Subject: Val

Val turns to Tal as they reach the top of the lighthouse. It had bothered her that Tal had ordered her out of the room while he prayed over the bodies. Not one to let problems fester she turn to Tal. \

"Tal why could I have not stayed in the room with you and prayed for them also?"

Val was hoping that Tal would not use her age and/or inexperience to exlain his actions. She didn't want that to be for those reasons. Okay she was young and inexperience but one did not gain those without facing reallyity, SHe4 looked him in the eyes because she really wanted to know. She wanted to do her part and be a contributing member of this group.

Subject: Inga

Last Watch

Inga rolled out of her warm cocoon when the Sgt work her for her watch. She had set her alarm for the time and it went off just as he motioned her up. She felt very much better this morning. and slips into the parka a she emerged from her bag keeping the warmth in as much as possible. she slipped on her outer pants still in the bag and then was up and out with gloves, ski mask (or its equivalent) and stuffed her sleeping bag back into its stuff bag ready. Inga buckled on her belt and packs and carried her rifle at the ready.

When she closes with the Sgt Kane briefly she says "Sgt. That straight period of sleep did me good. She nods in acknowledgement of what he had done. It really had helped. She felt nowhere near as affected by the extreme cold as she had before sleeping. It had taken her some time to warm up, but she had and that slept was soundly. Well, as sound as possible when one is basically started in a frozen landscape in what appears to be an abandoned base with Yeti and paranoid robot running around--well at least they had been.
The last watch was quiet and t]at the appointed hour the rest of the team began to wake from their well deserved rest. Inga hopes that it did for them what it did for her. Though she goes over and checks on the two who were wounded to see if they need any medical attention.

Carrying on the Mission

After everyone is up and breakfasted on rations, the whole team sets off together. After yesterday’s surprises it was most likely a wise move on the part of the Lt. But that was why he was in charge—to make those kinds of decisions.

Inga is one of the last of the group and it moves out of the bunk area back toward where Team A had entered. Apparently they had found something else and were now going to go back to check the area out.

The moves efficiently in the halls, the only sounds she heard were from themselves. So far they were the only living things about since one cannot count a dead Yeti and a robot amongst the living. The only really strange think happened when they got into the observatory. The blood stains of what looked like a badly injured body being dragged across the floor and then suddenly the blood trail ended. Inga was about to ask if she should take some samples of the blood for identification later when shots rang out and Sgt. Kane and the Lt. Kernan ordered them back out the doors. Inga ran out grabbing hold of the door with one hand holding it open to clear the path back outside the observatory. She takes up a ready-to-fire position to cover the retreat of those who had penetrated further in. But heed the Lt words not to fire.

Lt. Kernan called out for the shooters to put down their weapons as they were firing on friendly forces. Now, it was a mater of waiting until that was done or the Lt’s next order. As the fire teams set up in position, Inga stepped back towards the rear again, mindful of Sgt. Kane’s words to her yesterday.

Let me inform all that if Elessarae did not have a wand of healing she would be dead 3-4 times over. Since the beginning of my little side adventure I used up about half of my new Wand of Cure Light Wounds.

Thanks for the XP Almerin. I know I paid for it with my blood, sweat and tears.

When Geim has time he goes through the tower. When he spots the nest with the maggots he stops and calls out

"We need to kill all these maggots up here and check this place out for any more that might have gottten away from here. We don't need giant blood sucking insects to hatch from these things. Some one have some oil and fire we can burn this nest."

In the meanwhile Geim uses his ax to cut the things in two. He whacks, hacks, smashes, and squishes the wiggly maggots. He is taking no chances that these things may also be infected with whatever causesd these giant aborrant mutations.

The ramblings of a half mad man, but it was also more than that. Dae didn't think he had meat to say as much as he did.,though the real truth of this stroy had not been learly revealed, just bits and pieces. He had killed his brother without remorse. He had a wife and child who had been killed and blamed himself for their deaths, though he said also that it was not by his hand. Most likely what he had said was true. tTough the the sequence of events, the causes and the effects were still unknown. Dae did not delve into this now. That he had said anything was a step forward.

"I am sorry for yor losses. I cannot imagine how terrible this was for you." responds Dae to what she can say and feel. "Light, watch over their souls," she said outloud
And over this man who needs your grace, she thinks to herself.

"Let us hurry now. The shrine should not be far off." Dae urges the big red mare forward into a gallop as they move to the edge of the woods into more open ground. The long legged mare stretches herself out responding to Dae's encouragement to run.

