Subject: hyperjumps

Here are the planets to which you can hyperjump directly:

Ord Mantell
Dorin
Dantooine
Adumar

When I say directly, I mean that a Hyperspace Beacon is close enough to give you a signal. You could hyperjump to any planet really, but doing so is dangerous.

Basically, if you haven't read the chapter on hyperspace travel during the Old Republic, if you are close to a Hyperspace Beacon you effectively have a navicomputer and if there is no such beacon nearby you effectively do not have one.

I personally want to limit it a little bit more, so that the beacon can only assist you to certain destinations. The list above are the destinations the nearest beacon can assist you with.

I'm basically railing the story here, I know, but at least you get to choose

It took me a bit longer than I intended, but I've got the update in.

You've escaped the hangar, and you have some passangers.

There are two enemy starfighters heading your way. You can either stay and fight, or jump to hyperspeed. As a rough estimate, I'm giving you a full round or two before the starfighters get in range.

Because of the hypersystem-thingy during the Old Republic, your destinations are sorta limited. I'll add a list as soon as I have figured it out myself.

Subject: Run!

All the refugees come rushing into the hangar while screaming and yelling. Two pilots each take a single ship and wait for everyone to get boarded. Only few refugees accept Arruna's offer and board Awvoor's ship, a single Bothan and a Rodian travelling with a human youngling.

The Bothan is an adult, and by the looks of his stature and movements he appears to be experienced and a little paranoid. The Rodian walks directly to the shuttle, only occasionally looking back. His clothes suggest that he is not unaccustomed to fighting, and his trenchcoat has obviously been patched up more than a few times. The young girl travelling with the Rodian appears to be no more than 14 years of age, and dressed in worn out clothes.

Benjamin and Milix follow close behind them, and just as they get to the ship's door the Mandalorians burst through the Republic defenses. Awvoor's ship fires the blasters several times to break the Mandalorians' line, and as soon as the door is shut and Kate has entered through the top hatch the ship takes off.

The ship flies through a rain of laser blasts, and the other two ships from the hangar follow them closely. One of the other ships gets hit by a stray shot, and is blasted into oblivion. That shot seems to have been accidental, though, because no ship is coming after you.

CUTSCENE

Darth Nadi enters the hangar from which you have just escaped, and she sees as the three ships take off. A Mandalorian walks up to her.
"Mistress," he says, "we have nearly secured the ship but there is no sight of the Khil embassador or the Jedi."
"Keep looking," she replies, "and do not let anyone escape."
"Mistress," he says hesitantly, "we are warriors, not murderers. These are mere refugees and are not capable of defending..."
A sudden burst of red light extends from Darth Nadi's hand as she swings it towards the Mandalorian and cuts him down. She then aims her lightsaber at the next Mandalorian.
"Give the order!" she says. "No one leaves this ship alive unless I say so!"

Just as you are getting out of harm's way, you notice two Mandalorian starfighters are heading your way.

The problem wasn't the darkvision, but rather the crappy lightsource that messed with things. So you'll keep your standard darkvision and now all is fixed (until I hit another problem with the tool)

Apparently, this mapping tool is trickier than I originally thought. Because I gave Kaylena darkvision as standard (because you have to manually switch between them) the tool also gave her low light-vision. The room should be more shadowy than it actually appears to be, but because of Kaylena's low light-vision we can't see it on the map unless I switch it back to normal.

This means I need to be constantly switching back and forth between darkvision and normal-vision, because Kaylena only gets this bonus while in shadow (which she, partially, is). Remind me not to allow another character with situational vision

I'll fix the map soon, so that it includes a normal-vision version of what you guys should see (or not).

EDIT: Apparently, I was wrong again. I had the chandalier set to wrong lightsource. It's fixed now, and all is so much simpler.

You actually dreamt that? It's not such a bad idea

Anyway, the chandelear was actually set to be a stronger lightsource than a torch, so I tuned it down a bit. I'll add in a shadowed version of the map for you so you can see where the shadows are. By the looks of it, there won't be any except inside the prison cells.

