Topic: Wheel of Fate - Notes
Subject: The Outsider

Name: Izzy
Species: Human
Size: 155cm / 52kg (5'1"/115lbs)
Age: Early 20's/Late Teens

Physical Description
-Izzy is short and physically unimpressive, but appears clever, and adventurous.
• Short, brown-red hair, between unkempt and slightly curled.
• White complexion, light tan with freckled face.
• Basic clothing includes sturdy boots, skirt/shorts combo, shirt (tentative white shirt, brown open jacket), and backpack; perhaps a cloak. Clothing fit for travel in temperate climate.
• The goggles do something.
• Additional equipment includes thick leather gloves, padded torso armour, shoulder pads, and armoured skirt (notably apparent lack of head, abdomen, leg, or upper arm padding). Armour probably inscribed with runes. Maybe.
• Eyes? Probably.

Equipment
-Possesses a number of tools and items that she has imbued with magic herself to aid her in her endeavours. There is a non-zero chance that she has something stored in there to aid with nearly any situation, though the majority of the contents are miscellaneous scavenge, with only a few unlisted devices.
Leather Backpack - Pocket Dimension Storage (accessed manually for now)
• You have no idea how much junk she has in here.
• Neither does she.
• Armour (see above) (see below)
• Sword - Salvaged. Seems cool. May have powers.

Abilities
-Izzy excells in aetheric arts, with a wide variety of skills to choose from, however lacks self-discipline, and so her strongest abilities are an mixed bag of useful tricks and specially crafted items.
Aetheric Arts - i.e. Magic, manipulation of essence
• Kinetic Bolt (basic force attack)
• Subspace Gate (creates temporary door into subspace)
Armour
• When worn and active, enhances the wearer's natural aura shield.
• Emergency shield function (manual or triggered)
Goggles
• Do Something.
• Probably related to detection or observing hidden effects

-Probably despite focus on magical abilities, her actual grades in magic class were barely average or mediocre. Understood the basics rather well, but rather than practice her technique or pay attention to the assignments most likely got distracted playing with unusual applications of other spells. Contrast more highly disciplined knight friend who is quite competent and efficient with a variety of combat spells, but isn't as focused on exploring the curious intricacies of various spells.

Subject: The Small Huntress

Name: Kara
Race: Nargacuga
Element: None (Awakens as Poison)
Size: Gold Smallest
Rage Aesthetic:
• Red eye glow, as normal of the species
• Shadow petal afterimages while moving
Physical Appearance:
• 4'11 (Consider average Nargacuga size 6'2, take 7' as standard deviation - 5' results as 2 standard deviations away from the average -- Silver is 1 standard deviation away, Gold is 2)
• Permanent violet marking on her forehead, evidence of having graduated (also Mantle)
• Fur and scale tones match conventional Nargacuga colour palette

Notes:
• Being Gold Smallest, Kara is physically weaker than other Nargacuga, but she makes up for it by being faster, and knowing how to utilize her ranged attack option more than others
• Best in her class, despite her size - she has had to work harder because of her physiology, giving her fairly good skills
• Probably bullied, and always considered the undercat, at least until she kicked their butts
• Deadly dancer
• Usually doesn't wear clothing (culturally speaking, this kind of setting doesn't promote the necessity for clothing for non-Lynian races)
• Attack style is quadrupedal - often lands on her hands when dashing in order to land with her feet braced in order to dash again, utilizing her wings to glide, much like in-game Nargacuga, slashing with the wing blades in rapid attacks.
• • This is different than other Nargacuga Gijinka in that they're large enough that they can jump without needing to go on all fours to get power behind it, also a way they end up underestimating her, because she puts the force of her whole body behind her movements, not just her legs
• Consider: allowing her to Awaken to poison before Lucent to expand some of her combat options and style
• May or may not be a bit tsuntsun
• Can navigate the Everwood better than most, but still not the best navigator there
• Has avoided having a Lynian companion prior to meeting Izzy

Game Notes:

• These threads are generally for archive purposes, the actual game itself is probably best to be considered closed (at least right now) and closer to a collaborative story

Setting Notes:

The people:

• Humanoid monsters, primarily imported from the Monster Hunter series of games. Body style/shape directly corresponds to the monster's focus - bulky for brute strength, streamlined for speed, etc.

• 'Hands' are not necessarily humanlike nor conform to human shaped tools. Claws, talons, and fingers are all possibilities. Lynians have a distinct advantage here, having smaller stature and smaller hands, allowing for finer tuned work.

