Subject: Get enough

"How long will we be gone, prob around 25 dyas as that is what is left on the will's timeline. If we aren't done by then we fail and there is no sense continuing to fight. We might get done sooner but better to have and not need than need and not have."

"Thanks Maranda, if you find yourself needing anything on the trip let me know." Velina takes the two bags and turns to teh barbarian, "Well, get one for yourself; they are full of shiny things we trade with." This comment is accompanied with a playful elbow nudge in the side.

'I think I am gonna like this big guy.' Velina thinks to herself.

"So you are gonna follow me huh? Well that is just fine, haven't played follow the leader for a few years but I think I remember how. Just hope I don't have to use the chamber pot or things could get 'interesting'." Velina looked to the heir. "Unless you have any objections the two of us are going to check out the stores the magistrate suggested and get ready for a move in the morning. Figure that is what I would do so likely you will do the same."

After a pause for an answer, Velin set out with the barbarian in tow. "Try to keep up big fella."

"Perhas we would be well served to acquire provisions before we begin our juant?" Velina then looked at the barbarian, "Food first, smash second." The glint in her eye showed her playful intent. "No good rushing off into who knows what until we get things we need. Food, water, ropes, torches or lamps; the kind of stuff adventurers are always carrying." Turning to the heir she added, "You might want to consider either giving some orders or appointing someone to do it for you. We, or should I say you, are on a limited time schedule and time is fleeting." With another smile at the barbarian she added, "Go soon."

Subject: that the best you can do?

"So you guess we are all going?" Velina shook her head. "That is the best you can come up with as the supposed leader of this little expedition?

It seemed those who were most eager to go were those who planned and thought the least. She was not sure that this undertaking was a good idea but she really didn't want to go back to her "training" and this would give her an excuse to try her skills for real instead of in an acedemic setting.

"I volunteer." she said to the heir.

"I suppose we avenge when the hier says we avenge." This group was nothing if not impetuous. That was not to imply that was a good thing but then again it might not be the worst thing either.

"Excuse me? I know you didn't call me an old dwarven maid. In case you haven't noticed the magistrate already left the room so he certainly has finished his piece." Vilina shook her head, "Well against my better judgement I suppose I can tag along on this trip as I have nothing better to do."

Subject: You are not the heir

"Perhaps a few heads on poles may serve to some as proof but the will said we had to 'rid the keep' of monsters not just kill a few. As for loot, I doubt the heir will look kindly on us stealing the very stuff they intend to inherit. Which of course brings us to teh last point, you are not the heir. The heir has already been established and to no surprise to me it is the human over there."

Subject: Not exactly

"Well, just being alive doesn't in any way prove we have completed the requirements of the document. I am sure you are well aware that humans are sticklers for exactness when it comes to legal issues. As for being paid, I am not sure where you got that idea. There has been no mention of any such thing so far; in fact I believe the whole idea of 'volunteers' is that they are not compensated."

Velina looked the stranger over and shrugged. In many ways he was no less out of place than most of the gathered group.

Topic: Inheritance -- the game
Subject: A most peculiar document

In the days leading up to the reading of the will, Velina spent her time watching people. It had been a long time since she was in the company of so many humans. Years ago she was sent to live with the elves and she hadn't seen a human in almost 10 years. Many eyes fell upon her; some friendly, others not. Such is the way it always is for a half-breed. Never really at home with those of either of her mixed background, she was never completely out of place either.

At the reading there had been an odd mix of folks considering they were all related to a recently dead fellow. As luck would have it the only human in the group was named the true heir. From what she had learned from the elves that was exactly what she expected. Everything would pass from human to human. Then her ears perked a bit when the executor mentioned that should the first heir be unable to stake a claim due to death it would pass to the next. Since the only way to make the claim was to evict some rather unsavory house guests from the deceased's manor she figured there was a good possibility of that very situation coming to pass. No one really mentioned exactly what the lineage of succession was but that was of little matter at the moment as the designated heir still lived. When the others spoke up about going, she figured she might as well go along.

