Subject: Val the Hungry

Val was curious about what had been said but not enough to venture out asking question of strangers. Dinner eaten she headed for bed early to study her spell for morning. Since they were planning , it seemed on venturing out to the light house then she would most likely change a few of her spells. for the next day. But the soft light of a candle she studied her spells sitting crosslegged on what passed for a bed. A rough matress stuffed with see grasses or some other vegetation it seemed. Befir eskeeoiung iut ut though she case a cantrip of vermin off to rid the matress of any bitty bitey vermin.

Instead of using the sheet and blanket provided she foldied them all neatly and laid them on top of the matress to give it a bit more confort. She took out her own downfilled sleeping blanket and would yuse that for a cover. Sprinkle a dsmall bit of ground bay leaf about the bed would hkeep the ants away too.

When she was satisfied with her choices and spent the time necessary to prep them all she made her nightly prayers to her deity and curled up in her blanket with a knife under her pillow. Fang was a useful blade, for more than opening packages and gathering herbs.

From the distance she could hear the constant noise of the ocean it was not an unpleasant sound.

Val woke up early she had to stretch a few kink out of her body.and repacked all her things. No knowing where they would return. COmming down for breakfast she discovered there was none. Her stomach growled. She was not used to not having breakfast. "Do you have any bread? and cheese left over from last night." Val askes hopefully of the innkeeper. "Oh, and I I will purchase some of the delap jerky too if you pplease good innkeeper." she adds with a winsome smile.

After hearing about he possiblity of taking a ship out towards the light house she nods in agreement and then speasks up to make sure she is heard. I would perfer taking a ship, if we can get one.

"I knew you would say that," Brianna laughed as her blades slahes in ferosious arcs before her.

"For the Goddess," responded Brianna with feeling, not to be outdone by Hignar call to his seity.

Brianna kept both blades whirling in a intricate dance around her. They made a killing zone that anyone attacking had wiith melee weapons had to come through/. Pole arms and range weapons theough had a better chance which is why she keep moving aabout. That made it harder for those with range weapons to get a set shot. She had a small buckler ready to feign off attacks though she usually relied on her spseed and agility for that. She was not heavily armored. A mithril chain shit that fell to her mid thigh, greaves over her riding boots and vanbraces that covered her lower arms. She had on the helmet for now it was good protection.

Subject: Geim;s Input

Geim looked to the young woman, Loda. "I will be there to back you up with healing and my axe even, Lass. I will drink with you when this is done. I'll buy the first round for all of us." was Geims quick comeback

Then he considered the current problems at hand. "I'd be feeling better about this if we fought from the top down. otherwise we be the ones blocking their pathway out of this tower since I don't think them beasties would be jumping out the tower window. That'll put us right in the most dangerous place and most often giving them a advantage of coming down on top of us. Do there be any chance of getting us all to the top and working our way down."

Remember how big and difficult that badger was to imagine a bear afflicted to tthe same degree waas a daunting prospect.

"If'en there be a way to split them up-so to speak--so we could take one one one at a time would be a good strategy. Divide and conquer is what is said often. I and do think that plan might help us. Let's figure out a way we might be able to do that too. I do not know what spells you finger twitchers have ready today maybe you can let us know since you don't wear you weapons clearly visible."

"Going back to coming down this place if we left the front door open we could push them out of here and bar the door. Once outside we have more options of destroying them without having to go toe-to toe with them. You take my meaning?" Geim finishes and waits for any replys. These be stout honest people, even though they are not dwarves. He was proud to stand beside them. Only the situation was tough that was for sure. They had to find all possible advantages they could use to get them through this because the rall mission needed to be completed

Dalyndra seeing the look on Zara’s face held out a hand and stopped her as Zara started to leave quickly with the maps. It was a looks she knew well Zara was out headed somewhere else. “I will take those for now.” Dalyndra said as she tool the maps and reports form Zara’s hands “We will all go over them.” She then adds, “Don't be long”.

That she didn’t ask where the teenager was off to, was a matter of experience that Dalyndra had gain over the years since the young girl had come into the care of Salyndra’s. In vain would Dalyndra ask her why she did the things she did. Oh, Zara would always answer but her reasons and explanations did little for Dalyndra sense of what Zara should do--and most times Zara just did what she had originally planned anyway, regardless of Dalyndra’s reasoning it out with Zara. So now she did not try to stop her unless she felt Zara was in danger. She didn sense danger as she reached out to touch that vague empaty she had with Zara.

