Finally someone realized it was time for promotion.  What took them so long to recognize your potrntial you could not fathom.  Probably faulty logic like that used by robots.  Well at least now it was tiem to enjoy some perks.  Dinner in the cafeteria started well enough, that is until some lost clone who said his name was DWEEB (the clone production section had named him correctly) tried to edge into the group.    Just because you have the tracking ability of a satelite-less GPS and have to stop and ask directions to your own butt doesn't mean you can barge in here.   Maybe you can talk to Ampee, he might be on your level but leave me alone."  I wasn't quite done describing his level of incompetence but was intereupted by a voice under the table.  Bending down, I triedto find the source of the voice.

Ghalan watched as Bloodbank walked off towards the others.  He was going to be in for an unpleasant surprise when he realized what the actual plan entailed.  With the crowd getting more agitated by the minute, Ghalan made sure to stick to the fridge where he could make a quick exit if needed.  For now he simply observed trying to get a read on the outcome.

Ghalan was not nervous for he did not get nervous but he was annoyed.  The crowd aggitaed and on teh verge of boiling over into violence and that was not good.  Violence brought security and security asked questions and made breakins very difficult.  More and more people jostled him as they pushed towards the extremisits on the platform.  "Doesn't look like we are gona find an overwatch spot with all this going on.  Better warn the others."  Aftermaking his way to the edge of the crowd he pulled his radio.  "Situation has changed.  Huge angry crowd here likely to attract security in teh next 15 minutes at most.  Either be quick or abort.  We cannot cover you."

Ghalan once more is to provide overwatch.  In the old days they called ones like him "arch-angel" as they protected others from on high.  "Come on blood-bank" lets find a nice overwatch spot."  Having another along complicated things a bit but it was the only way to keep blood-bank way from the thefts tht were going to occur to cover the incursion.  Prospects for a position were scarce but persistance usually pays of and in time Ghalan found a spot for bith of them and settled in to watch and wait.

Ghalan listened as the others talked about stealing vs not-stealing.  It was interesting where some chose to draw the line after all that had occured in the past few days.  Personnaly he didn't care if they snuck in and out, made it look like a drug-user stole stuf to sell or robbed the place blind.  However when it came to the idea of getting a ride he certainly had an opinion.  "You want me to promise to be your attack dog in return for a ride?  Not gonna happen.  I may be many things but a low-level flunky is not one of them.  I'll walk."

Ghalahn listened.  He was good at listening and at watching.  What he heard was people hopped up to do somthing but with little concrete idea of what to do.  As for watching, that showed the fatigue setting in on all of them.  "Seems like a bit of downtime might be a good idea.  We have no solid leads and lack of sleep tends to mess with decision making.  Before we go running off with no real purpose maybe we rest and then look at it again with clearer minds.  If some of yo want to stay awake and do more digging on teh net that is fine with me but we al need to stick together."

"Aye Captain.  Give me a moment to gather my notes and tide charts and I will return so we can plan."  With that the sailing master returned to his cabin to gather the necessary items.  When everything was in order he returned to the Captains quarters and knocked.

"All of those options sound appropriate but they sound like jobs for someone who blends in a bit more than I do.  Unless you want to try to scare them into talking that is.  If any of you want me to go with them I certainly won't say no , but if not I'll just watch from a distance for now."

Topic: Advice for a new RDI GM
Subject:

There are a few questions I know I am wondering about, but am open to any advice you might have.

1.  What is the best way to handle dice rolls?  I have been in games that handled this in a variety of ways.  What would you recommend?  I recommend the DM does the rolls.  Of course that is because when I DM I sometimes "fudge" the rolls.  Either to kep the party alive or to keep an encounter interesting as needed.  If you are more interested in accurate rolls regardless of the outcome use the die roller or D20 site.

2.  I've seen people having trouble posting pictures.  But I also think this got updated recently.  Is there anything I need to know about this?  Don't have much of any help on this one.

3.  How many threads can you have for one game?  Most seem to have a game thread, a Q&A thread, and frequently a recruitment thread that later goes dormant for obvious reasons.  Is it easiest to just post character sheets at the top of the Q&A thread?   You can have as many as you want but more than three gets messy.  Game thread, Q&A thread and recruitng is most common.  Character shets at top of Q&A is a good place.

4.  I've seen many GMs reserve the top 10 or so slots of the Q&A thread.  Are there specific things you do with these or are they 'just in case' slots?    They are often reserved for the above mentioned character sheets or back story.

Galahn waited.  Waiting was something he was good at as he had a great amount of practice.  Some people were horrible waiters.  The tended to fidgit or daydream and lose focus or worse draw attention to the fact that they were indeed waiting.  This was not a problem for him, he settled in and looked over his assigned coverage area.  With luck his waiting would end with him simply standing up and walking out.

"If this is like most ports the local constablary will have hot heads but short memories.  There is always something going on and todays news is forgotten as quickly as it spreads.  This is likely not the first or last time an officer of the port will have met an untimely end.  Time and distance often aids one in forgetting old, distant problems when new ones close at hand pop into play.  Perhaps now would be a good time to set sail for the Indies and search for a fat merchant ship to plunder.  The only thing guaranteed to make near any harbormaster forget past trangressions is a fat purse of gold."  Goncalvo waited for the Captain's reply.

Ghlan moved into the room after cutting teh lock.  It seemed that for some reason security was higher than expected in the building.  Moving towards the bank of windows he found his luck going from bad to worse.  The windows did not open.  There was littel time to search for another vantage point and it was unlikely that the other rooms had windows of a differant sort.  Resigning hmself to the inevitable he examined the window to determine if a torch would melt the glass.  It was worth chance.  The only other options were to smash tryto cut the window, break the window or simply watch and if needed break the window with a quick first shot.  Takeing out the torch he heated the glass until it was soft enough to give and made a small hole.

Goncalvo walked the deck of the Sun Dog.  It felt strange to be aboard a ship at anchor.  The usual pitch and yaw of the deck were held in check by the anchor that tied them to the seabed.  In a way it was like being on land.  The ship was calm, almost as if it was sleeping.  Here and there a stray deckhand set about a minot task with no more urgency than that of a starfish opening a clam.  So different from when under sail and all hands moved with purpose to ensure the shipmoved according to the Captains whim.  The Captain said where the ship said but it was Goncalvo who was in charge of how.  The crew furled or unfurled yards of canvas to allow the wind to propel them according to his sets.  Only he knew how to read the stars and use the astrolabe to determine their location.  True, he relayed that information to the Captain and made sure she impressed the crew with her ability to get them to their destinations safely but in truth he was the key to their safe journey.  Oh there were other aspects of sailing that he knew little or nothign about.  Gunnery was a loud and dirty job that he avoided.  Battle plans were not his specialty although he took cafeful note of the decisions the Captain made during a fight.  One dy he might wish to become a Captain himself.  For now he was content to be a Sailing Master.

A rumble in his stomach reminded him that he had not eaten in a bit so he made his way to the galley.  Hopefully the cook would have something other than hardtack available.
