Thank you. Congratulations on your 1200!

Just trying to work out what to do with my inaction. I should probably post just to acknowledge what has happened but I can't think what to say.

Subject: Map reading

Having apparently been given the role of navigator, and having been reading the map Efen began pointing to places on the map and tracing out a rout with his finger explaining as he did so. His finger started at a road, presumable their current location, and showed a rout through forests to a point marked only by a small circle.

"The house is about 5 miles away, best part of two hours walk, and the shortest rout takes us this way through mostly forested areas."

Looking up from the map Efen points out the direction they have to start walking in before taking a quick glance at the sky as seemingly nothing in particular.

"That way, and then just follow me with the map. The good weather should hold for the rest of the day as well."

Keeping a grip on the reins of his pony he addresses the man who had given them this task with a question.

"Can you give us a map of your house, some sketch of it's layout and the surrounding land? It may help us assault it and oust the goblins quicker."

(OOC: Sorry for the short post, and posting a bit late.)

Subject: Hi

For those of you who didn't know I live in England I do.

Um, a BA in English?

I'm not sure what that qualifies you for. You could apply to teach Icelandic in a school.

My advice though is to make sure you have a job lined up before you come over but that goes without saying.

I will post up soon about reading the map and hopefully we can get on our way. If Luther can post soon then I'll have no qualms about posting up the route to the guys property and we can then get good and lost on the way.

Just kidding, the chance of getting lost with Efen navigating is slim, admittedly he has trouble finding north but a first level shouldn't be able to do everything.

Subject: Centaurs and Treants

The tend was cold and the fire dead when Éofara rose in the morning, he shuffled out of his bedroll wishing that he’d taken a winter blanket to wrap himself in. At least it hadn’t rained. Pulling on his shirt and breaches he finally reached his boots, pulled them on as well, and stepped out the small tent into the darkness of the night. It wasn’t that he was nocturnal; it was just very early in the morning (just gone 2 o’clock). He ducked back into the one-man tent to find his backpack to get at his flint and steel, he quickly returned to upright and set about lighting the fire from the small pile of wood that hadn’t got too wet from the due and the embers of last nights fire. Soon the campfire was burning and giving of a little heat and light, taking out his axe he set about preparing the rabbit he had caught to eat. Cutting off the skin with attention and care none would think possible with an axe he pealed it back from the flesh, having gutted the animal last night so that it didn’t fester he continued preparing it until such time he began roasting it on the fire.

He had no more water then his waterskin contained so had no opportunity to wash so began to pack up camp, it was still a way to Vyrrmas, and by the time he had finished the rabbit was closer to being cooked. Taking out his fletching tools he began to finish the arrow he hadn’t been able to last night, before long he had finished it and the rabbit was ready. He ate his fill and laid the last just within the tree line; let his labour be of benefit to which ever scavenger found the roasted meat first. Pulling on his leather armour, longsword in its sheath and quiver he tossed his backpack across his shoulders and began his walk to the city. His movement slowed by the weight of the pack it took him longer then it otherwise wood to reach the city even though he had been closer then he thought. Arriving just after daybreak he picked his way through the city to find an inn, crossing the square he saw one.

Entering the inn, the guests had not risen yet but the proprietor, sleepily turning stools off tables, didn’t take long to notice Éofara enter.
“A room, I think I’ll be staying for at least tonight. And something to have a wash.”
The woman was happy to comply, handing him a key after taking his coin and hooking it from a cabinet behind the counter. She explained she’d send someone up with some hot water. The narrow staircase that wound its way steeply up the corner of the building creaked worryingly as he kept to the wider parts, he’d never been inside a permanent building before let alone upstairs, and although he wasn’t claustrophobic he was more used to wider spaces. His tent had been small and he’d slept in that so it was more the ‘going up stairs’ that worried him. He didn’t feel as lonely upstairs, although no one was up he could sense the presence of each person behind each door, slotting the key into the keyhole he supposed he’d have to turn it to open the door. He knew what all these things were; he’d just never had to use them in his life before. The door swung open revealing a sparsely furnished room, a low bed with a mattress and blanket, a chamber pot, a small table and a window. Looking out of the window he realised he’d never been this high before but for some reason it didn’t panic him, the building was thick wood and stone, more sturdy then his tent or any of the trees he’d climbed in his youth.

