Topic: Inheritance -- the game
Subject: just wait

Velina smiled, "Why thank you; saying I didn't seem the type means the look I was going for worked. Who knows, if they get closer you might get another surprise."

Subject: under attack

"Looks like it just got less 'boring' my friend. Let's try to even the odds a bit if you don't mind before you worry about fighting 'fair'." Velina pulled out her crossbow and took aim at the nearest rider, she didn't really care if she hit rider or horse so she aimed basically at the center of the two combined. She let the bolt fly and hoped it found flesh.

I was just confused as a player as your posts had one camp under mounted attack and the other seeing riders in the distance with one guarding the others. Velina is only concerned with the ones she sees.

So there are 8 riders in total: 4 at each camp?

Subject: try we will

"Oh I intend to try. I just want to make it very clear that right now we all do as we please and noone else really cares. Those two who talk of being leaders didn't even try to stop me from leaving or you from following. They left the party split because it didn't matter to their own plan. They are not thinking of the group but of themselves. Staying right at the site of a battle is idiotic unless you are a warrior and want to seek further confrontation. There are those of us who are not and who are vulnerable in battles. Gotta think of our safety as well. We need to try to take the keep but need to do it in a co-ordinated and considered way; not just yelling charge and taking our chances."

Subject: wound up are we?

"Boring, or as I like to call it peaceful. What has you so wound up you can't sleep? Camping is supposed to be relaxing." Velina stirred the fire a bit and hot ash rode the air currents up into the dark sky. "Think we have a chance to pull this thing off?"

"I'll take first watch if you don't mind. Perhaps it will give me a chance to think about where this journey is headed and how best to steer a ship with no rudder."

Velina spread out her bedroll so it would be ready when needed and sat down to think and watch. In the distance she could see the fire belonging to the others.

Subject: not exactly

"Until today I have not taken another life save in hunting. It was easier than I thought and also harder at the same time if that makes sense."

Finding an appropriate spot, Velina comes to a halt. "I think this place will do nicely for a campsite. I'll start a fire and we can settle in for the night."

Subject: travel talk

"Daggers are not the best defensive weapons if you intend to fight fairly; I do not. I intend to be the one alive at the end of the fight." Patting her new crossbow she added, "At least now I have another option if necessary."

She thought about Almyrikon's question. "You know, I never really worry about who thinks they are better than me. If they feel superior that may just work to my advantage. Being half-elf and half-human to me means that while I am not as capable in some ways as either, I am better in some ways than both."

After a while she asked a question, "Have you ever killed someone before?"

Subject: a short trip

"Well Almyrikon, good to see you are joining me. I feel a bit safer with a companion." For a few minutes Velina continued to ride in silence. "That was some nice bow work back there. I think you rained on his festival though. Bet he was kind of surprised and a bit mad that he wasn't superior to you as he expected."

Subject: Rude maybe

Just showing that there is more to leading than skill at arms. Besides, pride can get in the way if you can;t control it.

Keep in mind that at the moment Velina has no ties to anyone as she volunteered to follow the true heir. None fit that description and the group cannot deceide on who is in charge. She is not really that impressed with testosterone shows.

Subject: good show

"Excellent show, both if you. If any trees attack us I feel more than safe with the two of you around to protect me. Of course hitting a stationary target while under no pressure is one thing but... I mean we are all pretty confident that our friend could make short work of a tree with his mighty axe but this last little encounter showed that hitting an opponent is somethign entirely differant. Then again there is the matter of one of us allowing their personal judgement to cause them to act." Waving from her saddle Velina added. "I will be about a half mile back the trail setting camp in a sfer location. Any who care to join me are welcome. Those who do not, I thank you for serving as a warning force in case anyone comes looking for us."

Velina wheeled her horse and set off at a slow walk. She would set her camp as indicated.