As young as Zara was she could not be dictated to. Sometimes reasoning would prevail sometimes, many time is was a waste of breath. Still Dalyndra continued her efforts to instill some reason and clear thinking in the mercurial teen.

Dalyndra follow the courier in plain drss swing her cloak about her and pulling up the hood when when she walked out into the rain. a few adjustments and she was ready for the inn. She let her senses reach out into the night, watching and listening to her surroundings. Dalyndra kept herself alert and ready. This was as strange group of as she had ever been part of and certainly a long way from a smooth working team.

"Light, may we learn to work together to fulfill this mission." I will keep an open mind and will be tolerant of others—sometimes though you know I falter. Help be not to be to ridig in my ways. I can tell now that many of this group will not respond well to punching. Some have been pushed to hard already, some have not be pushed enough and do not take kindly to it.” Dalyndra smiles since she know full well Zara did not take to being pushed anywhere or when she did not want to be.

The dark man Septimus wore his whole demeanor and bloody clothes like a shield about him to keep other away, and in her own way the Royal Ivae wore a shield of her aloof mobility that was equally impenetrable as the man’s.

She could only hope that the trip there would bring out their best and they would function better together. Right now they were widely disparate parts.
Their secrets could foul up the mission before they had really begun. “Light help them, and help me to help them.”

"Let's Charge, Highnar," into the fray AEYEEEEEE!" Brianna gives an Amazon battle cry and starts her charge every mindful of keeping pace with Highnar and their preconceived tactics that should stand them well with the greater number of Orcs and Goblins. By flanking each others they could not be flanked by the enemy.

Brianna whirls her swords ready to face to face melee. She has a score to settle with them a score that will most like continue unless there are no more Orcs to kill anywhere. Fiercely she moves with a quick run toward the Orcs that are circling around the entangle effects.

Brianna will also back up when Highnar does and move forward when he does too.

She was ready for one-on-one--or whatever came within her reach. The long swords and her long reach gave her an advantage over the goblins but her first targets are the Orcs. The bigger they were the better she liked it. Her golden eyes were savagely feral if one looked her in the eyes just now. However dangerous they might appear there look was not as important as the cool calculating mind and a highly trained fighting skills that made Brianna a fearsome foe.

Inga ate a hardy breakfast. Her plate was full of proteins and carbs long lasting food athat would keep her going but not weight her down. Her favorite snack though kippers snacks, smoked kippers spread on saltines, Not that they were serve in the mess but she did manage to pack a few cans in her own pack. (6)

As the Sgt calls the team out for inspection, she pops up with alacity and falls in

“Yes Sgt,” Corporal Johannsen reporting, Sgt.,”. she replied crisply with a smart salute.

Inga had all her gear cleaned and what needed to be polished was –not tha rangers had much on their field dress since a glittering button could reflect into enemies’ eyes. Everything was properly carried in its place and within easy to reach—be it weapon or med pack. By the book it was. Know the book, follow the book and you made fewer mistakes that way. Oh, she listened as well to the old timers and others with more experience than she had but mostly she followed proper procedure. However, she had packed a few extra items that are not exactly regulation. Four sticks of antiperspirants, silk underclothes.

Inga was quite familiar with the intense cold of Norwegian winters and skiing in cold conditions. Silk wicked away moisture from the skin and therefore one could stay warmer than if sweat is trapped next to the skin. What really worked well is using an antiperspirant on the feet and well as several other more commons areas to slow down the production of perspiration.

When he finished she did have a question to ask. “Permission to speak, Sgt.”

If given permission. “Sgt., Besides the ammo we have been issued, how much extra ammo will be dropped with us?”

Noe I am not bemoaning all my knwldge but I guess I could've done a bit more learning with my weppons. Perhaps all this is because the Ageless Craftsman wants me to have a bit less learning and a bit more fighting skills." Geim pauses, "Well, let's get on with it then. "Enough for now, Zara.”