He first removed his leather armour and laid it on the table, he did the same for his quiver, taking the unstrung bow from it and laying in on the table individually. The axe from his belt joined them on the table and so did his longsword and sheath, not long after laying down these and sitting his backpack against a leg of the table a nock came at his door. Opening the door he revealed a boy, no older then 9 or 10, holding a heavy bowl of water he knelt down and took it from him. The boy ran off from the strange pointy eared man who had taken the bowl from him. Pleased that the water in the bowl did contain some warm water he placed it on the floor and stripped off, placing a heavy pouch of coins to his side, to wash.

Having cleaned himself properly for the first time since he had left the centaurs he pulled on his old and dirty cloths, after replacing the heavy pouch of coins under his shirt, armed himself and placed a second pouch onto his belt before locking the door and leaving. Downstairs the patrons had mostly drift in to find their breakfasts, he asked the owner of the inn if there was somewhere he could get new clean cloths. Directed to a small shop that would exchange dirty cloths for matching clean ones he was able to exchange his shirt, breaches and cloak for clean articles of clothing before visiting the place he had come to the city to visit, the Temple of Mallien. He intended to enquire about a cure that he could take for his people, he actually had very little idea clue about if they had one or if they would be willing to help him but he had to enquire.

He entered the Temple and was immediately approached by a priest, or whatever they liked to be called, and asked why he had come to Mallien on this blessed day.
”I must know about the plague, my family may die if…”
But he was cut short, the man had simply said:
“Say no more. We have the situation under control. We will make an announcement and an example in the square later today.”
Blinded by gratitude and hope he accepted this statement without argument or question. It was his immaturity and lack of understanding of humans that cause him to come to the conclusion that they were going to show an example of the cure later in the day, besides, in his tribe you never questioned the word of the priests. They spoke one what was true and best of the community.

He returned to his room in the inn where he waited for the announcement in the square. When the mob started gathering he left the inn and joined them, standing near the back, but still surrounded by men, he could hear whisperings. Occasionally the chatter of the mass died back and let him overhear a snippet of conversation. Then a priest came onto the stage, followed by a man in chains. The priest had an eye on his tunic and a sword at his side. Strange, why does he have that? It was a short wile until Éofara realised what was going on, and by then the priest had started talking.

“People of Vyrrmas! I call your attention upon this display set before you! From within our midst, the watching eyes of Mallien have identified one soul turned to darkness!”

Disgusted by the idea of it he simply returned to the inn and his room to find a folded and sealed letter had been slid under his door. It was addressed personally to him, Lainon.

The times upon us are rapidly changing the world, and I fear not in ways for the better.

How can anything truly be for the better when pointing somebody out and declaring them a practitioner of the black arts, accusing them of heresy and conspiring in the creation of the Scarlet Flashfever, can earn one praise and the other damnation? We are a people who pride ourselves on logic and reason, and yet, this is how the sun sets every day? With an execution in the square that the public goes wild over?

There is a truth to be uncovered here, one that is being hidden from the public eyes. It is a truth that Cardinal-Deacon Ilphian knows, but will not acknowledge. Eyes must be opened in the ways that Mallien would wish, but whether we serve that faith or not, the goal is still commonground.

You are not the only one to be selected in this unveiling. There are many needs to be filled. A sword-arm with a resolve as strong as steel. An open hand, to spread healing in the name of true peace. A voice of the earth, as deep as the mountains themselves. A woodsman, to guide through this twilight hour. A sneak, to slip past even the sturdiest walls. And finally, a spellweaver, even in these darkest times.

It is still the early hours, and the watchful eyes of both town and temple will scour the lives and souls of everybody within and without these walls. But under night’s embrace, the house adjacent to the Burning Treant, in the Warehouse District, will be empty. I expect to see you there, when darkness falls.

E.

This ‘E’, the writer of the letter, was right. How could such a death be right for a civilised age. He was in from the moment a new truth was mentioned, he wouldn’t find what he was looking for from the same priests who had just executed a man, justly or not, and could only assume that when the letter mentioned a woodsman ‘to guide through this twilight hour.’ it could only mean himself. His entire race was in its twilight hour and he couldn’t imagine a second Mith’ganni too close to the city. He wondered about the spellweaver though, could this spellweaver be trusted, it was his kind that had unleashed the plague on the world.

