Appearance/Description: Cracking her knuckles inside of their spiked guantlets, Kenaria Minqann strides up to the army registration office, her dark toned studded leather armour giving her appearance a dark outlook. If her blue-green eyes, elegant silver circlet and soft tan skin were any sign of kindness as read by the officer, this was quickly proven false by her actions. Her rough short-cut brown hair sways just slightly as she glances around the room swiftly, with obvious discontent. Her eyes show her nature, going flat with hostility.

"Hurry up!" She says sharply, her tone altogether serious and threatening, "You know what people come here for, so where's the sign up already?"

The officer stiffens; he was used to some of the rough recruits, but this woman was something else, "I don't like your attitude recruit! Being in the army is not about how rough you are, but requires discipline!"

"Discipline?" Kenaria asks, her tone bordering on the sadistic, "You're talking to me about discipline?" She laughs, "Let me tell you, a lot of the missions I've done as a paid assassin or just general mercenary required more discipline than this war crap!"

The officer suddenly gets a chill, now fully realizing just what he was dealing with. This woman is a mercenary, or at least was from the looks of it, and one that had no qualms about killing at that. This was dangerous, but if she was in the army, on their side, her capabilities might be worth enduring her hostile behaviour.

"Very well then," The officer says in a resigned tone, "Here is the sign-up sheet." He prayed that this wouldn't be an issue that would get his superiors on his case.

Kenaria scowls, and signs swiftly, but neatly, "There you go." She says seriously, "That, my dear officer, is a contract, and I know what I need to do to fulfill it." With that, she exits the room, leaving the officer shivering.

"That woman is crazy." The officer mutters to himself, regaining his composure.

* * *

Kenaria Minqann is an ex-mercenary, often a paid assassin. She comes across with a very strong attitude, and often hostile actions. However, she does know how to deal with negotiations, but prefers intimidation to get her way. In a battle, she is relentless and merciless, killing an opponent as swiftly as she can so she can move onto the next one. Despite her brash behaviour, she does understand when subtlety is needed, again mainly from fulfilling assassinations. However, despite her rough exterior, there does appear at times that she does have kindness, however these times are brief, and many who pursue these instances wind up dead; she trusts no one, and will kill anyone.

No response, but redoing equipment and gear is easy enough if I need to use a different amount of starting gold, or need to trade in a questionable item.
So, with that note, Kenaria Minqann is ready.

Yeah, Linnix wouldn't be that interested in identifying it at this point; she was only making sure the blade was intact and sharp. If she saw an inscription or something with the dim light, however, she might make a mental note to look at it again later.
As it is though, Linnix is unfamiliar with short swords, and so she wouldn't really look at it again until she drew it later (whether for practice or in battle), and even then, it's hard to say whether she'd be paying attention to the actual blade or not.

although I only asked one, hehehe.
I've been trying to keep Linnix the same, for both game consistency, and for Zonk if they wanted to replay Linnix. I guess this means I can really start having Linnix's character grow now ^-^
Oh, and in her inspection of the short sword, did Linnix find anything regarding what the ??'s in the item description might be?

Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes
Subject: Whew, time for a breather

Linnix breathes a sigh of relief when the spider ceases to move; she didn't realize she's been holding her breath for a moment.

"Are you alright, Aelistae? It looked like it hit you fairly hard." Linnix asks, her voice tense and nervous from the battle.

Carefully, Linnix retrieves both the light orbs and her dagger. She holds one of the orbs in front of her as she looks around the room.

"This is so annoying!" Linnix says in exasperation, "I can hardly see anythi-" She is cut off in mid-sentence as she trips.

"Ow..." Linnix mutters as she lands on the unforgiving stone floor.

Thankfully, the fall didn't break the light orb in her hand, so she sits up and moves the orb toward the thing that tripped her. With disgust, she finds herself nearly face to face with the decaying skull of evidently one of the spider's prior meals. She instinctively kicks out at it, causing it to be knocked back a bit. However, in doing so, Linnix hears the distinct sound of of rattling coins, or was that just the armour she can see on the body?

