Topic: Garayon - Reign of Darkness
Subject: For honor!

Billy closed the gap between himself and the enemy leader in a few strides. The shelnak had a look of amusement on its face as once more a warrior approached the formation, it was confident its protection would hold. Moments later than look turned to shock and a touch of fear as Billy's sword passed thru the magic barrier and opened a gash in its side.

'I always knew that those with honor would triumph over magic.' he thought to himself as he prepared yet another attack on the leader.

Subject: For honor!

Billy heard a voice in his head, not one he was used to. For a moment he wondered where it came from but then he realized it didn't really matter, many strange things had occured since he arrived on this world. What mattered was whether or not to trust it. Having seen the others attack and fail he figured he might be the party's only change. Giving a war cry that was lost in the sound of rushing water he charged the wedge. He swung his sword in a looping arch aiming for the leader, lettiing the swords momentum guide the attack and hoping that the voices spoke true. If not, he was going to be in a rather bad spot.

Billy saw the Shelnak form their wedge and was all set to charge except the dwarves in front of him didn't move forward. Instead he moved close to the wall so he wouldn't slip over the edge he closed his eyes and waited. While waiting he tried to remember what they had been told about the enemy before them. 'I think I remember that they form that wedge to channel power somehow and that the one in front is the most dangerous. If I get a chance, that is the one I will attack first.'

Subject: No rope it is

Billy placed his rope back into his pack as the only one to voice an opion raised concerns. A quick test on his footing told Billy that he should keep his sword sheathed lest he lose his footing and drop it while trying to gain his balance. He doubted any close combat would occur on such a slippery ledge. "Ready when you are."

Subject: Careful

Billy made his way across the rope bridge, something he was not keen on repeating any time soon. For a time the group moved along and soon found themselves near a waterfall. Here the path became a bit slippery and footing a bit treacherous. "Perhaps here would be another good spot to use our ropes. If we tie ourselves together and one of us slips the rest should be able to keep them from falling over the edge; or they could pull us all to our doom but I think that is less likely than the first." Billy removed his rope and waited to hear the groups thoughts.

Billy tried several times before the rope seemed to be abchored to his satisfaction. "I don't know how much it will hold but that is as good as it gets" Billy said as he tied the rope off on the near side. "I suggest our lightest try first and that we tie a second rope to them, just incase."

Billy took out a length of rope and checked to make sure the grapnel was firmly attached. He swung it in a lazy arch a few times to test the weight and then stopped and carfully coiled the rope. Placing the loose end under his foot he once more swung the grapnel in an arch; this time faster. Once, twice, three times it made a pass next to him and on the fourth pass he let it fly towards the far side of the gorge. First it rose and then at the midpoint of the gap it began to descend. If his aim was true and the timing was right it should find purchase in a clump of rock on the far side.

Subject: Sneaky mages

"You see a trap? I see nothing. Sneaky mages, leave it to them to trap the bridge." Billy looked a bit bashful for a second, "Sorry didn;t mean to insult any of our own."

Taking a moment to think of the offered plans Billy gave his opinion. "I am not a mage and know nothing of its use. If our mage believes it cannot be dispelled then I believe her. The idea of crossing on ropes has risks and if we are to go that route the first across should be someone light who can get across and make sure the rope is well secured. I would suggest a safety rope for each of us as we cross to ensure we do not fall if we lose our grip."

I sense a very expensive bow sale to our poor ranger.

"I suggest that everyone who can range the sentries dos so at once; splitting targets evenly. It would be much better to have a spell or arrow hit a corpse than to to not kill them outright. Somehow I think it would go badly for us if they get a chance to sound an alarm."

As he had no range weapons, Billy moved to the rear of the group to make room for the others.

Billy took the last of the provisions he felt necessary and then added a bit more just in case. "My father always said it is better to have and not need than need and not have."

When the group approached the tunnel and Billy realised he could see in the low light he volunteered to take the spot just behind the dwarven guide. "It is usually best to have a fighter front and rear, just in case. I can take the front if someone will take the trail."

OOC: edit to allow Riddle to take the lead spot.

IC: "Very well Riddle, take the lead. I will find a spot in the middle so I can lend aid no matter where danger comes form." Billy waited until a few had passed and then fell in line.

Billy leaned over and took the spear from Siliwen. After placing it over a nearby rock he simply stepped on the end and snapped off about a foot of shaft. Then he picked up the now shorter spear and rubbed the splintered end on the rock. After a few minutes the end was fairly smooth. "There that should work." he said as he returned it to Siliwen.

Though not the fanciest of modifications it would serve well enough.

Billy moved to teh stockpile of provisions and began to search for useable items. Of course he took several days worth of food, a length of rope and a few metal spikes. Little else sparked his interest until he found a tinderbox, some torches and a flask of oil. 'Always good to be able to see in the dark.' he thought to himself as he added these items to his pack.

