Subject: Searching

Rhyson has already been posted as searching the room.

While I don't think we want to go through the doors until people are healed, I do think we want to put someone near them ASAP - including a peak through the gap. If the doors are ajar there doesn't seem to be much chance that something on the other side wouldn't have seen or heard the sounds and sights of combat. But we do want to be prepared in case someone is approaching - there is no reason to let someone peak through the door at us.

Ok guys, anybody have a great idea about what to do about the fog? Zick could wave his little arms around and huff and puff and blow. But somehow I doubt that will do much other than amuse the crowd. At the very least, we could grab some branches and try to create just a little wind. Any other options? Then we start to search.

Also, do we have any sense if there are more bandits anywhere or was this the whole lot? There might be more information in the cabin, of course.

Finally - it seems I missed posts in two games recently - I'm on the site a lot, but somehow missed the posts on the latest updated lists and so got behind. If you ever notice me missing a post - send me a message. I probably missed things. I don't want to be the gjuy slowing things down and usually don't need to be.

Rhyson's post is up - he is looking in the rooms dark corners while the healer and injured do their thing. Should Lum check out the doors? Not go through them, but keep an eye on things from this side.

One battle survived. Well, sort of.

Subject: Ooops

Sorry guys, I somehow missed the last posts. I thought I was up-to-date on this game and I was one post behind.

Trossach would be ok moving on after a short rest or taking a long one - he isn't injured after all. However, if the elf wishes for his companions to be buried he would very strongly desire to fulfill that wish. This doesn't need to be a great, deep, grave, but it probably would take a little time. At the very least it might necessitate a long rest.

As for the elf - if he wants to join us Trossach would be ok with that. He would find the desire to leave to be likely foolish, but it is the elf's choice. He does, however, need to answer some questions first. Group - do we heal him more thoroughly if he is coming with us?

For the DM: Are there rocks around? Specifically medium sized rocks that would be fairly easy to move and put on top of a grave to prevent animals from easily digging in?

Also - forgot to put in the post, but Trossach would include any elves that became zombies in the burial. I assume we were right in thinking the fast zombies were elves.

Subject: A Mul ponders the possibilities

As the last of the zombies fell, the Mul moved down the hill to check on his companions. To each he expressed his appreciation for their courage, talent and desire to aid those in need. "I did not expect you to charge, but I will be proud to stand with you."

As the group worked to heal wounds and move the badly injured elf to the top of the knoll, Trossach looked at the fallen. He spoke so his companions could hear, "I would not leave the fallen like slaughtered beasts. They were not beasts. And we do not know how the injured one will feel about them. I would not leave your bodies around, and I would hope you would not do so with mine. I shall lay them out at the base of the hill together. We shall see what the elf has to say." And so Trossach moved to do exactly what he said he would do.

(OOC: The other questions all come first and Trossach's question may be of no importance at all depending on how the elf responds. But at some point in the conversation he would ask how the elf wishes to deal with them. If he wants them buried, the Mul will want to oblige - this might necessitate a long rest.)

As the second bug collapsed to the ground, Rhyson watched as the groups healer rushed to do what healers are supposed to do. He could only hope it worked. Such arts were not his to command.

But what he could do was to make sure that nothing snuck up on them. He took out his light and quickly scanned the dark areas of the room - was there anything that had escaped their attention as they launched their assault on the door's guardians? Once he had made his examination of the dark corners he moved to the doors, anxious that nothing come at them from that direction.

(OOC: Depending on how long other actions take - Rhys would also examine those doors. Are there windows? is that how the light is coming in? Are they open at all? Can he hear anything on the other side of the doors? Alternately, if Lum or someone else goes to those doors, he will take up a position by the stairs to keep an eye out in case anyone follows them down.)

Subject: quorum works for me

As much as we can, we keep things moving. When RL intervenes, we pause. That is the advantage of such games. If possible, post your pause or just "go ahead." If even that is more than you have time for, then so be it. We will survive, even if the firebugs do not. I hope.

As for the quorum idea, that works for me. As long as the general plan of attack seems obvious, keep it moving. In a situation like this, it really is pretty obvious what we will do.

And . . . liking it so far. Rhsyon isn't dead yet, so that's a good thing.

Rhyson could not help the grim smile that crept across his face as his chain lightning spells struck home. He had been sure lightning was the answer against these foes. He was as pleased about the value of his knowledge as he was about power of the lightning. Power and knowledge were a dangerous combination. He hoped he woild have the answers in the future as well.

But future encounters were still in the future and they were not yet done with this one. But it looked like they just might make it through. He would withhold his lightning for now to preserve mana. Instead he backed up a few yards to give himself some room to fire and perhaps safety from the bugs. From a bit of distance he prepared to cast arcane bolt as much as needed to finish the task.

Subject: What to do, what to do?

Zick watched as his bomb landed on the wounded monk. How much more could the thing take? he was bound, deaf and injured. If the fog hadn't been there he would have jumped in with his spear and stabbed the downed target. But for now he would leave that task for those better able to do so.

Instead, he quickly moved down the left side of the building. If there was a window he would be looking to target the with he suspected had gone inside. If not, he would move around the back of the cabin, continuing to look for a target or a window.

OOC: If he finds a window he will use a bomb on whoever is inside, if it is possible. If there is no window he would move around to the back where he would obviously come across the baddy back there. His first move would be to use a bomb. If it looks like he can get a sneak attack from the back he will simply do that with his spear. Otherwise he does have another thunderstone.

Subject: The actual "a bit of character" post

So, I have no name for the character yet, but...

I'll do more of a write up when the time comes, but a few more expected details.