In spite of her disgust with the dead body, her curiosity got the better of her. Carefully inspecting the body for a pack of some kind, Linnix smiles when she finds a pouch beside it, with the unmistakeable weight and feel of coins. Deftly opening the bag in one hand with the light orb in the other, a smug grin appears on Linnix's face as she sees the yellow shininess inside the bag. She quickly stuffs the bag inside her own; there'll be time to count and split it later. Judging from the weight of it, Linnix can easily guess there to be at least 50 coins in the pouch.

Now thinking about wealth, Linnix also consider's the body's armour and sword. From the dim light of her orb, she can see that they're still in fine condition, but given the weight of the armour at least, it might not be worth taking. She considers the sword though; these ruins have already shown that Linnix could expect close range combat...

She picks up the sword experimentally. The weight isn't as bad as Linnix had thought it might be, but the weapon feels very foreign in her hand. She stands up and tests out the blade, swinging it deftly. It is heavier than her dagger, but she can still use it as easily as her dagger. Now seriously considering the weapon, Linnix decides that since it weighs about the same as two daggers, which isn't that much, she might as well take it for emergencies. Linnix inspects the blade carefully with her dim light; if she was going to take this blade, she'd better be sure that it is alright.

Passing Linnix's inspection, she takes the sheathe off of the dead body's belt, and sheathes the blade. She attaches the sheathe to her own belt. It is definately awkward for her, not used to having the weight on her hip, or the strangeness of the sheathe, but she could get used to that. Afterwards, Linnix looks around the room for Aelistae and walks up to her, careful to watch where she places her feet this time.

"Did you find anything?" Linnix asks.

Much to her own amazement, she realizes she must have dozed off a bit even while flying. The girl stretches her arms and legs, yawning slightly. Yet, even though she fell asleep, she did not appear in view.

Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, she glances back below, only to find no one there. "Huh? Where'd they go?" She asks quietly to herself. She picks up the trail of the most recent one to move, and breaks a couple of speed limits flying to the town.

A spirit of the air, she had never really touched the ground before. Yes, sometimes her wings grew tired, but even then she would stay close to the sky. Watching the flickering lights of people wandering back and forth, she decides to stay up here, where no one usually looks. Seeing the inn roof to be one of the highest upon the buildings below, she softly lands on it, her invisible yet small form hardly disturbing it.

The girl leans back, resting on the rooftop, watching the stars above. She did not need to sleep at all, but she liked to. The dreams in the twilight or the night can be quite pretty... and so, still invisible, the girl closes her eyes and sleeps on the roof.

Do we go by the chart on page 135 of the DMG? (it says 2700gp for third level)
And is there any particular restrictions on items and such?

The fall itself can be quite neat depending on the circumstances, the stop just hurts, so I'd say the fall.

Take your pick:
1) Be charged with the responsibility for saving a world (you'd get the potential to do so, but you'll still be the one that has to put in the effort and work to do it)
2) Be the one that chooses and charges a person to save a world

In both cases, the charging is quite public, and so everyone would know and see (even over TV and the internet).

Linnix breathes deeply and calls back up, "I don't know; it's kind of hard to say since I know nothing about spiders this size."

Taking a step away from the grotesque creature, Linnix then hurls the knife in her hand, aiming at the spider's eyes.

Linnix then steps back further and picks up her crossbow, loading it swiftly.

She'll continue to pelt the creature with bolts, continuing to aim for its eyes that are nice enough to be slightly easier for her to aim at because of their shimmering .

I think I know the answer to this one, but would Linnix be able to Sneak Attack the spider if she flanked it with Aelistae? (my guess is not because of the limits of her vision, and just being unable to reach the spider's body past its legs)
Oh, and I just noticed, but on the char sheet, it says "Pick Pocket" as a skill for Linnix. Would that be Slight of Hand?
It looks like the skill points are a bit off on the char sheet as well (from the looks of it, there's 2 points missing). Sorry, I didn't look over it before. Would I be able to place those last two points into another skill (I'd put them in Tumble)?