Hello Brianna is still making her way to the ship. I am woefully unknowlefgeable about what her previous assignments might have been (I lack the background knowledge any vlunteers to help me with that or where can I research that) Where can I get some ideas about Starfleet happinging and places she may have been stationed.

I found as much as I could about the MacQueens. Their bages is a rampant wolf holding and arrow, their tartan, their NOrse origins, stc. I need to change spelling of Brianna's last name.

Now has the ship set off and can I meet you at DS9 or what?

Dae exuded calm and serenity even as they rode quickly through the foest edge towards the forest Shrine of Ehlonna. While she Worshipped the Light with all her heart and soul she held the Deities of field and forest, loyalty, good, Justice and healing in reverence. It spoke to her need to have good triumph over evil. Thes traits she tried to cultivates in herself as well.

Dae turned to Septimus as they rode, noticing that prior depravation had left him at low ebb. With his permission, Zara could do something about that. She would have to approach Septimus carefully with the idea.

Geim shakes his head in disbelief when most of the blood washes off Draven.

"Draven, my lad. I'll buy the first drinks when we find decent place if you tell the story of what happened in there. Loda, I haven't forgot my promise of a arink for you either, Lass."

Geim turns to the still wounded and uses his spells to bring them up further, since all he had done was to ensure they would stay alive and he hurried to each one in turn.

"We have to burn those beasties. If we drag them away from the tower, then we can pile on the wood. Can't have what is affecting them to affect other beasts."

Dae saw Septimus’s face as he begin to repudiate her offer of aid... Not only his words and his every movement were like he was with drawing from her. Only from this man had her offers of aid been met with such a negative reaction, and quiet honestly it hurt her to watch him do so, but she wouldn’t let it show, nor would she withdraw her hand. He was hurting, yet unwilling for her to help him.

“By the Light he was a difficult man,” Dae thought to herself. He walked in shadows and seemed happy when they swallowed him up. But she would not and could not just leave him and so her hand remained out.

Even as Septimus's words rang out she senses a slight change. His aura flickered, not dimmer, but brighter. It was only a flicker and it happened so fast that she was not sure she sensed it or just wanted to sense it. Then it happened again. She wasn’t sure who was most sastonished when he put his hand in hers. The look on his face was one she had not expected to see, vulnerability. It was so surprising to her she held his hand a moment before looking down. Summoning the divine power granted her by the Light she cast Cure Moderate wounds.

A bright light pure white, brighter than daylight surrounded Dae’s hands. As she held his hand between hers the glow surrounded his, She didn’t need to look at her hands she couldn’t That vulnerable look still was there in his eyes and she couldn’t look away, that and the fact that he had reached out to her. Dae was trying to deal with that as she healed him.

“Light, thank you for your healing grace,” she intones out loud as she collects herself. Finally releasing his hand, Dae needed to say something into the silence between them.

“As long and I am with you, if you need help, I will help you. If you need healing, I will heal you. If you want to talk, I will listen. Whatever you need, ask. Whatever I can do, I will.”

Turning back to the route Dae had chosen for the two of them. She nudged the big red mare forward. “We have the longest way to ride to get to where we are going.” Dae sets out weaving her mare through the morning traffic on the back streets then out onto the main thoroughfare. Reaching the Southern Gate she flashes a ring at the guards and rides out of the city to the woods to the south. Once into the edge of the woods, out of sight, she turns to the north and makes her way quickly through the woods setting a good pace though nothing that would overtax her mount or risk injury to the horses.

Val follows the others up into the lighthouse. As they ascend the stairs of the wooden lighthouse she over active imagination sees many possibilities concerning not only what has happened here already but also what might happen. She tries to fight against them and not let the negative thoughts overwhelm her. This sort of gritty in your face here and now is not anything she is familiar with or has any experience of.

Of course happen to the occupants her. Perhaps they were captives of the pirates anyway she hoped they were still alive. She moves after the others as they went from level to level. The odor of death increase the air as the group entered what was obviously a bedroom. Val liked the edge of her hood across her lower face. She really had wished she could cover her eyes as well. Death came to all eventually but violent death of innocents was something that she had seldom encountered. The woman’s body was huddled in the corner. Val could imagine her terror as she begged for her life to no avail. That moment when she knew death was coming Val shuddered.

Val trailed the other as they went up again this time to another room. The smell of death had not diminished. As the others entered the room Val hung back at the door fearing what would be found. The smell of death was strong in here too. When the bodies of the children were discovered and uncovered she was heart sick. There was no excuse for harming children. Her main refuse to contemplate the terror they must have experienced.

