Subject: CApt. Lou it is a great idea.

It is a great idea. I don't know how it can be done but I know it cam be. I also play on RPOL.net and each user has a sticky list of all the games a user is in or lurks in. When it is updated by anyone other that you, An icon icon shows up on the sticky list to show it has been. In this case it is a lightning bolt. If there are not new post in a thread then it has a simple circle.shield showing.

Perhaps there is a way just to change the color of the name of the thread on our profiles that has been updated by others until you open it and read it, then it goes back to normal.

Silvara takes out her las three platinum coins and her last gold coin. THe silver and copper she has left would be enough for a meal or two but little else and she kept that. She lays them out and then begins to pick through the items Firin had laid out.

"Potions are out of the question," Silvara tells Firin, My last funds went ot antitoxins. This is all I have that I can spare so I will pick those items I think we need the most and you keep a tally and tell me when I have reached 31 gold's worth."

Starting with the most basic of what they might need, a shovel, a pick, a hammer, Silvara asks how much and when she response she keeps choosing items until her coins no longer cover the cost. ASilvara carefully examines each of her choices and if she does not like the quality she asks if he has another of the same thing to make sure she is not getting the worst of what he has. (In order, after the former three items; torches pitons, more rope, crow bar, after that use her skill of dungeoneering to help select needed items that add up to no more than 31 gold.)

She turns to Zoranna, "That is all I have so I think we need to figure out that riddle and prepare. I have found that riddles are not always helpful and sometimes obscure rather than reveal, and if not obscure, then certainly obfuscate..

To Alea's question "

The first felt like it can right out of the ground into me, But I stood and felt it again. so I am not sure," responds Siliwen.

Billy's Move

Billy woke quickly and stood crossing over to Siliwen he grabs her like she was a small child up and swings her up off the ground onto his shoulders.

"Might not be a tree but at least you are off the ground now." Billy offers his explanation.

"Thank you, Billy. It was well thought out," comments Siliwen as she reorients herself up on Billy's shoulder and indeed it was because it felt as if something came through the ground itself to attack her. Had Billy lifted her off the ground as quickly as he did she was looking to climb a tree or mount her horse.

After a few moments Siliwen offers up her thoughts to the others., "It seems this Dark One contaminates the very ground around him. We have noticed and change in the environment as we move closer. I should perhaps thought about why it was so changed."

Siliwen tries to assess how she fells now she is off the ground. How much her feelings were left over from the vile touch and how much was the dizzying swing to Billy's shoulders.

She sat comfortably enough for now on Billy's broad shoulders. Much more comfortable than risking being on the ground. Siliwen sighs deeply.

"What we have to find is a way to prevents those attacks." she concludes.

Inga keeps watch but she is also looking for dates, notes, paper, ledgers, journals etc. with anything on them. With the room is disarray there might tbe something left behind that will give them a clue. However, her priority is to keep attentive she she will scoop upp whatever she finds quickly and keep it for perusal later.

Systematically Inga surveys the room and gathers in papers and document, notes. She stuffs them into her vest for now. She also looks for any dates posted on wall or desk. Not taking long so that she might miss something incoming. If any drawers are opened or can be easily opened Inga will check their contents as well.

This mission is turning out to the the weirdest one Inga had ever been on, it was totally surreal, blue force fields, dead Yeti, soldiers who don't seem to come from the same time or place they do. It was like some alternate reality that had shifted to their reality.

Thank you for all your efforts in typing that all up. I am sorry that I did not get back to you yesterday. I tried to get back on several times yesterday morning to tell you we had all those books already.

Joanne had read all of them. I was just pointed out that retribution was included as part of what Justice is. However unlike Hoar, who does not stay inside the law, Tyr's cleric's and paladins do.

Anyway, thank you for being so thorough. It is appreciated.

Silvara, Looks over to Zora. IF we are delving underground for this item of your we will nned a few basic things." I have some and with whatever you have we will decide what is most important for this venter.

"I would say the map could be useful, I do not know about the key but if someone brought it all this way, there must be a reason." Unless you have a shovel or pick we will need one of each. I have rope perhaps some piton or aids for climbing.

'Firin Ranklefoot, we will deal with you for what we need. Starting with the map and the key that's 35 gold, Then a shovel, hammer and ten pitons. What is the total now. also How much is a potion of fly just or a scroll whichever is cheapest.

