1. The girl on the sketch is not holding anything.

2. Michelle Gardner's diary has not been made public. Those murders have however been made public. That which hasn't been published in morning papers (broad-sheet or tabloid) or TV has been 'published' through gossip and the word on the street. I assume that characters know the same thing Michelle Gardner knew when she wrote her diary.

Subject: Things are getting serious

Since things are getting pretty serious for some of you IC, Legendarious being attacked by that delivery guy and William in a tight spot with those two Werewolves, I've decided to let you in on few things.

First, I am not actively trying to kill you. If I was, you would notice. A good strategy might let you live longer and even become victorious, but a suicidal strategy is exactly that, suicidal. Hiding may not look all glorious and stuff, but it will keep you alive if successful.

Extras (those guys who nobody cares about) usually don't put up much of a fight. They have few health levels and suffering Lethal damage usually gets them running.

Death is far from being a distant possibility. Your character could die at any time in any fight. It may be anti-climatic but it still could happen. I would suggest that you have a back-up character ready when that happen, or at least the concept.

Bonus Points follow the Player, not the character. If your character dies your next character gets the Bonus Points you have left.

When it does come down to a fight, two things are possible. First we could act out every round, making each fight take weeks to finish, or we could skip several rounds. You can send me a PM, post it here or OOC in your game post, describing several rounds in advance, I make the rolls as normal and describe the whole thing. You could also just state "skip 3 rounds" and I fill in the blanks. There are many other ways to do it in order for the fights to take shorter time outside the game. The shorter the fights, the story gets further.

Of course, as soon as any two of the characters join up into a group, the fighting thing gets much more complicated. Until then, this is how we do things.

Subject: Another update

So update 06 is up. We may have a little more action now but I am sure it can be handled.

Drakar, I'm taking one Mana from you to make that shield of yours into a full day duration. Trust me, that shield just saved your arse

Gerald, you've been offered a job. Congrats. Liked your info on the wine thing and the philosophy part, so I gave you another Bonus Point. Yay

Shounin, I made you attempt an intimidation, but it failed. Enjoy.

Vorrioch, you're pretty much set. Liked how you figured things out with the pictures and the 'legends' (pretty much showed that you read that thing) so I gave you another Bonus Point

Since I am taking an exam on Saturday (damn whoever thought of that) I will not update until Sunday (or late Saturday at the earliest).

Annabell listened to Hiram as he told her about his long gone family. Annabell thought that it was sad, but one could hardly see it. She just stared at Hiram, or Sandra as he was posing as, and hardly blinked while he talked about how he had wanted a child of his own.

“Now, Annabell, let me ask you something: could you draw me a picture of yourself with your father and mother and brother James? I’d like to see you all together as a family.”
Annabell looked kinda confused at Hiram’s request. Then she just pointed at one of the pictures. On the picture, a girl was standing over a pool of blood and was surrounded by corpses. “That’s me,” Annabell said, “and my family.” She did not look bothered one bit by it and just smiled at Hiram.

Ren was getting interested in the reason why Dorian had offered him work. He had successfully ended a philosophical speach before it really started. But Dorian did not seem shaken, or at least he did not seem to accept Ren’s authority.

“Please, mister Majere,” Dorian said, “I have no intention to insult you. And in return I only ask that I am not insulted. Please refer to me as ‘mister Grey’ from now on.” He paused as he sipped from his glass of wine. He drank with elegance, and did not swallow right away as if to enjoy the taste as long as he could. “What we want is your resources, your status among both your kind and those thugs. We want you to turn your back on those you serve in order to serve us. In return you will be given power over those you turned your back on. We have allies and funds, but now we need man-power and that is what we want you to provide us with.” Dorian paused again in order to finish his glass of wine. “After your work is done, we will give you the power you need to take over the organizations you belong to.” Dorian refilled his glass and drank from it. “This is our offer, mister Majere. It is time for you to either take it or counter it.”

William could see how the face of the newly arrived man turned angrier as he said those last words. Although William could feel his blood boiling for a good fight, he was too close to his goal to lose his cool against these two. But the angry man did not seem to be bothered by William’s intimidations.

