Topic: Slate: The Hundred Years of Rain
Subject: A journey continued

It seemed that the group was in agreement that the feral couple would join them. Although they weren't eager to go to Pike, the two did seem to realize that it was a better option than joining the remains of their comrades outside the shelter. They had been the lucky ones of the group.

Daxos watched the pair a lot during the journey. They seemed a loving couple that had suffered a lot. But they had also contributed to the suffering of others. They had attacked Dax's group. He couldn't help but wish them well. The world needed more, not less, people. And it needed people that could love. But it needed people that work for all, not those who would steal from others and leave them to die. What type were these two? As they traveled Dax stayed fairly near the couple. He tried to talk to them - in particular he wanted to know how they survived in the wild. Where did they get food? Water? Was there enough shelter available? Where? What sorts? He knew he wouldn't learn how to survive as a feral in one trip, but he had a suspicion that such knowledge might come in handy sometime.

As they approached the town of pike Daxos saw the ladder up to the docks. There should have been water. The world told them all of the time that it had changed. It never let them forget the catastrophe. But, the world persisted and so did Dax. He followed the group up the ladder and looked at the impressive walls of the city. Did ferals really believe they could take such a place? He had seen defenses before in his scavenging trips through the ruins near his hometown. He was curious how those of Pike would compare upon closer examination.

"Halt who goes there!" The cry came from above as they approached the gate.

It was a classic call and even made Dax grin a bit. Stereotypes were alive and well in Pike it seemed. But it didn't seem to be his place to answer. He paused and listened to hear how the clerics would respond. Time to see what Pike wanted to do with its future.

Ok, folks, what do we do?

I assumed we shut the door and stay for the night at a minimum.

Do we:
1. rest for the night here hoping ghosts stay at bay.
2. head down the stairs?

Trossach votes for the stairs, but wouldn't argue with a group decision to rest - as long as we had multiple guards.

For the DM:
1. Did the elf see the tower when his group was this far before? We saw it from where their packs were.
2. Do we have a sense of the number of zombies?

Subject: And now a step down into darkness

Trossach looked around the old guard room, not surprised, but not pleased at what he found. The look was right, but the metal was a surprise. How could it be that nobody else had ever removed the metal from this place. He thought he knew the answer but turned to the elf and asked anyway. "your group, before you were attacked, did you see this place? It was visible to us from that location."

And the memories . . . clearly Ochit had experienced something similar as well. "Yeah, Ochit, I saw it also. A tomb? A prison?"

At that point the sound of the zombies intruded again unto his consciousness. "Lets hope this isn't our tomb." With that he stuck his head outside to see how many of the dead were headed this way. (Assuming he sees a lot.) He pulls his head back inside and says, "Ochit, like it or not, help me shut this door and bar it. Someone get light." (If there is an obvious way to bar the door he does so, if not he would try to improvise something.)

"Ok guys, assuming that holds, do we rest our weary bones here for awhile, or go down and see if there are any more active weary bones down those stairs?"

Saw the update and will try to get in an update fairly soon. Gotta think what to say and do. Any suggestions from the rest? It kinda feels like we will be waiting on the priests and the towns reception of their message. But it is our job, perhaps, to help give that message. Who is the logical spokesperson that isn't a tiny little guy?

Of course, Zick will be here. Love the character and love the group.

No idea about a sub-class. That will take some thought.

Very sorry to lose you in this game Shieldwolf. But sometimes life needs to take priority. Best wishes. We will see how the DM wants to play this.

A Q for the DM: The zombies outside, do we have any sense of their numbers? They aren't fast so I would think we could have looked around outside. Essentially, how deadly does the threat outside seem to be?

Also, given the comment about metal weapons - this was the world where metal was really rare, right? Just checking to make sure I'm keeping groups/games straight. Assuming so, are the weapons in usable shape? Also, is metal valuable - as in, could we take the iron/steel to a blacksmith who could forge new/non-rusted weapons out of it?

I like the idea of advancing to Pike, but whether you do that or just leave it where it is - just put in a post to let us know where/how to pick things up again. Even if it just repeats previous information, it provides a starting point. But moving on to Pike is a good idea.

Two other questions from the firebeetles.

1. The bag that was stuck to the firebeetle- did we have any guess about how long it had been there? I think it was stuck on with blood and such. Any guesses?
2. Fire beetles. How long do they live? Would we have any guesses as to how long they could stand guard without, say starving, or whatever?

Rhyson crawled under the eyebeams that Tomiki had spotted. He was trying to look carefully everywhere, but he wasn't sure he would have spotted them on his own. He liked having skilled companions. How often did he say that to himself?, he mused.