• Hair is not a universal trait. However, something vaguely hair-like often will be present, mostly serving as head protection - a headdress made of scales, etc.

• Unique physical characteristics of the monsters will generally manifest on the humanoid form - Brachydios's pounders, Gobul's lantern, Nargacuga's wing blades.

• Six-limb-manifestation will be averted unless the monster actually has six limbs (ie Alatreon, which is both quadrupedal and has wings). Rathian and Rathalos will look closer to harpies than humans-with-wings, Nargacuga's wings similarly are an extension of their arms, etc.

• Tails are yes - if the monster has a tail, the humanoid form will too.

• Legs can be either plantigrade or digitigrade, or absent in the case of snakes

• Humanoid shape does always not mean human stance when walking/sitting/etc - the stance will fit what the monster's shape is. Ex, top heavy Congalala probably has stronger arms and uses them more like legs than their legs.

• Lynians are adorbs. This is a rule of the setting.

• Average size (ie Great/Drome type) is about human size, bigger monsters are often bigger, but individual size variances can be significant between gold shortest/longest.

The main continent:

• There's a mountain range along the center line through the continent, roughly speaking, similar to rocky mountains. On a larger mountain near the center, called Wyvern Peak, is where Haven is, the capital of the Electrum Kingdom.

• To the north is the wide tundra. Because of the harsh living conditions, there's only a few settlements that way.

• To the west is the Everwood. Roughly the same as how the Everwood functions in MH4U, an eldritch place with paths seeming to change every day.

• To the east is the flooded and primal forests. The flooded forest opens up into a lagoon that connects with the ocean. A harbour here is a point of contact between Electrum and Abyssal kingdoms.

• To the south are the dunes. Harsh territory, homeland of the Black Brigade.

Subject: Auguries of Destruction - Wheel of Fate

The Everwood remained as enigmatic as it ever did, wandering paths changing day after day. Kara was no stranger to its chaotic and shifting nature. Yet, there were times when even the Nargacuga scout could find herself lost in it, if momentarily.

Today was thankfully not one of those times. She backtracked along her planned route, convinced that there was nothing amiss. Yet, things changed quite suddenly.

Ahead of Kara on the trail was a small, pinkish female creature not of any species of gijinka that Kara recognises. Her body was something like a Congalala, except furless besides the top of her head, and way too soft to be the flesh of any fanged beast, and she was adorned with cloth like a Lynian, and she appeared to be looking around for something. At least until she paused, and now appeared to be attempting to address the tree next to her. The human's name was Izzy.

Kara's surprise would have been very clear if Izzy saw her face. She could easily swear she had passed this way - nope, she definitely did. To get to the final point of the route on her patrol, she passed through here already once, and it was an otherwise linear path. Thank goodness the Everwood seemed to be in an agreeable mood... She sniffed the air, unable to place the scent of the creature ahead of her, before crouching down and suddenly leaping forward. She landed directly behind Izzy, nose pointed upward, sniffing.

The scent was stronger, but there was still no way to place it. It was an unknown, and that did not sit well with her. Izzy probably felt the air pressure from her sudden approach, but Kara actually didn't make much noise if at all.

The human girl stiffened at a sudden breeze from behind her. "Gah, what's with the wind in this pla--" She turned...

As soon as Izzy turned, Kara leapt to the side, following the motion of the turn, and making sure to stay behind Izzy, all the while sniffing the air, as though further exposure to the scent would somehow ring a memory of what it was, even though that was impossible. Izzy could probably feel the intensity of Kara's stare at this point.

Before Izzy could get a proper glance at the black scaled creature, it darted to the side, then around behind her again, sniffing at the air.

"Wh-what are... why are you trying to sniff my butt?" The girl managed to get off, turning to try to keep up with her.

Hearing the tone as more curious and questioning than hostile, Kara leaps once more, finally landing directly in front of Izzy, suddenly standing up to her not-so-impressive height, a few inches short of Izzy's own. She looked intently at Izzy, her head moving as she looked from a wide variety of angles... none of her features looked familiar. A hairless Lynian, minus the mane at the top? Seemed the most probable shape-wise, yet still, that scent... there was just no placing it.

Melynx eyes stared at the two of them from a distance, before digging into the ground.

The creature finally came to a pause in front of Izzy. Black scales, black fur, red inner ear markings, what looked like half-formed wings extending off the forearms. Then she stood up on her hind-legs, to a full height just under that of her own.

"Damn, aren't you a magnificent creature?" Izzy commented stepping back unconsciously to take in the whole sight of this beast that just appeared before/behind her.