A tall young Ivae woman who had been sitting quietly at the table absorbing all the Seldar had to say and taking notes, spoke to quell the run-on rush of words from her half sister. She stood up and address the others who had gathered here. She had all the features of a pure Ivae, delicate and finely wrought features and figure, except that she was a bit more substantial in build. Hair the color of finely spun gold streaked with purest silver floated free in a mimbus about her head. Her skin was fair though lightly kissed by sun, and her spakling cerulean blue eyes saw much though she had spoken little as of yet. She radieted goodness and light.

Dressed in elegant garments in strong jewel tones of Green and deep crimson, ornately trimmed with gold embroidered designs of stylized plants and animals on the borders, she certainly made a clear staatement of who and what she was. High boots of distinctly Ivae design and decorations, fit for riding and a long deep Enerald green cloak finished her outfit. A long bastard sword and scabbard hung off her back and a bow case and quiver was hung from her left shoulder. A symbol of gold hung around her neck, and dish of gold with four great rays of gold interspesed with four lessser rays of silver.

“I would like to introduce myself, I am Dalyndra Goldenwings, Servant of the Light, sent here to aid those going on this mission. My skills are with sword and bow, a strong arm for doing right and clerical spells. Iserve Goodness and Light. I would appreciate very much to know about the rest of you. Then I would also like to ask a few questions of our host when introductions are finished.

Dalyndra sat down and let others speak as they will. She had done her own observations while the Seldar recounted the history and the current information gathered so far. She was especially curious about the details of what the Dragon Riders had seen.

Dalyndra really wanted to question the Dragon Riders directly, though she was not sure that was not possible without delaying the beginning of this mission. If they could have been here I daresay they would have been. She had come to some conclusions about those she did not know. The big man looked the fighter. The woman she was not exactly sure but she thought she was a fighter too but with lighter weapons. As for the gnome they were tinkers and gadget makers and some of their gadgets were extremely interesting, as for the last man she thought he had the look of a mage and that would be useful because Zara’s spells were limited.. Not for the want of her enthusiasm, but more of time and experience. Actually Dalyndra hoped that this trip might settle her sister down a bit so she took things a bit more seriously. Dalyndra brought her attention back to the others as the next one spoke. She kept a hand of Zara until all the others had finished.

“Keep it simple, Zara” Dalyndra whispered in an aside to her sister. “Name and what you bring to this mission. And I will replace as much as I can of our supplies from what gold I brought with me.” Dalyndra frowned at the memory of finding the camping gear pack had fallen off somewhere on their journey here. It was not worth searching all the way back along their path it could be long gone before they every got back to wherever it had fallen off. She had all the important items, armor, weapons, bedroll, her backpack and personal items. The tent, food stuffs and camping gear had been lost though.

Geim waited outside the doors with the others. It didn't bode well at all. Quiet as a tome it was, except for the noises made by the party itself. He drew his weapon and stood ready near the doors in case anything busted out of from the tower through the doors.

"Best someone watch the windows up there," he observed. "No telling if something might come out that needs killing.

"Certainly hvey cavey business here. More things to slow us down. Seems the world in set against us getting this mission completed."

Geim mutters to himself. "Ageless Craftsman, hear my request. You know our mission is of vital importance else I would not have come on it, can you give us some help to get this mission completed sucessfully? Knowledge will be found and saved and that is all to the better. Just asking if you would, I don't doubt that you can."

A long last Geim hears and clicking of the key in the lock. The opening acting almost like a megaphone to the slight sounds of a lock openning.

"Be ready lads and lasses."

Brianna moves forwrd towards the enemy with a smile on her face. and a glim in her eyes. As she dis it seemed time time expanded for her. Her awareness of the battle around her was heightened. So focused was she, yet little escaped her sense. Brianna was able to watch much of what ws going on around and make decision to trust, slash, parry dodge or move as if her foes were moving through molasses.

Brianna ballte skills had been honed from girlhood and in hte many battles the Amazons had to fight against humaniod and moster foes.. That is the way Amazon were brougth up. By their mid teens each girl was battlehardened and ready to be warriors for her tribe. As the daughter of an Chieftaness of a large clan who was also the champion for the Amazon ueen, Brianna was trained by the very best teachers and instructors in her tribe.

Brianna was also trained in magic because her father had been a magician of great ability that her mother had shosed to sire her child in hopes of getting a mage-using daughter. That had not happened, but the spark never manifested itself at puberty. The lack of magic ability was the only hope that Brianna did not fulfill her for mother. Tall, strong of limb and wind. She was a quick learner and a quick study, Brianna was not the very fastest of her people but she was quick with great endurance. A strong mself motivation to be the best, perhaps to satisfiy her mother even if she did not have magic talent.

