Subject: Silvara

Silvara was not so sure that they had to fight this thing. It had plenty of food here and would probably be content to do finish it up before it ws ready to hunt for fresh food. The dead corpse would provide it plenty of food still.

“I say we back out of her and then lock or block the door of this place.” Offers Silvara. It has plenty of food here to keep it busy which is why I think it is not yet threatened by our presence."

code"These rats are fearsome foes when cornered and if we have no real reason to take it down I say leave it.”

Silvara waits for the Paladin to respond to her words. It was truly better not to force something into a fight when there was no need to. She didn't truly understand the all the code of conduct that Paladin's had to follow.

“We can check the body out as we leave for anything that might prove useful,” Silvara adds. Though it would be a distasteful and noisome task, to be sure., Survival was a strong drive, not only in the rat but in herself as well.

Subject: Siliwen

Siliwen was tired by the time they reached their new campsite. It thankfully had a copse of trees though they did not appear in good condition, still they offered a place where she might be able to stay off the ground. The other signs of degradation of the land itself was the bare ground without a blade of grass on it. It confirmed the growing evidence of the general miasma of the land itself the closer that got to the mountains and the territory controlled by the Dark One, as he was called.

Perhaps he could reach through the very ground itself. Siliwen shivered at bit at the though, and hoped that the scheme of rigging her a resting place off the ground was going to work.

However, first things first, Siliwen slipped off her horse and undid her pack and saddle and bridle slipping on the halter. She was worried about the fact that there was not grass for the horses to graze on. They could not keep going at the pace they were pushing them without food. She voiced her worries.

“What are we going to do to feed the horses, there is not a bit of grass around here?”

Siliwen tied up her horse after laying out her saddle blanket over her saddle to dry out and finding a branch to hang up her bridle on.

Siliwen walked over towards two trees that were close enough together that she could rig something like a hammock between them. Taking her winter blanket she knots each corner to male a tie point for her rope. She find a branch to hook her rope over then wraps it once each on the around the tree to tie it to the knots on the short end of the blanket. She does the same to the other short end as well. Hopefully by using a branch to keep the rope up it will not allow the blanket to slip down the trunk. Once she had tightened it up a bit she tentatively crawls into it to test it out. She didn’t sling it to high but it was still tricky to get into. Once she was in it wasn’t so bad. She gets out long enough to pull out her sleeping bag and lay it in her improvised hammock.

Finally Siliwen crawls up into the hammock and into her sleeping bag. She took some pride in what she had accomplished a small victory it was but better than nothing. With a deep sigh she closes her eyes, already heavy with fatigue and over due sleep, and is soon oblivious to the world about her. Her last thoughts were a prayer to Corellon for strength to see this through and a plea for protection for her and the others from this evil that seeks to stop them all.

Moraglin ws tired of the saddle by the time they stopped. Tired of riding over hill and dale. The others did not seem to mind this mode of transportation but it was something that Moraglin would just as soon not doing. As she dismounted her legs felt weak. Ugh, this would never do. No telling how much further they would have to travel like this once the reached the Barrens nor how long it would take to cross that defiled landscape.

Moraglin shook out her garments from the dust of the trail. and snapped her fingers cast clean and fresh on herself. Taking a deep sniff she was please t find she no longer smelled like her horse.

Moraglin walk over to where the other gathers after changeing her Obsidian mount back into a statue. The other cared for their horses. She was quite happy that she didn't have to so that task. She carried the pack she had taken on her mount and search around inside for what she wanted. Taking out a rolled rug she grabbed a corner and shook it out. About 3 paces wide by 4 paces long she gave and command word and it floated some and a half feet off the ground. Wiht a sigh almost a purr, she sat down on it and drew out a few pillows and her soft fluffy blanket. Her bed was made

"What's for dinner she said as she reclined back on her floating bed," Moraglin asked

This whole trip would have been unnecessary had she been able to just cast a remote Wizard's Eye on the place. She had been working on such a spell but it wasn't ready yet. Direction it to the right place presented the biggest hurdle as was the speed at which she could send it out. Right not it flew at normal speed but that was not fast enough, it had taken her hours to cover the measured distance she knew well distance to her target sites.

When Oko asked his question of Dae. Moraglin listen to the response. She too was wondering why the strange young man did not show up again. She waited until every one else had their say about how to solve the horse problemm then offered her solution..

"Do not worry, I will take care of the horse matter tonight. I will take the steed back to him. I whiz marked him when I healed him yesterday. I can teleport to where he is and drop the beast off. You day they are two of a kind, whatever that really means, I do not know him well enough nor really care enough to contemplate what you say but I could hazard a guess. Birds of a feather, and all that." Moraglin uttered dismissively.

"If you have anything you might want form that last little village we were in, just let me know. Right now I need to rest."

