Isn't working angles what Basyl does best?

It's all cool man, I've already edited my post so that I don't finish saying surrender because of your attack. I feel there is always room for a bit of comedy.

Applaud for you for putting up with my shameless sniping of the thread.

*spanks himself*
Bad Loki for stealing T_O's posting spot!

I'd love it if you could put more descripting into your characters actions... I'd also prefer to keep at least one of the bandits alive for questioning. Valandril pick's the elf as they are both elves... no other reason then that. But the bandit leader, if he doesn't bleed to death, could be questioned if we stabalise him and.... yer that'll take too long.

EDIT: But we don't have to do that, seeing as Leanderia knows where the bandit camp is.

Topic: Forgotten Realms: Edge of Darkness
Subject: Downed by a dagger

As soon as the men came into the clearing Valandril and his own companions were ready. Three men and the elf, metaphoricaly, stumbled into the rapidly arranged trap with so much grace they might have fallen and tripped over a log themselves. Valandril was surprised to see an elf among them, a moon elf like himself, and like himself it seemed the elven bandit had seen the worst of Tyther as well. For a split second he was reminded of his long months on the run; the fear that where ever he camped he would be found, not being able to trust a soul outside his companionship of a fellow 'man on the run'... They had fled after the end of the war. They were on the wrong side and feared persecution. They had lives hardly worth living...

Snapping back to the present, after his moment in the past, he let fly his dagger at the well-armed opponent, who could be none other than the leader, of this group, and launched himself towards the treeline. His trusty blade was making for the man's heart, and by the thud and cry of pain, had found it's mark. In rapid succession two more projectiles were let fly: A sling stone found the elf's cheek, and an arrow that narrowly missed another of the bandits. Basyl then launched himself towards the only unassailed bandit remaining and kicked his boot into the man's chest. The bandit fell backwards to the ground, wounded but not dead. Leanderia simply stood, watching and ready, as her previous assailants were, in turned, assailed.

Now hidden beyond the treeline, Valandril had options. His dagger had served him well and he had already drawn an arrow from his quiver, ready to impale his next target. The bandit Uryuu had missed would be his next target, seeing as the man in scale armour was obviously in no state to fight anymore.

He called out to the elf.
"Surren-"
Needless to say this was in elvish, but his words were cut short by Basyl's actions.

He then circled round the back of the bandits best he could and loosed an arrow at his target, preying to Solonor Thelandira that it would find its mark.

((OOC: Calling out, in elvish, to the elf, then moving. In that order so that I don’t give my position away so easily, but I’m not exactly worried about sneaking. Valandril will then shoot the bandit Uryuu attacked.

EDIT: DA helped me with my grammer and punctuation. Many thanks!))

Topic: Forgotten Realms: Edge of Darkness
Subject: A dog? Where?

Valandril was standing as soon as he’d heard something coming, which as it happens was a bit after the rest of the group, and by the time the woman had crashed into their camp he already held his bow in his hand. The woman, mad by appearance, had fallen with a loud, dull, thud on the soft ground before scrambling up and dashing towards them, pleading as she did so.

“Please help me! They captured us and the others need help! They have a ba—"

Her crys cut short by those of her pursuers

"Get back here you filthy dog-lover, I'll flay your skin for killin' Dusty! You'll make a great pet for one a' the bosses!"

By now Rendar had already grabbed what he could of his own belongings and fled, disappeared into the scrub, leaving his pack and bedroll, before Basyl’s hush call could reach him. A sudden sharp yip, perhapse the yap of a dog, followed from Basyl’s general direction, but he had more important things to worry about then what seemed to be hurt stray animals. It was apparent to the group that the woman had gotten herself tied by whoever was following her, and even if he could get his dagger to her to slit the bindings what good would it do? Perhapse an extra warrior to fight with them, but there was no telling why she might have been tied in the first place. No, the woman would stay bound until her pursuers were dealt.

Paying little attention to the woman’s pleas, or Basyl, who had simply hidden himself in his make-shift hammock, he suddenly pointed at her, flattened his palm, and then lowered it some distance. The sign for “Get down” he had learnt with his company long ago, it was an army thing, be he hopped the meaning was clear enough. Having given the girl his sign he then held his dagger in his right hand, ready to throw, and waited for the men to appear.

