That is exactly what I am going for; kind of a fun character but not quite civilized.

Mogrid limped along until he found a small village. As he approached he saw two guards. Just as he was about to say hello, one of them yelled at him to "Hold" and explain his business. "Morgrid hunt. Prey get away. Norgrid fall and hurt leg. Need healer or place to rest. You have place?" Mogrid thought a moment then added, "Morgrid can work when better to pay. Morgrid good at lift heavy stuff." Satisfied that he had eloquently explained himself he waited for an answer. While he waited his butt itched so he scratched it; then he smelled it like he was taught to make sure there was nothing bad on it. That led him to realize he had something in his nose so he dug that out and not wanting to soil his clothes he ate it. No sense having the nice guards think he was not an upstanding fellow.

You receive an answer to your prayers-however it is the winning lottery numbers for yesterday.

Rolls to see if I will have more or less grey hair in 10 years.

Subject: The hunt

Morgrid watched the creature. It was a cunning thing. For several hours he had stalked his prey and made several attempts to capture it. Each time he met with failure as the wily creature seemed endowed with the agility of a nymph and found a way to elude the net. Once more Morgrid stalked ever closer, he had to time things just right or the creature would see him and flit away like a leaf caught in the winter wind. "That's it. Just a bit closer now" Morgrid thought to himself as he crept ever closer. When he thought the moment was right he lept up and used his net once again. As before it took only a moment for the creature to see him and escape unharmed. Desperate now Morgrid gave chase and was so focused on his quarry that he totally missed the large rock that loomed ahead. One moment he was at full run and the next he was flat on his face and his ankle protested the mistreatment it had just endured. Slowly Morgrid checked his ankle and found that although not broken it was indeed sprained. It seemed teh hunt was over and he limped towards the nearby town. He would rest and then when ready he would continue the hunt.

Seeing the raised eye Algrek shrugged. "Interesting display. Such talents could be useful at times. I am intrigued at the workings of the sword he mentioned. Then again whenever traveling with his talents one runs certain risks. I leave the decision to you."

Algrek's lips curled into what almost be a smile. "As you might guess Thorn, my talents do not lay in the physical realm. I assure you however that all the weaknesses of my body are balanced and more by the power of my mind." At that point Dweezle popped his head out of a pocket. "And this is my companion, Dweezle. Not overly friendly, he has been know to bite." Algrek made a squeeking, chirpy noise to animal and it once more disappeared into his pocket.

Algrek listened as the woman spoke with their new arrival; a thief it seemed. Experience told him that such were often of use but more often required a close eye. It was not until the newcomber inquired about Algrek not to him directly but to the woman that Algrek broke his silence. "I am sitting right hear and my hearing has not forsaken me. It is impolite to ask about someone as if they did not exist. Further it is impolite to ask for another's name while witholding your own. For now I will chaulk it up to the lingering effects of the mead. However, in the future I would appreciate a bit more civility. You may address me as Algrek."

Algrek watched the obviously drunk man as he left the inn and again moments later when he returned. After a few incomprehensible words, spoken much to loudly, the fellow fell to the floor. "Seems the mead has won that fight" Algrek turned to his tablemate, "I hope such as he are not what you seek."

"Compendium of Sren? No, I have not heard of it. I take it that you have an interest in the item." Algrek looked around, "Yes there are a few in here that might be above the ranks of the unwashed, brainless masses. To be honest, I have never seen the interesting looking ones here before nor do they seem to know the local peasents." Algrek shuddered a bit, "Such ignorance makes my skin crawl." Another pull from his ale drained the mug. He caught the arms of a passing server. "Tell the barkeep he should be ashamed to call this swill ale. Perhaps for a silver piece he can find something palatable."

"Tell me more about this compendium."

It didn't take long for Wiz to realize that the other two who were wandering the campo with him were not going to lead him to anything interesting. Well I guess I need to find my own fun" Wiz thought to himself and he deceided to see what the rest of the recruits were up to. Picking a door at random, he walked in. The looks he god were not very inviting except that Wiz was sure it was only an oversight on their part. "Hi fella, what you up to?" Without waiting for a reply he launched right into introducing himself and telling his story the ride to the barracks and how his group picked a leader. Then, he simply left to find somethign else to do leaving many of the fellows scratching their head.