Val closed her eyes and offered a prayer for their souls. Not usually a vindictive person none-the-less, the harrow of these deaths made her asks for retribution on the souls of those who had committed these heinous acts. As the others moves up the stairs Val’s attention was drawn elsewhere.

Taking linens from the beds she began to wrap up each body into a sheet and then rolling it up in several layers in a blanket. She laid their enshrouded bodies next to each other and went down to the mother and shrouded her body as well.

Had Val gone above with the others she might have encouraged Varuna to let the man hang there until he died. Especially after he said that killing them was just business. Luckily she was spared all of that drama and a possible soul turning decision. As it was she did the best she could not knowing human burial customs—there were so many different ones. When she finishes she heads downstairs. She does not like to be in the tower the higher she went the more trapped she felt. The great wooden structure that was the lighthouse was nothing like climbing the large trees in the Sylvari forest. This placed closed one in, just like the mother and her two children had been trapped, with no way to escape.

Dae rides closer to Septimus's stallion, until she is riding uo on the left side as friends often do when riding together.

Septimus had given her an in a small one, and perhaps he would withdraw it but she hope he would be more realistic than insular. "I would have let you ride with that but you said we are friends and as your friend please let me heal your hand. She transfers her reins to her left hand and reaches out with her right to take his injured hand.

A chance but she will take it. Just as she will continue to keep reaching out for him to bring him forward into the Light. That was as much a part of who she was as all her other perhaps even one of her strongest. She would try.

Silently she calls on the Light's divine grace, that power that the Light give each of his clerics and chosen ones. It wasn't hers to hoard for some important occasion but to use as she saw fit t aid those in need, be they great or small, walking in the light or walking a narrow line bordering shadow, even shadow themselves.

She would always reach out,

as she did now to Septimus.

Not demanding but offering.

If she gives her his hand she will heal it and ride on out to the Southern gate as was planned.

Geim had stood towards the side of the group contemplating the door. He had few spells left that could be of any help to gain entrance to the tower, though he still had his ax. He offers that. "If it can be bashed down I will give it as many whacks it takes until it cracks." The runemaster said clearly. He thought that the door would not yield to just physical damage. After all it was a mages' tower and most likely protected by strong magics. But he was willing to try.

It was ominously quiet around the tower and all of them were contemplating possibilities of how to open it or probabilities of Draven still being alive.

Malius though thought of a way he could perhaps gain entrance by driving nails into the stone work and working his way up. Geim stepped over to watch his progress up. HE titled his head back and Malius worked his way higher, and higher. "Take care there laddie, make sure it is in tight before you trust you weight to it.” There you go, that’s good.” Geim continued to encourage Malius's efforts. When Malius took out his grappling hook and tries to catch it in the open window Geim calls out.

The runemaster was concerned and watched carefully for any sign Malius might be overbalanced and fall. "Be careful, laddie. Don't get overbalanced by swinging that hook too wildly. You’re up there a ways and I afraid if you fall I couldn't break it without you breaking my bones. Not as young or spry as I used to be. Take care.”

It was just about then the there was a sound of the door moving and a narrow crack appeared between the door and jam. Geim whirled with his ax brought up to ready. His first thought was that mutant bear was breaking out.

Geim crouched down into a fighting stance, ready to attack it when it came out though he took a step closer to the wall to give him some cover;

Draven stood in the doorway, or barely stood was more accurate. He was covered in blood and obviously at the very end of his strength and endurance. Geim first looked behind Draven to make sure the beastie was nowhere nearby.

Not seeing the other creature Geim dropped his ax into its belt loop even as he hurries forward. Fitting himself under Draven's arm, he takes some of Draven's weight on himself to give the lad some support Geim observes "Ah, laddie, if you've won, it has been a close cal and I don't know how you did it. I surely don't. I'll just help you to sit yourself down right now. I will give you all the healing I have left."

Somebody give me a hand and someone tell Malius Draven is out here now. Aye laddie, I daresay it is a story to be sung of by bards over a good flagon of the best ale in town but just rest for now a let me work."

Geim quickly takes stock of what spells he has left and if he needs to her will converts any unused ones into healing spells. Then he gives Draven a Cure Light just to stop further bleeding. Taking out his healer's kit he cleans and dresses Draven's wounds. Checking the lad out from stem to stern, he uses his spells until Draven is healed or he had run out.

"It was a close run thing out here even with all of us basking on the beastie. I can't image you still being alive after facing the critter by yourself. We were sure that we would get in the tower and find....well never mind. You are alive and I am going to do my best to make sure you stay alive."