Noting the creature's bipedal stance, the girl's manners finally caught up with her. "Err... do you speak?"

"What... ARE you?!" Kara just couldn't keep the question unspoken any longer, "Not-Lynian, Not-Congalala, and that scent... I got nothing and that is not right because I don't get nothing!" She huffed, "Amateurs get nothing. I am not an amateur."

It did speak. A lot, actually. She seemed perturbed.

"I'm, um, a person. A human person, that is. Female. Do you have no humans in this part of the world?"

Izzy continued stepping back unconsciously, just in case this encounter turned less friendly. Where did she leave her pack again? Her eyes refused to tear away from the creature.

"Hu-man? Hu-man." Kara tilted her head, clearly confused, "Strange word. Never heard of it. Is it a new Lynian clan? Maybe foreign? Never heard of a Lynian named Um before either." She replied, "Also haven't seen any Lynians taller than me. This better not be a thing now." She muttered the last sentences.

Topic: The Evil Best Left Buried
Subject: An eerie sense of familiarity, brushed away as the eerieness of the atmosphere

It was a simple truth, but one that wasn't a good one to face. Rae's armour couldn't protect her from everything. The weather was one of those things. She wouldn't consider herself comfortable, but she wouldn't consider herself all too uncomfortable either; she had endured worse during her vagabond days, when she didn't have armour to protect her.

Still, there was something about this that didn't seem right. Everyone was getting restless, nervous, wary. Talca's nervousness in particular Rae paid heed to. It was nothing spoken, yet, just the way that he kept looking around, taking care at being attentive to what was available to notice from their surroundings.

Yet, regardless of if the mist was right or not, they had a destination to reach, and wandering off the road in an attempt to bypass the fog could be more dangerous. Rae steeled herself, pushing that chill at the base of her heart away as she had done many times before. Yes, she was a bit scared. That was just her instincts warning her. Be prepared. Rae gripped the shield in her hand tighter as she saw figures up ahead.

"They walk strangely." Rae observed, "Perhaps an illness has pressed its advantage with the advent of this fog? Though for it to be so quick is peculiar."

It wouldn't have been out of the question. Cold and damp weather could often be preludes to illness. She had seen it before...

The strangest part, however, was that they were not looking ahead. Any traveler paying heed to their surroundings would show signs of awareness, some manner of looking about, because an unwary traveler is asking for trouble.

Perhaps it was the uneasiness innate to the atmosphere around her, or perhaps it was a sense of foreboding from the way the visible figures seemed to barely put one foot in front of the other as they walked, but Rae loosened the sword in her sheath, just in case. It would not do for the sword to be caught in the scabbard if the need to draw it arose.

Topic: Buried Evil Q&A
Subject: The Shield Maiden of Falloes

Name: Miraenya "Rae" Filythian

Race: Sylvari ( Please note that she generally hides her pointed ears by either headband or helm )

Class: Paladin

Alignment: Neutral Good

Physical Description: Rae does not hide her pointed ears to lie about her heritage; it's because she recognizes that a human in need would probably be more willing to accept aid from someone they at least think could be human rather than another race. She is still taller than most human women, but her armour and gear are of human make, further obscuring her race. Only the telltale grace and the angular features of her face give her away under closer inspection. Her earthen hued hair is cut short for practicality, and her almond shaped eyes are of similar colour.

Background: Hailing from the southern Sylvari kingdom, the house of Filythian was a noble house. That was not to say that they could be traced to the crown, but rather, the main branch had a long history of fulfilling the role of Councillor for their area. When the family merged with the Aethirnae line through marriage, it was seen as a bit controversial. The Aethirnae line was known for having strong warriors, not for their wisdom, and some questioned the decision on the basis of if warrior blood would taint the wisdom shown by the Filythian line. For Miraenya's father, this proved to be true. As Councillor, he was unfortunately known for having a short temper for a Sylvari, and prone to making whimsical decisions. It was decided that he needed to be removed from his position.

And so, in light of misfortune both political and natural, she left. Miraenya journeyed from her homeland to the White City. The journey was not only to put misfortune behind her, but to see for herself the innovations she had heard of in the City, and perhaps find new purpose.

As a Sylvari traveling through a Human majority, it brought the dark sides to leaving her homeland forward. Distrust, even bitterness from some strangers. In general, they didn't want much to do with Miraenya. But that suited her just fine, she didn't want much; she was just going from one place to another. She never hid that fact, nor the fact that she didn't have much to return to if she did turn back. It was a humbling journey, for one as comparatively old as she was to be so out of place, learning new customs, faces, and hearts.

