Subject: Finish it!

As his comrade came flying towards him, the beardy thug with the fire-axe swung his weapon and knocked the corpse out of the way. The shadowy ripples from Arashi's sword crossed the cart and hit the large thug. Even though the ripples did not seem solid, they still cut through him as if Arashi was slashing him with his own weapon. The big thug fell down nearly instantly, with a large cut crossing his chest.

The woman stared at the others twisting and turning and cutting and breaking. "My name..." she said hesitating but quickly rose her confidence, "my name is Trista Odinsen, daughter of Odin Allfather. My comrades and I were attacked by these men and their leaders closer to the back of the train. I ran away. I need your help, my friends may still be alive."

A wide swing came towards Cage, but the tire-iron only met steel as Cage blocked it with the claws from his gloves. The thug growled and screamed like a berserk, only to have it quickly silenced by Jacob's blade. The thug stood for a second, only then to fall down into the two pieces that he had been cut. That was the last of the five men that had rushed in after the woman.

OOC:
Arashi got 4 successes over the opponent's DV and did 4L damage total. Got 1 SB and no reward for it seeing as Arashi's Legend pool is already full.
Cage did not have a fitting Virtue IMO and so he took a Guard action.
Jacob got 8 successes over the DV and did 7L damage total.
Neither Eztli nor Guy took any actions worth rolling.

Topic: What Games are You Planning?
Subject: What Games are You Planning?

I know I can have several ideas for games or adventures every month. Sometimes, I push these ideas to the back of my head for later use and sometimes I start the actual planning.

Like just now, I've done some basic planning for a Serenity RPG game that I'm interested in starting (I've been watching Firefly, sue me). The game uses some material from Fireflyrpg.com such as floorplans for the main ship. It is in the base-plot stage but I like the system and I am hopeful about getting this game started in a near future.

I'm also toying with an idea for a game of Exalted 2nd ed set in the seas of the West, with some focus on swash-buckling action against Lunar pirates and seabattling stunts against the Dead Armada. It sounds fun but I'm going to think some more about it.

But I am interested in knowing if it is only me who gets a boat-load of gaming ideas or if there are others who share my dreadful curse. More to the point of the thread: What games are you currently working on getting started, and what ideas would you like to get out of your head and into the gaming world?

Not unless you intend to play him as a mortal. If you are going to play him as something else (vampire, werewolf, whatever) you don't get the benefit of +25XP.

Ghost
Longchester Hospital for the Insane

The priest looked somewhat surprised at Doctor Einhart, who was now possessed by Hiram. After Hiram had said what he needed to say, the priest closed his mouth and took a deep breath.
“Do you think of me as a fool, doctor?” he said with a serious tone in his voice. “Do you think you can mock me? That I came all the way to Longchester to be mocked? I am a professional exorcist, and I will not be made a fool of.” He stood up to emphasis his words as he took a copy of the Bible in his hand. “I believe that your behavior shows that you are not fit to be in your position. Seriously, if you had seen the exorcist you could at least try to act like you were possessed by a malevolent spirit.” He walked towards the door quite angrily.
“Mark my words, doctor Einhart,” he said as he was about to open the door, “there is something in this building that you should be afraid of, but I will make sure that you will not have to worry about it as I will send a letter to your superiors asking for your immediate resign from this hospital. Good bye.”

As he opened the door, a figure met his gaze from the hallway. A dark figure with burnt skin as dark as coal, and a smile as vile as the devil’s. The priest did not get a chance to scream as the Good Doctor thrust a scalpel deep into his neck. The priest fell down on the floor with blood gushing from the nasty wound where the Good Doctor had stabbed him.

“Laugh or cry, doctor Einhart,” the Good Doctor said with his unearthly voice, “your time is up.” At that very moment, the sun sat down.

