Subject: Around the country in 15 days?

That is quite the itinerary. Just be careful. There have been sightings of a strange man in white. He has been known to cause people to behave strangely and to get into car accidents. If you see him, reroute your trip another way.

#%^#@! He'd missed the longboat.

But no matter, it would make a return voyage. He didn't like just walking out into the open, so while he waited for the boat to make it back to the Dog and unload its cargo he scanned the shoreline. Was there any action? He kept his eyes open for anything out of normal. He had no reason to suspect anything was amiss, but when your profession was "pirate" you were always a bit wary when ashore.

Or when on the seas. Or when awake. And especially when asleep. Or when breathing. And if you weren't breathing it was probably because you weren't wary enough.

So he looked around. And he actually did have reason to be wary. If the law was looking for the Dog's First Mate, then it might take an interest in anyone heading toward the ship. Pirates loved meeting the law. He frowned a bit and looked around.

(Assuming nothing of note is seen.)

When the boat had made it back to the Dog and Shark Tooth and the other passenger Cracker watched for a sign of the boat's oarsman moving back to the vessel. Seeing sign that he was ready to return he moved out onto the sand and approached the place where the Dog's sailors had been dropped off and picked up. You knew you were a sailor when you looked forward to getting the boards under your feet again.

Subject: Of course he follows!!

Castle was surprised when the man/creature indicated he should follow. Of all the possible reactions, that was not one he had anticipated. He'd expected flight and feared some subtle attack. He had not expected this. Leaving the crowd seemed dangerous, but this silent and secretive thing had made no threatening moves towards anyone yet. And seemed to have offered some information. Perhaps there was more. Just his identity would seem to be more.

All of these thoughts ran through his mind in the second it took him to nod his head in agreement. He quietly slipped out of the room and down the stairs, following the thing. Strangely he had no trouble following. He had half expected to lose him half way down the stairs, but he didn't. He had no trouble seeing him and following in his wake - a near invisible tide that moved others out of his way. They went to the back door and out into the night.

The alley was dark and filthy. It stunk of garbage and puke, like most alleys behind urban bars. The strange man/creature turned to him and spoke.

"You... You can see me. Why?" The man asked in a nervous voice. It was quite gravely and rough"

"I don't know. It isn't easy. Who are you? Why can't others see you?"

"I'm... no one. Just looking to fix up this neighbourhood. I've been doing research y'see. On this.. person. the man in white." At his last words, his voice lowered to a whisper. "Go see the pastor. I gave him all the information I have.".

The comment on the pastor seemed be a prelude to leaving, so Castle quickly spoke. "The Man in white. I've seen him. Others here have as well. It is why I came. It is why you came." He paused only briefly for the last line to register. "Clean up the neighborhood? How? If you don't mind my asking, why you? For that matter, why any of us and why this neighborhood?"

Alexander Castlebrandt allowed the other a chance to respond. He had plenty of more questions if the man would just stay a little longer.

When the man moved to leave he quickly made one more comment. "Please. You know more than the rest of us. If we are to do something, your continued help would be very valuable. If you won't come back in with me," and here he gave a slight nod towards the door, "is there some way I could contact you? My name is Alexander Castlebrandt. You know who the preacher is. You can reach us, but is there a way I could find you?"

He hated giving his name. His involvement in the occult was not something he advertised or that his employer was likely to support. But somehow he doubted this man would be running to the University to tell on him. Risks balanced with rewards. Right now the problem was that he had no idea how big either was.

(OOC: Other questions he might pose to the man if time and behavior seems to allow:
*Is the man in White causing these things?
*Why would he do it?
*What is your connection?
*How does he do this?
*Is there a way to stop him?
*How did you end up this way?/Are you human? (Only if it seems appropriate. He would not push this.)
*Have you seen him elsewhere?
*is his area of activity limited? Just this neighborhood?
*What can we do if we see him? How do we avoid being victims?
*He will share what he has seen so far if it seems appropriate so that he gives as well as receives information.

When the conversation is over he will go back inside and upstairs. When the preacher is no longer surrounded he will approach and ask how things went. After a little preamble he will ask about the letter. He really wants to see what is in it. If need be he will reveal that he saw the person who left it.

