Subject: Little cabin in the woods

One quick question for our DM: We have been all around the cabin on the outside during the fight. Are there any windows on it or other doors besides the one on the front that the bad guys (and gals) came out of and that is covered by fog? Can we see anything through them? Zick would very cautiously peek if there were any.

Subject: To share the loot, and then move on.

(Post can be modified if Birdman wants to adjust anything discussed without his input in Q&A)

Zick looks at all of the items they acquired from the bandits. He loved potions. But he really loved permanent magic items. Like armor he could wear. He fingered the leather armor that was magical and looked up at the others. "Being magical, this should shrink to fit even my muscular form. A little protection would go a long way." He waited for an assent from the others before stripping the treasured defense from the woman. "Savis, if the others agree, why don't you take the ring of protection? You seem to be the one that is taking the brunt of the fighting and it might help." He looked up at Mattias as he said it and added, "I know this leaves you without one of the better items, but perhaps you could have your pick of the potions? And if there are more bandits, or maybe we go back and deal with that beast that was also mentioned on the board, you can have the choice of the next set of items? But this should not be decided without you."

Waiting for the Birdman to answer Zick added, "Since I'm almost out of bombs at the moment, I'll take the alchemist fires for now, if that is ok. Maybe later it will make sense to switch that if they don't get used. I'll also grab a couple of the lamp oils - they might work well with the fire or my bombs. The potion of invisibility would be my next pick of the actual magic items, but Mattias gets first pick there."

Once the loot was divided he added, "I'll take a few minutes and put on the armor - maybe the fog will have cleared a bit by that time. If not, we can always storm the castle even through a bit of mist. But lets move cautiously and look for traps as we go. There probably won't be one on the entrance - the others came charging out, but once inside, there should be any rush."

That split works for me.
Matthias should get first potion pick then.

I'm ready for the cabin. DM can post with that assumption or I'll post Saturday. Game posts are hard on a phone.

Subject: Scouting the room

Rhyson panned his light around the room. There would be a lot to look at here. And there was power. A blinking light, that bode well for finding more things of interest. But there was also reason to be cautious. Where had those bugs come from? Had someone put them there? Why? If there was power, was it in use by whoever controlled the bugs?

"Wait." He said before anyone entered the room. "Before you disturb anything, lets see if the dust has any stories to tell." And so he carefully moved his light around the room, starting with the floor. Was there dust? Was it disturbed? Where? As they entered he added, "look for signs of disturbance before you touch anything, especially around that light."

Taking his own advice, he moved cautiously into the room, looking around at everything and looking for signs of threat or disturbance. He moved first to the door opposite, taking the time to look for signs that it had opened recently and then listening at the door. Threat assessment was always the first concern.

Once he was satisfied by his investigations of the room, the elf moved to the cabinets. "Everybody should look at the controls, who knows which of us might find something we recognize. Once we are done here, who wants to help open the cabinets? Lets start with the one under the light. I'll open the doors if someone else wants to be ready in case anything goes bump in the night."

(OOC: Ok, so Rhyson does the following.
1. inspect the dust or anything else for signs of tracks or movement.
2. Inspect and listen at the door.
3. Look at the light and controls.
- first the one under the light. Then he'll start from the left of the door they came in and go around to the right, one at a time. Others may take part in this, but this gives us an order of operations. )

Subject: Magic crossbow

There is no magic crossbow - just one bolt/arrow with an enchantment on it. But if Savis can duplicate potions it might make sense for him to take some. He can really do that? Even Zick as an alchemist can't copy like that, although he can make some.

*Can Savis wear armor with his shape changing? Normally mages and such get protection rings, but if he is going to be our muscle he might need some protection.

What about the rest of you?

Zick would have no problem claiming the armor from the dead lady. He would put in a bid for the armor. Any rivals?

Subject: Magic items

I think Lara is the obvious choice for the bracers. I'm not sure what sort of armor Savis or Mathieu wear - this impacts their desire for the leather and if they are a good choice for the bracers.

The armor - Zick does wear leather armor, so he could use the armor. That is assuming a gnome can wear it.