“I don’ think ye’ understand me,” the man said to William. “This is our terretory and ‘ere we ar’ Kings and yer a peasant. In our terretory, we ‘unt an’ ye’ stay back. Ye’ show us respect or ye’ will turn tail an’ run.” He paused slightly, took a breath and continued. “I was not askin’ fer yer lifestory, I was askin’ fer information about our prey. Flaws, tactics, or weaknesses even. Ye’ can threaten us as much as ye’ like but pick a fight with us an’ it’ll be the last mistake ye’ make.”

Mage
Daiki Sato’s apartment

Piers had just arrived to his mentor’s friend’s home apartment downtown, not really that far from the Jaded Dragon. Piers had been living there for some time now and was almost starting to think of it as home. Daiki Sato, his mentor’s friend and owner of the apartment, did not seem to be home. A note on the kitchen table explained his absence as he had to go out on business. Not something that happened very often but when it did it was always something important.

After a while, the doorbell finally rang and a voice called from the hallway, “Special delivery for Piers Fable.” As Piers opened the door a delivery man stood out in the hallway, holdin some packages and some papers that needed to be signed. While Piers was signing the papers, the delivery man had already reached for his weapon.

The sound of a gunshot echoed in the apartment and Piers stumbled backwards as a reflexive reaction to the revolver. The man in the hallway could hardly believe it. He had fired at close range, almost at point blank, and he had missed. Piers could feel where the bullet had grazed his cheek but had otherwise done nothing to harm him. The bullet did however shatter the vase that Daiki kept in the living room. A fake ming vase, but Daiki liked it.

Piers did not have much time to think about the vase. The delivery man had dropped the packages and was already about to fire another bullet. “You will not ruin anything!”

Subject: One day reminder!

Tomorrow is Wednesday. We all know what that means, don't we? I will update tomorrow for those few who have actually posted anything. That means I will update for only two players. Consider this as a reminder for those who have yet to post anything. If you haven't posted by the time I update, your characters won't be included in the update. It's not really a big deal per se, you not posting won't mess with the storyline at all. It is just that your personal story won't advance.

Assume I will update around noon tomorrow. No promises though.

Subject: Update 05

So the update is up. Yay. Hope you can use it.

Vorrioch, if you want to ask Annabell some more questions, or if you want to ask more about those dreams of hers, go right ahead. She won't answer any questions about her last dream but some of the older ones she might talk about. If Hiram is going to look at the wall with the pictures, it includes pictures of a gray guy without eyes but with long and sharp fingers, a scarecrow-like figure with a scythe, a big guy dressed in gray holding a sword or some kind of blade, a blue colored woman standing in water, a house on fire, and a picture with a girl standing over a pool of blood and surrounded by corpses. These pictures are on the wall but if you want to add something feel free to do so.

Drakar, if Legendarious wants to do something special, meet specific people or something, this is a good time. If you want to cut straight to a phone call from Ryozo, he will call you in the evening.

Gerald and Shounin, you're both pretty much set. There's nothing I really want to add there. If there is anything you really would like to know, just ask it here and I'll answer as well as I can.

Next update on Wednesday!

Hiram said that he could speak more easily like that, although how he spoke and his choice of words did not exactly fit the young woman he had possessed. He asked Annabell about her nightmares. Annabell did not look like she wanted to talk about her dream but looked at the opposite wall that was full of pictures she had drawn with her crayons. Looking at the pictures, Hiram could see that not one of them seemed to be happy.

“These are all nightmares I have had since I was moved here,” Annabell said. Most of the pictures on the wall were pictures of something unnatural, or even monstrous. The picture of the wolf that she had drawn earlier that morning, a monster with four eyes and a bony tail, and a man dressed like a doctor but with a charcoal-black face and holding a large knife. “The dream I had last night was a really bad one,” Annabell said like she was struggling to get the words out of her mouth. “In it, I knew I was going to die. I knew... and I couldn’t move.” Tears started to run down her face and she covered her eyes in her palms. “I was so scared.”

Trying to stop her from crying too much, Hiram changed to subject to her family. It took some time but Annabell managed to stop crying and start speaking. “My dad is the Chancellor at the University. He is always so busy with work. Even more so after...” She hesitated and bit her lower lip. “After Danny’s death.” Her face seemed like her mind had suddenly slipped out, but suddenly it brightened up again. “My mother has been very nice to me and James. She used to hug us and kiss us a lot than usual at first, but then she started to do less of it.”