Then she heard the human call out two names; one of which was another in the party and it took her a moment to figure out the other. "Velinda?" Then it hit her, he meant her. "That would be Velinda. And don't be trying to be all lordly and start throwing orders around. I'll join you outside when I am done in here." Her tone was not quite polite but a bit less than insulting, annoyed would perhaps be the best description. There was something about the manner with which the human carried himself that caused her pause for a moment. She wasn't sure if he was confident or arogent. One was a good thing and an admirable trait but the other led to trouble; and trouble led to adventure. Where there was adventure; there one could always find Velina.

Turning to the executor she asked a question or so. "Is there a map perhaps to the manor mentioned? Where can we purchase supplies? What exactly will serve as proof that the terms of the will have been fulfilled? She waited for answers and only when she received them did she prepare to exit the room.

Checking once more to make sure he twin daggers were concealed properly under her robe she set off following the human. It seemed introductions of any kind other than those given by the executor as he named each of them would have to wait. Humans as a race were always in a rush and often acted and then planned. It seemed the heir apparent and his big axe were traveling down that very path.

Only human is the heir, hmm. Could this part of the world be human centric?

You know the more rolls you use and the more you rely on averages the less random the effect is right? Averages are designed specifially to remove the random points and produce a more, well "average" result. Your chart even shows that the "average" for the players was 50(plus or minus 15) that makes a narrow range (I think all of us were in the range) and it is even narrower for the target roll. For max randomness it would be one roll for each player and one roll for the target number. No complants, just FYI.

Can't wait for the first post.

Billy sets Thor on the ground; "Sorry my friend but I couldn't let you stay. We have already lost contact with two of our group and we can't afford any more. Divide and conquer is an ancient strategy for defeating an enemy and we are doing just that to ourselves and helping those who stand against us." Looking at the large gap, Billy realized the only way to go from her was forward which was fine with him for that is where the battle would be joined.

Billy nods in agreement at Thor's words then turns to leave. As soon as Thor turns to stringing his crossbow, Billy attempts to grab him in a big bear hug, lifting his well off his feet.

If successful: "Sorry Thor, but we all have to go now." he yells in his ear and begins to run after Alea with the dwarf still cluthched tight in his arms.

Billy wanted nothing more than to get another chance to fight and had his sword half drawn when the very earth beneath him shook. 'Those things must be strong indeed.' he thought as he saw the dwarves struggle for balance. They had waved in indication that the party should continue on and it looked like they intended to buy some time. Billy didn't expect it would be much. "Thor, we have to go. The real battel is still ahead."

Billy saw the enemies the dwarf pointed out and began to pull the rope and retrieve his friend. It seemed no heavier than before so he was sad that the search and rescue was likely a failure.

The first Oathfoot dwarf was so named because he swore an oath, tatooed it on the bottom of his foot and vowed to uphold the oath until the oath wore off. All oathfoots since then have done the same.

Billy stops his attack when he feels Thors hand on his arm. He wanted to follow those that ran but knew that the dwarf was right. Turning around he made his way back to the others.

Right away Billy noticed Riddle was hurt badly. Some of the others were tending to him and Billy hoped he would be OK. It took a moment more for him to notice Siliwen was missing. Thru much shouting into each others ears to be heard over the rush of water, Billy learned that Siliwen and the Shelnak leader had both fallen over the cliff. "We have to find her" Billy said as he too unpacked his rope. "I will anchor the end."

Hermes: The messenger of the gods was also the god of travelors and liars. He was a very popular guy-a real charmer- and there were staues of him all around Athens. He wasn't quite as popular with his older brother Apollo whose cow's he stole. But he got his forgiveness by inventing the lyre for him. He was an amazing storyteller, and any words from his mouth were honeyed. He could convince the clothes off your back.

"even these strange magic users have no honor and flee from a fight." Billy thought as he watched the wounded leader disappear. Where he went made no differance as there was another to take his place. What did matter is that suddenly Billy's companions were able to attack as well. With his back towards the party and teh sound of water drowning out all other noises, Billy was unaware of anythign behind him. For now he focused on the task at hand and pressed his attack; attempting to break the wedge.
