Subject: Onward

"Hey, I am a human. A big one yes but a human none the less." Billy laughed as he said the last. "We do need supplies before we head out. You want most of us to wait here while others go into the local town? Or should we get going and stop at the first town we see?" Billy eyed the pouch with the healing salves. "Perhaps I could get one of those salves? I do tend to get hurt often."

Subject: My choice

Billy listened as first Siliwen and then Thor spoke of feelings of betrayal by the gods and inadequacy for the task at hand. After a few moments he spoke. "I for one do not feel betrayed but rather blessed by the gods. They have given me a chance to do great things and serve as their agent in ridding the world of a great evil. I am not counted as smart very often but one thing I do know is that the gods are smart. If they picked us for this task they must have a reason. You say we are too frail and weak to stand against this evil. Perhaps it is our smallness and frailness that will work in our favor. Who would imagine that ones such as ourselves would ever dream of standing against a powerful evil. Perhaps the evil one himself will pay us little or no mind; seeing us as no threat to him and his designs. As for the encounter with the four horse things; three of them lay dead and the fourth fled in fear while only one of our number was seriously injured and he looks to be well on his way to getting better. Not a bad show by my counting. I may no longer be on my home world but I will not flee while evil threatens those weaker than me. Tis better to die on my feet, facing my enemy than die on my stomach groveling in fear."

Billy turned to the old woman. "I will search for the object. I only ask that you provide a drawing of it and a drawing of how to destroy it. I never learned to read so the squiggles on paper do me no good. Oh, and if possible supply a few healing potions or salves; I tend to get hurt alot."

Billy listened to the others and nodded occasionally. "Seems you may have point that teaching the common folks what to do might be good, but I think teaching them to hide is better than teaching them to fight. The idea of gathering an army I like. Maybe we should travel to the lands of the Dwarves or Elves and see if there are any left."

Subject: An Army?

Billy turned to Alea. "You want to raise an Army? Exactly how would you go about such? This talk of townfolk barricading their farms and villages is utter nonsense. Have you ever seen what 4 or 5 trained, mounted warriors can do to a village? They simply slaughter anyone who stands against them. I have seen it before and wish to take no part in leading innocent people to their death. Besides there is no time to train them, no money to buy equipment for them and why would they listen to a bunch of outsiders anyway? No, our best bet is to remain a small group that is hard to track and attack only when and where we choose."

Billy paused and looked at the table. "I guess we should at least wait until he is well before we set out. While we wait we should gather supplies."

Billy opened the tin and found the same salve he was used to using. One a bit brighter might have found this strange but not Billy; he simply assumed that all healers must make the same salve. He applied a bit as he listened to the woman talk of history and the island nation upon which they currently found themselves. Much of her talk wentin one ear and out the other but when she mentioned that evil threatend the land he perked up. "So you think we are here to stop the evil. Makes sense to me." Billy got up and began to gather his things, "Well I guess we should get going then. Just point me in the right direction and I will do my best."

You could choose any of teh follwing to make an intersting cleric:
1) the "friar tuck" type merry guy who lovs to eat/drink, make jokes and hides form combat

2) the up-armored, close combat type who attacks first and heals only after battle

3) the secretive, reserved intellect type who is more at home in the research library but is forced to go on an adventure

Subject: to aid a friend

Billy watched teh old owman appear and breathed a sigh of relief; she did look much like he expected a healer would look. Her conversation also matched that of the healers he had known, humor mixed with directives. He carried Riddle into the cabin and laid him on the table as asked. When teh old woman suggested he stand by the window, Billy laughed. "I know the drill, stand out of the way and try not to break anything. Tis not my first visit to a healer."

Taking a spot at the indicated spot he watched. "Ohh, I bet that tastes nasty." he suddered as the woman poured a potion into Riddle's mouth. "I think they make it taste bad on purpose just for fun." He smiled at Thor as he said the last.

Once the healing was finished the woman asked them to sit for a spell. Billy looked at her and replied with a wink, "Well now how can I refuse a request to sit for a 'spell' from a spell weaver?" I hate to sound needy but could you perhaps take a look at my side? It still hurts a bit after our fight with the horse-things. The healer woman in teh village near ours always had a smelly slave that made it feel better. Sometimes she gave me a jar to take with me. Not sure if she was being extra nice or just wanted me and my clumsy self out of her house as long as possible."

Billy listened as his new dwarf friend spoke of healers and asked if his tribe didn't have such people. "Hmm, well I am not from a tribe per say. At least not that I know of but my village was only a day's walk from another village that had a healer. She was an old woman, well versed in plants and potions. We would visit her on occasion when we were sick or injured but would never have dreamed of calling her a witch. Such are evil folks who cast spells and hexes. Perhaps the one we seek is more of a healer; it would make sense as you say. I will go a bit further and make my final decision once we arrive at her house. If she is a healer then all is well and perhaps she can take a quick look at my side after she helps Riddle." Billy picks Riddle back up and gets ready to go.

Billy listens to the barkeep and does as he is asked. After picking up Riddle he follows along. The trip is a quick one. Soon the group arrives at a clump of trees and is told that the one who can help them is a witch. Billy gently lays Riddle on the ground at his feet. The large man appeared to be deep in thought and he occasionally scratched his head. In his mind he struggled with the choice. He just heard the barkeep name the person they sought a magic using witch. His new friend needed help or he would die. Only the witch could save him. What to do? After several moments, Billy spoke. "Tis as far as I go; my father warned me against magic and so far his advice has been good. I will not go into the house of a witch." Billy looked at the barkeep whose face seemed to show that he also had no good thoughts about the one he brought them to see. "If you wish I will wait here for your return or I can return to the inn and wait there."