Brianna excelled in ther trials of womanhood. It made her mother proud of her. SHe was a savvy fighter quick and sure , with sword, bow, and javelin. Her mother's praise that day was Brianna's finest moment. Even her weapons instructor was please Brianns could tell from Justinine's weather face. Something that she rearely showed a smile had lit it that day when she congratulated Brianna on on her Warrior day--and that rarely ever happened. Justine had prphesied that she would be a great assest to her tribe and family. Only that never came true.

One night while she was patroling the horse herd to protect there horses from thief or ravages by animals of monsters. Brianna's tribe and been attacked. Thery were not agter the horse though, only she didn't find that out until later after the night patrol and secreted the herds in a safe place and Brianna returned to her Mother's encampment. It was in ruins. As she rode in she was captured and placed in a band with others thers of her tribe. She had to watch in horror as her sisters and mother were executed--In the Queen's name and for treason. . None of her tribe gave away Briann's whereabouts. Justine her latest weapons instructor had been there and stopped Brianna from revealing herself by trying to rescue her family. "You will dead too. Stay still, watch, listen, and learn. There is something wrong here They called your Mother Traitor, girl And that she never was, by the Goddess I swear. . Something is amise. If we survive, you can have you retribution when you are cool and calm and in a postition of power. This is not the time or the place."

She did keep quiet and was exiled with most of the remnants of her tribe to the Forbidden Isles. There was no returning from thare as the tales were told. Only she had vowwed to the GOddess that she would and she had kept her promise. She had kept her promise and returned with army in tow and that was a whole other story. There Brianna had learn to control her self but it had been a hard fought process. But one that was to her advantage in battle. Like now.

Rhiannon was cool, calm and in a position of power. SHe faced the Orcs and goblin taking her retribution out on them, for now.

Subject: Preparations

Inga halted and stood up straight and tall and the sergeant literally chewed out the CWO. She didn’t say a thing. It wasn’t her problem except the Sergeant dismissed them all before the Lieutenant had a chance to answer her question. She pause a second or two more but it was clearly evident that Lieutenant had something on his mind and she could just guess what that might be especially since the lieutenant told the Sergeant to “walk” with him. Well waiting here would not help her get all the things she needed to get done in a timely manner, She could ask again later.

First she set off at a brisk jog to get to the hospital. No time to waste , there would be plenty of time on the airplane flight to rest, eat and whatever else needed doing. Her long strides carried quickly to the base hospital. Once inside she set off of towards medical supplies. Inga’s short hair swung aback and forth as she jogged, and that was not all. She was no slender, willowy Nordic beauty but and more robust Brunnhilda--a Valkerie. As a child she had loved the Scandinavian tales of Gods and Goddesses, Heroes and Heroines, villians, and giants. Her middle name, Louise, meant “Battle Maiden”. Little did her parents know haw prophetically they had named her. She briskly salutes the officer in charge of supplies. “Sir, Cpl. Inga Johannsen here, she states crisply. “Do you have anything ordered for me, Sir?”

Inga expects there might have already been an order turned in for the team. The team may not have met until this morning but the higher ups did know who was chosen to go and where it was going. If for some reason it wasn’t she would have to list and have them pull everything herself. She trusted what she knew about the Army Rangers thoroughness, though she starts to prepare a list in case. To be prepared is to have the battle half fought.

After gathering needed supplies Inga heads back to the quartermaster’s at the same brisk jog to get cold weather gear, and weapons issued. That a few heads turn in her direction totally does not impinged on her as she goes though her preparations, which includes cleaning the weapons she was issued, disassembling them and then reassembling them just as the Sergeant had told the CWO she would have to do for him. She was hoping that that bit of push and pull would not interfere with the mission. They were to few in number to have unnecessary problems like that affecting the team. She well remembered her training and having to do this in the dark.

Once everything is packed to her satisfaction she heads for the Mess Hall. She checks her watch and see that she has enough time to eat before takeoff. She looks for her team as soon as she picks up her food. Always there were eggs, sometimes they were even fairly decent. Bacon was there though Inga really liked smoked herring. Pancakes or waffles, she piled up and spread with jam or whatever preserves they had. She didn’t like syrup all that much it was too running and didn’t stay on well. OJ and a big glass of milk finished her breakfast choices. Picking up her well loaded tray she makes her way into the Mess Hal proper and looks for her team.