Silvara had some skill in dungeoneeering (+6) but not a lot so she would have to rely on that and some common sense and the limits of her available money to choose what they might need. "Do you have any recommendation Firin?" Silvara asked though she wasn't sure if that might be a open door for him to try to fleece them or if he would actually be of help with information. But if she didn't ask they might not get the information. She would have to analyze his suggestions as best she could. Though she could not forget what Zora might know about dungeonering too. Sora, any suggestions

"Yes, Billy strange indeed is this whole adventure, but we have only ourselves to depend on. I daresay we will both try to balance our differences so that you can maintain your code of honor and I can do what I do to help us all survive.

After casting Detect magic and looking around. Siliwen fights to ignore the vile evilness that nauseates her. She gathers herself control and stand straighter.

"Something attacked me, a sharp pain of vile evil, It seems to emanate from the ground but when I stood it was still able to strike me yet again. Something may be close enough to directly target me but I do not now how."

Subject: Siliwen

Siliwen is glad for the early stop this night. Several of the others were still injured even though Alea had use up her healing spells for the day. She was glad for herself as well, these long hours of ridding hard and fighting left her drained. Coupled with several nights of broken sleep, she would be happy to get to sleep early tonight.

After making a cold meal and consuming it Siliwen sat cross-legged on her bedroll. Joriel’s spellbook was on her lap as she was studying it. She longed for the ability to cast some of his higher level spells. Then she could really help her friends. when she finished preparing her spells She took time watched as each of the others took care of their weapons and equipment with practice efficiency of a often repeated action.

She watched her silent dark companion as well. She wanted to reach out to him and gather him into the group. It was her nature, but she also realized that if he had wanted to he could have. However she did acknowledge his presence with a glance or nod or smile even. She thought that being here must be hard on him. Outcast from his own kind, outcast from other folk as well who did not realize he was not like his fellow Shelnak.

As she continued to watch the others’ preparations it came to her how she might get Billy to understand what she did was not so different form what he did. Siliwen rose up from her bedroll and cross over to Billy as he cleaned his sword.

“May I speak with you?” Siliwen waits for Billy’s response.

If given she sits down beside him. To another she looks like a delicate child sitting beside an adult. However that is what Siliwen wanted Billy to see.

“Billy, I know you were angered when I used my magics to strike down that man today. I am learning that you have a code of honor you follow with regards to friends and enemies.. I am sorry that I did not realized he had been vanquished before I loosed my spell, but I didn’t. I saw you badly hurt and wavering and being attacked by other. I did what I could to help you. Remember what was said when we first got here, ‘We must work together to succeed’. Alacran said it too. His group failed to work to gather and they were not able t o destroyed this thing of evil. We need to work together and that means all of us doing the best we can to stay alive. That is what I did today in my way. I did the best I could to help you survive."

Siliwen reached out her hand and puts it on Billy’s hand, for comparison. “Look at my hand. It can barely close around your sword’s handle. I doubt I have the strength to do more than raise it up and let it drop. So I will never be a fighter like you, but that does not mean I cannot fight. My weapons are my magic spells. I have worked as long and as hard on them as you have with your weapons. I am and must be as much a part of this fight as you are.

"Even though I apparently have been given the ability to destroy this object we seek, I cannot do it by myself. We need to do it together. We need to use all our talents and abilities to achieve this, to be strong, quick, clever, intelligent, wise, leaders and followers both. None of us has all those qualities or skills but together we do."

“I saw you attacked and injured and I did what I could to make sure you survived.. I offer no apologies for my actions today. I would do it again if I saw you in danger. However I will try not to kill any opponent you have vanquished if I know that they have been subdued.

“Please, let me do my part.”

(Response from Billy or anyone else)

Later after sunset.

After the sun went down Siliwen was still seated cross-legged quiet meditation resting while awake, her spell book still on her lap. Her had quieted her mind and focused inward. In this state her minded clear of mundane matters gained her insights and possible solutions, even though she was not actively thinking of them.

Siliwen suddenly she feels a sharp pain stab up through her from the ground. It pain causes her to leap up, and cry out in pain. She looks doen for th source of the pain but see nothing. She checks her body for signs of injury but finds nothing,. Thinking on it, she realizes it wasn’t so much a pain, as a violent sense of wrong, a feeling of intense evil that stabbed up from the ground and into her.

Around her as the others begin to react to her cry she feels another ‘stab’ of evil, so intense it makes her recoil again, nearly falling as she tries to get away from it. The evil is so potent that is almost makes her sick; it is as if she can feel it inside her gut and she can almost taste the bile in her throat at the sheer vileness of the touch.