The ring - the ring would also be really helpful. Zick would love it, but it probably goes to someone that doesn't get the armor.

Zick doesn't have a normal crossbow. Does Savis?

Q for the DM: Can Zick wear the leather armor is being gnome sized an issue?

Topic: Iron Age Q/A
Subject: Loot

We also need to deal with the following items:rnrnGiven his expertise in the matter Zick is quickly able to determine what the assorted potions and oils can do, announcing that all said and done the group had a stash consisting of 6 potions of Cure Light Wounds, 2 potions of Bull's Strength, 2 potions of Hide From Animals, 1 potion of Invisibility, 1 potion of Cure Moderate Wounds, 2 oil of Magic Weapon, as well as 2 flasks of Alchemist's Fire, 2 flasks of Holy Water, and 4 flasks that turned out to be ordinary lantern oil.rnrn

*I think everyone claims a potion of healing - with two getting two. Zick can pass on that since he can make such potions. *Potion of cure moderate wounds - I'd say Savis. Not Zick.
*Bulls strength - I say Savis is the choice for those since he is the one most likely to want to smack something physically.

*Potions of hide from animals - Who? Maybe not Savis and Birdman since they are animals of a sort? Would that make them more or less noticeable to animals? No idea. And no offense intended.

*Potion of invisibility - Zick would love that

Zick would take one of the Alchemists fires - maybe both right now while he has only one bomb left. Then once he is able to reload he can share the other one?

**I assume once we distribute we should go into the cabin. So the sooner we decide this the quicker we can get in the cabina nd find out what comes next.

Boo Boo - Sometimes it is hard to know when to offer personal information. The Inn has become a home for me - I play a lot of games here and feel like I know many of the residents. But not many people know that just under two years ago my wife passed away from ALS. Awful disease. I was active on the inn before her illness got really bad, then took some time off. I returned shortly after. It has been good therapy. Stay strong - and enjoy the games.

Well, I'm hooked.

As for this adventure - I say we search the room. Obvious, right? I'll get a post up this weekend with Rhyson looking around. Cabinets and such. Someone should listen at the other door. And, of course, check out the light and control panels - power is a good thing, or so we hear.

Rhsyon listened with interest to Lum's history lesson. it was interesting.

"Lum, the story is interesting. But the old 8-armed orc must be dead by now. Genetically engineered doesn't mean immortal, I would think. So, who uses the brand now? Just orcs generally? What might it mean if it is here?"

he waited to hear if there was a response. There was no guarantee the orc knew the answer, and he would probably have told them already if he did, but it was worth asking. He followed it up by saying, "Lets open the doors and try to move into the next chamber. Lum - want to break off another leg? Maybe we can use it to wedge open these doors, just in case they want to shut on us once we are through."

Trossach looked at the injured elf and thought, 'this is a crazy way at playing at adventuring. These games kill.' But he didn't say anything as it was obvious that the elf was clearly aware of his and his friends mistake. Instead he spoke of their funeral. "I will take care of your fallen comrades. A funeral pyre it shall be. We honor them and prevent their from being taken by the dark land again. Rest and recuperate. My comrades fought to save you before, they will not want to see you fall quickly." With a smile at the elf, he moved off to deal with the fallen, offering a grim smile and a thanks to any that assisted him.

They first gathered some wood, since the bodies were already piled. Then the pyre was set alight. It didn't take long. They young elves (Well, for elves they were young) were gone from the world. It was such a waste.

With that act done, Trossach moved back to the rest of the group and prepared to move out. They needed to find the supplies that had been left behind by the elves. They would prove very useful and were conveniently on the path they needed to follow anyway. As they prepared to move out he spoke to the elf again, "Stay behind me if combat happens. Use your bow to support us, but in your injured state you don't want to get to close."

Three more questions for the DM:

1. Did we notice anything on the way down the stairs that might have been another entrance? Was most of the climb down done in darkness so we wouldn't be able to see? Was the stairwell, too big to see across? Are we talking about climbing the sides of this room, but not the stairwell?
2. Are the walls rough enough that climbing seems reasonably possible?
3. Rhyson looked around the room in his previous post. Am I right that he found nothing? (Beyond the eggs)

Subject: Messages, eggs and heat, oh my!