Vampire & Werewolf

“The catch?” Salomon said with a grin on his face as Ren asked his question. “The catch is that you may not ask any questions. What information you get is what I want you to have. I told you already, the address is in the envelope. Get the man off my back and you will get the Diary in return.”
Salomon’s grin hid behind an angry face. “The sooner you bring back confirmation that I will receive no more pressure from him, the sooner you can get the Diary of Morpheus. And that is what you want. You don’t want to know why you have to do it, and you don’t want to know why I don’t do this personally. What you want is the Diary and that is what you get once your work is done, no sooner.”
Salomon finished his glass. “And for your information, mister Majere, I will insult your intelligence if I am in the mood to do so. I recommend that you remember your place and do not talk down to me again.”

Mage
Ryozo’s Sanctum

Daiki smiled. “I think you are overestimating Longchester, Piers,” he said. “This can hardly be called a city and it is not that big. To tell you the truth, we have no way of finding her. The only thing we know is what we have already told you.”
“We know she is no older than 16,” Ryozo said. “We can also assume that she may have visited a doctor concerning insomnia. The last two did have problem with sleeping due to the Beast invading their dreams. If this has been going on for some time, she may have been put in a mental institute in the last couple of months. Perhaps she has been there longer, perhaps she isn’t even there yet.”
“There is no way of pinpointing her exact location,” Daiki said. “The only ideas we have are gathered through mundane means. Looking at what we know and putting the pieces together.”

I'll add it in.

As for the next update, it will be on Friday. I will require over half of the players to have posted by then (3+) or else you will have to wait longer for the update to come in.
I will not wait for any single player to post at the last minute. If you have not posted before I update, that is your lost round. So go on and post ASAP!

EDIT: There are still 2 thugs left standing; one with the fire-axe and another with a tire-iron aiming for Cage.

EDIT2: GT, even if you can't find any mortal that could teach you ancient Aztec, which I am going to say is Nahuatl, there are those who do not count as mortal who actually did speak that language when it was at its prime
Seeing as it is plot device, it doesn't really matter where you learned it.

I just forgot to add in your Epic Int. Since language is more of a plot device than actual stat, you can add in the languages that you like, but there is really no reason to fill up your language slots. If it fits your character you can and perhaps should, but if it doesn't fit your character you should think about it.

As you possibly know, damage is not rolled against Extras. You should also know that you did do damage, just not a lot of it

I'm not gonna give up soak or DV, but your Attack successes that I give up have the opponent's DV subtracted from them. If this did not make much sense, let me know

After every combat round I will post the statistics in the OOC bit. In the future, I will have it a bit more simplified though.

If you for some reason don't post in time, I will base your action on your Virtues like I did with Drakar's character last night. In his case, I rolled his Valor and got 3 successes and so I made him attack.

May have noticed that I will not dish out XP for every post like I have done in my other two games (that actually lived). I think you will get enough XP without me doing that.

Stunt Rewards:
1SB: 1 Leg
2SB: 2 Leg + 1 Willpower/1 XP
3SB: 3 Leg + 1 Willpower + 1 XP
Note: Does not increase beyond normal limit

Subject: Train Fight

Eztli somehow reacted before he even knew what was going on, but he was somewhat relaxed as he moved. As he stood, the thugs seemed surprised at how this person seemed relaxed. The thug leading these five was furious, but before he could raise his weapon or even open his mouth Eztli had punched the thug's face so that he was thrown to the thug standing behind him.

As Eztli helped the woman, the leader raised his aluminum-bat once more. "I'll smash your pretty face, mother..." he said but did not get to finish as Arashi came rushing in to the action from behind him.
"Over here, you bastard," was the last thing the thug heard, for as he turned to meet his new assailant he only met the shadowy blade that was Kage no Ken. The blade connected with the thug's figure at the shoulder, but cut though his skin and bones much like it would cut through a tissue-paper. In one good swing, the thug's body was cut open, from his right shoulder down to the left side of his hips, and crimson blood gushed forth to be spilled on the floor of the cart. The body stood for a moment as the life was slipping away, and fell then down as lifelessly as it was.