Also, I assume the kid stays hidden during the conversation. If he spots the kid he will talk to him. What are you doing here? What did you hear? Does it sound like anything you know? He would not chase the kid if he ran. But he isn't happy about the possibility that the kid overheard everything, even if he isn't sure why. He would likely see the kid as someone in trouble and in need of help, not a threat, although he would be cautious about a robbery.)

Subject: A broken world filled with broken people

The Fixer watched as the pair moved into the other room and got too his feet. He didn't regret taking a knee. This wasn't about pride, but about results. And she had noticed his act. If she turned out to matter it was a planted seed. But that seemed unlikely. Instead she looked like another broken person. This world of acid rain, crime and filth didn't just attack a persons physical well-being. For many it also attacked their soul. Maybe for the queen it was about alternate realities, but why did she need an alternative so badly? Thinking of the rain drizzling down, it was easy to see the appeal. Which didn't make it any less sad.

When the husband returned Fixer was standing and waiting. He'd been tempted to move to the computer and see what it was doing, but there hadn't been time. Instead, he looked around the room for any other signs of technology. Was the good-man being watched or were there signs that he was watching someone else? Was there tech of any sort laying around?

As for the conversation in the room, when the husband returned he spoke briefly. "She seems lovely. I'm sorry about her condition. It must be hard to keep up with it all." Again, sometimes being kind could help, so why not? After that he would see how the groups mouth-piece, the Crooner, would handle things.

Cracker's walk slowed a bit as he came to realize that he had no idea where he was. He was on an island! How hard could it be to keep track of the sea?? He finally came to a stop in the middle of a pleasant little courtyard. The place seemed peaceful and appeared to have all those features that make the land home to many. But, alas, he was not here to find a home . . . or even the lass that had worn those knickers . . . he smiled as he glanced at some of the hanging laundry.

Shaking his head he looked up to the sky. He knew which direction the harbor faced. If he could see where the sun was he should be able to tell which way was South.

(OOC: Even at 2 p.m. the sun wouldn't be directly overhead, I'm guessing. I'm also assuming that an experienced sailor would know in which direction he was sailing as he entered a port. The sun might give him a direction. If it does, he follows that information. The following is assuming that for some reason he is unable to determine the whereabouts of the sun or identify its significance. Likewise if there is an uphill noted in the next paragraph he would follow that information.)

Unable to get enough information from his celestial guide, the sailor moved on to the next most logical method to locate the port: water runs downhill. Coastlines were always downhill from towns. This was for the simple expedient that towns preferred to be above the water in stead of under it. Clearly the two hills would lead him uphill and away from the port. That left two other options. Opposite directions, of course. Did either give a hint as to altitude?

No? Then he sighed and glanced around for someone to ask. He hated asking directions. He wouldn't have minded asking for directions in London or Paris, but getting lost in a town of this size for an experienced sailor seemed embarrassing. But he'd have done it anyway had there been anyone around. (Assumption from description that nobody is.) If the choice was a little wounded pride to a stranger or facing an angry Cole because he was late getting back to the ship, his pride could survive the sting.

He glanced quickly each way, sniffed the air for a hint of the sea, and headed to the Right. It was right, after all, right? He enjoyed the sense of the land under his feet and headed off, doing his best to keep his eye out for the sun, signs of an uphill climb or a likely person with whom to speak.

Subject: what the Hellfire happened?

After the first mate rounded on him in a fury, Cracker paused for but a moment and nodded his head. He had no idea what had just happened. Hellfire had always been full of brimstone, but what the heck had brought that on? Something, clearly, had happened. But he had no idea what.

What he did know was that he was headed back to the Sun Dog. He quickly looked at Sharky, nodded his head towards an alley and headed off that way at a trot. He quickly slowed down to a quick walk to better blend with the crowd. He was no longer chasing the first mate, nor trying to keep up with her, so there was no need to run. He was just headed back to the ship.

He was heading back to the ship and puzzling over what might have happened. He'd been ordered not to speak of it, which wouldn't be much of a problem since he didn't even know what "it" was. But apparently the first mate had run afoul of the law. Clearly she didn't want the law on the Dog's tail. And those had been soldiers or guards he had seen earlier headed towards the docks. That was probably all about Lady Cole. But what had she done?