Annabell looked like her world had just crumbled, but then she brightened up again as quickly as one would blink an eye. “What about you Hiram?” she said rather joyfully. “Do you have any family or dreams you would like to share?”

“Please, mister Majere,” Dorian said calmly, “just call me Dorian.” He moved around a bit in his seat, like if he felt it was uncomfortable. “I’ll admit,” he said with his humble voice, “that I imagined you would look more professional and stiff, not lose and without care. When my superior asked me to contact you, I thought that he wanted someone who looked like he had the skills that we needed.” Again he moved in his seat and his face started to look a bit embarrassing. “How about offering me something to drink? A bottle of fine wine perhaps?”

Without any wait, Dorian stood up and walked towards the bar counter. From there he got himself a glass and a bottle of red wine he found in one of the cabinets. He then sat down again and poured some of the wine into his glass. “I would offer you some,” he said, “but as far as I know, you prefer something alive.”

Eliza looked stunned. She slowly lowered her blades and stood at ease. It was like she was about to say something when somebody ran passed the corner. A young man, although fully bearded, with a sword strapped over his back.

“Bloody ‘ell, woman,” he said as he unsheathed his weapon, “not all of us can run as fast as ye’ can. We ar’ supposed ta be a team ‘ere an’ that is a bit tough when ye’ start running off like that.” He kept his eyes on William while he spoke, but then noticed that Eliza had neither answered him nor taken her position for a possible fight. “Eliza,” he said hesitantly, “what’s goin’ on?”
“I think he knows something about that beast in the woods,” she said, almost without any mind to it. “I think he can help us.”
“What did ‘e say?” asked the newly arrived man.
“He described a werewolf who with a destructive nature,” answered Eliza.

“Well, then,” said the man and sheathed his sword again while walking a little closer to William (but still keeping safe distance), “I think ye’ better start sharin’ or we will ask ye’ to get the ‘ell out of ‘ere.”

Ryozo listened to every word that Piers said as he described his dream in much detail. Ryozo’s face seemed like it was thinking about every detail and thinking about them very hard. In between he continued finishing his breakfast. “Listen,” he finally said after some thinking, “this dream may mean nothing at all. It might mean that you really want a girlfriend but that you are afraid that you would put her in danger, I do not know. But if you want to know what I think and I guess that you do since you came to me about this, it may have something to do with that prophecy about you.” His voice turned very low, almost into a whisper, at the very end. “The prophecy said that fear would destroy you, and I think this dream is acting like an emphasis or a reminder of that.” He drank some water and thought some more about the dream. “I will do some more research and see if I find something. That whole bit about you not belonging is challenging.”

Ryozo stood up from his table. “You just go out, get some air, and I will call you as soon as I find something.” At the end of his last word he quickly walked out while Legendarious was still sitting in his seat. Whether he noticed right away or after some time, Legendarious could see that Ryozo had made another daring escape from paying for the breakfast they ate.

Which is why I thought it might be a good idea for you to have more Essence than others have power (15 against 10) since you would use it much more often than others.

Topic: What Dreams Become - Q/A
Subject: A little fix

So I made little changes to the character-info bit in the first post of this thread. You may notice that your characters now have three kinds of health (I'll need to have a closer look at the Ghost's corpus to make sure that he gets three as well). The thing is that characters can suffer three kinds of damage: Bashing, Lethal, and Aggravated. The character isn't dead until his health has completely dropped to zero (all three kinds of healt). You should note that suffering Lethal damage also reduces your Bashing health, and suffering Aggravated damage lowers both Bashing and Lethal health. Suffering more Bashing damage than you have health starts taking off your Lethal health and then Aggravated health once Lethal is finished.
At zero Bashing health, your character checks for knockout (unless you're playing a vampire or otherwise dead) every round (I might make a houserule for this bit). If you lose all your Lethal health your character falls instantly unconscious (vampires drop into so called torpor). Mortals (and Mages) start bleeding to dead, suffering another health level every minute. If your character has lost all his Aggravated health, the character is dead or destroyed.

