Subject: Loriel

The sun hadn’t yet risen when a lone figure mounted on an elven steed of dapple black rode towards to the guard station outside the walls of the city. At the horses side was a huge hybrid wolf dog. In the lark before down she looked to be s smoky black with a few scatter spots on his back. In the flickering light of the torches about the guard station the cloak figure resolved itself in more detail, A long deep green cloak covered the rider, though when closer one could see embroidery on the edges of a variety of lighter green foliage intricately intertwined. The deep hood lined in fur shaded the rider’s face. The black elven steed stopped at the guard station without a obvious signal form the rider. The big wolf dog sat when the horse stopped regarding the guards with a gimlet glare but not showing any hostility nor growling.

Loriel neared the city guards shifting her weight slightly to cue her mount to stop. Long slender hands moved out from her cloak as she dropped the hood of her head to reveal her face. was a pale oval with aquiline features that made it clearly evident that she was of pure elven blood. Her hair seemed dark, almost black but for some lighter locks scattered throughout the dark tresses.

The sergeant of the guard stepped forward, “What business do you have here? Are you coming in response to the Queen’s offer? If so, ye’d better hurry. Meeting is at the central courtyard at sunrise. Just follow that main road leads you right to the center o’the city. Here take this with you it tells you everything you need to know.” The guard handed her the flyer trying to backtrack last know whereabouts of her half brother.

Loriel had other reasons but the one the guard offered was good enough for her. “Yes, I am, Thank you.” She responded in a melodious and obviously feminine voice.

“Okay then. Open the gate, Private, and let her in.”

Loriel rode Moonshadow pacing alongside of Moira, her horse, into the city proper following the main street as the sergeant had said. While she did she perused the contents of the flyer which even in the false light of dawn she could read it well enough.

Two names catch her attention Sulduskoon River and Starspire. Her brother had mention those in one of his letters to his mother. Perhaps if she took part n this she could find someone or something to lead her on to the nest step in finding where he was.

Loriel rides on until she gets to the central courtyard. Still mounted, Loriel maneuvers Moira off to the side of the courtyard. Moonshadow moves with Moira as if she was the horses’s shadow. Loriel wanted to hear clearly what was going to be said, which was the only reason for moving forward. Her vantage point from horseback gave her a clear view from about anywhere. She pulls up her hood and waits as the light from the false dawn begins to brighten to true dawn. Finally she saw the first rays of the Sun touch the highest spires in the city and gradually move down them as the sun rose into the sky. It shouldn't be lon now.

Elessarae was also up calling for others to join her. Draven had started forward too. "I'm with you girl, lead on I am just going to check out the Innkeeper." They must have seen the flash of the green scaled creature as it streaked byas just as he had. "Damned fst flyer, that thing, be wary." He is surprised that there had not been one outcry or scream from any of the slain laying in the street.

Need DM's response as to Innkeepers condition.

Ariellyn sips her drink after dinner near the fire place, enhoying the warmth and relitive peace in the common room. When the last bit is sipped she caries the mug to the Innkeep. and passes it back to him. "My thanks for the free drink and the meal. It was most appreciated. I would like a not bath sent up to my room if you please, the hotter the water the better."

Ariellyn looks around the round and heads upstairs. Once inside the room she had been given she goes about it securing it agains unwanted intrustion. A wedge in the widows to keep them shut except for a tine crack for fresh air. and wedge at the door that she will place after the bath is brought and taken away. She builds up the fire so that it warms the room and places a chair near for later. Inpacking her backpack she takes out all her durty items to be washed and a small bar of soap. After her bath she will wask her things out in her bath and reserve one bucket for rinsing them.

About 30 minutes later there is a parade of servants, girls carring bucket of hot water on yokes, a footman with the tie tub. and younger boy with towels and wash cloth. WHEn the last of them leave she strips and slips into the tub for a soak. leaning back and sinking down it the warm water up to her neck. Taken a dab of soap pn and cloth she scrubs herself down quickly and efficently. and then soaks some more. Before the water cools too much she dunk completely under and then waashes her hair. Standing up she takes one reserved bucket and rinse herslf with clean water. Ariellyn steps out dries herself on one of the towels left by the fireplace to keep warm. When dry she puts on fresh undergarment and for now a clean set of clothes.