Miraenya would often find more refuge among the religious from the more xenophobic populous during her journey. Recovering emotionally from her misfortune, she paid particular respects towards Lysora, Oriana, and Shinara. Prayer to Lysora, in healing her heart. Prayer to Oriana, to find new passion. Prayer to Shinara, for fortune in her journey.

Eventually, she was finally introduced, in a manner of speaking, to Falloes. Having avoided seedier parts of cities in order to avoid making trouble, where his ordinary looking temples commonly were, it was only when she first got to the White City that she encountered a practitioner. Or, rather, that a practitioner encountered her.

It was perhaps the lowest part on her journey. Miraenya was unsure of if she had enough savings to get by, having just been robbed of most of it, and was taking refuge at a tavern and conjoined in, sitting to the side, by herself. Suddenly, a old man in robes sat beside her. Looking up, she found his eyes bore her no ill will. He offered to lend an ear if she needed someone to talk to. When she asked why, he simply said that it looked like she was lost, or perhaps needed a friend. Miraenya agreed that it would be nice to have a friend.

It wasn't a long friendship, as the man didn't have much time left, but it changed her. Miraenya was no priestess, given the prowess of battle in her ancestry, so she took up the shield, offering her services to both Falloes and the Ertain military. Naturally, she was only kept as part of the reserves due to her race, but she didn't mind. Her life was renewed.

Personality: Although she retains a certain air of formality or nobility, she is more down to earth than the generally encountered Sylvari, another reason why she can be mistaken for human at times. Rae is warm and kind, in keeping with her faith and the shield that she wields. Yet there is also a fierce passion in her as well - the desire to protect and assist both her allies and those in need. That is not to say that she won't also wield her sword as needed, but that isn't her priority. She may be able to cut down evil, but her role is to protect others so that together they may be able to defeat greater evil than that which any of them may be able to do alone.

* * *

As a side note, I don't actually have her character sheet, and it's not likely Rae would have gone into all of the details of her background unless someone specifically asked outright. This is mainly because she focuses on the present and moving forward rather than her past.

Also wow, I didn't think I wrote quite that much for Miraenya, but when I compile it all together... yep that's a lot of text. For other players, please do not feel intimidated by the amount of text I have. I've always had a tendency to go overboard with designs, just ask Eol or Olan.

I did rather like how we ended up designing Rae, my shield-maiden, so I might reprise that role again.

Kyrie listened attentively to Beldame as she provided her own insight on the affairs. Kyrie might not have been the brightest sunstick in the box, but she knew one thing - trees were old, and if she knew Tiressia when the latter was young, that made her older than trees. Kyrie was taught to listen well to elders.

"Hmm, if something doesn't like a city as a neighbour, we should try to meet it and be friendly. I don't think it will be that easy, but I always try to be friendly first. You can't make friends by being mean first, after all," Kyrie observed.

It was that weird sort of Kyrie-logicâ„¢ that the party had grown used to, but at the same time, it was perhaps reassuring that she had always had that warmth and friendly approach to every encounter that they had, unless things were already too far hostile for it to matter.

Kyrie also added, "Thank you for your words. I'll remember what you told us. Mah'i and Mah'r always told me to listen to those who have been around longer than I have."

Topic: Butterfly Reminisces
Subject: Butterfly Reminisces

Several years... good grief has it really been that long?

I think I'm getting a bit sentimental, I've been looking at many of my old characters in these archives.

Star Wars: R2-F8, better known as Fayt, sarcastic little bucket of bolts that still did her best at helping her rag tag group of teammates. In retrospect, she retroactively bears some semblance to a certain jury-rigged droid from Rebels.

Star Trek: Rena and Ruea were definitely strong in their designs. One a workaholic obsessed with trying to reach that state of inspiration and euphoria that allowed her to reconnect with her sister, or so she perceived it, and the other strangely afraid of greater expectations and avoiding promotions, a lover of marine life and water in general.

D&D:
3.5e: I still have mixed feelings about Linnix, self serving rogue eventually turned faithful companion, thanks to her new sister, from Kaelyn's Forgotten Realms game. It was the very first game I played in on the inn, and she was not my character. It's true that I made her my own, but in the end, I never really felt like she was mine.
2e: Ah, Shianna and Rae, both made for a game based on the same module, but very different characters. A very wild child, cleric of nature, uncomfortable in 'civilization' and a shield maiden of the downtrodden, very similar to Kyrie in heart, whom Sib is very familiar with, but with no naivety of the world around her. Audalis was certainly a unique setting I had not known before.
Also Ocyari, way too young to be an adventurer, but snuck out to be a part of the group anyway. Hyperactive when young, mellowed out when older and after she inherited some of her inborn gifts...

