Topic: A Cold Day in Hell
Subject: Twilight Zone Special

To Inga's eyes this seemed something straight out of that old cult classic show, Twilight Zone. A nice routine checkup trip to Antarctica turns weird. <>

As much as Inga would like a closer look, she keeps watch on her surroundings rifle at ready. Kane moved up and forward closing with the thing and the alien creature inside. For that is what it was without a doubt. Unless this was all some great trick like those old Candid Camera shows and this was all a set up. Only thing in those real robots didn't shoot to kill.

Subject: Amiri

Amiri was not sure about this woman Lyra. She certainly knew more than she was telling them. Who would offer such gratuities to unknown adventurers to get them to take this quest. This kept her skeptical of the whole affair. And she wasn’t the only one.

Khalessin asjed one more question of the young woma,. "The mountains you say? Mountains tend to be big things, is there anywhere in particular within those mountains that you might suggest we start? Or anything to look for? Something must be pointing you, and thus us, in that direction."

Lyra glanced towards Khalessinm ready to respond to his question, but was distracted by something nearby. The young woman armed herself, as cloud of dust was seen at the outskirts of town The horses and war dogs and Cath Shee responded even before the group could see anything.

It must be an illusion, there is no such thing as Hell Hounds. A voice had spoken from the shadows. Amiri heard it clearly. And then the cause of all this appeared--two giant three headed hounds. Their eyes showed nothing, no pupils or anything, just fire. When their maw parted to release a howl, again all that was seen were sharp canines, and fire. The Hell Hounds stopped when they seen Lyra armed,, the ground rumbled gently beneath their feet. Twin red peaks flat against the beasts crania as four massive paws scorched the city streets wherever the Hell Hounds where. The beast’s body was pure muscle, and their hot breath could be felt even from where she sat on her Moon Steed.

If this was an illusion it was a masterpiece and Amiri knew that illusions could kill as quickly as the real thing. Amiri lifter her hands and intoned the ancient words in the language of the arcane while the creatures were still before her and no others had moved in. (Casting Color spray at the Hell hounds)

"What did they have to say?" Val asked, eager to hear their reply. She slung her backpack up on her back and settled the straps on her shoulders.

Tianna could only fight on against the goblin that was attacking her. The ax was strange in her hand. IT was top heavy, however, the more she swung it the better it felt. Tianna was fighting for her life and the boy's who had been captured with her.

Tianna couldn't take time to cut him out. She could only keep attacking the goblin.

Whoever had cast the entangle had made it very difficult for her to save herself and the boy. She had caught sight of arrows flying from somewhere outside the entangle spells area of effect but did not know who it was out there.
Tianna heard the wolf howl and then whine, whether it was a friend or foe she had no idea.

If she was only close to her bow and arrows, but she put the though out of her mind. Now she concentrated and swinging that ax and hitting the little bugger.

Moraglin moved outdoors and took out her obsidian steed at eh command word it transformed into a huge destrier. You know I really wish you would have been a bit smaller. She mutters to the uncaring steed and she gathers the reins and mounts with a spring to her step.

Her catoid heritage was clearly revealed in the full light of day. The overall effect was of a woman of exotic looks and haughty bearing. Her sleek black hair and her golden-green eyes scanned the area before she set he steed to follow along with Dae.

Oko was waiting on a hill watching them approach as they left the town. Moraglin did not hurry any just because he was there waiting. No, she let her horse move along easily in keeping wit her dignity. HE had hurried yesterday to catch them Today she was not so pressed. No, today she would make a statement of how things would be while she was with this group.

Dae was still divided about what to do but she took a clue from Moraglin and walked to the door. Fighting an urge to say something but not knowing what to say or do she walked out the door without a backward glance.

Outside Dae mounted her steed and gathered the reins of her war horse. She turned slowly to where Zara pointed and rode off.

Dae walked her horse out of the courtyard, until he had stretched his legs and finally canter off leaving Septimus behind. She would have helped him fight his demons but he was not ready it seemed to let anyone help him.

To say Dae did not worry as her horse carried her further off would be an untruth. But she did keep focused on the main task to get to the tower in the Barren lands and find out what is going on.

val waited quietly for the two others to return. She was trying to figure out what spells she could use to benefit her companions as they fought. Color Spray at least could affect more than one and if she was lucky it would lessen the odds against the others. Magic Missile would work against only one--would it were otherwise--however with that one she would hit without fail. while she planned she knew well the the situation they found themselves in could be something entirely different. Planning was all she could do right now. She was not good at waiting around with nothing to do.