Seya > Illythid > Fires at Evanin > Moves to T7

As soon as the battle begins, Seya already has her bow nocked and she fires at the other ranged threat in the vicinity: Evanin. After her shot, she quickly steps to behind Riva. There was no point in leaving herself open for Evanin to counterattack.

(just going from the sequence of events... you put a few there Kaelyn ^-^)

Still preoccupied with thinking of how she could use the orbs later, Linnix doesn't notice the floor give way under her. Linnix cries out and tries to grab at the side of the opening, but it just slips out of her reach. Down she falls, for what feels like a minute, until finally Linnix slams into the ground.

Linnix cries out in pain, and after recovering tries to judge the immense pain in her shoulder. With a little bit of difficulty, she manages to stand up, and noticing how dark it is, she checks on her candle flame orbs. With dismay, she can see two of them broken (good thing she did grab extra). However, in standing up, something catches her hand.

"Eww..." Linnix says in disgust, noticing the weirdly sticky thread.

Then the clicking mandibles immediately catches her attention. Linnix freezes and looks around warily, dismayed at the limits of her vision. She raises her hand crossbow, trying to point it in the direction of the sound. With her foot she nudges one of the remaining orbs in the direction of the noise. If there's enough light for her to make out the spider's form, she'll fire. If not, she hesitates.

Linix sighs, and puts both the torch and the light orbs in her pack.

Maybe I should grab a couple extra... Linnix thinks.

Linnix begins to pry another two off the wall, but stops as soon as she hears the noise. A sweat droplet falls down the side of her cheek, but whether it is from anticipation or from the exertion of obtaining the orbs can't be determined by her expression.

When the noise vanishes, Linnix glances around warily, but then continues to try to get these last two orbs (as quietly as possible).

"Oh, neat!" Linnix marvels, continuing to examine the orb.

Now determined to take the interesting orb with her, Linnix begins to wonder how to get it to unattach from the wall. First she reaches behind it, to where there may be an attachment between it an the wall. Then she tries feeling above and below it, to see if there's any attachment points there.

When or if she finds an attachment point, Linnix then connects the orb to her hand. At the same time, she retrieves an unmentioned torch (because she forgot she had two of them) and tries to stick the orb onto the end. If successful, she'll repeat with a second orb for a second torch.

Subject: Seeing, but not Believing

Linnix scowls at the sight of the two tortured and impaled creatures. Surely there was no reason for that sort of thing in this world, ever. Her mind wanders back to the sight of the bandit similarly tortured, but by crucification rather than this brutal impaling.

"Ugh... this is getting so disgusting." Linnix murmurs, the sights reassuring her place as essentially a non-combatant. She couldn't take it, the sight of blood, much less torture.

Linnix shivers, and her eyes glaze over as her mind now wanders off on its own without her consent, thinking to what might have happened if They had caught her... The cave suddenly seems so much colder, and her breath seems to mist in front of her... Linnix breathes faster, and heart pounds faster, its noise deafening her... She just freezes in place...

Then she thinks back to the treasure chest she could barely see in the dark. Linnix bites her lip, and her breathing steadies. No way, she was not about to stop now. There was a reward to be collected, and so, she continues.

The interesting lights at first are a welcome sight to Linnix's eyes, but then she realizes the downside: with light on both sides of the hall, there were basically no places for her to hide if she needed to. Linnix bites her lip again. Then there was also the matter of the path splitting as well.

Well, that's just great... Linnix thought.

Was all this trouble really worth that single treasure chest? Linnix began to question that. She then turned her attention to the corridor itself. The lights really troubled her; they were so... unnatural. Linnix reaches up to one curiously.

"This can't be real..." She murmurs, tentatively touching the light (if it's not as hot as a candle flame).