It is an attack but she is not sure how it is being done. She looks around to see if there is something in the area. Casting detect magic

In the Forgotten Realms Campaign book starting on page 253 it does list one of Tyr's Domains as Retribution. In some form it is a part of justice by definition. You are right though that taking of a life without just cause would not be justice. However it does also say that Tyr's priest and paladins frequently take on the role of judge, jury and executioners in lawless areas.

Silvara drops the point of her sword as THE halfling begins his story. Silvara listens to not ony what he said but also to what was unspoken. When he finishes it she pauses before sheathed her sword and lifts the tip in a formal salute to the halfling and then smoothly slips it into her scabbard without a glance.

However truthful he was or is it is what is not said that makes a thing good or ill. Merchants do things for themselves. Silvara is wary of the offer. Things have costs, some costs can be borne, some cannot be still other should not be, apparently as Firin had found out.

"Since I do not know what is needed to find what Zoranna has come to find for her church, I cannot say what it is I might need."

"I have several questions though. What brought you here at this time, to this place. I find that very interesting coincidence,” her tone made it clear that she did not think it was coincidence. Secondly, why do you offer things to us? What is in it for you to offer these things to us? Certainly you can better sell your wares in a big market place where there are plenty of those with big purses. Mine is slender at best. A daresay Zora’s is even thinner as is her wont. (custom, habit)

A thought suddenly crossed her mind. "Now if you seek the favor of a God to help you in your tribulations then I can understand that what you do to help Zoranna could well help you also.

Silvara could understand why he might have come all this way to be of service to those who went to look for the Lantern of Truth,. It made a lot of sense--though it did not make it the real truth in this matter

Brinna turns to Xuor, "I am glad you are coming with us." WE will keep searching for signs of his presence. He disrupts and creates confusion and disaster around him. He desires power and more the more power he has he uses to turn himself in something than and more on the level of a demi-god. He is the big evil behind other littler evils."

"I hope the others also decide to come along with us. We all worked well together. But if they can't, they can't." She says simply.

"I need to got out and check on the new shine here to Amaterrana. The first in this land. It has been awhile since I had a chance to be in one of her shrines."

"Amaterrana has guided my footsteps so far, whether I liked the direction she choose for me or not. I owe her my worship and a tithe. If you see Lorae or any of the others tell them I will return by lunch, though after worship you will find me outside practicing most likely until then.

Brianna rises and strides out as if everything was normal.

Outside she nods to Cerric standing on the inn porch gazing out, though at what she could not see.

"Fine day to you Master Cerric, A good day to give thanks for life and a chance to live it. I am going to the shrine of Amaterrana to give thanks." Brianna's smile is bright and genuine. There is little artifice in the young woman. You would know if she was happy or sad, angry or serene. There were no hidden emotions in her.

Brianna then sprang off the porch without recourse to using the steps and continue her stride without a misstep. Her long legs carry quickly out of the court yard of the inn into the town itself. A bright red flash joined her quickly settling on her shoulder. The diminutive dragonette called Flame.

From across the yard you could see Brianna tipped her head to listen to Flames chatter and laughed. before she turn out of the gate and disappears from sight.

Thor's move to join them finished the last of their opponents.

Billy's tirade at Siliwen was unexpected, But her facial control and emotional control could easily handle his anger as Billy rails at her for using her spells against their foe. She doesn't know what to say to him. The man was still fighting when Siliwen cast her spell. She had perceived him a threat to Billy. OF course she would fight. The problem was Billy did not see her use of magic as honorable or fair. She understood that but how would she present her side to Billy.

Siliwen wrestle with the conundrum. Billy's was a strict fighter and it was his life. She had realized early on that he had his strict code of honor that dictated what he would do and would not do. He did not see magic was she saw it nothing more than a tool as his sword was. Explaining it to him might help but it might not wither, but later she would talk to him about it at least to present her side of it.

The screams of injured horses shattered her thoughts and brought her back to the moment.

"Will someone please put those horses out of their misery." She looked around the scene at the fallen Perhaps they night have something on them that is useful,a map or something. I will help to gather the horses." Siliwen rode off she was not up to putting the horses out of their misery nor looting the bodies. She then sighs and turns her mount towards helping to gather the other horses. Even some of those of their opponents.

Once she had gathered as many as she could in she returns.

I took two spells that may be of use Sleep and Color spray. I have a few cantrips such as Flare, nad touch of fatigue that may be useful. She offers hoping they will be of some help. She had not felt that what spells she had had really helped her comrades all that much. After that I have a dagger but am not very skilled with it other than cutting my food and twine.

"I wish there was more I could do for you all. If I were a better wizard I could help you out a lot."

