I loved the WWII Horror games Alacrity ran (Hint....) and this seems fairly close. I'd love to give it a try.

As for rules, I have no ideas about rules for something like this, but I wouldn't let that stop me. In general I let the DM worry about that and just tell them what I want to do and then find out if they can. It works since the DM generally rolls the dice. Only spells (which won't matter here, I suspect - for the characters anyway) and character generation really require more.

So count me in if you have room. I'm willing to wing it.

Subject: Elvish problems

A few thoughts on the last post.

Do the elves know who we are if they wanted to tell the Templars? Since they spoke to us when we were all commandeered, they have at least some familiarity. Plus, with an Orc, a huge Mul, a Thri-Kreen and a drow, I doubt we would be hard to identify. So don't count on secrecy.

What would you do even if we did stop them? We fought to save them, would you now kill them? Hold them prisoner? threaten them? Other than talking to them to convince them that Morrigu is trustworthy (And who amongst US believes that, let alone convincing a group of ELVES to trust a drow!)what else could we do anyway?

Would the elves want to join us in going on? I doubt it. What DM gives his players extra NPCs? What elf joins with a drow? So is there anything to gain by chasing them? The injured one might join us - with his friends gone he would have to make his way back on his own, which seems a very risky proposition. Especially since he is injured already.

I suspect we are stuck just going forward and we will deal with the elves and Templars when we return. There may not even be a problem. We did, after all, save their lives.

Subject: Arrows, Arrows and more Arrows

Trossach watched zombies continue to fall and continue to explode. If he needed any more evidence for why he was on the top of the hill, this was it. He had no desire to be coated with zombie juice.

And so the big warrior continued to rain arrows on the zombies. While they may not be the most effective weapon against zombies, they clearly did do damage, especially when lodged in a zombies noggin. And so he fired.

But he also used his position on the top of a knoll to keep an eye on the entire battlefield. Where were the elves running to? And the one that had been bitten, what was it doing? Was there a way to remove a zombies curse or was that one destined to rise as one of the undead?

The one key for chain lighting is that I suspect we don't want any of us within that range when the spell goes off or they might get zapped as well. So spell, then Lum charges.

As for the light, interesting idea since they do glow. But most critters can see in the dark better than we can so I doubt we gain that much, especially since taking out the light gives us away to begin with. Do we even have a way to do that?

The Elves are escaping to the east - is that towards the ruins or back towards the town?

To the group- we don't really care about the elves escaping, do we? The goal was to save them and we have (or hopefully will soon) done that. If we need one to talk to we have that in the one Doc is saving. I would say ignore them beyond watching where they go and get on with things. The only issue I see is if they cause the crazy lady trouble when we get back. Spells and all.

just a thought, but if someone here is manufacturing this darn bugs, we might want to be careful about making too much noise at the front door. Rhys really needs some kind of support. We also need to be clear for the DM - are we moving down the steps? Is Lum charging? How far away are we?

Anybody have a way to help Rhy stay concealed until he is close enough for a chain lightning spell?

Subject: Firebugs - Isn't that fun

Rhyson looked down into the chamber at the big orcs warning. Firebugs. Creatures/machines of war. Hard to kill, meant to kill. And new? Newly created? He hadn't realized anyone was still in the business. That wasn't a good thing. It also said something very odd about this facility. They had power -literally electricity, but also some significant abilities. The group would need to tread carefully. And blowing the door guards didn't really sound like a sneaky way to get in.

"Newly made? If someone here can do that, we might not want to be blowing up their front door. or back door. or whatever this is. They obviously knew this door was here, even if we didn't until Lum took his fall. Going in sounds good, but going by ringing the doorbell doesn't. Anyone have any ideas about how to get around them quietly?" When nobody immediately offered up a solution, he continued. "Ok, I do have two lightning spells which should be effective. Lets get some bonus spells going and then do what we can. But I really don't know how quickly the spells will take those things out, so I really need some kind of support in this if you have any ideas."

OOC: When the group launches their attack, Rhys will use either lighting bolt or chain lightning. If he is over 30 yards away it will be lightning bolt - he will need to move up to 30 yard distance. If within 2o yards he will use chain lightning.

Subject: Beetle Bugs

Rhyson knows some history of the bugs, but basically for this it comes down to 1. they can shoot 20 yards and 2. traditionally elves fought them with lightning.

Conveniently, he is a lightning mage. He can hit either one or both with a lightning spell. But to hit both he does have to be only 20 yards away. And the other issue is that I really have no idea how much damage they can take. 2d6+willpower is the damage for the spell. We have quite a bit more HP than that. These things are the size of a pinto. I doubt they are 5 HP critters, although I'd be ok if they were.