"How about I give you six?" Cage said as three knives on each hand sprung forth from between his knuckles. The thug he was facing seemed shaken, but the surprise did not stop him. The thug raised the tire-iron that he held in his hand, and screamed like a berserk while he swung his weapon unsuccessfully.

Guy waited for the right moment, and as Cage had made his move, Guy knew it was his time to act. He rose up and grabbed the biggest thug's neck with but one hand. The skin of the thug was stiff, like his muscles were completely tight. The thug was about to raise his weapon of a stick, but Guy's grip was tight and it got tighter still. Within mere moment after Guy had grabbed him, the thug's neck cracked, and the lifeless arm dropped the warped stick. As Guy held the body still in his arm, he could feel how the body's muscle did not loosen just yet.

The other thugs were slightly disoriented by the rush of attacks. Already there had been casualties in their group, but that did not slow them down or ease their temper. They all screamed with berserk rage as they swung their weapons, but they could have just as easily been swinging at the air around them. The Godsons hardly needed to move to avoid being hit, they swung their weapons completely without aim.
Jacob, who thus far had only been sitting in his seat and waiting for the right opportunity, finally saw it and drew forth his weapon. Jacob's Ginsu Blade came down upon the thug with the mullet and the knife, who had foolishly turned his back to Jacob in order to attack Cage. The gush of blood stained Jacob slightly, but his seat and floor were stained even more as the lifeless body of a knife-wielding thug fell down.

OOC: So we had some good stunts here for this update. GT scored a one point Stunt Bonus, which awarded him with one point of Legend (which he also spent in this turn on Opening Gambit). Shounin however scored two point Stunt Bonus, which awarded him with a point of Legend and an extra XP. Solon scored a one point Stunt, but as his Legend pool is full he wasn't really rewarded for it. Good stunt though. Weekend scored a one point Stunt, for which he was rewarded with a point of Legend after he spent one to summon forth his claws. Drakar did not post and so did not score a stunt at all.

GT scored 2 successes on his attack (after applying DV) and most of the damage he did was soaked. He dealt total of 2B damage.
Shounin scored 8 successes on his attack and did enough damage to actually kill the Extra. He dealt 6L damage.
Weekend scored 1 success on an Intimidation roll (after applying the opposed roll) but did not score enough successes to actually scare the opponent.
Solon scored 7 successes on his Clinch attack, and dealt 5L damage.
Drakar did not post, but scored 7 successes on an attack roll and dealt 7L damage to the target.

Subject: XP pay day

So there comes a day when I actually do what I have said I was going to do, and what I am going to do is to let all of you who are interested buy what ever you like for the XP you have earned.

This is how I would like things to progress: You post here on this thread a list of what it is that you want to spend your XP on. You can spend as much as you like or as little, or simply not spend anything at all. I will then make comments on those lists, if needed (don't expect it unless I find faults in your calculations). Your list must include what it is that you are spending your XP on, down to the last dot, and preferably how much XP it will cost you.

The XP will effectively be spent after the next update on Saturday, so you will have one more XP if you have posted before then. You won't have to bring in your wishlist before a certain date, so from now on you can spend all your XP at any time during play.

You may notice that this will increase your abilities considerably in the middle of what ever you are doing without any reference to training time. Unless that completely derails the game and turns it into a complete hack'n'slash, it doesn't really matter.

You can of course PM me if you prefer it, but I think you all should be allowed to know what your fellow players are spending their XP on.

Topic: S:HR - Road to Glory Q&A
Subject: Relic Houserule

I have been giving this a great deal of thought this past day and I have been wondering to myself if it was a smart move to allow the Relic capping to increase the same way as Attributes.

As the houserule is now, the number of dots you can have in Relic is capped at 5 or equal to your Legend rating, which ever is higher (so at Legend 7 it is capped at 7). Obviously, this can make a very powerful Relic when you've reached Legend 12, at which point you could cut through thick steel or shoot a fly across the three Worlds (you're in the Overworld shooting flies in the Underworld). Obviously, that makes a very epic weaponry.