"Oh a tour of the camp. That sounds like fun. Who knows what might be lying around waiting to be found. Perhaps we will find somethign interesting to do. Sitting here is getting rather boring." Wiz prepared to follow the others outside.

"Recoup the payment? Ah that I could. Though I doubt that you have the power to change my 'agreement' there is no reason to avoid the possibility." Algrek sipped his ale. "What exactly are you proposing? I assume it is something that is not for the 'ordinary' amoung us to undertake."

Wiz listened to the new arrival. "Too many things in your past? Well what sort of things? I like things. Of course having too many things can be a hassle as there are just not enough pockets to carry them all. Of course I just replace an old item with a new one when I find it." Rummaging in his pockets Wiz came up with a button. "See, things like this just find their way to me. Never know when a good button will come in handy. Wiz replaced the button and looked back at the new arrival, "So what kind of things do you have?"

Subject: the past

"Ill? No it is more than a common illness that leaves me so. And as for old, would you beleive I have counted no more than 27 years? This body is not the result of age but rather a, shall we say, payment. It was not more than 2 years ago that I left this dreadful town and set out to find a more exciting existance. Perhaps I should have been more careful what I sought for indeed I found what I sought."

Algrek picked up his mug of warm ale. "I find that even the worst ale tastes better if properly chilled." In moments a coating of frost covered his mug. He took a drink, "Well now it is at least passing."

Once more the weasel poked its head above the table. "Well now you are in a rare mood this evening my small friend" Algrek lifted the weasel into his lap. "This is D'weesle. He has been my sole companion for the past year. Whether he is my familiar or I am is has not yet to be established."

Algrek's attention was drawn to a rather flambouyant young woman who actually flounced into the bar. He noticed that most eyes were on her but unlike his, most of them were filled with desire. Algrek's eyes betrayed just a hint of envy. "I wonder if she is greatful for or even aware of the gift she possesses."

Turning his attention back to the lady at the table, "So what brings one such as you here? It cannot be chance that brings a stranger to a town such as this."

"I am afraid I must sit" Algrek replied and took a seat at the table. After a moment to make sure his staff was in easy reach he settled into the chair as best he could. "Darn aches and pains seem to get worse everyday." He studied the women cross from him and wondered what brought another very out of place soul here tonight. "Not from these parts I see." He laughed and it turned into a couch. "I suppose it is rather apparent that I am not as well" Algrek smiled, "Well that is not quite true, I was from here when I was a lad but that seems like liftimes ago. Not a single one of them recognise me though I grew up with a good number of them. Seems my path has changed me more than I ever imagined." Algrek picked up his mug of ale and frowned, "It is criminal what they pass off for ale here these days." As he drank a small head popped into view just above the table top. "Now, now d'weezle, not romping on the table for you." He scrathced the weasel behind the ears a bit and then it disappeared backinto the pocket of his cloak.

Noone really noticed the frail, almost pale figure that entered the inn. Not that anyone would have reason to notice one such as him. "So soon they forget" he thought to himself. "Then again I am not quite the ravishing young lad I was when I left those many years ago." He begged coins from several tables and in every case he was told exactly what he could do to himself. Soon even the barkeep gave him a look that said that perhaps he should move on. Algrek made his way slowly to the bar leaning heavily on his staff. For all teh world he looked another begger. The only thing perhaps notable was the small black weasel that on occasion stuck its nose out of a pocket on the man's robe.

'They do not know you enough to fear you' was the thought the weasel sent to his master. Algrek laughed to himself, "why should they? This is a hangout for those who judge power by the build of a man's muscles." Algrek made his way to the bar and asked the keeper for a mug of the cheapest ale he had. 'Let me see your coin first' the keeper said in a tone that implied he was not into charity cases. "I am sure I have it here somewhere" Algrek replied and made a show of scraping together the 2 copper cost. A mug of ale was produced and Algrek looked around the inn. Then he noticed a female figure who looked out of place. Moving to her table he gestured to an empty chair, "May I sit?"