Spotting some of the members already there she makes her was over to the table. Smoothly transferring her tray to her left hand she salutes the others gathered there already since they all outrank her, “Sir, Inga Johannsen, reporting.”

Subject: Inga

Inga had received her preliminary notification while on duty at the hospital. She read it over quickly then nooded to the messenger and put it away in her pocket. Inga spent a lot of extra time at the base hospital when not out in the field with a team of Rangers.

Inga had volunteer for the Army after mid thrid year of college on a pre-med tract.. There was a called for medically trained volunteers and she jumped in with both feet and her eyes wide open becasue she had a strong belief in her country. Her general physical condition and a black belt in Karate had served her well in basic training, She had been unfamiliar with shooting guns but she had been quite the arche4r, and so the principles of marksmanship were familiar to her and with plenty of practice she had earned a marksmanship badge or two. She had done very well in the medic program earning top honors, Her mother, Christina was a doctor and she had been in a pre-med program in college. She was as surprised as could be when she had been selected for Ranger Training, so had her parents who had hope she would have been out by now.

During basic training Inga worked hard at learning everything she was being taught. No job was to large no task was to small, She spent extra hours on her own on any of her weaknesses. Dad often told her that a chain was only as strong as the weakest link. She understood that concept and apllied it to her life in the Army and so worked hard to make her weak links stronger. Not much on the missive which she reread again, but the time and place to meet, that it was a volunteer assignment and hazardous. She had been on several Ranger teams in a variety of assignments, some hazardous, some less so, but she took them all in stride.

Before leaving the hospital she went over her medical pack to make sure everything was there and in perfect order. Seconds and minutes were precious when lived hung on quick, correct actions of the medic. Inga did not try to guess where they might be going, she considered that a waste of time. She would find out tomorrow, Once she knew where she was headed for she could fill in her pask with more specific items for the mission they would be undertaking. She would be accepting the assignment. IT was a challange and she always rose to a challenge like this.

Back in her barracks she cleaned her weapons disassembling them and checking every part out and cleaning them thoroughly and used a whetstone on the MAK knife and a wipe of oil. Once both weaons were eassemble she went out to the target range and made sure everything was in working order. Her personal choice M19 rifle and the M13 pistol. She especially liked the stopping power of the.45 caliber pistol.

Inga made sure her uniform was clean well pressed, boots polished to a high shine and everything in order before she went to bed. She was spit and polish sort of person.

Up early, well before the meeting time Inga showered wash her short blond hair and toweled it dried. It hung straight down with a quick brush. Cleaned, Pressed and dressed she headed of to HQ and Colonel Lucas’s office. Her ranger cap at a jaunty angle topped the whole outfit off. Inga took pride in her appearance; just as she took pride in her efforts to do her best. She arrived in the outer office about 10 minutes before the meeting. Inga looked around to se who esle was there. She saluted her superiors which in this case seemed to be everyone else currently in the room. It was't very many perhaps these were just the main participants. Inga strode over briskly to the staff clerk and repaorted with a smart salute. Cpl. Inga Johannsen, Sir. When finished she found a place to sit where she would watch and access the other gathered..

One more a Sargent came it soon after her. They were then called into the Colonel's office. She was the last to enter. and it seemed one of the youngest of the Rangers it looked like. Her fair Nordic looks made her often appear younger than she was. She listened carefully taking mental notes. She knew now the location and would pull what she needed for harsh Antarctic environment. But she didn’t let thinking about what she needed interfer with listening to the Colonel.

Everyone here accepted by the simple act of not leaving. That didn’t surprise her. The Colonel would have carefully selected the rangers he wanted. She was proud to be one of their number. Though she was surprised by how few the Army was sending in on the mission. Inga had never been on a Ranger team quite this small. That meant she was the only medic for these Rangers—a big responsibility but one she was up for.

There wsn’t a lot to go on, Colonel Lucas have given them what he knew—or a least what he could say, sometimes one never knew all that was known, but she thought He had been completely honest with them about what was known, and when the meeting is finished and they file out in the same order them filed in. She was the last.