Val regretted her inability to use weapons effectively right now. Sh had only a few spells that could be useful in a fight that. She had memorized last night

Johannsen moves with Sgt. Kane, "Got your six," Sgt Kane. Everything by the book only problem was that everything was not by the book. That machine, device, with its blue glow certainly wasn't anything by any book she knew.

However her job was clear to cover Kane and to look for the light switch so this thing. She would be happier once it was turned off.

Well, Inga hoped so . No knowing what it was or what it did or what would happened if they tried to shut it off.

The condition of the room clearly revealed that various things had been tried. and without apparent success.

Inga couldn't say with what she knew that this things was the root of the problems they faced it was certainly a part of it.

Inga had her gun up and at the ready. Her eyes scanned the device for a power source. Somehow she didn't think it would be as easy as an extension cord, but she would have welcomed it.

Raiel had been quiet since asking her question. what with the others asking what they wanted to know and the Eccesiarch answered them so she had about as much, or more, than she really wanted to know. Like or or not she was bound to this quest.

"Now we have heard the story, what is it exactly you want us to do. Do we recover the artifacts so he can't use them or do we kill him so that he can't use them to break the seals. To find him or the artifacts we need information. The world is to vast to search every nook or cranny."

SHe was committed to the search so now she had to figure out how to achieve the goals of the quest. Ever practical as she was it made her good at what she did.

Subject: Geim at teh crossroads

Geim got his things ready to move on without saying much. Well that is not exactly true. HE grumble some under his breath but it was not intelligible to others.

After breakfast he growled, “Time to go everyone. We got things to do and yes I remember what they are,” Geim added unnecessarily.

While getting ready anything and everything that did not go right, Geim grumbled about it though mostly to himself. He had collected small bits of cloth stuffed in all his pockets and wherever else they would fit. Wiping his eyes constantly and figuring out what to do with the goo soaked rags seemingly frustrated the normally stable old dwarf.

Malius had left. Geim could not get that off his mind. He had driven him away now knowing why just his letter and Geim didn’t know if Malius had written the truth. After all he could have told them face to face like. You would think that after all they had been through together that the lad could have said something and not just left in the night like that.

Riding was not his thing either. ((I did not think we had horses)) Dwarves were never meant to ride it was like climbing up on a beer keg and trying to keep your balance so it wouldn’t roll you off. His legs stuck out not down. It was undignified. Geim mumbled to himself and unless anyone started a conversation or asked a question he kept focused on staying on.

When then paused at the crossroads Geim just listened to what the young elf bladesinger had to day.

“Good idea, lass. Good adventures carry their wealth on their back not their purses, If not they should retire to a chair somewhere. However back to your suggestion, it depends on the group here and what they decide to do. Okay the rest of you. Do we detour to the city or ride on to the mountains. I am for the city Who is for or against that?”

So far as a small group facing so many, they had done well. Several horse and riders were down. However, that changed when their archers started shooting. Siliwen felt an arrow strike deeply into her body. She struggled to remain upright in the saddle. Winning that small battle so stay upright in her saddle she maintain her advantage of height to see out over what is going on. In the midst of yet another violent clash with the minions of the Dark One, her heart warmed when her friends began gather to protect her.

Siliwen quickly choose Magic Missiles as her next spell. She had to do her part to help them and Magic Missiles was a good spell for ranged offense. She only wished she had a greater command of her craft so she could be more effective. Ah, if wishes were horse everyone would ride.

Subject: Loriel--between the inferno and a hard place

Loriel felt the pin a fire race through her as she grabbed the man's leg she punched him solidly in the face once twice. in a frenzy of blows until she heard Kas call out to get out of here.

Kas then came forward and cold cocked the mage with the hilt of her sword. Kas then grabbed him and headed for the window. That widow was the only way out she could see, though only barely. Loriel tried to stand and move after her, if she can't, she will crawl. However her instinct to survive was strong within her, and that gave her strength, not physical but mental. Loriel commanded her body to move and keep moving.

The best Loriel could do to survive this was get to the edge of the roof and hang over it before she dropped to the ground. She had jumped out of plenty of trees before and knew how to use her knees and ankles to absorb the force of landing. She kept those thoughts in her mind and made every effort to do exactly that.

"Corellon let me live through this, that man has question to answer." Her chest ached her, her eyes and lungs were burning with acrid smoke and heat. Her whole body feel crispy after she had grabbed the mad mage. but she made her way theough the window Artanis had gone through with the baby in her arms, through the smoke and fire to the rooftop.

Outside was not much better than inside the raging inferno behind them. Flames licked at the sides of the house and the roof. Kas was before her with the mage firmly gripped n her hands. Personally she thought Kas should just throw the man down and jump on top of him that or plunge over the edge and use him a s a cushion.