Subject: squabbles

Velina laughs out loud and walks over to the tree. Taking out her daggers she first cuts off the embedded arrow and then digs out the arrowhead. "There, I hit the same spot twice in a row. You never said using a bow." She shook her head. "Skill in combat does not equal leadership. In fact your little boast showed that you tend to think lineraly and not consider alternate methods." Motioning to the dead cleric she adds, "Fine lot of good following a religious fighter type did this group."

After a moment she looked at everyone in the group, "A person moving forward on thier own is an individual. Only if there are others following behind them are they a leader. One cannot claim leadership; it is granted to them by those who follow. A vote perhaps amoung us would be in order? But for now that can wait. We need to drag these bodies a distance away or move back the trail a bit to set camp so we are not smelling them all night." Moving to the captured horses, Velina looks them over. "I'll take this one." She gestures to the sturdiest looking one. "We are gonna need some pack animals if we intend to loot so I'd suggest not eating the beasts of burden." Velina mounted her horse, "Since it is less work to ride back the way we came than to move or bury the bodies I'll be setting my tent away from here. Plus it is safer to go back over the path we have already trod than to move ahead or stay here where we have already been spotted."

Subject: Hmmm

"And just who would you nominate as leader?" Velina almost laughed as she thought about any of the group being succcesful at turning this disparate group of individuals into a goal oriented team.

Subject: leader

Of course we could just elect someone to be leader and hope that if we survive the lords of waterdeep will grant the manor and lands to the new heir. However it would really be terrible if we cleared the place out and then the lords deceide that we didn't fulfil the conditions of the will." Velina looked at the assembled loot. "Any one want those crossbow bolts? I took the liberty of claiming a crossbow from the dead cleric so I can help in the ranged fight." She then pulled out her potions and compared them and the ones on the pile to the healing potions she had bought to see if they matched.

Velina is not interested in the gold for now; first we need to figure out if we continue on or return. Gold is useless and heavy if we continue.

Topic: Inheritance -- Epilogue
Subject: clarification

For this encounter, Velina is not really making an attempt to "conceal" her selection of items. Pretty hard to conceal a crossbow anyway. She simply searches, takes what she finds interesting and brings the rest to the others for them to see if they want something.

Subject: Rest first

"I agree that a meal and some rest might be nice. Seems I always think better on a full stomach. The cleric had a few days of rations on him we can share." Velina finished with the cleric and moved on to another body if there is one; if not she set about gathering wood for a fire.

Subject: loot

I figure whoever checks a body gets first choice on items on that body. The rest is gathered for party inspection and whoever wants something gets it. If we can't use it we leave.

So far we haven't really been much on group effort so why would body searches be differant.

Now if we get together and make a differant decision that is fine by me.

Topic: Inheritance -- the game
Subject: Interesting

"Well that certainly opens up a dilema. The will said the heir had to agree to the task. Since none of us were the heir at the time we left we could not specifically fulfil that stipulation. I know that I for one simply volunteered to assist the heir. With the heir gone I am no longer bound. Technically I have no reson to listen to anyone now, nor does anyone else. Without a specified heir there is no one for the rest of us to follow." Velina scratched her head. "Do we continue on knowing that it is possible to complete the task only to be told we did not meet the conditions of the will or turn back to find out who will be named the new heir and waste a few days."

Velina finished searching the body and looked around to see what the others were up to. That is when she noticed the appointed heir was missing. "Hey were did the heir go?" She hoped nothing bad had happened.

Topic: Inheritance -- Epilogue
Subject: well

I already posted Velina checking the cleric's body, pretty complete search.

Divy up any useful loot now so it can be used. Not worried about a few coins or such if we stand to gain an entire keep.

My vote is leave the bodies as a warning not to mess with us.

Rememeber that all the characters are young and inexperienced; most would not have the foresight to take captives and such but simply be focused on staying alive.

What exactly is the deal with the heir?

Topic: Inheritance -- the game
Subject: Curious

Velina heard the conversations going on. "Out of curiosity Ether, how does the heir's abandonment of the quest make you judge and jury? Keep in mind that I volunteered to follow the heir, never said anything about following you." Velina went back to her searching of the body.

It seemed things were going to get interesting rather soon.