Valendara feels badly that her skills are not up to what is needed to hold her own in the coming battle. The pirates were not going to give up easily. They face death if returned to the port town for the murders of the Lighthouse family. However, she was the best they had right now as a wizard so she would have to do the best that she could for them.

OOC: GM I still never received my character sheet from you for Val. You made her up for me and have promised to send her to me. Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes
Subject: Silvara

Silvara rode quietly beside Zaranna, on the trip north. Zoranna was on a quest from her church, to find the Lantern of Truth. From what Zoranna had mentioned it was an item of much usefulness to a church who valued the truth. Just the sort of thing she liked to discover more about. The only thing is that she would not get to keep it once it was found. That was okay with her she didn’t have to own all she found, the important part is what she learn about these items all of it was important to her. Perhaps one day she would take some time out to learn other magics to broaden her repertoire of spells, but not now. No she had other things that keep her moving all over Faerun, searching, sometimes finding. There was a thrill to the hunt as well as the kill.

Silvara had met up and traveled with Zoraanna before she was called as a Paladin to Tyr. They had traveled together for about six months. Zora always held herself to a high standard of behavior even as just a fighter. Silvara got along well with her despite one was humand and one elf. Silvara’s own life path was that of a duskblade. Silvara had studied long and hard in to the two disciplines it left her time for little else. Zora too was a dedicated fighter and she held herself to a code that was very paladin-like. So it was not much of a surprise when Zora had been touched by her God and called to his service.

Continuing on her own path of study, practice and bettering her skills Silvara had lost touch with Zora who had gone in for Paladin training. A rigorous calling to be sure and not one she would have contemplated but....

Silvara turned to look at her companion dressed in shiny armor shield polished and bright, tabard clean and well repair—actually it was quite new she suspected. And holy symbol proudly displayed.

Silvara’s own equipment ws the best she could afford, too. She had some lucky finds but a few items to improve her gear. Though it was gifts from her grandmother that had been the greatest of what she now possessed. The fine elven mithril chain shirt would not cause her any penalties when she cast and a sword. Her father had carried it when he was younger. He had put it aside for the blade that was a treasure of her House. The sword of Light, he had carried with him when he disappeared with his wife, Silvara’s mother. All Silvara had been able to uncover years later is that they had been following up a lead on an ancient elven relic somewhere on Faerun.

What the relic was or where they had traveled she did not know. Now she was hear armed and armored and ready to carry on part of what they were doing. But that was not all. She had a need to prove herself. And child half, Moon elf and half Sun elf, had things to prove. Her chosen field of study was one that few entered that of a duskblade. She would be one of the few. Long hard hours of study and practice to hone skills and become the best one could be. Thankfully, it left little time for one to socialize or make small talk something she was not very good at. It had swept her up and along as she endeavored to master her craft. Silvara knew she was a long way from mastery but she eventually needed to go out and challenge herself. Out in the world where she could make her mark.

The journey to the shrine had been blessedly uneventful. Zoranna was following specific instructions on how to get to the place where the Lantern was supposed to be. Silvara did not think it was just sitting around waiting for them to find. She anticipated that it would have been hidden by those who had to flee. The sun shone brightly overhead on the final day of their travel, they came across the small clearing with the remnants of stone slabs sitting in the overgrown grass.

What she had not anticipated was someone was there ahead of them--a shortish figure in a too large robe, with the hood up shadowing his features. “It” was brash as anything sitting cross legged on two opposing slabs of stone waiting for them it seemed. She did not like the unusual conicidence of his appearance her in this place that Zoranna said was their destination.

Zoranna rode forward. So did Silvara but she drew her sword and prepped at spel. He hopped down from his perch and limped over towards them. Silvara dismounted and she stepped slightly to the front of her horse to give herself a clear space.

At this level she could see some of what had been hidden by the flowing robes and oversize cowl of his hood covered could be seen, and the creature, Halfling in appearance was almost completely covered in dirty bandages wrapped tightly about his features. He had an ornate gold and ruby necklace about his neck which he thumbed constantly, and shifted the weight from one foot to another repeatedly, as though he was stricken with some muscle disorder. The creature looked upon the women with beady little eyes, and seemed to read their thoughts, what’s more, he seemed to speak to their thoughts, as his voice came not from his bound lips, but resonated within their minds.