On the other hand, that also makes you way too powerful for comfort. It also makes you rely too much on you weapons. When things get tough, "Don't worry, my sword turned Manhattan into rubble, Fenris won't be a problem." When things get easy, "My sword leveled Manhattan to the ground, I'll just cut through this army of zombies in one swing." The power you have, the more work I get in making any reasonable challenge for you.
I want you to be fighting Titans for hours (game time), not mere seconds. Where's the epic struggle when you can cut through Surtr without pausing on your way passed him?

We still have several chapters before you can even dream of getting a 6+ dot Relic, so there is no need for us to come to a final conclusion right now, but I would really want to know your opinion on this. I don't want to give you everything on a silver-platter (and trust me, I won't), but I do want you to have a say in this.

Topic: Addy needs your help! (Non-native English and bilinguals especially!)
Subject: Yay, language

Fun to be mentioned specially
Specially since I am studying changes from Old English to Modern is the Uni these days

To answer the questions first:

1) It is possible, but I really hope not. The younger generations speak more and more English it seems, and it has caused trouble with teachers and government. But in truth, the younger generation has been speaking more and more English for years now and hardly anything has changed. As they slowly turn into the older generations, they use English less and less I think.

2) English is very common in Iceland. I don't think you could start a conversation with any random person you meet. Around 16-25 years olds are perhaps the ones who are the best candidates for such a conversation, but a large part of them probably couldn't speak much English either. I've heard heard questions in my old school like "What does 'or' mean?" and the like.

3) German is much less common than English in Iceland. If you manage to hold up a conversation in German with any random person here in Iceland, you are either talking to a German or someone who has studied the language by heart, which aren't many.

4) Aside from Polish or Danish, you won't find much of any other language. Polish because of all the Polish workers that are living here and Danish because it is taught in school from the age of 10 -ish.

5) English is taught in our schools. When I started learning English, I think I was around 11 or 12 and it was taught as a third language. Danish was taught as a second language from around the age of 10. I think they have switched this now, so children start learning English sooner than Danish, but I am not certain.

English is mostly used for technical jargon, such as for computers, and have been given some Icelandic rulings. 'To download' for example becomes 'að downloada'. There are Icelandic words for these (like niðurhal for download), but they just aren't used. When I am roleplaying, I have to use a whole lot of English words because we just don't have good Icelandic words for them, and then we add Icelandic rules to them. We talk about 'að taka action', or 'að fá critical', or 'að drepa bugbearinn' because we don't have good words to replace them.

But if it of any interest to you, the younger generations know more English but the older generations know more Danish. Of course, I wasn't much for the history of language in Iceland, so what I have just informed you may not be completely accurate. Hope this helps though, but I'll ask around and see what other people say.

Ghost
Longchester Hospital for the Insane

As Hiram stepped up to Einhart’s office, unseen and unheard, Einhart was at that very moment greeting a man who had just come in. The unknown man looked like a priest, with a silvery cross hanging around his neck. He was well bearded and silvery grey hair was starting to show.

“I am glad you could make it on zuch a short notize, Vater Winters,” Einhart said as he shook the preacher’s hand.
“I came as soon as I could,” the preacher said, “you were lucky you caught me while I was visiting. So, you say are having some trouble with a poltergeist?”
Ja,” Einhart said, “a demon that is messing vith my head, and vants me to reveal to him the secrets of my patients.”
“I am glad to see you have resisted his influence. I felt his pain and anger as soon as I walked in. This ghost has power.”
“I vill not let him destroy this asylum.”
“Do not worry, my son. Once the exorcism is completed, he will rest in piece and bother you no more.”
“There vill be no rest vhere he is going, I hope.”

Salomon smiled. “It is a simple matter,” he said. “There is this fellow who is targeting my domain. He wants to make it his and is pressuring me to leave the library.” He signalled another ghoul to come closer. It was not the same ghoul as the one who had brought them in, but a completely different one. A fragile looking woman. Salomon whispered something to her and and she was off her way again.