So, Rhyson bolting the things seems obvious. Any ideas for the rest of you? Since we can't drop rocks on their heads, is there any way to poor water on them? (There is such a thing as a water mage, but Rhys isn't one of them.) Water might affect their fire or have an impact on the lightning. But from the little we know of these things I don't think we want to get into a fist fight with them. Only one of us being able to do much seems like a bad idea.

I guess I just assumed the deadline was game time. My bad. I'll do better in the future. Speaking of future picks, I need to make some. Time to go look at the schedule.

And at long last, for your viewing pleasure, I present the picks of Nomad - each of them presented well over 5 minutes before game time. (See, improving already!)

Sunday
Jets
Eagles - Goin' with NDSU's own Carson Wentz! Yeah, yeah rookie and all that. But he was a Bison, and do you ever really want to pick a Brown? Just sayin'.
Chiefs
Ravens
Raiders
Packers - Sad, but likely true
Vikings - who is at QB?
Texans
Falcons
Seahawks
Colts
Giants
Cardinals

Monday
Steelers
49ers

Rhyson did know a little.

Range of Beetle bugs - about 20'. or was it yards? Crap. Gotta check.

Rhys' lighting spells should be fairly effective. But that still doesn't mean I know how many it takes to fry a fire bug, just that they probably are affected by it.

If we want to stay at a distance if possible, Rhys has his spells. What can the rest do? I like the idea of dropping stuff on them if possible. Big stuff.

What about the following questions?rnrn One more question - I'm not quite sure how far down we have gone so far. Is this right below the "entrance?" Are they located in such a way that we could dump something big on top of them from above? VW Beetles do crush, after all. If it explodes, you should have described it as a pinto. rnrnI'm just not quite sure of the special relationship.

Rhyson really isn't all about offensive firepower, despite the various posts assuming so. He just isn't a pure healer.

He does have lightning style spells - those are the bulk of his offense. Think lightning bolt and chain lightning. 30 yard range on the bolt, I think.
He also has air abilities - wind gusts and hearing voices on the wind type stuff.
And he can give bonuses to friends and hurt enemies - on ability rolls and stunt rolls - I'm not even sure what stunt rolls are. I'm assuming it is the type of spell to cast before combat or some other type of attempt to give bonuses. For example, he might be able to do it now since there seems to be some time before combat starts. But he only has so many mana points, or whatever they are called.

Well, yeah, give it a roll. For Rhyson as well.

Plus, one more question - do we have any idea how far they can "shoot?"

Subject: Baby Rhyson takes his first steps into the abyss

Rhyson moved along behind Lum as the group moved through the Rust Wastes. The wastes were strange - part wild land, part city, part storehouse of the past and all untamed. "Once tamed" he thought to himself. Once these were homes and shops and schools. It seemed odd. And now they were the homes of rabbits, rats and raiders. And the source of his income. He actually liked the work most of the time. He needed time to figure out life and this gave it to him while letting him explore and develop. Plus, he got to do it with some interesting people. Given where he had been a year or so ago, things could be much worse.

And, of course, they could get much worse very, very quickly if he didn't keep his mind from wandering.

And suddenly things did get worse, as the big orc disappeared into a cloud of dust and down a hole. As one the group moved forward to assist Lum if he needed it, but Rhyson was cautious. The situation smelled of a pit trap. And where a pit was set to catch the unwary, there might well be others ready to pounce on those who offered help. So he scanned their surroundings as he moved forward, with a spell ready on his lips.

But while there was indeed a pit, there didn't seem to be any trap. Infact, Lum stood just a bit below them and had found an interesting entrance. Metal stairs headed down into the darkness. Down was not Rhyson's favorite direction. But it looked promising and this was exactly the sort of thing they were here to find.

He moved forward and headed down with the others, getting his light ready as he went. But the sense of a trap didn't leave him, and he kept his eyes open looking to see if anyone was watching their descent until he disappeared below ground.

Lead on big Lum, let us see what is down here.

Thursday:

The rest will follow as soon as I get the time to even look at the schedule. The only one I know for sure is that I will pick the Vikings even though I have no idea what to think about their QB situation. But suck it up and pick them, they have a few months before the heart break really hits.

Subject: Thoughts

BooBoo - A couple of thoughts on Rhyson. I wouldn't say Rhyson is "extremely talkative" (Not your words in the post exactly, but I want to be clear.) It is more that he is generally open and friendly. He isn't the taciturn sort of adventurer you can find.

Also, don't take the "doesn't like taking orders" bit as "doesn't play well with others." Actually, he works very well with others as a group of equals. If the group decides, he'll follow orders. If the orders are smart, he'll follow them. Just don't expect him to follow orders because they are orders. Or, at least, don't expect him to be happy about it. He is smart enough to still do so when necessary. Most of the time.