"Hello. We are looking for help for our friend. He was injured by one of those horse-man things. Seems to be all stiff from poison. Ben brought us here and said maybe you could help." The rumble in Bily's stomach reminded him of another need. "Perhaps brakfast would be a good thing as well."

Billy helped place Riddle in teh wagon and then walked alongside the wagon on the trip. As they traveled, Billy asked a question of the man. "What are those horse-things? They acted like we owed them something or that they were superior to us in some way."

Subject: Visitors

Alea cast a quick spell upon Billy just as he was telling he to see to Riddle instead. He had to admit that he was glad she did as it no longer hurt to draw a breath. There was still some damage left but overall he felt much better. "Thank you Alea." he said as she hurried away. He listened as the others tended to their fallen companion. From what he gathered they found him still alive but unable to move. The poison had done its work; hopefully it was not deadly but just a paralytic. She did what she could for him and then returned to Billy and cast a second healing spell. "I believe that did the trick, I feel much better now. I seem to oft be in need of the services of such as you. I will do my best to see to it that you are always around at the end of a fight to fix me up. Just call for assistance if you need it during battle."

Once more the large fighter took up his watch. Soon Billy observed a column of dust in the distance, much smaller than the last time. 'I hope it is that cowardly leader returning.' he thought to himself. "We have visitors coming." he called out to the others. There was little to do but wait and see what approached. Soon a lone wagon came into view. The driver looked at them for a time before speaking, almost as if he wasn't exactly sure what to say. Apparently dead horse-things are not a common site judging from his reaction to seeing them. Alea inquired of the man if he knew anything of the poison. Billy simply kept one eye on the stranger and one on the horizon, who knew what else might yet appear.

OOC: I edited my post on inspecting the hoof so the wording worked with the actual findings.

Billy was just about to accept the aid offered when he noticed Riddle fall. The others were muttering something about him being like a stone. "Go see if you can help him, my wounds can wait." Billy motioned to wards Riddle. Then he knelt down to look at the spike on the dead horse-thing's leg. If his hunch was right there was poison on the spike.

Billy noticed the spike didn't look quite right, as it was hollow and dripped something. He rose and called to the others, "Careful, the spikes may be poisoned. Did Riddle perhaps get cut with one?" Having relayed the info he had, Billy took up a guard; watching for approaching danger.

Billy grimaces in pain with each breath. If he hasn't broken a rib he has certainly cracked one. He will have to bind that to ease the pain in a few minutes. He makes his way to the last, dying horse-thing. After a short pause to ask his ancestors to guide his blade, he takes a mighty swing at the dying beasts neck intent on severing its spinal cord and ending its suffering. "Twas not right that the sneaky mage hit you while blind and defenseless. You are a warrior and should have found your end in honorable combat like your companion. I hope your gods understand and allow you to sit at the table of warriors. I place a curse upon your cowardly leader in your name for leaving you as he did to spare his own life." These words were said soft and low, after the creture has died.

Once the creature expires, Billy begins to clean his sword and check its edge for knicks, using his stone to smooth any he finds. Once that task is finished he begins to bind his side.

Subject: A heavy load

Billy saw the leader rise up and mutter some unknown words. 'Bah, I knew they were weak. Resorting to magic when muscle and steel fail them.' he thought to himself. Moments later the ground beneath his feet seemed to move in a manner much like it did on occasion in his village. 'The earth gods are hungry' the shaman used to say. Usually that led to a raiding party and the eventual sacrifice of a few young women. He was fairly certain that was not the case here.

With the tremor subsided, Billy once more turned his attention to his foe. 'I will decorate my halls with your bones' it roared out as it charged. As before, the creature's speed was amazing. But this time Billy was ready and his sword made clean contact. The force of the collision between the two combatants drove the sword deep into the creatures chest and Billy to the ground. For the briefest of moments Billy panicked for there would be little he could do to defend himself while pinned to the earth. Then it dawned on him that the horse-thing was still, too still for one who still drew breath. "Decorate your halls indeed, decorating is women folk's work." he muttered to the dead beast as he attempted to push the heavy carcass off of him so he could regain his feet. Pain in various parts of his body reminded him that he too had taken damage in this fight.

OOC: If able Billy will stand and take a defensive posture. However he will not take any offensive actions as a quick glance would reveal that there are no honorable targets to engage (all are either incapacitated or locked into personal combat).

"Nice move Billy keep the ugly anvil head guessing you'll mow em down big guy."

Billy laughed inside as he heard Thor's words of encouragement. Of course I will mow him down he thought to himself. Really only 6 options in any fight; I kill my enemy and live which is good for me, We kill each other which is not so good for me, I run away which is unlikely, He runs away which cheats me of a good fight or we agree to cease hostilities honorably or he kills me and he lives in which case I won't really care as I will be dead.

"Killing him is the plan good dwarf. I hope he is agreeable to it."

Billy braced himself as the creature roared past; a silent thanks to his ancestors that the beast didn't simply run him down escaped his lips as he swung his sword. Almost in unison the two combatants landed blows upon thier enemy. Billy felt the pain as a sword cut a line across his back along with the jarring to his shoulder as his own sword found purchase in the chest of the horse-man thing. The creature continued a short distance past him before turning around. Billy took a quick glance at his back as best he could. There was no way to see the wound but the relativly small ribbon of blood running dwn his side told him that it was not too serious. As the beast turned, Billy could see that it was injured more seriously than he believed himself to be.

"Another pass or have you tasted enough of my steel?"

Billy called to the creature as he once more held his sword in a defensive posture, ready to defend against a charging attack. Though not the brightest man, Billy was experienced in combat. He knew that any attempt to charge a more agile foe, and this whatever it was certainly was agile despite its size, was a foolish act. No, he would stand his ground. Of course this time he was ready in case the thing tried to trample him.
