Topic: Q & A Oaks Heart Subject: A nice small/short group
That is a nice little group we have there. Anvil is a bit concerned about being the only true fighter in the group, but he'll make do. If the Ancient One does join up it would be great to add a ranger or some such.
And now that the gang is all here, we can begin to explore the woods around Oaks Heart.

Anvil Ironfist is indeed a Dwarven warrior. He is now finished and ready to roll.
And glad to have helped bring the rat on-board!

Topic: The Return of the Prodigal Son Subject: The usual run-around
Khalessin listened to the woman describe their adventure and answer the questions posed. As usual with this sort of thing, there were very few answers. Or, at least, there were few answers being given - that did not mean the answers were unknown.
Before heading off to get his animals, he dropped one more question in the direction of their supposed employer. "The mountains you say? Mountains tend to be big things, is there anywhere in particular within those mountains that you might suggest we start? Or anything to look for? Something must be pointing you, and thus us, in that direction."
Once the young woman had finished evading another question (a bad assumption?) Khalessin will get his own animals. He already has a warhorse and packhorse and thus will not need the offered animals. However, he is more than happy to load up with food, ropes, packs and any other equipment that seems useful. Khalessin also has a falcon of his own, but expects no problem with the gifted bird.
Khalessin stops and listens to the bards tune. When it is completed he nods to the bard and says, "such clever and well sung tunes shall help pass the time on this trip until the excitement starts. You are a welcome companion." Khalessin waits for the others while standing next to the bard.

Topic: Q&A: The Return Of The Prodigal Son Subject: To the group...
Am I correct that we are now to go riding gallantly off towards the Mountains to rescue the missing beggars?
Do we have a reason to go to the Mts? Is there something we are looking for? Normally a search for something like this would start at the crime scene. Why is Khalessin about to go wandering around in the wilderness? Although we will probably just get the vague answers Spider is expecting, should we be asking something more?
Do we have any contacts besides the lovely young lady who gave us a bird?
Just thought I'd ask, normally Khalessin would like a bit more information before riding off - he doesn't even know where he is going!

As I implied earlier, I am resurrecting the name of one of my recent D2 graduates. Unless the group needs something else, I will be running Anvil Ironfist, a dwarven warrior.

Topic: The Return of the Prodigal Son Subject: The hunt for information begins
Khalessin was generally a bit on the quiet side. He sat back and listened as the group got to know each other. As the evening wore on he joined in the conversation as he decided that the group was likely to be a good one to a part of. Even those likely to have slippery fingers seemed to be well worth getting to know.
Khalessin slept easily that night in Needlemire's Inn. He didn't mind a bedroll and the stars, but had long ago learned to enjoy a bed, even a hard one, when he could find one. So he slept well and enjoyed the opportunity while it lasted.
In the morning he went downstairs, chatted with those who were there, and went outside when the group did. When the young woman informed the group that their messages would be relayed to Thyatis City by the bird, he felt the need to ask, "And who in the city will be receiving our messages?"
"We are all interested in this mission, but know little of what is required. When and where might we expect to hear more about this mission?"

That would be fun.... I suggest that you try that! Don't worry, we'll give you time to set it up. Then can we hunt down managers that aren't active in our little adventure? I really need that little devil emoticon they have on the RSI website.

Topic: Q & A Oaks Heart Subject: I'm in
I will set out to make a character - probably later today. The group seems thin on muscle, so perhaps I shall follow my first instinct with a Dwarf Fighter, although an elf ranger is a possibility.
A dark elf mage? Are all dark elves evil? Is that allowed in this group? Just checkin'.

Topic: Duel II AD&D Thread Subject: Best of both worlds
I am very glad to hear that we might be able to pick up with the Orlane adventure and continue. I look forward to it and will happily leave Oriel in Orlane.
As for the new adventure - awesome. I am not personally familiar with that world, but I have certainly heard of it. Did I read right that we will be playing a second edition game? Just checking - I'm ok with that since that is the version I have the books for, but I will accomodate whatever.
With no level limits on non-humans I will almost certainly choose a non-human. I'm thinking Dwarf. hmmmm...... perhaps a fighter named Anvil Ironfist?

As I already stated, count me in, whatever the plan. Also, if needed I could run two characters. I can use Oriel, or leave him sit incase Trip can return to this one. Just let me know what is needed.

