A brief introduction to the Cidal Rogue named Bou.

Kidalbou Shaharion Gelion Duilwen Halbarad Greenpath the Tower-Scaler
(Keey-dall - boo)
"Bou" or "Boo" for short

The names are all connected to ancestors who went out and saw the world (adventurers) that Bou respected. Thus on his naming day he choose a collection of names - not unheard of among Picks, but not common either. He occasionally adds additional "unofficial" names to the collection to commemorate significant events in his life. Everyone in his Ham was very happy when he made it clear that despite the long official name, "Bou" was the name he wished to go by on an everyday basis. It is also the only name that belongs to no one else.

Appearance: At first glance he is certainly a Pick, but on closer examination it isn't quite so obvious. But he isn't really a Loaven either. If a Loaven is ½ Pick and ½ stump, this rogue looks almost ¾ Pick and ¼ stump. There is clearly some stump there, as the wavy hair indicates, but not enough that the untrained eye would notice.
3'9" Tall, with long hair that is a light brown. However, it has a fair amount of wave to it. It isn't really curly, but certainly is headed in that direction. His skin complexion is fairly light, but as if he had a light tan. Again, "pickish," but not quite. His eyes are very blue.

Bou may be a rogue, but he is not a common thief. He is chaotic good in alignment. He is curious about everything. He wants to travel the world, see everything, and make a difference. Doing something worthwhile is very important to Bou. He knows he is neither a warrior nor a mage (and let's face it, cleric was never going to be an option for this boy) so relying on his quickness and wit seemed the best path to adventure. He is quick, smart and charismatic. He always seems to have fun and so do those around him.

I will get an intro post up on the game thread with the basic idea that Bou arrived in town fairly early in the winter and got stuck here just as the others did by the season. He wants to travel and adventure and this group and the caravan seem to be a good place to start.

Just n FYI, the character thread is still under the name Putnam. It is linked on the game thread, but not the Q&A thread. Or maybe it is the other way around.

I shall offer up an intro to a Cidal thief in a bit. I'll post on the game thread, but also here for a bit more background, assuming Bou has been around for a bit of the winter.

Well, that explains why I haven't seen anything and why this new thread was popping up all the time. Ok. Missed the name change. Rogue will be ready soon.

I don't know anyone personally, so haven't heard from them.

Also, I still need to get the character info on Jarenion at some point.

Well, with a little reading the choice is obvious. A Cidal rogue is exactly the sort of character I was envisioning. Chaotic Good. He isn't a thief at all, just extremely curious about everything. He wants to know what is inside everything, behind everything and over every hill.

Subject: Hey! Look what I found!

As soon as they landed, McGuiness joined his fellow Ye Olders in gathering together their chutes and other gear. But he always kept his eyes on their surroundings.

He considered standing guard to be his duty. He was the sniper, not the commanding officer, not the doc, not the spook expert and not a demolitions man. Keeping his eyes open is what he did. So while the others finished the last bit of unpacking and dealing with the gear he wandered the edge of their landing zone, looking for anything, or anyone, of interest.

What he found were some tire tracks. They looked new to his eye, but he called over the others and Rat confirmed his diagnosis. Perhaps they weren't far behind the coven. Time to catch up with the bad guys. Or bad gals. Whatever they were, if they were aligned with Hitler, they were bad.

As Corban waited for the captain to issue the order to move out, he continued to closely watch their surroundings. Time to move out . . .

I'll go with a rogue. Although we do seem to already have a fighter/thief - so could change it.

When do I need to get things figured out by?

So, I did look a bit under the Audalis tab at the top of the page. Where would I find information on the races? I found lots of other cool stuff, but not that.

The sniper could, but a splatter shot weapon like a shotgun seems like a waste of his skills. Rat might me a good choice for one.

I haven't looked - how good with a weapon is Star? A shotgun might be a good weapon for someone without a lot of weapons training. (I don't know if that is a fair statement, but I seem to remember something about her not feeling like she was really military.)

Not so worried about the world - will just need to check on races. An Alacrity run game is always a good one. And 1E and 2E goes back a ways, which is good for me.

I am interested.
I could be any class, although I tend to avoid clerics. I haven't done much with Audialis so would need to read up on races. If one of the races Is gnomish I'd probably go rogue, but am open if so so e else has their heart set on it.

Looking back at the game thread it looks like one character ran ahead and the rest waited in the tavern for the group to assemble. Given that situation, it seems obvious that once all are present we would head for the clawed upon gates as fast as we can. I think it would be safe to assume that and go from there - unless there is a reason to delay and go through another round of posts inside the tavern.

4 of 6 players posting.
Should we recruit 2 replacements if the others don't show? The elf and gnome seemed to work as a pair.

Subject: Private McGuiness ponders weird weapons, weird critters and Weird Wars

Private McGuiness ran for his bags hoping to get a chance to look at whatever equipment might be provided. When he arrived a bit later at the plane he was pleased to see Darling holding a couple of shotguns and a duffle bag that evidently carried shells. "Not my weapon of choice," he thought to himself, "but a good weapon for the circumstances."