Now for her dirty clothes, Gathering them from the bed she dumps them into the bath and then soaps them up and scrobs them with a brush viogously. Finally satisfies she uses the last bucket of clean water to rinse them thoroughly. Wringing out the closthes over the tub she twists them tight until she gets out as much water as she can then she wraps them in the last towel and squezzes them again. Braping her wet garment over the dhair bythe firs she calls down for he bath to be removes. Asfter they leave she sedges the door shut. and goes to sit on the hearth with her cloak wrapped about her mostly to let her hair dry before bed.

With long strokes of her brush she spreads out her tresses to speed the drying process. SHe takes out her journal and writes down the days activities and her observations. starring certain parts and thinkgs she has learn that she thinks are important for her to remember.

In the morning she is up with the sun and stretching out before woking on pulling her bow and strengthing her arm that was broken. Luckily it mended quickly enough before her money ran out. What with some of the loot she got from the goblin attack she was in better shape financially. She spots the note when it is placed under her door and picks it up and reads it thoroughly. Good a possible job. She willl be sure to be there on time.

Going downstairs Ariellyn orders breakfast. Not sure if the meal will be free she makes it a simple one, porrige, cream, some dried fruit to mix in the porrrige and honey, and a cider. As she eats she looksa around the room. She is early but figures other will be coming down soon enough.

Ariellyn made sure to be last to leave Aldern's coach. As she did she turned back to him,

Many appreciated you invitation, many appreciated your hunt. But not all did and that is to be expected in life. Your behavior on the journey back was not one I would have expected from you in your position, however one can forgive much of that for you are young. I havenoticed in my life that thee young usually consider themselves and their own feelings as paramount. If you would win the heart of a woman you must put her feelings first and not your own. GOod day to you and thank you for the invitation."

Ariellyn makes her was into the inn joing Selaro wherever she sits. You made the right choice to accept it. He really wanted you to have it and proof of his prowese. The young are like that alwasys showing off. WHich is why he did not handle you initial refusal very well. I spook to him about it privately THE gods only know if he will learn anything from this."

"It seems the group has sort of broken up," Ariellyn observe as she scans the common room noticing all all the others in different places. Chance meet as we all were it was not likely to last," she thinks out loud to the young woman Selaro.

"I came here in hopes of finding another adventuring group to go out with. My last one, what was left of it left me at the healers and depaarte since with my broken arm I was little good as an archer."

Before the feast

As Ariellyn rejoins the rest Selaro grets her solemnly. I didn't want to kill but I was given no choice. I had gone up a tree to see if it was the marked boar. I told the others with me what I was doing and that I would let them know if it was. I hadn't even found a good place to view it when Welbry fired and hit the boar. Of course the boar charge him. I had no choice but to shoot to kill it before it gored Welbry." Ariellyn told her story with disgust in her voice.

"When I confronted him later on the way back as to why he didn't wait for my signal, he said he hadn't heard anything. He shot before he even had a clear view." she finishes as she shakes her head.

The feast

During the feast Ariellyn will join Selaro but sits apart from the others. She will eat and drink sparingly but not boar--not on this day--being disheatened by the outcome of the hunt..

Under the conditions you set I, the player, can certainly live with "IT". Though I am going to have to change Loriel's dharacter concept I have written up already since her favorite enemy is goblinoids-hobgoblins. If he plays a hobgoblin I will have to change it because of the problems it would cause.

I will continue to play but I do not "like" the idea of a monster race party member. Drow are different they are a race that is known for alignments other than evil and they are intelligent rance not a monster. True not many of them are good or trustworthy. So theDrow is not the same problems as a goblinoid race would be.

Jozan1 it is true you can probably make just about anything and you said something about being CN but when I read your post to the Icebreaker you character, which was supposed to be based on your character concept fo this game, you killed an elf and was planning to eat it. That is not the act of a CN character. Tt is the act of Evil though and I as a elf would be foolish to travel with you. Character is what you are in the dark. .

I am sorry, Please She rises for her bedroll and packs it up. She wrapped her cloak about her and moved closer to where he watched over the camp, seeking his companionship to help chase away the bad dream.

Siliwen tells herself that she should have known it was a dream. She had studied some spells from Joriel's spell book last night seated on her bed roll near the fire for light. Perhaps that was what precipitated her dream. It had seemed so real never had she been attacked in a dream, perhaps frightened when she was young because of her vivid imagination but nothing ever like this. Even in the faint glow from the campfire, one can her face is still pale and her violet eyes huge.

Trying to move her thoughts onto a new subject because she really didn't want to discuss what the dream was she starts up a conversation with Riddle. Trillian backs against the wall tightly as the wolves move by her. Since their mouths are full of prey she is not overly worried until the largest appears. He is unencumbered by prey and takes his time looking them over but makes not move to attack.