Dae shakes her head signifying th negative,"I am afraid that simply talking to his stallion will not make him a tractable mount. She adds with a smile. "I am no druid to sway the mind of a beast. Given time I may well be able to help him overcome his anger. I thought Septimus would join us but it seems that it is not to be."

"I do not know about Jason a t all he just seemed to disappear once we go to town. No one saw him leave but he ws nowhere I could find. I am honor bound to continue this quest.

"I should have left the horse with Septimus, they get along, birds of a feather."

Dae scoops the rest of the lamb stew up with her last piece of bread wiping her bowl mostly clean.

"That was good Zara, I must remember to thank you mother for teaching you hhow to cook so well. I can't make do and feed myself but that is about it.

"I don't know what I can do about that horse. I would not want to just turn him loose but neither do I wish to keep him in my bag forever. Anyone had any suggestions?"

Silvara turned as she felt her hair moved, not moving in any breeze, because she felt nothing but the strands of her hair as if someone had touched it. SHe did not feel threatened in any way but she did not like unknown events with unknown causes.

Silvara turned to Zora, "Did you fill anything just now?" she queries Zora. "Something seemed to move my hair but I
felt no breeze. “

"I do not want to seem fanciful but there is perhaps something in here that is not corporeal, though I felt no sense of dread or doom. The touch was very slight."

Getting back to the matters at hand Silvara comments further, "I think we need to go in there. Whatever is in there is content with what it is doing at the moment and I am not prepared to wait all day for it to come out. Time to beard the lion in its den."

Silvara laid her hand on Zora's shield as the paladin started to move forward, to get her attention. Once Zora acknowledges her, Silvara shakes her head with a negative gesture, and then points to where they were now standing. Silvara wanted her to stay right here and not move.

It was better to force the enemy to come to you in the place of your choosing than to be surprised in their chosen place. This is what she had learned in her training. This way they could protect each other if their was more than one opponent and they could make it harder for their foes to flank them.

Silvara preps the spell, blood blade, but will not cast it until she knows what they face. Her spells are few and to be used when her skill with a sword is not enough to turn the tide.

Silvara listens intently for any sound of movement, trying to pin down its origin. Her eyes scan the area for any possible sneak attacks.

"If you mean us ill, then come taste my sweet mithral sword," Silvara whispers softly. Her supple body is balanced and poised for action. Her keen sense alert for any indication of sounds, sights, senses, or smell. The later being more difficult with the rotting body in the room.

Subject: Inga

Lead flies as several rapid bursts resounds in the cavernous area. Unfortunately, not all hit the raging monstrosity that charged straight at them. Johannsen saw her hit but the monster kept coming. The raging beast closes to melee range. It terrifying sight thing to behold as the monster picks up Sergeant Lee and smashes him into the dirt floor of the cave.

Lee regains his feet, and swallowing back the nausea, draws his sword and slashes a red line across the beast's torso.

Still, it comes.

And it is roaring with anger.

The monstrosity grabs up Sergeant Lee and slams him into the ground again, twice. This time, the ranger does not get up.

Pearson's fires and every round of his burst strikes home, causing the creature to howl in agony. Johansen misses her target the thing moved so quickly and randomly, However Kane's next barrage strikes true, and several rounds strike the creature, who staggers...

Finally, hopes Johannsen, a couple more burst should do it. She risks a quick glance at Lee who is still down and not moving. At that moment the beast grabs Pearson. Shockingly, the creature picks the big ranger up over his head and slams the man into the cave wall with a sickening thud. Pearson moans, still alive but not getting up. Stunned, Johannsen misses badly. “Damn,” Inga hisses to herself.

The creature grabs at Inga with its long arms, She tries to dodge out of its reach but failed. Suddenly her world is spinning wildly. She is slammed against the ground, and is unable to regain her feet. The breath is knocked out of her lungs and when she can again draw it in again, it hurts. She hears another burst of shots but doesn’t know who fired it. Then silence.

They say some people involve in accidents with injuries move to a different place where the mind is clear and unconfused and able to function. Inga knew she was hurt but Lee and Peterson both were to and it was her job a medic to take care of them. She move slowly to her side and then to her hands and knees. Clicking on her comp she calls out. “Lt. Kenan, this is Cpl. Johannsen. Lee is down and Peterson and myself are injured but functioning, Kane was uninjured, and dealing with the Monster which is dying or dead.” Well she wasn’t down and out and she was doing her job so she was functioning.

Inga looked around to see what the situation was. Lee was still unmoving and Peterson was moving, also slowly. So Lee was her first patient. Taking a breath she got up carefully (if I can’t walk I will crawl on my hands and knees) and moved over to Sgt. Lee. He had been slammed three times. Concussion, broken bones, and internal bleeding were all probable. Bleeding is what would kill him fastest.