That brought several other questions to her head. Why was this here? What was it for? Was it a temple? If so, what was it a temple to? So many questions struck her at the same time that her eyes glazed over, and she paused, lost in thought. Linnix didn't think she heard any rumours about such a place, and Bartholomew didn't mention anything either. Then she thought about the illusion of the river that they had passed. Was this too an illusion?

Linnix began to question the situation as soon as she entered the cave; her sight was of hardly any use at all. Using her ears to guide her along with the others, she hardly trusted herself to breathe, inching along without any real sound at all.

This isn't good, she thought, the sooner this is over, the better.

However, when she passes the right alcove, a few of her doubts are reassured. So there was a reward here after all; that provides a good enough reason for coming.

I can't open that chest in this darkness if it is locked, Linnix thought, And besides, the excess coin, if there are coins in there, would be too noisy; I can't afford to give away our position right now.

Linnix's eyes go flat as her determination fills her mind. She steps forward, taking care to be as quiet as possible, but now with more purpose, holding her hand crossbow ready. She will go through with this, if only to collect the reward so owed to the party's efforts.

Linnix fidgets with her hand crossbow for a moment, making sure it is still loaded, the mechanism showed no signs of jamming and such. However, looking closely upon her face, one can see that she is biting her lip. Perhaps it was because she was questioning going on this trek, or perhaps she was just tense going into battle; what exactly was going through Linnix's mind couldn't be easily seen.

“Don’t be frightened, If you shoot as well as you did before, when you were fighting those bandits, you have nothing to fear."

Linnix smiles sheepishly, "I think that might have just been a lucky shot." She murmurs to Aelistae, "I'll try my best anyway."

She looks at the cave in front of her, ready to follow the others into the darkness.

In the end, solitude is better, because if you die so horribly, your loved one, the one who gave you their love, will be heartbroken. Whereas in solitude, you may not receive the love of another, but to still be able to love can be enough.

Linnix simply smiles and nods at everyone's suggestions as they converse with each other. She really didn't have that much of an idea of what was supposed to be done, or why; combat was not her thing. In the end, Linnix decided just to stick to the back, where she hopefully won't get in anyone's way.

Seya > Illythid > Prebattle

Round 1 > Moves to S6

Seya quickly enters after her teammate, moving alongside her.

Round 2 > Reads Bless Scroll

Seya reaches into the scroll canister upon her belt, and pulls out a number of rolled up scrolls. She reads one of them aloud, the divine language filling both her and her ally's hearts with further resolve.

Round 3 > Reads Magic Weapon Scroll (for Riva)

Seya reads a second scroll, this one giving Riva's sword a sharper edge with which to cut.

Round 4 > Reads Shield of Faith Scroll (for Riva)

Seya reads yet another scroll, this time providing a transparent shield around her ally.

Round 5 > Reads Entropic Shield Scroll (for self)

Seya reads another scroll, this one providing her with a multicoloured aura reminiscent of the one used by Myra.

Round 6 > Reads Guidance Scroll (for Riva)

Round 7 > Reads Shield of Faith Scroll (for self)

Round 8 > Reads Magic Weapon Scroll (for self: bow)

Round 9 > Drinks a vial

Putting the remaining rolled up scrolls back into her canister, Seya pulls out a vial of liquid at the same time. She drinks the liquid swiftly. (Devalero, you'll have to check with Glory what it does; it was hers, but she gave it to Seya)

Final Round > Draws bow

Seya takes a deep breath. In the previous phase, she didn't last that long before she was felled. Yet, Seya smiles; she didn't care about falling. All that mattered to her was that she grow strong. Even with her newfound strength, Seya reached behind her back, and pulled out the exact same longbow as she had used in the first phase. She was ready.

I've been wondering this for a while... but if I increase Linnix's int at level 8 (to 12, modifier of +1 then), does Linnix get a bonus language?
And, even though I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, does Linnix gain a skill point for the prior character levels because of the change of modifier? I'm pretty sure it's no, but just wondering.
Umm... I think that's it. It might be right in the book, and I just didn't find it... I hope I didn't just miss it *sweatdrop*
Well, later!