As for killing with his magic - yes, he will. However, he isn't really a wild flame thrower. He would recognize in the bandits and vagabonds the outcasts of society and feel a bit of kinship towards. Well, maybe not kinship, but understanding. Killing is not his first choice. But he will if need be and I wouldn't be surprised if you had seen him do so over the last year. But also probably saw him hold his hand.

Nothing is wrong with your post - it can stay as is in regards to the elf. I just wanted to give a slightly fuller description of the wayward fellow

Subject: What can a Zickerthorn do?

Zick watched as his companions but a dream web over the fog and some dancing lights within it. Now, what should he do?

OOC: Zick's plans are a bit dependent on what else is going on.
1. If the dancing lights outline shadows he will throw a bomb, hoping to hit all three and (If he can tell, he won't worry much about the one who didn't seem to take fire damage) light the web on fire.
2. If he can't see any real targets he will not just randomly chuck a bomb. He will use the wand to cast a heal spell on Savis and load his bow. He will hope someone else can use a conventional means to light the web.
3. Subsequent turns he will use his bombs if he can hit someone cleanly. If not, he will try to use a tanglefoot bag on the monk.

Well, precise bomb sounds like a good idea, once zick gets another discovery.

For now, we need a plan. That dancing lights spell might be a good idea - I like the idea. Zick will probably load a bomb in his bow. I suspect we want to stay apart a bit - we might have a round or two to plan while they do whatever they are doing. If Savis wants to move over to Zick he could get another dose of healing - we might as well take advantage of the foggy delay. Since Zick knows about where they are in the cloud he could probably probably get close with the bomb, but with only two left I think he wants to hoard them.

Subject: Rhsyon is getting there

Rhsyon Ezucarius of House Tandris

After working with Rhyson you have all learned a bit of his history. He isn't closed mouthed about his past and doesn't seem to be keeping secrets. He doesn't shout it to everyone, but those he has worked with know that he left the vicinity of the city of Vorakis because he stepped on the toes of some elite families. He arrived in town in the company of a young couple that found work with a local alchemist. That couple is human (Rhys is an elf) and clearly had something to do with whatever brought Rhys to town. There doesn't seem to be any other connection between Rhys and the couple.

For now Rhys is trying to figure out what to do with his life. He knows some magic (You know he has some skill in the areas of fate, air and lightning.)and wishes to increase those skills. But it is also clear to those he meets that this is a young man who has a problem with authority. He works with others very well most of the time, but does not seem to be a fan of orders - either giving or, especially, receiving them. You get the sense that he wants to "do something," but isn't quite sure what that something is.

As an elf Rhyson is an attractive young man who was clearly raised to have good manners. He has shoulder length golden hair and bright blue eyes. He is well dressed without being fancy. Again, it is clear that he has a knowledge of how the fashionable dress. His clothes and carriage bear the unmistakable signs of class and quality. And yet at the same time his clothes are actually quite simple and basic.

Subject: mattia and corners

Q for the DM: Ok, the female who moved around the corner went around to the left. I had thought Zick was a little off to the left - can he see around the corner at all? If not, would he be able to move a little to the left before tossing a bomb? If so, he would move to get a glimpse around the corner and then throw the bomb. If he can hit two he would throw it at those in front, if he can't and he can see and hit the one around the corner, he would do so.

To the group: We need to keep track of baddie #3. Zick might be in the best position to see her, I'm not sure. But if he can hit two, that is the best use of his abilities. Might Mattia want to move that way? Can he move and shoot on the same turn?

Subject: Two can play the buring game!

Seeing the youthful Savis engulfed in flames quickly erased the smile from Zick's face. His thunderstone had been effective, but he needed to do more. And with Savis out of the way, he could. He grabbed another one of his bombs and tossed it directly at the two that were left. He primary target was the spellcaster, but the monkish hobgoblin should take some splash damage as well.

OOC: As always, Zick looks to use his bombs - always aiming to hit two if possible, with the splash. HeHis #1 target is the spellcasting female, then the male. If that isn't possible because of others in the party being in the way. His second choice would to use his other tanglefoot bag (I think he has two, but it could be 3 - I'll look) on the monk. Using his spear is an act of last resort - if he needs to do so it will be against the spellcaster as he is pretty sure the hobgoblin is out of his league physically.

I may do that.

For now neither restarting nor a scan of the machine did anything. Love/hate these stupid things.

Brief outline of Rhyson - I have more written.

Minor noble from small town near the circles city.
Second son - magical, not the one to inherit.
Sees higher ranking nobles persecuting a guy he works with and his wife - interferes.
One does not mess with those of higher rank (Rhys hates such ideas) and he must leave.
Goes to Thay (Right name?) with the two he rescued. They find work in town at an alchemists and he makes his way to the Pegasus.

Do elves live super long in this world? Also, are elves common in the city controlled by the Circle? Are they different in any way given their lifespan if it is different?