D20: Cheri, a menome turned part cat through aesthetic modification, and exceptionally skilled with computers. A kitty set to inherit something that she certainly had no idea what to expect.

Witchcraft: Roseanne would fall here, but we might revisit her shared story soon...
Then there's Lily, self proclaimed human watcher caught up in over her fox head in shenanigans by Fate as it threw the supernatural world back at her, even as she generally avoided such things for her safety. Although, there's a possibility she might return...

Free Form (ish):
Elly, better known as Engie, steampunk mechanic runaway for the Dawn Falcon. No desire to be the noblewoman that her parents would have preferred her to be, instead always busy working on a gadget or the ship. Also explosions. A bit of a Spark mentality, now that I think of it.
Violet, a flying squirrel new to the greater world outside of the protection of the abbey, dislikes being on the ground, and loves being up in the treetops. A dangerous shot from high vantage points.
Luminia might also be listed here, but she might end up surfacing if a certain game happens, however likely that might be.
Annie, where Cheri generally stayed on the right side of the law, Annie certainly did not. Hacker able to traverse the boundary between real and digital, and sought out and caught by an unknown organization with unknown intentions. I did want to eventually find out at some point if their psions would actually be able to mess with her mind if she changed mentality to binary mode...

There were certainly more characters than that, but those are the ones that strike me the most, even now, years later.

In the end, I'm sad that circumstances resulted in these shared stories, among many others, not reaching fruition, but I'm not sad to have been part of it.

That being said, reading the archives I was part of, I notice that towards the end of that time period a few years ago, I flaked out in several games and also couldn't keep some of my RL feelings from affecting the character I was playing. I said it before, but I feel like I should say it again. I'm sorry to those GMs who were relying on me at the time, especially Alacrity, who I feel like I let down the most.

But I think that's enough reminiscing from this butterfly. Those are stories from the past, and there are stories yet to be made to do, eventually. Hopefully when this butterfly can make a stronger return.

Krog is after survival, which is quite understandable... and that is certainly a good strategy to do it with.

Kia on the other hand... she wants to win

That being said, it'll be difficult to choose whether she'd focus on the Training path or the Prestige path. Probably splitting AP between both, since she'll probably need the +hp... assuming she doesn't get herself killed right away.

The thing that amuses me is that the announcer is going to probably have to decide on a different title for her. Cautious? Maybe not as much as she should be, but leaving herself room to move seems like a necessity.

Oh, I just thought of a couple of questions:
  • For light's two weapon attacks every other turn, do both attacks have to be against the same target?
  • In a combination of light armour and light weapon, can there be movement between the two attacks?

Subject: Zuck - Kia - Back to the wall? Boring, and immobile

Kia held her rapier high in salute to the crowd, the needle blade a strong contrast to her tanned skin tone. A quick motion, before lowering it back towards the opponents. Wolves in this case. She paid little attention to the announcer, not even glancing in their direction at the incorrect name. The announcer was doing their job. Kia would do hers.

In the corner of her eye, she saw Krog starting to back away.

"Corner bad. Need to move. Still boring. Movement excites," Kia said, "Strike down fast."

Her sapphire eyes never left the wolves, quickly shifting to look at all four in front. Kia didn't know how strong they were, but Kia knew one thing - if she was going to gain glory, it wouldn't be by being a turtle. She didn't have the shell to do that anyway, but that thought didn't really cross her mind.

Kia stepped a bit closer to the center, not advancing too far since she wanted to get the first hit in, rather than the wolves (thinking P9). She kept the tip of the rapier low, pointed ahead at the wolves. She needed to see how fast they were, and if she could be faster.

(alternatively, if the wolves move first)

Seeing an opening, Kia lunged forward, blade tip following the beast's movement, and she tried to stab it into the neck or skull of the closest one, before disengaging to the side of one of her teammates if possible. Despite her size, she was trained to be fast on her feet, and it showed.

====

When attacking in single strikes, will be mostly alternating between basic and hard, so in terms of dice...
1-4 Basic
5-12 Hard

When double striking, however, will mostly be finesse
1-2 Basic
3-9 Finesse
10-12 Hard

Defense will always be dodge, since light weapon won't be very effective at parrying from what I saw

I think it would be okay in the same thread - just for formatting sake we might want to make sure that we include Zuck or Glut accordingly in our subject lines.