“This man is a Carthian,” he continued, “a neonate with arrogance. He stays in Old Longchester and, although he is not heavily guarded, he keeps two ghouls near him at almost all times. I want assurance that he will not bother me again.” The ghoul servant came back, holding two bottles and an envelope.

“The man’s address is in this envelope,” Salomon said as he took the envelope and signaled the ghoul to put the bottles on the table. Shortly after, another ghoul came with three glasses. “I don’t assume that you would like any red wine, mister Majere,” he said again, “but I do believe you will find this refreshing bottle of a young virgin most enjoyable. As for your friend, I always have a bottle of red wine just in case.”

Mage
Ryozo’s Sanctum

“There isn’t much we know about her,” Ryozo said disappointed in his own incompetence. “She would have to be around sixteen years old and she just so happens to be female. Other than that, we have nothing.”

“The thing about the key,” Daiki added, “is that whoever it becomes is chosen completely randomly. As much as we like to control it, the key is a force that choses its host by itself. We have no saying in it. When the key leaves its last host it targets a newborn child to be its next host. That is pretty much everything we know about the key and the host.”

Ryozo sighed. “There is more that we know,” he said as to correct what Daiki had just said. “The girl will have some power that comes with the key. She is able to see things others are not able to. Exactly what it is that she sees is arguable among us, but we do know she should be able to recognize the Awakened on sight. The key allows her to see things that should not be seen, and to understand the impossible. Some of us believe that the key awakens its host, but she won’t be able to use any sort of magic.”

“Other than that,” Daiki said, “you are closer to know who the girl is than we are. We have never seen her and we know nothing of her name. At least you know what she looks like.”

Subject: Clearing things up

Just want to clear things up before we start having a problem. GT just knocked the brute away but he is still a target of Shounin's attack. Nothing really changes unless Shounin decides to edit his post (which is not needed). The only thing that changed is the brute's position and Shounin can still cut him in twain. The brute is assumed to be well enough to stand in his feet, although barely, until hit by Shounin.

This is to make sure that even if someone with Opening Gambit attacks someone who 'has been' attacked by another player, the one who posted first still gets to hit his target and gets the honor of the kill/knock out.

Another note, I am allowing GT to cancel his Opening Gambit after I have updated if Shounin changes his action. But you should note that I will only allow it under certain circumstance, if I will allow it again at all. Later uses of OG will cost you the Legend point after I have updated.

Yee be warned!

Position came up as a problem. There are five brutes, the leading one stands close to the girl near the front of the cart, the last one stands in the back of the cart and the other three stand somewhere in between with some space between them.
I assume that you can't get from leader to backer in less than a dash. These are the positions of the brutes. They are Extras, so feel free to be cool

Subject: Update

Perceptive players may notice that I updated the Scion game. I did. And with that behind us, I'd like to get down to business.

First of all, this one is pointed to weekend. It seems you have misunderstood how Gods' Honest works. First, you need to show a sign of swearing to tell the truth. Hand on bible, hand over the heart or the like. Second, this will cost you a point of Legend, something that is completely useless in an intro post (no Legend is spent in an intro post so don't push it). Thirdly, even if he believed that you had forgotten your ticket at home that does not give you a 'free' access to the train. If you are without a ticked, regardless of if you have forgotten it somewhere, you are not allowed on the train. So for now I am assuming that you paid him off or bought a ticket before entering.

Second, because I am not going to rush you to post anything (I know weekend has a problem with computer access) for this Friday as I planned, I am extending your deadline to Saturday/Sunday. After that, I will start updating this game every Friday (barring any trouble of course).

Until then, have fun

EDIT: Oh, and you may notice that I gave Solon one more XP than the rest of you. This is not because I am favoring him over the rest of you or because he made a superior post than you (since he obviously did not), but I gave him an extra XP because he is unarmed and unarmored in the train. He is unable to summon his Relics, and has left them at home (which I am not sure where is but it is not in the train). In so doing, he has willingly put himself in more danger than the rest of you and I feel that should be rewarded with an extra XP.