Removing her medical kit she takes out the things she needs to quickly examine him. Her job was to get Lee stable and so her training takes over as one by one she goes through the procedures she had been taught and trained to use in such a situation with all the speed and efficiency she could muster. Well she had never quite been trained for a monster attack but if one thought of this as a train wreak it was close enough to the reality of the injuries they had sustained. Breath, dilation of eyes and palpating for the signs of internal bleeding, pressure test against abdomen and where the spleen in located.

“I need help to get him off the floor with minimum movement.” Inga says. She really wants to get him up off this floor and out of this area since the cold would not do Lee or any of them any good and the stench still may things difficult--like taking a deep breath without gagging.

(May the dice be nice)

Subject: Silvara

The darkness grows the deeper they go, even Silvara’s enhanced vision fails her. She takes out a torch and got it lit before preceding.

The nimbus of torch light did not reach far, shadows still held sway beyond the glow of the flickering torch casting strange moving shadows. What she could make out however, was a desolate ruin of what once was probably a simple, but elegant temple or monastery. The eye, book, and candle symbols of Oghma and Deneir were faded but evident in numerous places on the walls. The entrance in which they stood is roughly twenty feet wide and sixty feet long with four wooden doors leading off from it, two on the left and two on the right. The map they had looked over showed that the right doors led down hallways to what once may have been living quarters, a handful of small rooms, and a few larger ones, most notably a mess hall, some prayer chambers and the faded map ends in a room with no finished walls and the letters “l”…”b”…””…”y” barely legible. However Silvara’s quick mind filled in the blanks,

“That could mostly likely be the library. Perhaps we can gain some information there.”

Silvara then continued to survey the rest of the area. To the left of the main chamber went passageways towards a gymnasium and training yard, and a large hall, possibly for sermons or mass. Between the two left passageways was a small connecting chamber near the end, with a symbol one could only presume meant a stairway leading down.

Still in the main chamber Silvara and Zoranna stood quietly, both thinking without speaking yet. Silvara was thinking about how to best tackle uncovering the whereabouts of the Lanthern of Truth and any other items to make this adventure worth while. She knew that there would be next to nothing for the Lantern itself and resigned herself to that fact before she agreed to come with Zara. While they were there a howling passed through the room, and a chill that swept across their frames. Perhaps it was a gust of errant wind from above…

Silvara was not sure of the origin of the chill, nor the howling, but she was not one for fanciful imaginings. It could have been just the wind through some crack that brought chill, but it could be something else. The flickering shadows, the howling and chill wind were what they were until proven differently.

“Time to move on and find this thing,” announces Silvara, in the now quiet depths of the temple. “I would like to check out the library first. There could be important information to discover in there.” Books held information and she yearned for knowledge.

Played a game on June 7th, all first level characters.

They change a lot of names of things and it was not made clear how rolls were made or not made, nor what some of the titles of things meant or entailed.

It is simpler. Simple character sheet about one page plus spell if you have them. Idiots might find it easier than thinking.

Simple saving throws you don't roll you have a number enemy beats it and your toast.

Sure you get Magic Missile worth 2d8 that can be thrown at well but oppenents get to save against it. Had first level mage with high Int. but opponents were saving like crazy She had two encounter spells and one daily spell.

At first level my Wizard elf had 22 hit ponts. Fighters only had 28-30 so she was more survivable.

It is so stupid, they changed the names of elves to Eldurian None of the other races names were changed. Tolkien does not have a copyright on that name it is a part of history of many land.

Acid Arrow keeps on given damage until Wizard fails to over come opponents save. IT was easy to fail most opponents had numbers over 12 and up to 15 and they were just goblins orcs and ogres. It was kinda of weird and lot of extra rolling, though you had a chance to have the acid still working rounds later however I never did get beyond 2 rounds. Also Acid arrow can splash of friend and or foe in adjacent squares.

Geim had been mostly silent since leaving the Castle. He had gone to the temple there but his problems wiht his weeping eyes was still unchanged. He ws disappointed that no one could seem to tell him what the problem was or how to stop it. He did not share his problems with others, it seemed they all had enough of their own. There was very little conversation amongst the party ans they rode to the base of the Chakran Mountains.

Since he was not ill exactly, and other than the bother of wiping his eyes constantly he did not change what he was capable of doing. Nothing had really changed, that is in his own estimation, but then to the others he seemed quieter and kept more to himself. Though he was always willing to lend a hand to anything that needed doing.

Dismounting there they loose the horses, though Elessarae spoke with her young stallion it seem and she said that he would take them to safety.

Geim repack his belongings into his pack as the party set out to cross the Chakran Mountains. He took strength from the mountain towering high into the sky. He felt better than he had for days, his spirits seemed to perk up. HE spokk up to the others, "They be the bones of the earth laid bare. They stand watch silently on the little living things about them that pass so quickly in time. We dwarves understand them ,they are in our blood."