It's not too different from say in one of the games I first played in on the Inn where the party could be split up, and if that was the case then Kaelyn (GM) would have posts for '[Character]'s group' for each group. It also helped that I think there was never more than three groups at once.

Reading over the starting details, an individual came to mind, and I may provide her as an entrant to this, I notice that you have one group ready for play testing, so I will submit this as a backup/if you require additional testing.

Half Orc (Yeah you read that right) Female
Name: Kia
Weapon: Light - Rapier
Armour: Light - Treated leather armour, but not very covering at the request of her 'sponsor', so as to provide visual appeal to the crowd with her toned physique and athletic build. Leaves the legs and arms uncovered, mostly torso protection only.

Being a daughter to a noble can result in a spoiled princess, but such a life was not in the weave for Kia. She fell through the cracks of the scandal, adultery and racism that bore her and ended up being disowned from what her noble blood might have granted her. However, in the end, she doesn't actually care about that.

Her sponsor took her in, and saw potential in her as a gladiator. After all, half orcs could be quite strong, it was almost a no-brainer. It took a while before Kia was ready to actually enter the arena, not even including the time it took for her to be old enough; she learned slowly, but what she learned she retained very well.

Kia's own desire was to prove that she was not just some brute, despite her race. She choose the rapier as her weapon, and trained diligently with it. Precision over power, though power was not lacking given her body's natural strength. It would be a gamble, but her sponsor went with it. Anything that made her stand out more, to counteract the racial barrier that might make her not as appealing to the crowd. They were quite keen on getting a return for their investment, after all.

In the end, their relationship wasn't actually that bad. They wanted fortune, she wanted pride and glory. It went hand in hand.

Though neither would ever admit that one had become the surrogate parent that the other needed.

There is indeed a relation between good games and good members when it comes to games. As far as my activity has been, it has been incredibly sparse compared to how it used to be. Unfortunately, my current circumstances are very disagreeable, and not very conducive to a long game.

That being said, part of the allure of the newer multiplayer games may have to do with regards to set up, or lack thereof. The demographic that likes to work with the numbers and set up every detail on their character sheet might have diminished. A change in organization of games might then assist newcomers - perhaps the numbers intimidate them, or they do not know where to begin when it comes to staring at the empty character sheet in front of them.

This isn't something that every GM will be willing to do, nor even need to do, but if there is recruitment of the type 'you tell me what it is you would like your character to be', then the GM also gets the benefit of keeping some numbers hidden, which could help prevent power play that creeps into games now and then, at the expense of more work for the GM.

In the end, smaller games (in terms of the number of people) will be best to begin and maintain. It's certainly a thrill if you post a recruitment for a game and end up with a lot of players, but the balance between numbers and punctuality has to be taken into account.

I am honoured that you would include my name among the pillars you mention here, but that being said, I am also sorry to the GMs I have let down in the past. I'm not without fault myself in this regard.

I hope to be able to play more and return, but that isn't entirely up to me.

Kyrie seemed to have a look of recognition as Tyg went through alternative names of the place.

"Fair Lands? That sounds familiar. I could have sworn that one of my mothers used that name before to talk about a place. But if it's somewhere else, why would here feel like it? I mean, I'm pretty sure if this was the same place, a lot of people would know that," Kyrie mused.

After a moment, Kyrie took the opportunity to ask, "Did Lady Tiressia say anything about what it means? Unless suddenly this place becomes the same place as the Fair Lands somehow, and maybe even then, I don't know what that means for those that live here."

* * *

"Be good, okay kitty? No biting, no reason to bite, you can sleep now, it's nighttime" Kyrie gently petted the large feline while on the wagon, before they reached their destination. Sure she wasn't as trained to work with creatures as Zeran, but she still helped out.

But there was adventure to do and she couldn't stay to look after the kitty right now. As they reached the gate, Kyrie's head kept looking to the black bird.

"Shush," Kyrie admonished the crow, "I know I'm shiny, but you can't take my armour."

She looked back at the others, "Shall I ring the doorbell then?"

Fox nodded in approval as Zwei picked up the ears from the gob as they passed it. It was not likely that the gob would need those anymore, and it was free. Being a street urchin, she knew better than to let such things pass by without claiming them.

"One was just about to suggest we do that."

A while later, Fox's eyes narrowed as she saw the state of the gate. She had bow in hand, and she moved slower as they drew a bit closer, before she stopped entirely, still a distance from it.

"Wait. Listen."

Fox closed her eyes and strained her ears.