Hearing about the salt loaded shells he smiled again. In the few minutes he'd had he'd gotten information off of some other soldiers more versed in the splatter-shot style of weaponry - and it seems salt shot was pretty much worthless. Except, of course, for ghosts. And that was the point. Now they'd have to decide who carried them. He didn't think he was the best choice. He could shoot one, but the rifle was his tool of choice. The up-close splatter didn't seem to require his aim. A waste of his skills, perhaps? Well, he'd have to see how the group wanted that to work.

And a couple of flashlights for light. Now that was an odd weapon. But weird times call for weird measures. Or weird critters call for weird weapons. Weird Wars call for . . . well, something like that. He grinned at Darling as he helped load the gear - "Let's go get Boris Karloff - again."

Subject: Nomad/Jarenion Have posted

So, I got a post up so things can keep moving.

I have read the 4 pages of game posts so far, but not all of the Q&A posts - a lot of those seem to reference things related to conversations that probably took place in messages and are thus confusing. At least to an outsider. But the situation in the game thread is pretty clear.

I could really use a simple list of who is who. Who runs what character - race - class - gender. Heck, when realizing people were in rooms based on gender I wasn't even positive if I was running a male! (I think so) So a little guidance would help.

Also - Hammer, it seems from one of your in-game posts that your character and Jarenion have a bit of history. Is there anything specific I need to know about?

And now, lets figure out why somebody is screaming.
(Can we tell the gender of the screamer?)

Subject: Jarenion moves swiftly, but not too swiftly

Jarenion woke to the sounds of banging and a scream. The scream yanked him awake in an instant. His first thought was of the cleric - what had Danon gotten himself into? Going off alone, well not quite alone - and that was the point! - could make for some very enticing times, but also grave danger. "Never split the party!" was an ancient bit of wisdom that had been pounded into his head, but somehow it just didn't work when night time trysts were involved and blood wasn't flowing to people's heads. "Damn! What did that cleric get himself into?"

But even as the thought sped across his mind, the mage realized that the cleric was likely not to blame for this intrusion. The noise and cry had come from downstairs and he didn't think it had sounded liked Danon. But whatever it was, it could clearly not be ignored.

Jarenion hated acting without the others - it was rarely wise for anyone, and almost certainly unwise for a mage, to charge ahead while the warriors donned their armor. But since he did not need to don armor, he was always the quickest to prepare in such situations. And so after jumping up from his straw pallet, Jarenion made sure the others were up and offered an extra hand if needed. Being the first to prepare, he moved to the door where he paused and listened. If he heard nothing directly outside, he opened the door to try and better hear what was happening downstairs.

(((Jarenion gets up and grabs anything he might need. Assuming there isn't much he can do to assist others, he listens at the door and then opens it a crack. If it seems reasonable and the others are almost ready, he would move to the top of the stairs, but NOT down them. He wants information, but not to expose himself without the aid of the others.)))

Subject: Let the light shine on a salty shotgun blast

Private McGuiness liked the information they had received. Going in already know a bit about how to fight these things would help a lot. He'd heard about Carter and the King Tut stuff - curse and all. (He must have learned something in Mr. Dahl's history class!) At least he'd heard what the public was allowed to hear. He needed to know it all. Too bad it didn't seem like there was much more.

"Sir. Thank you for the information. That will be very helpful. You said ‘extreme trauma to the head' for the lower types of undead. Do Carter's notes make mention of whether or not a single bullet is enough? Can I pick one off with a well-aimed bullet? Or will that take multiple bullets or a shotgun? Or do we just not know?"

The sniper paused for a breath and added, "I don't usually use shotguns. Do they need to be rigged in some way for salt? We need to get some shotguns, salt shot - and regular shot. I'd imagine a shotgun blast might be a good way to generate "extreme trauma" to the head. Anyone know if salt shot will do the same damage as regular shot? It would be nice if we didn't have to reload for different critters. And what is the most mobile way to generate a lot of light? Anybody here know this stuff?"

As the captain ordered them all to get ready to depart, Corban couldn't help but wish for a few extra minutes. "Cap'n, sir. My bags basically packed and ready. In 30 minutes is it possible to get our hands on some shotguns and shot - salt and regular? I'd love to blast a couple sandbags before we leave to compare the effects. That report gives us an edge, I'd sure love to maximize it."

After hopefully getting a few quick answers Corban ran to get his gear. It didn't take long. He'd been expecting another mission on short notice, so he'd kept it packed. But he really wanted to make sure they had the right equipment. And while he'd used a shotgun before and seen its effects, he'd never loaded one with salt. He wanted to know how it was done and what the result would be when the trigger was pulled. "Prepared" and "alive" were two words that seemed to go together in the military, especially in Ye Olde military.