((OOC: Sorry, the backpost part of the post will follow later today. I just wanted to get Valandril’s immediate actions in to keep the flow going. Basically Val is standing on the opposite side of the camp from where the “crazy lady” entered it and has his dagger ready in his right hand but is also holding his bow ready in his left hand as well.
Also “he had more important things to worry about then what seemed to be hurt stray animals” could apply to the Basyl, or it could not ))

Subject: Questions, questions that want answers.

Jozan:
Does Valandril reconise the voise or the nickname shouted?
Valandril will also have made a check, about at the same time they were making camp, to see what he thought the weather would do overnight and in the morning. I'd like to take a 10 on this check please.

The_Haruspex:
Once Natalie has left Valandril will smile and comment in halfling "Rapskallion"

Everyone:
It becomes apparent over the days journey that where as Valandril can understand Common he either seems to be unable to speak it or unwilling to speak it. He'll only speak to the two humans in Elven, and to the halfling in Halfling.
He will also remain a silent partner for much of the trip, only contributing to conversations about everyone's history, why everyone is doing this 'quest'/'mission'/assignment, where to camp and the watch roter.
He's going to ask a bit about everyone's history, a bit about why everyone is doing this, suggest that as he was a scout in an army (not saying which) he should do the scouting, and sugest that he does not take the first or second watch.
If there is anything you specificaly want to know about Valandril please ask me instead of taking anything from what I submitted to Jozan for the Q&A.

That is good, because DarkAutumn would make 5 and we cannot have a group of 5 (as previous discussion has indicated).

Does anyone mind if I back post a bit, there are things I would like to cover? (Perhaps I'll post them here so that others can respond to them)

Honestly, I don't mind a bit of railroading, but I didn't expect you to progress us so far. I guess a disadvantage I'll have to get used to again is that you cannot interrupt the DM to have a quick RP session.

Topic: Forgotten Realms: Edge of Darkness
Subject: Enter the Elf

Valandril honestly didn't know what he was doing in the city. He had the money to return home, many times over, and yet he did not. He hung around, an isolated elf in a human city, like stray dog hanging around it's old masters home. It wasn't that he didn't want to return home either, but for some reason his heart didn't yern to return to his clan. If it was honest with himself however, he knew why. He'd grown accustom to being around humans just as he'd grown accustom to the old clothes he wore.

He'd listened to the rumours of Duke Inselm’s speech with mild interest a few days ago, but it wasn't till his old companion, who joined the city guard, hinted that he should go that he decided he should go. Hence, a few days later, Valandril found himself wondering through the carnival that had attracted itself to the city, rather than skulking in the shadows like he would have done. There'd been more than one occasion, over the last months, that he'd been wrongly accused of robbery, or murder, or both, by the citizenry and the guard would have been quite happy to hang him had it not been his friend's intervention. So Valandril knew not to trust the common folk, but he also knew there could be good among them.

The elf listened, with the rest of the mob, to the sensationalist yelling of the Duke and thought of how the senseless loss of life had not done nothing to sell when the minds of the common people. That said, he also knew he could not stay in this city forever, and likewise could not rely on his friend to be able to keep him from harm forever. Come nightfall, when the crowds had dissipated he approached one of the humans to list his name to ‘drive back the foul beasts’. Returning to his abode, a hovel in the poorer district of the city, he gathered his things into his pack before beginning his nightly meditation. Come morning, or at least morning for him, he rose set out, for the last time, for his early-morning wash. Taking his dirty clothes from yesterday he headed for the city's central garden, on the way he pinched fresh clothing, and a towel, from a line and left his dirty clothes in their place, to bathed in one of the cities' ponds. Finishing he towelled off, dressed, replaced the towel from where he pinched it, and returned home. Valandril had kept this routine up for perhaps two months now and not one person was any the wiser way clean washing should become soiled overnight.