While Geim's legs are short and his stride is too he was built for this scramble up a goat track. His low center of gravity made parts of the travel easier for him than for some of the taller fold. Thondrek, and Loda, also seemed to be taking it well in stride, Not that the tall folk didn't do so well, but dwarves were kin to stone and mountains.

Once they had crested the last ridge they descended quickly as was safe.

They hold up near a deep canyon and move back. Elessarae goes to look at what is below. To put it simply she said it was not good seeing so many goblins all together. Geim understood what she intimated. Goblins of different tribes had banded tog ether. That was not goo news.

Thondrek was eager to have at them. Wanting to loose a couple of fireballs on the goblins, or what they thought were goblins down in the bottom of the canyon,

Draven even added his own opinion and oddly enough Geim had to agree with him.

"Draven, laddie. you got the right idea, We need information and we can't have them knowing we are here. Elessarae. lassie, your assessment is accurate in that if they are down there in those numbers if does mean that they have put or have been force to put aside tribal feuds and their ceaseless squabbling and that can be very bad for the rest of the the other side of this mountains. Nit only Sylvari but for humans as well. We dwarves have been fighting them for centuries, filthy vermin indeed."

"Now, unless someone is providing them with provisions they may well send out a hunting party or sentries. I daresay we can locate such a group and whittle it down to one survivor."

This is the most talking Geim has done in days, but it does not last he steps back after having his say to listen to the others comments.

Inga calmly flicks off her safety, an lifts the carbine to ready position.. SHe cannot believe this is the same pace that they had been to earlier.

As Lee went in and too the right she moved up Inga got ready and planned to enter last to enter the door last. She finds a spot though she can fire from even if she doesn't make it in right away.

The stench from the room as she got to the doorway was overwhelming. She experience nausea and wanted to vomit, only now was not the time. It was time for action she fought the nausea down and the gagging reflex. At the doorway she became aware of the charging monster from somewhere, something entirely new and different than they had seen already. It did not matter that it should not, could not be here. It was time for action.

Inga was lock and loaded and fired from the edge of the doorway at the charging beast ( however many shots she can get off this round) Hoping the door jam and wall would give her some protection from it as she fired. Her brain had already analyze the situation. She could not stand up against the charge beast, nor could she go hand to claw with it. She could, however, pump it full of lead as fast as possible.

“Zoranna, If anything happens to me but not you I would ask you to make sure my letter is given over to a reputable elf so that it can make it way back to my family in Evermeet. I would want my Grandmother to know what happened. If neither of us make it, I will asked Firin to send it on.” If anything happens to you I will do my best to get the Lantern back to your temple. And carry word to them also,

Silvara is a realist. These adventures might earn you fame, fortune or glory, or death. Not that she would let that stop her. She was not fool hardy, she saw things clearly and weigh the known factors when assess a new situation. Silvara thought that together they had a chance to accomplish Zora’s quest.

Silvara nods to Firin as they complete there deal, “ It is a deal, fairly made, and you have been generous. May that help you with. “If there are items we find, not part of what we seek we may well deal with you when we return. However, I have a favor of you. I want to leave a few things with you to keep for me. If we do not return they will be yours to sell. I only ask that if both of us do not return would you make sure that this letter will be given to an elf of good reputation to return to my people in Evermeet.” If Zoranna returns alone, give it to her.”

Silvara removes her pack and removes unnecessary items that would most likely not be needed in a dungeon adventure. All her ration except for three days, a bar of soap, Taken all her armor and weapons and magic items, antitoxins candles, chalk, candles, flint and steel and tinder, silk rope and new hemp rope a fist size hunk of soap, whetstone, water skin and three days of trail rations . She leaves behind her extra clothes, rations and bedroll, bread and cheese.

“I have been thinking about that riddle.” Silvara relates to Zoranna as she repacks her backpack. “I think we need night to see if it means anything out here. It might be that the silvery light pointed down these stairways but I do not think we should waste the day away waiting to see if it does. If we decide to come out of here at night to rest, we can check then. Before she finished packing she carefully studied the map of the first floor, looking for any notes or other writing or signs on the map When she was finished she passed it to Zora to study.

"Here, Zora, you go get a good look at this before we get started."

With The new gear split up between them and all of it stowed to her liking, Silvara waits until Zora is ready and thats her sword out of the scabbard sword and holds it at resy. Her dagger was in its sheath on her right hip,, her bow and quiver of arrows over her shoulders, the vials of antitoxin in her pouch with the flint, steel and tinder close to hand. they had bought. She makes her way to the leaning stones that form a leaning arch over the steps leading down into the darkness.

Silvara had her sword in her hand as she descended the stops into the darkness just at the edge she let her eyes adjust before moving on. If it is too dark to see with her low light vision, she will pull out a torch and light it.