Thanks for the update Trip.
I sincerely hope that you get things worked out and have some time in your life soon. If you do, I suspect most of us would be here waiting to restart the game whenever that happens. Good luck. Oh - and I still appreciate your starting this as it got me back in the D&D mode, which I had not been in for years.
As for a new DM - I'd love to continue playing with this group if possible. I know I don't have the time to DM, especially over the summer. Is there anyone else here able to step up?

Topic: Q&A: The Return Of The Prodigal Son Subject: Barmaid or not, she brightens a room
Khalessin did not mistake Darli for a barmaid - he was simply ammused by the reunion. And if that is how drinks get served in this place, he has been cheated so far!

Topic: Q&A: The Return Of The Prodigal Son Subject: At a table
Originally Khalessin was at the bar, but as the posts went along it seemed as if the group moved to a table. I just went with that. As long as he is close enough for the barkeep to get his order...

Topic: The Return of the Prodigal Son Subject: Now that's a barmaid!
Khalessin sat back at the table and quietly watched as the group of potential beggar-savers grew. It looked to be a diverse and generally pointy-eared crew. Elves, he was half one himself, and he respected their abilities. He suspected that of those currently present he would likely be asked to ride point, but that was nothing new. Talent, that was what he wanted on his side, and that was what it appeared he would have.
When the half-elf who wished to be called Spider approached the table, Khalessin thought he appeared to be a solid addition to the crew. Something was a bit wrong, and he wasn't pleased that he was unsure what it was until the barmaid appeared.
As the mug of ale fell to the floor in a waste of a good drink, Khalessin could not help but smile. Clearly here was a reunion worth having.
As he watched the warm greeting, Khalessin caught the eye of the barkeep and commented, "I'll have what he's having!"

Topic: Q&A: The Return Of The Prodigal Son Subject: Khalessin...the strong silent type?
Khalessin the warrior is still sitting in the tavern waiting as the various other group members gradually approach the table.
There isn't a whole lot for him to comment on, although I feel like I should be doing something considering the extensive character development going on! I suspect he will be highly amused by the coming reunion.
Could we get a complete list of character names, classes and who is running who? Since I don't know most of you, all of these darn elvish names are making my poor warriors head spin.

Topic: An Evil in Orlane Subject: The lack of rats
Oriel stands in the semi-cricle around the basement door with the others, with his bow in hand and an arrow nocked, drawn and partially aimed towards the door.
When Gunther leaned towards him and asked about the lack of rodents he considered his new friends observation. Gunther seemed to be right. But what did it mean? Was the mess simply too new? Was somethng hunting them? He wasn't sure if it was signifcant or not.
Oriel leaned a bit towards Gunther and whispered,
"Good eyes Gunther. Your God makes you observant. There is nothing to do about it now - just keep your eyes open."
And with that Oriel focused on the doors in front of the group.

Topic: Duel II AD&D Thread Subject: Kicking in Doors
I can think of few ways to make more of a racket than having some big guy beat in doors. Do we want the advantage of surprise from a door flying open with a big bang? Or are we concerned that such noice will alarm anyone and anything behind either door or down any tunnel?
I'm thinking a bit more subtlety might be in order. Do we want to blast it open if we don't need to do so?

Topic: Duel II AD&D Thread Subject: Behind Door #1...
Ok, Trip's post clears up part of our next task.
I think all that is left is to nail down how we open the door - where people stand. I guess I'd suggest a big guy do it and the rest of us stand in a semi-circle to be able to act collectively if needed, but I am open to suggestions from those who have opened cellar doors before.

Topic: Duel II AD&D Thread Subject: Group 1 and the stench
Well, that was a stinky boring mess. Perhaps 3 casks of wine would make for an entertaining evening?
Ok, beyond that . . . the doors are the obvious next move. I'm ok letting Sentinel continue to post - especially since we probably want him to check the two doors for traps. Perhaps we should check both doors for traps - and perhaps also have Oriel take a close sniff next to both doors - although it sounds like that is fruitless. Then we pick a door and go through.
What's the best order for that? The big guy Deathstalker leads the way? Or Gunther? Oriel and his bow? How do we want to light it? As a non-infravision human, Oriel will want the lantern (fewer jumping shadows than the torch) lighting the way. The rest of us can sort of stand in a semi-circle around the door as it is being opened.
Also - did we officially search this dump for secret doors? I think we intended to do so, but I'm not sure it was ever formally mentioned in Trip's response. (Trip - did we do that?)
Also, did we notice if the door down here looked like it was burst damaged by being opened from the bottom or from the top? I'm not sure if this was ever asked.
Lets get the next post up and keep things rollin'...