Geim does use all his skills and abilities as well to patch up Draven. Muttering to him as he treats each wound. Worried to about infection or if Draven was contaminated by what had changed this bear into this oversized mutant horror.

Yes, Siliwen is assuming the sun rises in the East and so her observation and thoughts would use that as a constant. while she might know about the talk about other places she would assume that things such and the rotation of the sun would remain the same. TO the left of East lies North. That is how here world works and how she would expect other world's to work.

Back post--before creatures appear.

Siliwen stood quietly gazing over the unfamiliar terrain. OCeans she had seen bu tnever in her life such and expanse of grasslands. "So very few trees" she thought to herself. It was so strange to her. She looks around at the group as the sun rises higher in the sky, still wondering why she was chosen and also feeling not up to whatever it was this entity wanted of them.

She did not doubt they could learn to work with each other. She had noticed no signs of unreasonable behavior. Sure there was mistrust, and certainly uncertainty she thought, with a wry grin and the semantics of her thoughts.

She looked back at the faint trail in the sea of grass below then. A trail had a beginning and an end so it wouldn't really matter which wasy they took since at the end was somewhere. Without any other clue they would just have to choose a direction and stick with it.

There obviously no reason to stay in this place. Siliwen didn't think there would be any more "help" coming their direction. This was something they were going to have to work our for themselves. IF they couldn't then they would be unable to finish this unknown task they had been brought here for.

Siliwen walks back to the fire, most were congregated somewhere around it busy with various tasks.

"I have been thinking about a few things this morning. I don't believe we are going to get any more mysterious "help" than we all ready have received. Perhaps it is to test us to see if we can figure this out, learn to work together to our best advantage because without that accomplished we have been told we will fail. Perhaps other groups have been brought here before us perhaps they have failed—however, that is conjecture for now."

"This place is nowhere we were meant to stay, that I am sure of. We have only that faint trail that leads somewhere. What direction we go really make no difference right now. I believe we should take stock of our own skills, and supplies. Then we should ride out of here down into the grasslands and to that trail. Toss a coin, whatever we want to do to choose and direction and ride that way. A trail leads to somewhere and eventually we will get their. In the meantime we can work on becoming a team. Accomplishing this mech may be part of a test on whether we can achieve what this entity desires us to do.

Preparations.

Even and the cloud of dust moves towards them Siliwen moves slight to the side very unwilling to be confronted by any hostile opponents. As a protective measrue she perpares to cast Mage Armor on herself. as they ride closer and sees their unsvory appearance and hostile formation she cast the spell on herself. Even as One step forward. Next she perpares Color Spray and hold it as the riders move up the himm towards their encampment..

She holds this spell as she slowly steps to the side to try to put as many as she can into the area of the cone. Siliwen in to focued and what is happening before her and does not think how the retreat to the side maight appear to others as she does this. as Unsavory as they look It could still be a non hostile encounter, so she waits.

Actions

The one beast moves forward his words made it clear to her anhd mostlike everyone here, except Billy, that their intent was hostile. She Will hold her spell until they get witin fifteen feet of her Color Spray) Their words and display of bravado gives her a moment to get it perpare before they attack.

Siliwen responds to Riddles questions. "Scars I have no scars only wounds. I have never been in afight before yesterday. My mentor waand I were attacked by bandits. There were too many of them for the two of us. After I had exhausted my spells and ws wounded he turned me invisable and sent me off to protect me. WHen I got back he had been killed." WIliwen truens her back to the campfire. Here on my back near the niddle of my scapula she tries to point to her wound. Can you see it now?"(Note, only scars no wounds are visible.)

I do not know why my profession has anything to do with this, though I have no problem with telling you. My mentor was A Wozard young but powerful. I have been practicing magic under him for years. HE was my teacher and mentor. I am nowhere near his level but neither an I a rank beginner." This later bit was said with some pride, but that quickly melted as sssSiliwen remember that it was her actions that had precipatated the attack. For that she would never forgibe her self."

When Siliwen finds out her wounds have healed which she confirms by unbandaging the rest of them. she puts on a clean tunic and sits by the campfire to clean and repair her tunic. a few cantrips later and the tunic was like new again and she packed in away in her haversack.