Having made up his mind he left the inn once more, if he was going any were then he’d need to be prepared. There was very little time for craftwork on the road, he’d make the most of his time between now and the meeting, so he searched the city for the people who would have what he needed: a smith’s shop for arrowheads, a poultry farmer for feathers, a lumberjack for coppiced wood and a general store for thin twine, suitable resin for glue and a long cloth bag for a quiver. Returning to the inn he fetched his fletching jig and tools before starting his work. Later that day, when night began to fall he returned to his room and armed himself properly; sliding on his armour, strapping on his quiver and axe, placing the bag of new arrows in his backpack and pulling that over his shoulders. He made his way to the Warehouse district, to the house opposite the Burning Treant. His slightly less than almond eyes the colour of the moons overhead.

(OOC: OK, may not be my best work, it’s certainly my longest but I’m not too great with introductory posts. I have deliberately chosen not to include a description of my character in this post, I will include one when we all meet at the house opposite the Burning Treant.)

The jedi are not the only people with force powers you know, I find it more fun to play a force user who isn't a jedi. Of cause you don't get a lightsaber but it's still cool.

Humph, I spose it could be worse, I mean Hako isn't dead and neither is Ithiria. Half the party can still do something.

EDIT: Thank you for ruling that Hako stabilized, but if you want us to get off the station before you wrap it up then disabling half the party is not the way to do it.

Subject: If it starts with blood it'll probably end with blood

Nice start, I have to say beautifully crafted. It puts me in a very difficult position.

My character is against the use of arcane magic and so all to happy for those who practice it to be persecuted. Be to him (and his culture) all life is equally sacred, belay that, life and sacred are the same thing to him... that's probably the best way I can describe it in a nut shell.

Hum, I am writing a post but it will require me to search Eofara's soul. I think he is likely to be opposed to the execution because it is that, the man did not die with honour and without being honored, he died being mocked and scorned by the inhabitants of the entire town.

EDIT: Just want to ask you a question about crafting actually, I've worked out that using the current rules it takes 7 and a half weeks to complete 20 masterwork arrows where it would only take a day to complete 20 normal arrows. I think this is grossly unrealistic (and yes I know it's only a game), your opinion on it please.

I'd also like to know the DC your going to set for crafting 20 arrows please, believe me, Eofara will be crafting his own arrows.

Granted. You build a time machine and go back to when you wanted a nap, unofrtunatly your past self sees your future self and murders your future self. This traps you in a never ending time loop where you start the day, go through it without a nap, build the time machine and then get murdered by your past self.

I wish that the entire world had secure, free, 2GB wireless internet access but idiots who just post spam on the net (not including RPG stuff) are too stupid to access the internet.

I honestly don't mind, but now you've posted I can post the queation I PMed you.

I'm guessing that map reading is going to be a survival check (and a relatively simple one at that), am I right? If so then I'm going to be taking a 10 on it giving me a total check result of 17.

Could you also tell me some information about the journey to the person’s house? What I can see on the map. Stuff like how far away is it, how long it'll take to get there, a description of the route etc.

Once a few more people have posted I'm probably going to get my character to ask if the person can sketch the layout of the house and its grounds on a bit of paper, just a heads up so you’re ready. I’m going to get him to use the weather predicting aspect of the survival skill to, well, predict the weather as well.

Subject: Intorductions

Thank you Aardvark.

I do have one prepared to post up, I was planning to introduce my character gradually through RP but here he is:

Efen, of the Frozen Coast

To someone that knows Efen is a traveller, a warrior, for the Frozen Coast. A bleak part of Altria where all the land is snow and water ice, it’s a harsh environment to travel through and if the cold doesn’t kill you the beasts that live there will. Despite this depiction it is inhabited, not much is known of the people who live there, only really what travellers would tell and when they do tell they tell of a proud people, people who defend the land with their lives and worship the moon and ocean and some among them who command the ice and snow itself.

To those who don’t know Efen is a traveller, a warrior, has something for blue, a man who carries a decorated bone spear.