Satisfied that he had what he needed he waited for the others. When he heard Thor ask about a sling for Siliwen he nodded, "That sounds like a good idea, keep her off teh ground as much as possible."

"Well Siliwen we are here; the enemy is coming and we are leaving. In my world that is called running away. You say we are really going into the heart of the enemy in order to try to win the war by avoiding the battle. For now I will trust the wisdom of the group." Billy looked just a bit dejected at the thought of missing the coming fight.

Billy listened as he ate. "What, we are not gonna stick around for the fight? I was looking forward to it." With a look similar to a young lad being told he couldn't keep the puppy that followed him home, Billy slumped a bit and went back for more of the tasty meat. "Imagine, they want to sneak away." he said to the dwarven cook. "Well, they are the brains of the operation so I guess there must be a reason."

Billy yawned, stretched and sniffed the air. "Mmmm, is that breakfast I smell?" Billy re-rolled his bedroll and then made his way to the cook. "I would love some of that." After getting his meal Billy sat and ate, waiting for the coming battle.

Billy listened half heartedly to teh banter. There were those in the group better at formalities and conversation than he was; in fact the only group member who might be worse at it was their starnge companion. When the group set out following the dwarves he saw no reason to object. Soon the conversation turned to battle looming on the horizon and his interest peaked.

"Well now; a battle against the dark one's agent suits me just fine. Of course this time I plan cause more hurting and less receiving. Wake me when it is time." With that, Billy laid out his bedroll and tried to get some much needed rest.

Billy woke to the sound of several voices. Instinctively he reached for his sword but saw that the voices belonged to dwarves who seemed to know on eof his companions. "Well if it isn't the lollipop guild" he said with a laugh.

Billy woke at the scream and had just gotten to his feet when Alea suggested Siliwen climb a tree to get off the ground. Since it was faster, Billy picked up the mage and placed her on his shoulders. "Might not be a tree but at least you are off the ground now."

Siliwen asked to sit next to Billy and he motioned for her to have a seat. He hadn't really noticed before how small in stature she was. She spoke about what happened during the last battle and how she had only meant to help. Billy nodded as she spoke. When she finished her spoke in return.

"I know you were only trying to help. Sometimes I forget that my code of honor is not shared by everyone. Expecting you to fight like I do would seem to be less than fair. We must work together I agree. I really was in bad shape back there; but the enemy leader and I had a pact. We had agreed to settle our fight with steel and muscle and though you saw me in trouble and helped in teh only way you could; it broke that pact. Somehow we need to find a way to balance my sense of honor with your abilities. If someone had told me 2 weeks ago that I would be sitting here talking with a magic user I would have told them they must have been kicked in the head by a mule. We will just have to take it slow."

Subject: things to think about

Billy listened to Riddle and it gave him a moments pause. True what was done was done and there certainly wasn't anything any of them could do about it. he had no problem with a mage traveling with them and she had proved herself useful. It was just that mages should honor the way fighters like himself did things. Tagerting groups was fine and even other mages. Heck even targeting fighters who were not engaged in single combat was acceptable. Certainly a mage was justified in fighting back if attacked. It was when two fighters meet eye to eye in a test of skill and stamina that he took exception to a mage targeting his opponent.

Perhaps later he would talk to Siliwen and come to some sort of understnding about the matter.

Billy nodded at Thor's words. "We should probably leave. I am not sure that I could take another fight like that for awhile. That fellow knew how to fight and I am still hurting pretty good." Billy looked around for his horse.

Just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that I as aplayer am in no way upset about teh game play. Only teh character is upset (and will get over it in a bit). Just wanted to clear that up.

I am playing Billy as a simple country lad who aspires to be a knight/cavalier. If anyone has seen the movie "A Knights Tale" you know exactly what I mean.

Subject: Stolen honor

Billy saw the look in his enemy's eyes and knew he wished to have Billy end his life. Drawing from a strength deep iside and fueled by a sense of honor Billy began to raise his sword when he saw two streaks of light headed towards fallen warrior. "No!!!!!!!" Billy screamed as magic energy bored into the back of the man. There was a look of betrayal in the man's eyes and he died at the hands of a mage and not in combat as a warrior should. Billy dropped his sword and fell to a knee. He glared at Siliwen, "Never do that again. If I fall in combat so be it but my honor is my life and I had promised him a warriors death; he had called off his archers when they easily could have slain me. You stole an honorable death from him and he will never sit at table with his ancestors."

The world was spinning just a bit before Billy felt a hand on his arm and a warmth wash over him. "Thank you." Billy could tell he was still hurt and nowhere near recovered but at least he no longer felt in danger of slipping into the blackness.