Subject: Let the games begin!

The train was perhaps not completely full, and the cart where Fate had found fit to position the five sons of the Old Gods in seemed nearly empty. The train moved quickly through the mountain range, revealing beautiful scenery that could only be seen in the bright moonlight that lit the sky.

Roughly an hour had passed since the train's departure from Milan. Eztli had not been bothered from the man sitting behind him since the train started moving, Cage seemed to be making some progress with the short-skirted chick (musical instrument has that effect on some), and Arashi seemed to be making no progress with the banker at all.
In between the notes of the guitar-string, the talking from a short Asian fellow, and the muffled noise from the train, Guy and Jacob could hear some noise coming from the cart behind them. At first it sounded like loud talking, but then it started sounding more and more like fearful screaming. No one else in their cart seemed to notice this noise at all.

In a sudden burst, a girl came running into the cart from the following one. She did not look much older than 20, her blond hair reached no longer than her shoulder, and her figure was damn near perfect. Beautiful would have been the technical term.
"HELP ME!" she screamed as she ran through the cart and fell down at the other end. As she ran passed them, all five of the Godsons could see the cuts, bruises and blood that partially covered her. She had been in a fight and it had been recently.

A man stood up and moved to help her up again. At that very moment, five broad figures entered the cart from the same way as the girl. The five figures were all dressed in leather jackets and all had veins sticking out of the bodies were bare flesh could be seen. They had red faces and bloodshot eyes, like if too much blood was running through their bodies. All were armed in one way or the other, and all had smiles upon their faces.
Leading the five men was a bold fellow with a chain leading from his nose to his left shoulder and an aluminum-bat. Following him was an overly bearded man who did not seem to have had an haircut or a shower for months, holding a fire-axe. Close behind him was a short cut man with a funky mustache and a tire-iron, followed by guy with a ridiculous mullet and a big army-knife. Lastly, a tall ugly fellow holding a misshaped stick.

"Ticket please," the leader said as he came closer to the man who had stood up, and swung the bat fiercely at the man's head so that is cracked just before he fell to the ground. Screaming broke out in the cart and laughter from the five brutes ensued.
"It ain't nice to run away, girly," the leader said to the wounded girl where she still lay, "we were just about to have fun."

OOC:
Fighting, you pretty much know what to do. There is one brute per player, but I won't hold grudge if you take on more than your share (the others might though). Just think what your character would do in the situation.

Nearly forgot, I am imposing a -1 die penalty to all attack rolls due to the small space you're all in.

Edited the Update to fit Vorrioch's plans. Doesn't effect the rest of you though, so you just go on ahead and move along. Unless of course you haven't posted, in which case I suggest that you do, even if it is only just enough to get me going. You do know I am a roleplay-o-holic and I need my weekly fix, right?

I will edit my update, but don't expect it until tomorrow night or close to it. If you can't wait, go ahead and post if you like or start rushing me if you prefer

It is entirely up to you. If you don't want to wait, I'll just edit my update and tell you what it is that Hiram finds. But if you prefer including it into your next post, be my guest. It is entirely up to you.

I would like to point out though that Hiram is low on Essence. If he does find anything, I don't think he can do much about it.

The week's update is finally in! WHEEE!

This week, Hiram relaxes Annabell's nerves as he convinces her that whatever is terrorizing the hospital (not including himself, obviously) can not do so for very long, and if it goes too far Hiram will surely take drastic action. But is Hiram right, or is this being something else or even more than Hiram thinks?
Ren and William are offered a deal by Salomon in order to get the Diary of Morpheus from him. But what is it that Salomon wants them to do, and is it worth the trade?
Piers finds out more about the Beast that he saw in 'his' dreams. The girl needs help, but is Piers the right man for the job?
Find out the answer in an exciting next week's update of..