Now Trillian would be the first to admit that she is not very familiar with the way animals act in the woods, but the stories about wolves she has hear, of wild ravening beasts, did not seem to match the actions of this pack. And the largest of them eyes with those strange, abnormal green glowing eyes as he slowly—almost as if he were anal sizing the situation as he passes by them. It was as if he had an intelligence that was beyond that of normal wolves.

Only when the largest had passes from view into the depths of the cave beyond the party did she release the tension on her bow.

"Now that is as strange a happening that I have every experience," she comments to the rest as she puts her arrow and bow away and draws her sword.

Ariellyn retrieves her arrows from the boar. Their darkwood shafts, so much tougher than regular arrow, meant less breakage. The action gave her time to calm herself down. She was angry about what had transpired. She had not wanted to kill the boar at all, all she was going to do was see if it was the right boar. Welbry shot at it before she had found a place to check it out. Then it raged and attacked straight and Welbry the only one of the group in sight. She had wanted to not shoot and let the man take what was coming but she couldn’t.

Ariellyn considers not saying anything, as she walks back quietly behind the others. Dragging the boar back, she left to the bigger members of the party she wanted not part in that. However, if she didn't ask him why he fired before they knew for sure she would not understand his reasoning. She had thought he understood she was going to check out the boar and if it was not the trophy boar then they would leave it alone.

“Welbry, I would like to ask you something?” she drops behind the group so that their conversation would be private.

“I thought the plan was that I would see if it was the trophy boar before we took action. There was no reason to kill the boar otherwise. I hadn’t even got into position before you fired. It was not threatening us yet so why did you shoot before we knew?”

I would love to play a ranger-archer specialist, either 1/2 sun elf, 1/2 moon elf or perhaps a special DM race is possible too.

"The shadows dance and cavort around the clearing you have chosen to make camp in. The late autumn breeze fights the mediating warmth of the campfire to send shivers down your spine. Daybreak will come soon, but the constant feeling of hungry eyes staring over you is enough to keep you from some much needed rest. Gazing out between the silent trees of the surrounding forest, a fleeting glimpse of movement darts from cover to cover, shadow to shadow…

It had been a long day in the saddle. Loriel had not stopped until the darkness made further travel hard for her horse. Mor, her horse, afterall deserved a rest as did Moon Shadow. they had been on their feet all day with only brief rest stops for them all. Over all it had be a dissappointing day. Her one lead had died out abrouptly and now she had to go back to see if she could pick up her brothers last know position. The camp fire burn softly in the chilly night not that Loriel needed it for warmth as much for the light and lifting of her spirits. Her favorite cousin had gone missing and no one seemed to know what had happened to him. She had now been on his trail for month and with the last lead faded to nothingness her mood was at low ebb.

Moon Shadow, first made Loriel aware of the movement in the forest just beyond the reach of the light from her campfire. Her dark head raised from her paws her head had turned slightly pricking her ears up. Her golden eyes fastened on something. Loriel new that movement recognizing her companions intent interest. She did not ignore it. Loriel dropped her hood, which had been up for warmth and let her eyes adjust to the darkness beyond. The elven sight a useful bonus to a Ranger in the wilds.

Loriel did not worry that much about what lay beyond in the darkness, though she did wish to discover more about what it was. Firstly it was furtive movement mean it was cautious so a degree. However it is not wise to turn your back on the most cautious creature least it be emboldened to become less cautious. She stood up the folds of her fine woolen cloak of deep forest green fell around her With the fire to her back her front was in shadows too, which allowed her to slowly move her had to her sword beneath it and pull it clear of the sheath. She would have preferred her bow but to use that would be to make her actions clearly visible to whatever lay be young flitting from shadow to shadow.

Moon Shadow rose to her feet as Loriel did. Her nose lifted to scent the breezes. Fortunately if this thing move a bit more it would be upwind of Moon Shadow's sensitive nose. The campfire reflected on her coat. It was of a smoky, dark green with splotches of lighter green scattered across her back, looking very like moonlight dappling dark forest foliage--hence her name Mor was an unusual hybrid mating of coo shee and wolf. Loriel herself was a strange hybrid of Sun elf and Moon elf. They belonged together.

Another flit in the shadows caught Loriel's attention and this time Moon Shadow growled low in her throat. With that warning Loriel clear her sword form her cloak and stood ready--lightly balanced on the balls of her feet feet spread to shoulder width for easy of movment in any direction..