"Be careful, it doesn't seem likely that there is anyone alive in here, but you never know. More likely, there could be a live wire or some such thing." At that point he grabbed a bit of trash and tossed it lightly a bit higher on the pile to see if it reacted in any way. "Also, when you get up there - if there seems to be nothing to worry about - see if you can see anything in the ceiling. If it is going to be so conveniently exposed for us, we might as well take a look." As Tomiki got ready to climb Rhyson inspected first the pile and then turned his gaze towards the ceiling. A simple HVAC didn't give much of a hint about what this place had been used for.

Trossach looked at Ochit as the group started walking towards the tower. "Don't know, Ochit. I think that will depend on what we find when we get there. I think for now the plan is no more complicated than walk and keep your eye out for the walking dead."

Subject: For what it was worth, this was his home

Get gone or stop a war? That was how Angel had described the situation and it did seem to pretty well sum things up. They could run for it. And in this case he would even have some friends to run for it with. He looked around at them. It was a good group in an odd sort of way.

But then he looked around him at the rest of the town. It was his home. Of sorts. He knew people here. Good people. Ok, bad people too, but also good people. And, well, people. Just people. Whoever had written those letters didn't seem like they meant well for any of these people. Not even the lion in the pink dress from the day before.

He looked at the others and then back at the Puppy. "Yeah, Savis, I don't know what any of us can do, but we seem to be in a better position than anyone else around us to do something about it. Lets at least see what the guard has to say and what other information we might be able to gather from our various sources and then make a decision. I don't know what I can do, but if there is something, I'd want to do it." He turned towards Lara. "Could you run that list of ingredients by me again? It sounds like some sort of magical or alchemical formula. I'll see if the master alchemist recognizes anything."

After getting the list of ingredients memorized, he ran off through town towards his guildhall. As he ran, he started to wonder about what sorts of things he should be preparing or buying for the next phase of life's little adventure. More bombs, that was for sure. He felt kinda naked without them. What did that say about him?

He grinned as he ran through the crowd. Life was getting interesting.

Well, that looks promising.

Whenever we start up Schnozz, I suspect you'll need to do another game post just to create a starting point - then we keep going, presumably from about where we left off. Gotta go reread some stuff. Acid rain, water, captured some couple, priests, some sort of utopia somewhere...

One more thing.
When Zick looks at the list of ingredients, do they suggest anything alchemical to him? He would also bring the list to the master alchemist to see if he saw anything.

1. Since nobody questioned my splitting of the loop, I guess I'll assume it went that way. Speak up if not.

2. For the DM - did Zick have time to replace all of his various bombs, tanglefoot bags and thunderstones? By replace I mean make them. The bombs especially. If needed, he could buy the others.

3. I'll try to get a post up shortly about Zick's shopping list. It probably won't be long.

4. Probably not much to post until we hear from the DM about Lara's checking the underworld and what the guard said. I was thinking we might go monster hunting, but that might be on the backburner now.

Trossach looked at the tower as it emerged from the dust storm. He didn't like the ash flying around. It was uncomfortable and felt dangerous. He remembered the words of the elf about black stuff coming up from the ground and now here it was swirling all around them. No, it didn't seem to be the same thing, but how would they see the one if surrounded by the other? And such dust/ash storms could be lethal even if they didn't conceal zombies.

"Shelter is good. I suspect this flying ash affects us far more than it does a zombie that no longer makes use of its lungs. The tower is undoubtedly dangerous, but no doubt we would go there in the morning if we didn't go there now. And yet, if we go there now it may prove to be of use as a shelter. It seems unlikely to be more deadly now than it would be in the morning. I vote for the tower tonight."

Alexander Castlebrandt sat and watched as the event in the Owl unfolded around him. He watched as Norman was removed. He watched as some people reacted to his removal and others didn't. He watched as a young kid wolfed down a plate of food and then went positively white at the mention of the man in white. (Now, that was interesting.) And now he watched as a preacher started to talk about prayer chains.

He sighed inwardly. These types of meetings brought out all sorts - from professional ghost hunters to adrenaline junkies to anything in between. His interest was both personal and academic. There probably was a bit of the personal for everyone else here as well, which explained the strong reaction to comments like Normans. As for the minister, Castle preferred it when someone other than a churchman took the lead. It wasn't that he didn't believe, he had seen enough to be very wary about expressing disbelief, but he wasn't quite sure what he believed in. No single creed had yet flung objects at his head like, well, like something else had. And he knew he doubted the ability of a prayer chain, whatever exactly that was, to solve the problem.

He was tempted to get up and follow Norman. If the meeting turned into a prayer meeting he'd do just that. But for now he stayed to see what would happen. Besides, he wanted to talk to a few of the people who had shown empathy for Norman. He wanted to know what they had seen. He suspected he could find the biker and Norman later if he needed to do so. He did hate to lose the kid, who he suspected he might never see again . . .

(Castle will try to seek out some of the sympathetic types - most likely the young people talking about the high school - in quiet corners when things settle down. He would ask about the valedictorian.)