Lost her temper, that was what she had done. Cracker was not much of a gambler, unusual for a pirate, but he'd have put a pretty penny (or whatever poor pennies he could actually put together) on the fact that someone had stepped on that pretty red-headed temper. Some idiot probably tried to treat her like a lady, he thought with a bit of a grin as he moved quickly down the road. He continued to keep his eyes open for information - either about the ships in port or his fiery superior officer. He whistled a bit as he headed back to water. Sometimes life amused him.

Alexander kept going, trying his best to be inconspicuous. Alexander lingered by the stairs for a moment, keeping watch from his periphery, when suddenly, 2 red eyes locked onto his. Alexander caught a good long glimpse at this creature underneath it's scarf. Its eyes were big and red, the flesh of his face looked torn and horribly disfigured as well as his nose was nothing more than a swelling lump on his face. As he looked at this creature, you saw there was no hint of malice within it's eyes.. no it just looked like they were surprised.

Castle looked at the 'creature?' in front of him. Despite the red eyes, he felt no real sense of malice. Somehow, he had the feeling that thing was surprised and, if anything, scared. Was it on their side? He didn't know.

"Who are you?" he whispered, but with the creatures eyes locked on his he was sure it understood. "Please, don't run."

(OOC: Obviously exactly what the thing does will determine Castle's next move. If he just leaves Castle will watch him go as long as possible, trying to learn as much about him as possible. But he will not give chase. Then, after the rest of the crowd thins out, he will approach the pastor. "Pastor, I want to speak to you about that letter you received . . . "

Cracker continued to run along with the other two once he had caught up. Something had them running and he was pretty sure that his arrival wouldn't be cause enough for a break and a party.

With a glance at the first mate, he spoke between breaths as they ran, "Sir., a report once we pause." He looked around him and at where they were headed. "Are we goin' back to the Dog?"

Fixer moved along with the rest of the group. His part was tech. Walking through the rain was apparently his crap as well. Everyone's crap in this century. He hated the rain. Everybody did. But what could you do? At least it made the inside of a building feel nice, even when it stunk, which it invariably did.

And this teacher's complex was no different. It stunk. And it had guards. Guards who were nicely armed, but didn't seem to do much actual guarding as the heavily armed group was shown politely to the elevator. He couldn't help but smile behind his mask. Who exactly would they stop?

Arriving at Carey's floor they approached the door and allowed the crooner to do his crooning. Mathis just leaned against a wall and kept an eye on anything moving on the outside. There wasn't much he could do about getting into the room at the moment other than eavesdrop on the big guy. Which he did. And Sinatra did his job and they were in the room. The guys gun was not a part of the plan he liked. But he stood to the back and listened.

And then the queen bee entered. He jumped a little, but kept his composure. The woman seemed more'n a bit crazy. And the crown was worthy of the streets. But she seemed harmless and might be the key to getting Carey to put the gun down and take his meds. And Fixer didn't wasn't sure the muscle in the group understood what it meant to kneel. So he took it on himself to see where things would lead.
He stepped forward 1/2 a step towards the "queen," just enough to no longer be in back, and dropped to one knee, slightly dipping his head with and said, "you highness graces us with her presence."

And now all he could do was wait to see what either the queen bee or the teacher would do. Sometimes in the quest for information you had to do weird crap. Call this weird.

Fixer quickly put together the walkie talkies. It wasn't a tough job and it wen t smoothly. Before long he had a pile of wiped clean communication devices in front of him. He looked up at his compatriot who had asked if was done and nodded. "Yeah, easy peasy. I could use somethin' burgerish. Lets get to Gene's."

The pair quickly moved off to regroup with the rest of the party. On his way out of the mall, Fixer dumped the waste scraps and wrappings from his work in a bin. It wasn't about littering, the whole damn world was one big pile of stinky litter these days. He just didn't want to leave any trace.

When they got to the restaurant he took his seat and responded to the table waiter, "fastest burger you got. With cheese. Fries and a coke." He turned to the one person at the table that he hadn't seen before, nodded, and greeted him with a causal, "welcome to the party." He didn't bother giving his name. He rarely did, besides the guy certainly already knew who he was. And all he knew was that the guy was named 'credit-stick Charlie," or some such and came via Sarlight. Whatever. The game was about to be afoot.

He handed out the walkies and they all agreed upon a frequency. He listened to the others talk about the plan. He was interested, but didn't have an opinion on things. Nor had he brought a car, so that didn't matter much, although it wasn't a bad idea.