So it kinda looks like this:

Starting Health: 7/7/7

Suffers 2 Bashing damage: 5/7/7

Suffers 1 Lethal damage: 4/6/7

Suffers 2 Aggravated damage: 2/4/5

Suffers 4 Bashing damage: 0/2/5 (check for knockout)

Suffers 5 Bashing damage: 0/0/2 (knocked out)

Suffers 3 Lethal damage: 0/0/0 (dead)

Ghost
Longchester Hospital for the Insane

From the glass on the door Hiram could see where Annabell sat on her bed, staring into nothing at all. She tilted her head as she heard some girl voice mentioning Hiram’s name. She smiled slightly and said that the door was open. As the girl walked in, Hiram could see through the girl’s eyes how Annabell’s face turned slightly surprised.

“Hiram?” Annabell said in a low voice. She did not seem to really understand why this girl would say she was the kind looking doctor she had seen earlier this morning, or how that girl could even know the name of the ghost. Finally she started smiling, almost laughing. “Hiram, you look ridiculous,” she said, holding back the laughter.

Ren signaled the entourage to leave so that he could talk to the newly arrived person alone. That person looked rather young, perhaps in his mid-twenties. But when Ren looked into his eyes, he looked like he had seen more than a hundred years old geezer.

“I must admit, mister Majere,” the man said with his humble voice, “you are not exactly what I had imagined you would be like.” He slowly removed his leather gloves and neatly placed them on the table. “See, I work for a very powerful person, mister Majere. So powerful in fact that your superior is hardly a glimpse in comparison. And said person has taken an interest in you.” The man looked at his watch and placed his hands neatly on the table where Ren could easily see them. “I am afraid I do not have the information promised to you. I admit I did not think about asking for them before shooting the bum that had them.” He grinned slightly but never changed his humble tone of voice. “Oh, dear, where are my manners? I forgot to introduce myself. You can call me Dorian, Dorian Grey.”

William’s eyes stared deep into Eliza and his gaze pierced deep into her mind, and she gave away a low growl. This man somehow frightened her. He was overly confidant about his abilities. Sure, she knew that she would get totaled if she would fight him, but thinking that he could take on the whole pack seemed more like insanity. But if she would not get help very soon, this fight might end too soon with her downfall.

She started sweating, and gulped. “N-no single person can defeat the Holocaust,” she said as if she was trying to intimidate her opponent, but her stammering gave her away. “You wouldn’t even last a minute against Roke alone.” She tried to stand ready, but what confident she had when she got there had been diminished greatly.

Another smell caught William’s attention. The girl did not seem to notice this, perhaps more occupied at the immediate threat. It was not too far away and was heading towards them. Another werewolf.

Mage
Jaded Dragon Restaurant, Downtown

Although the restaurant known as Jaded Dragon did offer English breakfast, Ryozo had never tasted it even though he ate breakfast there every time he could. There is no way that I can be convinced of eating that cultural crap, he used to say but he did not comment on it this time. In fact, he did not say much. Just ate his breakfast.

It was not really because he did not like talking. Quite the opposite, he loved talking to his apprentice. But Legendarious seemed somewhat troubled. He was just waiting for him to tell him what was on his mind.

“So,” he finally said, halfway through his food, “how were things in my absence? Anything worth reporting?”

Subject: Agreed

I for one agree. Although I don't have it myself, I've tried it several times on my brother's computer. The battles are great, the graphics are great, the horse bit is great. I can't really think of anything bad to report about it.

Except the stupidity of one of the advisaries. This only happened once, mind you. I was at the top of one of those towers on the other side of one of those Oblivion gates or what you call them. I was low on health and had to face two of those Daedra sorcerers. All I could think of was 'damn, I'm gonna get my butt kicked'. But of course, one of those sorcerers decided to move straight for me, which meant that he walked off his platform and met his end at the floor below. I managed to kill off the other one without much trouble, but I always refer to the first one as the stupid one.

But like I said, it only happened once. I think they fixed it with one of the patches though, so don't count on being as lucky.

The reason? I've come to the assumption, as much as this sentence sounds weird, that I simply don't feel comfortable as a player and I am just going to remain a GM.