Siliwen thoughts about this whole matter leave her wondering about the nature of thw one who had caused all this. Outloud she observes, "Add one more positive action by our unknown benefactor, but there is also one big black mark against him. He never asked us if we wanted to do this." and frankly Siliwen was not teribly interested is doing anything more than going home. She had quite decided that this woooooooooorld outside her elven woods was not a place to be. However what they did know of this place even for the short time whey had been there was that she ws so far from home that distance had not real meaning. SHe had known of the possibility of other worlds. THere were always learned sages that discussed the possiblitie but she was quite sure she ws on one of the possible places right now.

Current. Siliwen catches the first hint of false dawn as she studies using ca simple candle lantern for light.

Orienting herselt to the rising sun she makes a mark stick a twig up straight and when it casts a shadow on the ground she marks it by a groove in the firt. To her mind that was the Esat and 90 degrees to that mark was approximately North, depending on the season of year. So many unknowns. With the rise of the sun she puts a few more logs on the fire so the others could cook whatever they had for breakfast.

Siliwen finishing her studies adn then goes ti check on the horses. They were going to have to find water fo them. Walking about 30 feet out from the fire she checks the area surrounding their camp and any view she can get of the surrounding terrain. In the plain of grass they had seen a bit of last night she looked for a line of trees, usually a sign of a water source.

Siliwen moves towards her lack and picks it up and goes back near the fire. SHe sets down her pack and removes a few items. a small bowl, waterskin, a small cloth and a jar of salve. She sets them out carefully on a square yeard of canvas Then she pulls out a clean dark green tunic. Unfastening her belt she begins to strip off her tunic so that her wounds can be clean and dressed.

Examining her other bandaged wounds Siliwen saw not fresh signs of bleeding, they seemed to be closed now so she wouldn't remove the bandages covering them yet. She had that to be thankful for since she was now who knew where. One the force or power that had brought them all here to this place. Siliwen also quickly checks her hand. and the mark ws their right where the voice had said it was. she reached out towards the fire. The heat coming from that was real too. She fet a comforting wamth against her skin. Reaching down she added a few more branches to the fire to build it up. Siliwen looks into the heavens again just to make sure their are no constellation she knew in the skies above her. Perhaps she was just was seeing them at a different angle. She looked for the brightest of the stars, the elves called the Archer's eye, but she could not see it above her anywhere.

"I do not wee the Hunter's eye, which is the brightest star. It should be up to the north. Though, I am not sure where north is from here, without the sun as reference."

Siliwen looks around again noticing the one man in green backing away. From the group she would like to reassure him she meant him no harm but actions speak louder than words alsone so she plans to give everyone something they can do or think about. "We are here now by someone or the other's hand. We are not hurt. All our things were brought with us. Whoever told us we would have to trust each other. I know it is a little to soon for us all to do that but I suggest we do what we can, considering the situation. What we can to is gather enough firewood to last the night through and set watches. Some can rest for now while others watch and then we can switch. Though I do not know how much of the night is left. If I watch the movement of the stars for a while then I may be able get an idea of where the North or South may lie. The stars near the north and south axis move very little throughout the night. Stars in the belt region rise and set in the much the same path as the sun.

"Now, if someone has bandages and can give me a hand I would appreciate it. I can't quite reach some of the wounds I sustained. I will take the first watch who will stand with me?"

Subject: Dae

Dae deftly catches the ring, Moving her mare closer the the big bay stallion she passes Septimus the ring.

"Let us at least be honest with each other, well as least as much as you can. I, in turn will be honest with you. I do not say you have deceptive behavior but I feel you know more about it than I do at this point in time. Let's see what you can come up with as a disguise."

Dae adroitly turns her big red mare around with a slight leg pressure and a twist of spine. Well trained mount that she was she wheeled about and stood waiting for Dae's next cue. "Suprise me," she says over her shoulder then she quickly clasrifies what she means, "...with an good disguise that is."

Dae mentions nothing more about his injury but notices he is avoiding using it much. She sighs. Let it be on him for now. From what she had seen so far he was his own worse enemy, though she was also quite sure he had plenty of others and one of them had him running, not that he would ever admit he wss, but he had the look of a man on the run. He was haunted and hunted she was sure.

Dae had dressed simplly in a fine leather jerkin over and soft cream fabric shirt. Her pants are of darker green leathers fitted well to her form. Dae's boot are of soft saddle tan and a broad belt with a pouch was fastened around her waist. A cloak of green wool was fastened on the back of her saddle and a basket covered in a white napkin hung from the pommel of her saddle. She looked like she was going out for a afternoon picnic with a friend. Her hair was gathered into a hat that set at a januty angle on her head. A bow case and a quiver of arrows hung on the pommel of her saddle.