At the edge of the roof she dropped to her hands and kneww and lowered herself over the edge until she hung down as far as she could reach ((unless there is a tre of something near the house that she could climb down) Then she dropped preparing herself for the landing at which time she would flex ehr kness deeply.

Well that was her plan.

Subject: Liorel

The pain of the fire attack was excruciatingly. Loriel couldn't scream simply because she was sucking in air to scream. before she did she bit down on her lips to stifle it. It came out ad muffled scream of pain. Her vision burred and darkened. For a moment she thought she was going to fall but she didn't. Strangely she had her anger at this man to thank for it. That anger was like a cold fury at the perpetrator of this horror. The child in his arms kept her attention enough so that she did not black out. Under the circumstances ithat loss of consciousness most likely would have cost her her life. But instead her cold ferocity of her emotions kept her mind clear and focused on what was going on.

"Loriel, get behind me."

Loriel heard Kas call out. But that was not the answer to the problems they face. That man was he was one there were three. The babe had to be rescued and the man take down. That thought was simple and clear.

Loriel somehow had separated the sensations of her body from her mind for the moment. Clarity of purpose, possible strategies to attack the man, all held sway for the moment. She knew if they could take him down and break his concentration that

“Corellon guide me,” Loriel prayed.

Artanis suddenly made a move on the man and at the same instance so did Loriel. Artanis charged straight in as Loriel, whose mind was sharply aware as it ever had been in her life., launched herself forward straight at the man still holding baby . Loriel lunged for the man a fraction of a second behind Artanis’s first move for him. With the same clarity o mind she knew what she was going to do to help Artanis take the man down. Once down they could take the baby and then, If she had to beat him senseless with her hands, she would do that.

“No Kas, ATTACK, all of us.”

Loriel’s target was the man’s legs . Artanis would hit him high she would hit him low, hopefully simultaneously, or at least as close as possible as she could. Add Kas into that mix and surely they would prevail. They had to.
All of their lives literally hung in the balance on their ability to work together. If they could force him to lose concentration then the fire elementals would be freed from the summoning.

Subject: Geim

Geim too. is quiet. He finished his meal quickly and cleaned up after himself. He did not forswear drink this night but kept it to beer or ale. About the only thing you can see is that he keeps a pile of napkins and/or towels, whatever he found without much searching. During dinner he can be seen wiping his eyes regularly.

"I am going to use some of that hot water I put on, but I will leave most for the rest of you to clean up with." Geim says as he heads back into the kitchen and cleaning up his dishes he takes the hot water and pours some in a bucket and tempers it with cool water, taking that upstairs with his stack of napkins and towels He removes his armor slowly piece by piece. An old hand at this he really doesn't need help to finally finish the job.

Geim strips down and washes with soap and water. Pulling out a clean outfit he dressed in that. He scrubs his eyes with some clean warm water hoping the the red goo can be clean out of his eye for once and for all. but when he goes to wipe them the red remains. He washes the cloth and sets it out to dry. before he lays down he goes on his knees to Kharox and prays. The simple man sincerely prays to ask Kharox for his divine grace for the coming day.

"I be blowing my mouth off today, I was pretty hard on those Malius, Alyssia, and Draven. They may not have deserved all that I said so I be asking ye to help me keep my temper in check. We have many things to do and so few of us to do them. Can't be alienating the others, even if they might have deserved the truth."

Geim stopped for a moment as various thoughts played through his mind. He had again thought they all deserved his words. He had prejudged them without letting them say much. That was just not him. Now here he is trying to justify his actions to Kharox, who knows all there is to know if he wants to.

"Forgive me Kharox just must be a bit on the tired side. A good night's sleep should put me to rights. I'll apologize in the morning and hopefully they will forgive my hasty words."

Geim lays down and put his ax comfortably close to where he could grab it quick and went to asleep.

In the morning he washes his face and eyes again still running with the red goo. They didn't hurt but it was irritating to say the least. With some wriggling and twisting he got into his armor.

He would talk to all three of them and apologize for being hasty. With these good intentions he went below to get breakfast and mend bridges.

Only Malius had gone he left letters, one for the group and one for the young Bladesinger. He could hardly think of her as one of those being so young and all, but Lady Quilanday had greeted her as one, so she must be.

Geim is disheartened to hear that Malius was gone. He had driven him away regardless of what the letter had said. He clammed up and spoke not at all. Moving about with a dour look on his face.

After they have eaten, Geim states simply, "Time to be moving on. My fault he left, I shouldn't have yelled at him shouldn't have yelled at Draven, nor Alyssia either. This is not good, not good at all," he mumbles as he heads out, ax in hand.
