a living.

Billy saw the three men come out of the inn and was sure the one being helped was the barkeep. "How, but he was dead." Billy did not wait to check but entered the inn to make sure nothing strange was going on inside.

"Shhh" Billy motioned for Thor to keep quiet. In a whisper he explained, "Alea saw that stranger and someone else sneaking this way and she wanted to get a look. I am waiting here in case she gets in trouble." As he turned once more to the door he muttered, "trust him, hmmph".

Billy nods in agreement. He would wait for her signal or for a scream that sounded like someone in danger. Either of them would bring him at a full run.

Billy nodded in agreement at Alea's thoughts that the stranger reentering the inn secretly and through the back door was a bit strange. "OK, lets take a look." Billy followed Alea around the back of the inn. If anyone saw them it would likely have provided them a good laugh at a man of Billy's stature attempting to "sneak" anywhere.

Billy nodded as Alea spoke. He didn't really understand exactly how clerics conversed with their gods and if they ever got simple answers. But he trusted that they did and that was enough for him. "I hope you get an answer. Please don't let my opinion of mages influence you. I simply raised my concerns so others can use them in making a good decision. I am not so good at that. No matter what choice is made I will support it for we have to stick together. As for why teh gods chose us; they must have reasons. Perhaps those with greater power would be easy to identify and would have brought too much attention. Perhaps the gods worried that those with power would have made changes here that are not suitable; perhaps even trying to take control of this world themselves. I just want to finish this task and hopefully go home."

Subject: Thoughts?

Billy watched the man leave, he couldn't say he was not glad he was gone. In truth the man had not done anything outwardly hostile or even suspicious; in fact he had calmed the mob. However he was still a mage and mages brought trouble according to his father. Instinctively Billy's hand moved to his sword as he thought about magic. Trust in steel his father often told him and so far it had been steel that kept the party safe from harm; magic based harm at that. Then again his current magical companion had so far been helpful. Well maybe helpful was a strong word as she did seem to attract attention but she tied her best to help the group. Such thoughts ran thru Billy's mind until he noticed Alea.

He watched her holding her holy symbol and it appeared she prayed for a moment. When it looked like she was finished, Billy spoke to her. "What do you think of the stranger? Maybe he really wants to help but it is just that he is a mage and all. Never could find a way to tell the good mages from the bad ones; assuming there are good mages." Billy smiled and laughed as he said the last. "I know they can't all be bad but it certainly would help if they wore white or black hats like in grandma's stories. Then maybe I could tell them apart."

Riddle may or may not but I have some doubts. Why should we trust this stranger? So far we have found precious few allies and many enemies. Please do not take this the wrong way but there is no way to know if you were marked before or if you were just marked now. Is the mark a good thing placed by the old woman or an evil thing as claimed now? I make no secret that I am distrustful of mages. It is your head that is marked and if you wish to do as he asks that is your choice. As for me, I will be waiting outside whenever we are ready to go." With that Billy took a piece of bread and chunk of cheese and walked out of the inn.

Billy nodded as Riddle spoke about not trusting the man. "I do not really trust him either. So far it seems that our group has proved trustable but nothing else has been what it seems. But, I let the smart ones do the thinking for now." Billy returned to the origional table with Riddle and laughed when a lost wager was mentioned. "Yes he lost and we were simply discussing the payment. I believe it was 1 gold piece was it not? I guess you will be paying me that now." Billy smiled, winked at Riddle and thought himself very smart for his little trick.

Subject: Trustworthy?

Billy returned to the common room and smelled breakfast cooking. He hoped there would be eggs and bacon but he was hungry enough that even gruel would be welcome. As he waited he listened as Alea related the entire tale of their trip to the stranger; including that they had come from other worlds. Billy wondered if perhaps she had relayed too much to one they barely knew. True he had calmed the crowd but it was possible he had killed the man himself and staged the whole incident to gather information. Trustworthy was not a word Billy tended to use with mages. For now he would keep an eye on this stranger and an eye on his companions.

Billy saw the look on Karil's face andrealized that like the others he was ready to be judge, jury and executioner. Billy shook his head, 'Why is it mages always casue such troubles?' he thought to himself. He was just about to spek to Karil and attempt to convince him to at least move the widow out on his own when the door suddendly burst open.

Billy half turned so as to be able to see both Karil and the door while he drew his greatsword. Seconds later he saw the tone of the crowd change and along with them he relaxed just a bit. He looked at the plain clothes and fancy staff of the new arrival and muttered to himself, "Oh joy, another mage; just what we needed." He was a bit surprised that the man took the side of the party and seemed pretty good at convincing the mob that although he did not know who killed the innkeeper he knew it was not the young woman with bloody hands.

At Alea's request, Billy sheathed his sword and escorted Siliwen upstairs where she could clean herself. 'What the heck is a Shelnak?' Billy wondered silently.