Rhyson examined the room around him while the healing was done. There wasn't much of interest in the rest of the room, although he wondered what might be found by going up.

He joined the rest of the group examining the eggs. When asked to get the message bag, he did so carefully. Were the legs of the beast hot? He cut it free carefully with a dagger. He prodded it lightly with the weapon to see if he could feel anything on the side - without breaking anything that might be there. Although he doubted the bag received gentle treatment from the bugs. He opened it carefully, wondering just what would be kept on the leg of a firebug.

As he did so he spoke to the others, "Be careful with the eggs. Lets remove them from the heat. That will likely kill them. Then we can check the bag. After that, can someone shoot one with an arrow? I agree that a sword might put one close to an explosion- bad idea. But I'd like to see what is on the inside of those things. It shouldn't be a firebug. If an arrow won't work, maybe there is something around here we can toss on it. But I'm curious." With that he turned back to the message bag. "And is anyone good at climbing? I'd be curious to see if there is an alternate entrance for these bugs. But I doubt I can climb well enough."

Subject: And now what?

Well, if the elf says, "burn 'em" then that is what Trossach would do. The bodies should all be piled near the base of the hill. So, a few questions:

1. How long will it take Trossach (with help?) to burn them? Would this necessitate a long rest?
2. Am I right that our path must take us across the dark lands?
3. Ask if he is a bard. When he fights is it with blade or bow?
4. Does he know anything of our objective?
5. Did I understand correctly that he thinks that not all of the walking dead followed them? So there will likely be some of those in the vicinity of the packs?

To the group - if the "burial" doesn't require a long rest, it would seem that going and fetching the backpacks would be a good idea. Maybe depending on if the zombies are likely still around. Trossach would not be ok with the idea of robbing from others.

Subject: That puppy would be wagging his tail if he had one!

Zick smiled at Savis' "we did it!" comment. The young shape changer had a lot in common with a real puppy. You could just see the excitement vibrating through the young man.

Zick returned his smile. He understood. He had been looking for some excitement and adventure and he had found it. It was thrilling. He didn't like the killing, exactly, but it felt necessary. Certainly he felt no sadness for the hobgoblin, although he couldn't help but wonder about his scars. What had created this creature?

But the gnome still didn't have time to sit an contemplate the meaning of their first victory. He looked at the rest of his new-found companions and said, "As the Pup said, 'we did it." We make a good team. But now we need to search this area. I'll stand guard if some of you can haul the bodies out of the fog. I'd do it myself but there are some things gnomes aren't good at. Once we finish that search we can all check out the cabin together." Then he turned to the young pup, realizing as he did so that he had accidently voiced the nickname of 'puppy.' Ooops, he thought making sure to use his name this time. "Savis, you are probably the strongest of us - care to take on the role of mortician and haul out some of the bodies?"

(Assuming the others agree . . . )
As the others worked on moving the bodies out of the fog, Zick held a position on the edge of the clearing, just inside the woods, attempting to keep his eyes on every direction at once - all the while humming "bring out your dead!" to himself as he stood watch.

Subject: Patience

Ok, fog is just fog. It doesn't hurt or anything. As long as the DM has generously told us we are safe for the moment, lets take advantage of that. (Under normal circumstances I'd be much more cautious - especially about being out of sight of each other.) It will make everything go faster.

Zick's suggestion - move all the bodies out of the fog and into the clear air. We shouldn't have that much trouble finding them and moving them. Even thick fog is just fog and in a relatively limited area. We haul them all out and then search them - using detect magic on the whole lot of them.

Then we can all go into the cabin as a group. Sound good?

Zick will stand guard during this process - although he is strong of heart, he is just a little gnome in a big world after all. And he would be about as effective at hauling around bodies as he would be at huffing and puffing the fog away. The Pup and Birdman probably get most of this work.

As for the saving throws, I offer another possibility - perhaps Zick is just such an amazing alchemist that his tanglefoot bags are super strong. Keep this in mind as in the future perhaps others should be given a negative to their strength checks to break such a miraculous substance.