((assuming this is the case))

"One cannot hear any movement. One might not be close enough, or it might be ambush, or no longer has people. One and Zwei could try to find out before entry," Fox suggested, "One has learned how to be light on one's feet, and one suspects Zwei has as well."

(Night)

In the shared room with Nona, Fox undressed to her underclothes without any perceived hesitation, but had to pause multiple times to carefully remove the darts concealed in various folds. She placed one of the darts between the mattress and the headboard, hand considering the spot carefully so that it would be hidden from the door but within grabbing distance. Once that was done, she sat and watched Nona as the latter turned out the light.

Fox's golden eyes seemed to almost glow in the dark, except that was ridiculous and certainly only reflecting the light from the Dancing Lights that Nona was showing her. She was very attentive, her eyes watching the Lights changing colour.

"The kind of spellcasting that One uses is simply the kind of spellcasting that One has, whatever that might be. You know One has not studied; One simply feels it."

Fox held out her hand, pointing up, though no light appeared.

"It runs out if One uses it too much," She explained, "Which makes it different from what you use, with your strange language and motions."

"One probably could do more if One actually studied, but One knows Oneself, and knows that studying is not what One does best," Fox gave a knowing smile to Nona, "One will leave the books for those whose mind is sharpened by structured practise. Like yours."

"One will take your advise, and purple does sound like a warm and nice colour," Fox giggled, "Blue is what comes easily, but it is a cold colour. If One tried to make it red, it'd probably turn out purple anyway."

* * *

(Morning)

Fox was wide awake, or so it seemed, when she broke fast with the others, her eyes perusing the selection of morning noms keenly. Or so it seemed. It almost looked as though she was looking at Alexis quite a bit, as though to guage her recovery progress. She looked satisfied after seeing Alexis drink the medicine offered to her.

"So, is everyone ready to head back around to the Old Fish Trail?"" Nona cracked her knuckles. "It's been nice visiting, but there is still a profit to be made here."

"One believes so, though as pointed out, One notes that we should also uncover the means by which they picked up the fireworks, if they do have them," Fox suggested as she tidied herself up to be ready to leave, "If they have a supply, it's quite possible the supply is more dangerous than they are."

Alexis pointed at Fox.

Fox giggled, raising a hand to put a finger to her lips in her almost-trademark 'it's a secret' look to Nona.

Nona raised an eye brow. "Oh yeah?" She had not realized Fox could wield any kind of magic. Not that it was unusual for the odd person to pick up a simple trick here or there. "Just a tip, yellow tends to illuminate better and looks more like natural light."

"One finds that blue is the easiest to call, but one could certainly experiment more with other colours," Fox replied with a smile, "Perhaps you could show one later what you mean."

* * *

Fox's golden eyes lingered on the marks on Zwei's face, not repulsed, nor pitying, but with a soft intrigue. Such a thing was not suited for table conversation at this time, especially considering her target of questions right now would be their host.

"Stories can be found in many places, one is curious to hear the story of this house, but one also wishes to know more about your encounter earlier. One has not heard any rumours of such a creature before from the city, and so its appearance is very curious," Fox added to Nona's posed question.

Fox wrinkled her nose at the corpse of the rubbery creature as it fell to Zwei's blade, her own hand poised and ready to withdraw one of her darts if it had gotten past Zwei.

"One's ears have heard mention of many rumours, but a creature like that was not among them," She noted aloud.

It was a curious sequence of events, and Walthus was very fortunate that they had encountered his dwelling when they did.

"One is not inclined to believe in pure circumstance. This brings up a few questions that one will want to pose later," She murmured, her golden eyes surveying the dwelling, or what was visible of it at the moment from her vantage point. Their fight had disturbed it, but she wanted to see if she could spot other disturbances.

* * *

"Find a spade, dig a hole for this abomination; I don't want it stinking up Walthus's house and attracting more attention for him."

"A sound plan," Fox agreed, "The darkening sky won't be a problem either."

Fox twirled around, stepping lightly on her feet. With a flourish and a giggle, always seeking to play off of her capability to perform, she caused three spheres of blue light to ignite in the air around her. Waving her hand down, she guided them closer to the ground, so that they would not be so easy to spot from distance, and went about locating a spade to dig with.

After the body was buried, Fox put the spade back where she found it, but paused as she observed Alexis.

"Well at least it isn't bleeding anymore, but f**k that blow he gave me hurt." She grimaces feeling her ribs, yup one was damaged. Alexis sighed again and headed back inside waiting for Fox to follow. "Thanks Fox, I appreciate the help."