“I am not a leper, and you need not fear me, but rather, you should relish the good fortune which has found you here before me this day yes, yes! For you my beautiful ladies have the wonderful good luck to have found Firin Ranklefoot, procurer of oddities and inequities, and general merchant extraordinaire! I’d bet what’s left o’ me face that if it can be gotten, den I can get it, and if you be wanting it, then we can be making a deal yes, yes!”
Silvara would let Zoranna do the talking, Silvara would remain ready. This was Zoranna quest, but she had questions, oh, yes she did, and would wait until they were answered.

She did not like the way he fingered that gold and ruby necklace, a strange item for a male to wear. it was as if he could not leave it alone. A magic item perhaps; they took many forms. Just as the Halfling before them, he could be what he seemed or something else.

She casts detect magic on the Halfling as she draws her sword. The shiny mithral longsword slips smoothly form the well oiled scabbard. It feels comfortable in her hand as she stand there. Forewarned is forearmed. Forearmed is..... everything.

Subject: 4 ed Observations

My sister, Dragon Mistress, Dmed a 4th game yesterday at the local game store. Because she did, she was able to buy the three basic books and half off which was about 56 dollars. I bought them just to fake a look and really see what was going on. Yes, we did roped in Oko to play the game with us as well.

In the game I played and Elduron (elf) wizard. Now why in heck did they change the names of elves and nothing else. She had about 5 cantrips to use at will. Magic Missile was one spark that did 2d4 + Int. bonus dmg as one of them but it is no longer automatically hits. Opponents got to save with the will defense. Will defense on most opponents was over 13 so I had my Int bonus + d20 to try to over come them so I need a 10 or above to hit. That is something like a will save but you don't throw any dice, it is a calculated number--no ups, no extras. One cantrip was Mage hand that could move 20 pounds, Ghost sound, Light lasts 5 minutes) and a couple more "cantrips" to use at will.

Besides the at will spells I had two encounter spells and one daily spell of which my spellcaster who had 18 Int had two spells to choose from but only got one a day. Acid arrow a daily spell did 2d8 damage that opponents could save from and extra "splash damage to adjacent target friend and foe. for 1d8 + Int Bonus. For anyone hit by Acid arrow original traget or adjacent I had to keep rolling on in successive round until I failed to overcome their will or whatever defense roll it was on and then dmg. stopped.

Now she actually had decent hit points for a first level character most fighter had about 28 at first level I had 22 and an armor class (but noting was listed), again I don't know how it was figured there wasn't anything listed on the character sheet. Skills seem to be something like old first edition but all I had was a name and number some were plain number and some were + number but low everyting from+2 init to +11 History and Arcana, so I can't tell you anymore than that yet.

Character sheet wss simple one sided sheet spells or special abilities were on back. No place for money, experience and only simple listing of names of equipment, no encumbrances that I found. I had one feat which was strang, It listed as stealth training. GO figure that one out.

Clerics do not have Turn undead as a special ability thought they have a encounter spell that affects one undead if I remember correctly--which means they can only use it once a battle. I did not get a good sense of what all the cleric had he mostly fought. Though one spell put a mark on a foe and another player who went to hit it got a + to hit. There was not bless for hte whole group. just for one player to hit that creature he marked.

Dwarf fighter's great ax did 1d12 damage +5 (his Str. Bonus was 4) so I don't know where the other point came form. you can crit on 12 and he had a High crit that added a extra d12 on top of normal double damage for a whopping 3d12 + 10 possible of damage, No wonder hit point were so high at fist level. He could still kill most players with an average crit hit.

Every character had healing surges, that was the strangest thing. Even my mage could heal herself 6 times a day for 5 points each time. Some wimpy non-RPGer idiot sat on the design team and said, "We can't have characters killed, they won't have fun." Geesh!!

Welcome from me too as one "mature woman to another. Oko's mom, Oko being another player on this site, has started lurking too and Oko is trying to get her to try a game. you are not alone.

Tann'Talas is a really good Games Master and player. GM's are the people run a game and whose creative genius allows the rest of us to have lots of fun in whatever world they create.

I play in his game Trilogy War and with him, until school got so tough in four other games, at least. Two of those he dropped due to school pressures. He is a responsible guy and knows how to balance fun with real like.

For many of us this is a place for creative outlet. Unlike a video game you can't replay it and what happens is what happens. But we know it is fantasy and fun.

Red Dragon Inn members span the globe perhaps on every continent Though I am not sure about members in Africa or Asia. I know there are players in Canada, several countries in Europe, in Australia, and all over the USA.

Anyway I think it is supper that you are looking into what he enjoys doing so much.

Were are still here but dedicating so much time to just two players is probably not so realistic. Is it possible to run it as a regular message board game? I have really enjoyed your DMing a lot and like my character as well as does Joanne.