Come dawn that day Valandril met his new group of companions outside the city wall, a pale skinned halfling carrying a spear, a human in ridiculous attire, and another human, but this one completely covered by a cloak. So these were to be his companions he thought, as a second halfling, this one female, greets them and begins explaining their task.

"So, all four of you know why you are here and what your job is, Passerby is 'bout forty five miles north of here, good two days hard walk, three if you take your time. I can give you half your pay now and half when you come back with valid information or proof if you some how fix things up there."

The halfling takes a step closer.

"And, please tell me if you see any sign of a halfling up there by the name of Henry. He's my little brother and I'll tell ya that's why I volunteered to take this job, to see what happened to him. If any of you can I'll pay out of pocket for any information on him, I just really need to know what is going on. Please, be safe and if you have any questions, now's the chance to ask. I'm assuming you have all your needs and gear, as heading out now might be your best chance since it seems many others are on their way out too. And who knows, with this many people on their way out anything can happen on the road. So, does anyone have any questions?"

Valandril looks down at Natalie as she shakes his hand, such an odd human custom, and feels for her, his clan lost many when they fled from the Mir, but all he does is nod solemnly and wait for another of the group to speak.

(Hope this is of a good enough standard as well, I haven't written a post in ages!
Yer, lots of editing/edits needed, I decided to try out some voice typing thing. Don't think I'll use it again.)

We could post our combat actions in a Q&A thread and then at the end of each round each of us can do a write up of actions directly relating to our character?

It's a bit more complex but I think it might work... Or at least it can't hurt to give it a try

EDIT: but otherwise I vote for 3

I think it's quite lucky all of our language choices.

Valandril can, and both humans can, talk in Elvish so we can communicate in a non-common language incase we need to fight other humans.

Valandril can also talk to Render in his own language should he wish to be less then friendly towards the others in our group

Our characters, as a group, can also undearstand an speak Goblinoid and Gnoll, should we wish to communicate with them or if we are captured by them.

EDIT: Please don't get ideas Jozan

Shoot!

Well if they are going to be 0.25 lbs each then I'll only have 4 of them to keep the weight down and no clear water tablets. (FYI they are both from Complete Scoundrel)

I'm am personaly hoping that an extra player joins our group, I know people might cry a 5th is bad luck but I'd say it would be far more unlucky not too.

Swiftness and maneuverability, and to that end I belive I may have found a solution to the problem presented by heavy rations.

Trail Bar (1 gp): This tough, 4-inch-long bar of vegetable
matter provides the equivalent of one day’s worth of
food. A creature that has consumed a bar (which takes
about 10 minutes) receives all the nutritional and
stomach-filling value of a full day’s food—if none of the
flavor. However, consuming a second trail bar before
24 hours have passed sickens the creature for 1 hour.
Rangers and bounty hunters carry trail bars only if going
into the wilds for long periods of time, and even then
only reluctantly.

I've quite some gold left over so I might get myself a good number of these seeing as they don't seem to weigh anything.

Jozan, would you be good enough to remove a large sum of gold from my character and deposite 20 trail bars in my characters equipment? Could I grab 5 clear water tablets as well for 1 gold each.

EDIT: I'm quite sure that part of the "stomach-filling value" of these bars is that they taste so bad you wouldn't want to eat more then one a day!

Well my character's problem the studded leather armour he has on but I am, at the moment, unwilling to sacrifice that. I'd idealy like for Valandril to keep hold of all the items in his backpack and that he has equipped, but I get the feeling that very soon into the start of the game I will either end up buying a mule with someone or just ditching a lot of equipment...

EDIT: Or I can hope that we find a few Heward's Handy Haversacks early on in the game.

EDIT2: Or I could ditch my longsword, trail rations and one-man tent. If that is not allowed right now (because I have already fiddled with my character a few times) then I'll attempt to sell them in game.
Or I could ditch my trail rations and one-man tent if I swap my Studded Leather Armour for Leather Armour. If that is not allowed right now (because I have already fiddled with my character a few times) then I'll attempt to sell them in game.

EDIT3: Gear changes made, I'm a bit short on some supplies but at least I'm carrying a light load.