"One thought it would be best if we did not split up too much, but one suggests that you not aggravate your injury too much," Fox replied, "Make sure that you rest well, and perhaps we can return the favour and protect you in the meantime," She gave a warm smile and a wink.

* * *

Back inside, a warm meal was shared, and Nona began with the questions. Fox decided to wait and observe Walthus's own response to see if he had sufficiently recovered before she would add her own to the table.

"You DARE," Kyrie growled, "You DARE to appeal to the will of the people, after stepping on it!"

Kyrie took a breath, an aura of light emanating from her. She never was really in control of her abilities, and in this moment, the desire to protect the people nearby in the event the man did something drastic was stronger than her restraint.

"What do you know of the will of the people?" She shouted, "You, who have arrived not long ago, claim to know them? What have you DONE for them?! Have you lived among them?! Do you know their stories?!"

"No. You preach YOUR words on to them. You preach that what YOU want is what they want. You. USE. Them."

Kyrie clenched her hands into fists. It was all she could do to resist drawing her shovel on the man in this instant. Thankfully, a gunshot gave her reprieve, and she looked back at Zeran thankfully, as he literally snapped her out of her rage.

During the trip back, Kyrie was oddly quiet. She didn't like to think that the weeds could have her beat, but they had the advantage of an unknown number of years to root down the architecture and any exposed ground. It was just beyond what she could do in a short period of time. At least she had made some progress though.

"Hmm... maybe a sharper sickle would do the trick. But no, sharper just means that you cut the stem easier, the root's still there. Also removes the handhold to pull the root out. Maybe a sickletrowel combination type thing, for digging up the roots in spots the shovel is too big for." She contemplated with an almost uncharacteristic seriousness.

What she wasn't touching on, however, was what the woman had said to her. Mostly because she didn't understand what she was talking about, beyond pointing out the green in her hair. She fingered the hair absently.

* * *

"Wait, so you mean that guy is basically doing the reverse of my job? Telling the people what they should feel, rather than letting the people tell them?" Kyrie gives a confused look, "Maybe I should stay here for a bit while you guys try to get Miguel better." She notes, "But we can talk about that later."

With no hint of hesitation, she walks through the crowd, up towards where the guy was doing his blah blah blah, but rather than address him which he probably expected, Kyrie turned towards the people.

"Good afternoon everyone!" She calls and waves, probably not the first time she's ever addressed a crowd this way.

"Isn't it strange that we still refer to outside of the city walls as wilderness? Or maybe the reason is because it has 'wild' in the word itself. Some parts could be safe or friendly, but others are not. However, if we're to make safe the realm for the people to live in, we should know first hand what lies beyond the city walls." She adds, "And there's still a lot of weeding to do."

"Also, being and having friendly neighbours is better than not even introducing yourself to others that have been here longer than we have. If anyone's wondering about what we've discovered so far, I'd be happy to tell them some time. If you don't know me, I am Kyrie, and I am here to listen to you, the people." She smiles cheerfully, "When I'm in the city, you can often find me helping out with the community gardens. Please feel free to talk to me whenever."

As they neared the clearing that the map indicated to the party would be close, Kyrie grew more curious. She had never met a dryad before. What kind of person would they be like? What did they look like? Well she did have a bit of an idea, having heard some stories, but still, it would be a new experience for her.

Yet, as they got closer, sounds of crying could be heard. As they walked up, the dryad turned to them, traces of crying mostly wiped from her otherworldly face.

In that moment, Kyrie didn't really register that it was a non-human. She knew what she wanted to do.

"Would it- would it be rude to hug you?" Kyrie offered, almost brutally honest in wanting to help the dryad emotionally.

(( copy/paste from Sib the GM ))

The dryad woman smiles faintly at Kyrie. "Your offer is appreciated, dear child, but I must decline--however if your desire to help is sincere, I find myself gravely in need assistance such as you and your companions may be able to provide."

((---pause if anyone wishes to insert anything---))

To the south of here there is a wicked monstrous tree that destroys and consumes all other creatures that cross its path. Numerous times my lover and I have attempted to drive it away, but it has resisted us. If it is not destroyed, I fear it will soon run out of prey and come to destroy my tree and devour my flesh."

(( End of copy and paste ))

Kyrie frowned, scratching at her cheek, "I've never heard of a tree that eats other trees, or a moving tree before. But it sounds like a weed. I don't like weeds. Guys I think we have some gardening to do."

(( As an aside, I do anticipate someone saying 'waitamin there Kyrie'. After all, if no one says that, she might very well start marching south on her own lol ))