Subject: Was that a flash of Cole Red?

Red catches his attention as he passes between buildings. Not the red of blood or the bright red of a dye, but the red of a fiery woman's hair flowing from beneath a broad brimmed, dark colored hat. Pausing, Cracker can't believe his luck. Down a short alley and across the busy street he has just left, and then through another short corridor, William is sure that he's just witnessed Maggie Cole pass by in the opposite direction followed closely by Shark Tooth Stryker!

(Assuming "opposite direction" means they are going the opposite way Cracker is - back the way he had come from. If this is wrong then this needs adjustment - he is trying to catch them.)

Cracker caught a glimpse of what he was sure was a Cole and a Shark headed in the opposite direction. Spinning quickly on his heel he dashed back the way he had come. Running down the alley and chasing the others didn't seem likely to work, especially with the crowd on the other end of the alley. But since the road he was on was lightly travelled he could move quickly. If he retraced his steps quickly and then cut towards them he would likely run into the pair.

(If he does meet them he would approach them and address the First Mate. Or course, if circumstances surrounding them are a bit crazy, he might have to figure that out first.)

As a life-long Vikings fan I don't know how to explain what I just saw. The entire game was completely according to the script that has been established through 57 years of Viking history. They proved they were a great team in the first half. There have been many great Viking teams. Then they managed to piss it all away. They had the Saints down to a 4th down and 10. But gave up a first. They gave up a blocked punt. That is so Vikings. Seriously, if you aren't a Vikings fan, you don't know. New ways to lose in excruciating fashion - it is the Viking way. The Vikings lose games by giving up plays like this. That is how they lose. Not win. I really don't understand what I just saw. But I saw it. I think. Are there illusions in football?

Skol!

Subject: iQuality Parts

Fixer didn't particularly enjoy the ride to the mall. Public transportation wasn't very comfortable and was filled with far too much public. Plus, it smelled. But it got you around.

When they finally arrived at the mall he went with the rest of the group to the iQuality store. Nervous habit had him always checking out his surroundings and always thinking about how tech could help him cover his movements. That was part of the idea for being here now. Cover and communications. So once inside the store he quickly moved to the communications department and came up with three options.
1. Store bought walkies
2. Home made walkies
3. Store bought cubes.

He liked the cube idea, but was always more comfortable with something home made, so he preferred to make his own. he quickly and quietly gave the group the options and asked how many they wanted. "One a-piece" seemed to be the answer, and he got no argument over his plan to make his own equipment. With that he stuck out his hand and said, "Ok, pony up then. $65 NCU each. If there is any extra I'll split it back."

Cash in hand he quickly made his way up and down the roads and grabbed the pieces he needed. This was followed by the purchase. Now he just needed a good place to work. He didn't like the idea of sitting in the middle of the store and working. The last thing he needed was for someone to question if he had purchased all of the pieces he was using. There were times when it was best to not attract attention. Actually, that was almost all the time. But right-now certainly qualified.

(OOC: Assuming this is a "mall" as I know them - and thus that there are some places outside of the stores in the halls between stores. I'm also assuming that in the mall there will be benches or some sort of place to sit, the more out of the way the better, but likely in the middle of the mall. If I'm wrong I'll need a bit more detail.)

He returned to the group with his gear. "Ok, I've got what I need. I don't want sit here and work on it, but we need to be here for the meet-and-greet. I'm going to go out into the mall to play with these parts. It'll only take an hour. one or two of you should come with me. Nobodies alone, and we stand out a bit less when not all clumped together like a little army." He looked around, "who's coming with me?"

(Assuming someone comes with . . . )

Fixer moved out into the mall and looked for the most out-of-the-way spot to sit and work that he could find. Quickly finding a seat he set to work, letting the others with him keep a look out. He couldn't ignore his surroundings, too much history made him always aware of what was happening, but he kept his focus on the task at hand. It wasn't a task that taxed his skills at all. He could have done this in junior high, in fact, he had. The memory caused a small smile to cross his face as he worked. But easy or not, he wanted it done quickly and correctly. And since part of the reason for working with parts was to make these things untraceable, he did his best to make sure that any identifying marks on any of the bits and pieces going into his creations was removed.

An hour later he had a pile of wiped-clean little communication devices. It was now time to rejoin the rest of the group, meet the new guy, and continue this little project.