EDIT: Apparently, it is spelled 'chandelier'. Also, here's the shadowed version of your starting point. It emphasizes Kaylena's range of sight, which is why some things are shaded and couple of tokens are cut in half (she just doesn't see the other half). The shadowed areas should be pretty clear to you.

Good thing you didn't have me do it. You may have noticed the lack of updates with my own webcomic

But yeah, SNEAK PEEKS!!!!! WE DEMAND SNEAK PEEKS!!!!!

Unless the word is 'peak', in which case you should disregard what I just said.

Can we at least have a plot summary or the names of the main characters?

Actually, if the check results must be over 20, the feat won't be useful until around 4th level or above. 7th level would be ideal. Why? Because you need to have UMD 10+ to get a check above 20 with an automatic 10 on your roll. It is kinda useless at levels 1-2.

The scrolls have an activation DC of 20+spell level, true. I can't seem to find any set DC in the wands' description, though, or the rods' or the staffs'. Might be in the Player's Handbook, under the Use Magic Device skill description. Haven't checked that.

The feat looks pretty dumb, unless you've maxed your UMD skill and have a high Intelligence score. At 4th lvl, your ranks in UMD can be as high as 7. Then you need Int 16 to get it up to 10. If I remember correctly, you can get a synergy bonus from Knowledge (Arcana), which might give you a +2 bonus if you have 5+ ranks in that skill. So you might make use of that Deceive Item thing with as low as Int 12 (although you'd need to max your UMD ranks and have at least 5 ranks in Knowledge (Arcana) to do so).

This assumes, of course, that I'm remembering all this correctly. And I do think that wands and staffs and rods don't need such a high check. I might need to look into it though.

I've added maps to the intro post of the red team's starting point. Since Dragon Mistress hasn't sent in a portrait yet, I gave her a temporary one. If you need to guess, hers is the one on the bottom right in the close-up map.

The maps are linked to in the intro post. Go there if you want to see them.

I wanted to remind you guys that I will be updating the game tomorrow as planned. Not updating last Wednesday (I think it was the last) was just a situational occurance. I won't be waiting for anyone. Not a soul. No matter how few have posted.

But seriously, a reminder. I hate reminding people to post. Feels like I'm pushing. So I won't remind you again.

Although there is a possibility that the two groups will meet, it is entirely up to you whether or not you'll end up attacking each other

That could be fun though

Brianna: Yes, the game thread is active. It is in the Dungeons & Dragons subforums. You can't miss it.

Also, I did some editing so now the gaming thread is linked to the Q&A thread.

I personally prefer the Saga Edition. I'm just now reading Revised for the first time, and at a glance it seems to me that I might enjoy SE better. It has fewer Classes but much more options for each Class, so each Class in Revised is covered in SE. It has fewer Skills which makes things much simplet in my oppinion. Little stuff like that.

But I could probably go either way.

Got the pictures you sent me, but it appears you sent me two pictures. I'm not really sure which one you want me to use (I was a bit confused by your email). So would you want me to use the one with red head-band or the one with black lines under her eyes?

My fault, I guess. I had the chandalere produce torch-light, because I felt that multiple candles would do better that one. I could edit it to suit the room better, but I'm not really sure there's need for that.

The chandalere will be brighter than a candlelight, though. Just a matter of by how much.

I'll look into it. The easiest way would be to find an upgrade on the items you take and reuse them. I'll dive into the rules soon enough and have a look at what you can do.

(By soon I mean in few days, maybe.)

I want to get another game of Star Wars going, either as a player or as a GM. I would love to play a Mandalorian, or run a game focusing on Mandalorians, but with exams coming up I might not have much time to run yet another game. I'm willing to try though.

So here's the question: Is there anyone who's up for a game of Star Wars? I was thinking Saga Edition, or Revised, since those are books I have access to. Not sure about Free Form though.

But any interest? As players or GMs?

Anyone?

Subject: Shadows and Lights

There has come up a question regarding shadows in the game. The Shade can hide in shadowy illumination and so on. The shadows should be able to be seen on the map, although it is difficult to see on the maps I've given you so far.

I haven't tested the effect of Darkvision on the map completely either. It is possible that the shadows will be out of place (or simply not there) because of it. It is a bit more work because I will need to switch the Darkvision on and off. It is the same with low light-vision, because the shadows appear further away than they should.