He is an assistant professor of History at the local College/University. He is around 28 or so. He grew up in the town and got his undergrad degree at this school. (Ties to the town) He went away for grad school but came back for his first teaching job. He field is medieval studies.

I assume it will be easier if he is not married. Something happening to a wife could be what gets him involved, but probably not. I think something happening to some students in his department is a more likely scenario. I suppose his family is local, although I don't know how much I want a lot of family. It seems easier in a situation like this if his family is limited. But odd uncles could tie into story parts. As could high school friends.

He could have either an apartment or a small house - maybe the old family home. Maybe his parents died in an accident a few years ago - that perhaps wasn't an accident, but something that originally got him into the supernatural - if the story has us with a bit of experience at this sort of thing. Or maybe that is something that is revealed later. He would have connections in the community. But maybe a reputation he'd rather not lose as well. Not sure about that last part.

Well, at least you can see the kind of thing I'm thinking about.

Leaning towards the name: Henrik Castelbrandt. A good Swede by descent. Friends just call him 'Castle.'

I don't know what to say about the system - I'll go with whatever because I am completely ignorant.
I'm ok either knowing the others before hand or not. I can work with either for my story - it just changes when the "starting event" happened.
I think that the DM should generally set up the "how we meet scenario" - otherwise as Bromern Sal said, we end up spending a lot of time just trying to get things moving. I think with a bit of structure provided for the meeting we would still have all the space needed for character development.

I agree with Ody. Saurian

If Saurians were one of the traditional powers in the world and are still significant today, it seems like that is a good language to know. We don't have stuff like Troll and goblin, but we do have Orc and the darkspeech (Not quite the right name, but something like that.) This gives us most of the old langauges, most of the big racial languages and a couple of dark ones.

Subject: A fiebug hunting we will go! A hunting we will go!

Rhys nodded at the plan. If it took the bugs a while to get their fire ready Rhyson thought he might have gone with the original plan - attack from the side. But it probably wouldn't matter. Either way, he knew he was the key to the plan. He knew the elves had always used lightning to take these things down, but how quickly would it work? How many shots could they take? That was the question. He hoped this compatriots blades could add to the damage, but these bugs were heavily armored.

So, knowing that above all he needed to keep the lightining flying, Rhys planned to make sure that Lum was always between him and the bugs. That should give him the time to rattle off lightning blast after lightning blast.

Subject: I'm in

for starters, as I said I really am open to whatever the DM throws at us in terms of system or general style. In a game like this I would hope to do a lot of writing/roll-playing. But I would normally just do that and fit it into the combat, explorations and general freaking out. (Running around and yelling, "Scooby Doo! Where are you!" and all that . . . hey, can I have a dog? A big great dane?) So whether or not you make it a dungeon crawl or an RP narrative I'll do some RP. I suspect we want some of both, but consider me flexible. There is a point at which getting lost in puzzles gets hard - especially when we are trying to do communication on message boards with once every 3 days post from some people. (Not complaining about that, it is just in the nature of the beast. Yeah, that beast. The one that will be haunting us. Anyway...) so at least some dungeon crawling might be good.

As for a character - I'm probably thinking some kinda academic sort of fellow. I'm not sure about much more. Could be a grad student. Could be a young prof. Could be someone a bit older that has had experiences. Not sure yet. But a nice sports coat with elbow patches. Always wanted one of those. Maybe kinda crazy curly red hair.

I'll try to glance at the pdf so I have a clue about what a character is, but no promises.

What is the point of this sort of thing if you can't have a little fun? It is all in good fun. Besides, calling someone mythical isn't a bad thing, is it? As the MTG reference indicates, being mythical is akin to being valuable and rare. Like Browns wins.

Oh, sorry about that.

But, yes, I did pick the Browns. They are at home against a Raven team I don't think is very good. Oddly losing RGIII might help them. And they do have some talent, don't they? I wouldn't call this a pick I'm confident in, but they aren't going to go 0-16. I think. Cowboys might.

No, wait, I didn't say that.

I'm not sure this is the place to put it, but Rhy will hit with chain lightning once. Then he will either use it again or shift to a straight lightning spell. He'll keep pounding until they are dead.

Other than Old Elvish, I'll get you languages soon.

Sounds good to me.

Rhys is willing to try the sneak plan. If the bugs react before he is at 20 yards he will just cast the straight lightning. And after the first spell he will need to just hit one per turn so as to avoid the others with the chain lightning.

I'd put a little space between us to avoid having multiples get caught in the fire. But if the heads are that way, I'd approach as Ody drew it. Fire from one is probably better than attacks from both with mouths and claws. Plus, maybe if Lum swings from the back he'll get a bonus.

On the subject of languages, I'm sure Rhy would know Old Elvish.

And comments on the game itself

I would assume we will take a bit of time to rest, clean off the zombie gunk and let the elf wake up. Then we talk to him and see what he says - where'd the zombies come from, for example. What made his fellows go zombie? Did they make any attacks that worked on the zombies? What does he want to do? Morrigu probably shouldn't be prominent in the questioning. After that we probably move on towards the ruins. I might suggest a nights rest before moving on if we have enough food. That would heal our wounds and renew spells.

If we Post general actions and questions we might ask together we might be able to go through all of that in one weeks postings. Otherwise it might take a few to talk to the elf. It probably depends on how talkative he is. I'm more than willing to take the time if he'll talk, but don't want to slow things down overmuch if nothing will be forthcoming anyway.

While I am all for my characters getting rewards and becoming uber-powerful, that is not needed. Coming back and getting killed for using magic would be a bummer, but learning to live in the environment is part of the game - just make it reasonable and we will have fun with it. It is all good so far.