On his travels our protagonist has picked up an assortment of things that look almost out of place with him, brown leather armour, warn under his pale blue cloth wrap but above his dark blue cloth shirt. A pony that follows him loyally, carrying Efen’s load over it’s back, a sharp short dagger made of steel tucked under his belt on which a money belt also sits, given the chance to camp with him you’d also find a small wood box of Passionflower leaves, a percolator and mess kit. His dark blue shirt keeps close to his form and its sleeves covering the palms and backs of his hands, but not his fingers, his leggings, seaming of the same piece, reach down into travellers’ boots and a pale blue cloth reaching down to his knees and around his waist. Waterskins hang by his sides, straps crossing each other across his chest and back, the stoppers closed but facing forwards rather then up.

Overall Efen is not an impressive sight, particularly as he stands before the man, on the stool, behind the stand, on the road. People often don’t know how to react around Efen, he doesn’t appear like a warrior with his spear in hand and they would probably be right to, Efen is capable warrior with a spear but he can’t wait to break the shaft. All males of his tribe are trained to use the spear and females with the javelin, in memory of a time when the water and land was not frozen, as a tradition once someone has mastered using water bending to defend themselves they break the shaft of their spear or javelin. From the moment of breaking the shaft that person’s responsibility is no longer the survival of the tribe but the survival of art form that water bending is considered to be.

Efen himself left the tribe long before breaking the shaft of his spear, he still hasn’t broken it, he left the tribe because he was not considered an acceptable husband to the girl he had idolised. Although this seems like a self imposed exile it isn’t, it’s a tradition, an unwritten law, that if a man does not receive the blessing of the farther of the girl he is courting then he must leave and return in a year with a gift to prove his worth. Efen has been away for 9 months, hasn’t found a suitable gift for the girls farther and is having second thoughts to the girl he was courting. His journey has opened his eyes to the world.

EDIT: And who said anything about charging Ion? Efen isn't charging, although he is happy to lead.

Subject: Delta Squad GO!

Hum, I'm sure I'd be able to RP only taking into account the groups actions that I am in. And, although I probably shouldn't, I like the sound of both groups joining up at the end for something epic.

My concern is that it'll become confusing keeping track of who is in what group, what they have said and what actions they have taken. But is we had a gentleman's (or gentlewoman's) agreement to simply put the Subject of each post as our character's name and the group they are in it would become easy as pie (umm pie). This would probably mean two posts from you whenever you update Almerin but that would be instead of one massive one.

If we are going to go in the same thread and we use group names as the post subject then I vote the original group is called Alpha Team and the group Dragonblood, me, Usso and Vanadia make is called Delta Squad.
(Because Delta Squad sound way better then Beta Squad, Beta Team and all names sound better then Team 1 or Team 2)

EDIT: The usual spelling check.

Karra had succeeded? The hanger doors were closing, and being a bit noisy about it too.

Ara manoeuvred the sled into position before the hanger doors and let out a long burst of fire, Hako could only see it leaving the barrel of the gun but from the almost drowned out growns and thuds she had hit something, a few somethings. She'd, in one shot, totalled more than he had. He saw the devastation when he stepped out from his hiding place, four troopers on the floor, the captain and two more approaching the group. Hako pulled the triggered and sent one more trooper to the ground, it was surreal, he was used to shooting the things, killing people, but not on this scale. So many dieing in so little time. The sight had just drawn all emotion out of him. He could see where this fight against the Empire would take him, could do to him, and he vowed that would never happen. He wouldn't become a soldier for a rebellion, he didn't want to mow down troops, but he'd keep fighting, not to destroy, he'd fight for something worth fighting for.

He was so wrapped up in his thoughts as he stepped back he missed his shot, the bolt sailed past behind the back of the captain’s head. The captain’s hand raised the sled bucked and throw Ara off, Hako was in shock, what was this. His shock soon faded when the man spoke.

"Now! Prepare for the wrath of the Empire!"

Hako just snorted, returning to himself as a slightly changed man. He took swift aim at the last stormtrooper. A Clone? And pulled the trigger, if this man was going to die he'd make it quick for the poor Clone.

Ithiria had darted across the hanger between Ara'ala mowing down the Clones and himself shooting one of the last, the captain was unwavering in his attack though and didn't follow her bait. He was himself torn, should he have shot the strange man or should he leave him to Ith and help Ara'ala, they were all injured and this man wasn't. He'd help Ithiria bring him down, only help.

(OOC: Three guesses what Hako is going to be fighting for.

If your still doing the two round thing then (hopefully the last ST will be dead so) Hako will start shooting at the captain. I do have a specific line for him to say at the time of the captain’s death but I want to reveal it myself in my own post.)