Out in the outer office she address the the team leade. Saluting smartlym Inga explains. “Sir,. I need to add to my medical supplies for extreme cold conditions. Do you want to meet with us now or later?”

She was ready and all she needed was a clear field with some trees about 10 feet away. "Ho, Highnar how about we buddy up, back to back so they can't flank us as easily. Your style and mine are pretty close; we should work well together."

"Nothing yet," Brianna snawers a bit disappointed but since this things was so new to her and she had not often used it she was not sure just how it worked.. "Perhap[s I need to give it more information, or perhaps it doesn't work until something is happening."

"About how many Orcs and goblins were there--a rough guess is good enough?

I woudln't mine playing the Medic or the scientist type--even though I do like the Action PC's too I have several of those types of characters I am playing now. Once in Twilight 2000 whatever I play a scientist and medical doctoe combination I was really good in those fields.

Especially since Grugg jumped on the sniper role. just like him to go off shooting things.

"Flame. would you please go back and look for those Orcs. that would help us to be prepared. Now, let me listen to what the Helmet has to offer."

Brianna slips on the ornate helmet at her side. "Okay," she says. "Orcs in large numbers may be coming this way. to attack those they saw riding by."

She waits for any suggestions from the helmet..

Val Is not interest in the local wine or the pricer bottles hinted about in the celler. "Do you some apple cider I will be fine with that?"

Val listens to the converssation, but does not really have anything tos say while strangers are about.

"Bring one cider for the good priest as well it does well to clear the dust from one's throat. My treat," says Val to the young priest.

Subject: The Dead and the Gods.

Thesse are some of my thoughts on this topic.

I don't think you can have just one concept of the afterlife because their are so many different Dieties and they each have their own way of doing things. Gods have their own heavens, or whatever they have promised their faithful followers. The heaven/or afterlife would be in keeping with the particular deity or force believed in, such as nature, etc., alignment and sphere of influence. Faithful worshippers go to their own God's place afterlife. A good Diety may reward his followers with a pleasent agterlife while and Evil god would use souls to further his own aimsm regarless of what he had promised them.

As for reincarnation yes that is certainly possible depending on the Gdd. Gods of life and living and judgement might well send souls back to help the world, Gods of judgement might well send souls back to try again to see if they d=can get it right the second or third time.
Gods of Death problably will not beincarnate souls being rather possessive of the dead he/she has. Good Gods may well sent back heros or souls of those who will do good in the world. A god of Destruction may well render souls to nothingness since that is the goal of this diety.

But what about the unbeliever, the irreligious person who dies without a Diety or belief in a higher being? They go into a Limbo and wait their. Gods would probably sweep through on occasions and pick up the souls of those whose hearts can be directed to the worship of a particular Diety--those who had second thoughts about their irregilious state while in Limbo. Those may just take that soul to their "heaven" or hell and deal with it there or sent it back, reincarnated, so it can make a choice.

Vall follows the others to the Salty Dog's hitching posts. She dismounts gratefully, and gives her mare a scratch on the neck. Wind Dance lowers her head to get more scratched.. Val obliges her. Val slips on a soft holter and lead and takes off Wind Dancer's bridle and ties her loosely to a hitching post. Loosening the cinch of her saddle she then looks for a bucket to give her horse water before she goes into the inn. After all the mare had done most of the work carrying her. Windaer certainly deserved a cool drink of water before she sought refreshment for herself.

Once watered, Val unties her saddle bags from her saddle and takes them into the inn with her. following the others into the inn.

Val moves quietly to the table the rest headed for and set down her saddle bags. Those contained most of her things and most importantly her spell book and grimore. There were a few secret places in her horse's blanket and saddle where emerbency funds were stashed though. The smell was a little better inside the inn what with the smoke from the hearth and the smell of cooking.

She sits down easily on the hard bench provided as seating,
though even that felt good. She was not dangling her legs on her horse or seated on the ground.

When the human girl comes up Val uses her name, "Marjie where might it be possible to wash my hands and clean up a bit." She would like to have some cool spring water but is not sure if this place has any accss to spring water. HEr safest bet for drinking would be something fermented. "I would like to order an light wine, elven, if you have any, please if not a local variety will do. Val's voiceis soft but clear expressing her desires--not subserviant in any way. That would not be appropriate behavior, her grandmother had taught her that.