As a quick reference, what you can see on the map is what is bright enough to be seen. And here's a picture to show you the difference between shadowy illuminated and fully illuminated area.
Photobucket

I'll see if I can do something so that the darkvision doesn't overlook the shadowy areas.

EDIT: And what do you know? The RPTools team have released a new update that fixes this problem exactly. Yay

It actually matters which Mandalorian because one is still alive

You can deal with the sharing bit later, but make sure everyone's cool with it in the end (through roleplay or whatever). It would be really frustrating if someone wasn't cool with another player taking everything for himself. Just to let you know.

Also, improving stuff with identical stuff is not as easy as you might think. Mostly, you could get bonus to repair that stuff with the identical stuff.

Anyway, I'll start working on that list of items soon. It may not all be in perfect working order, but you might find something useful either way.

Game has started. I did not do an intro for the Red team, because the Red team has one character withour a token and one token without a character. I'm gonna wait for Brianna's token so I can at least include it in the map. The intro will be up tonight either way.

EDIT: Also, if you for some reason can't post, PM me and tell me to be ashamed of myself. At the moment, everyone who has finished their characters, and have been accepted by me, should be able to post.

EDIT2: I've added the Red group's intro. I also wanted you guys to know that I assume that all the chests, barrels, and cupboards are empty because you've already searched them (which is why you have your stuff). So the room is already searched and no need to search again.

EDIT3: Update's scheduled for next Friday. Have your posts in by then or miss out on that bonus XP goodness

Dungeon of the Unhallow
Day 1 after the earthquake (AE)

The Dungeon of the Unhallow is a dark place. There is no natural light, only that which is provided by torches and candles. Darkness surrounds this prison.

As prisoners, you have been locked up in the Dungeon for some time. Some for years, some even longer. You remain in your cells and never get to leave. Food is brought to you by the prison guards, massive collections of walking armor. You may have wondered if there is anything underneath the plates of steel, but nothing points to it.
You may have tried to escape, but no spells work in the cells and you have no tools to open the lock. You may have tried to starve yourselves to death, or even tried to commit suicide, but death only brings you a different view of the endless prison. Within a day of your deaths, you awaken again in another cell.

But something changed. A powerful earthquake shook the prison down to its core. Locks shattered as debris fell on them, walls came tumbling down, and many prisoners escaped from their cells. You are among those prisoners.

BLUE

The powerful quake forced the walls in the back of your cells to come tumbling down. As you move into the room behind it, you come accross a room filled with chests, barrels and a cubbard. As luck has it, in these containers you find much of the gear that you had before becoming the Dungeon's residents, as well as much more that you can make use of.

What is more, though, is that you are not alone in this room. Two other characters have stumbled into it as well. All in all, there are three of you in this room. Enemies? Friends? Better find out, if you intend to get out of this prison.

Map of the room
Map of your total view

RED

When the earthquake shook the ground upon which you stood, the walls came tumbling down, creating a passage through the neighbouring prison cells and into the open. The room that is revealed to you is much larger than the cell in which you have been stuck in for.. who knows how long. You stopped counting the days a long time ago.

The room is lit only by couple of torches and several candles, with the side wall crumbled. There are several chests, barrels and cupboards, in which you find the gear that you had before coming to this dreaded place, as well as some other stuff that might come in handy later on.

What's more, you find that you are not alone in the room. Others have escaped as you have.

Subject: Update

Alright, I've updated. Not much action this time, since I think we've had enough just for the time being. Anyway, you can either stand there for a short while or get to the ship. It is your choice.

You can see on the map where everybody are, except for Awvoor and Wrrlwarr who are nowhere close. Arruna's speeder is in the cargohold.

You can also see on the map, where the Mandalorians are neatly packed in.

Loki, I have no idea which Mandalorian you took nor which droid. Either way, they all had some stuff with them and I'll share a list of items shortly (when I'm too bored to do anything else).

Now, remember to share.

Also, XP. You all get the normal Activity XP as well as some bonus for finishing this secondary mission. Enjoy.
