Outer Regions of the Hylon Forest
Unmapped Area
Six Hours before Twilight

Things did not bode well. Despite Deunan's improved speed, somehow Renshiir saw them coming, even through the trees, and evaded them yet again, dashing away.

Not willing to take any chances, as soon as he could, Armand weaves a spell through the air to catch her, but even as he gets line of sight to her through the dense foliage, something goes wrong, and the magic fails. Renshiir stops for an instant, looking back. In that glimpse, you can see green hair, eyes and even skin tone.

"If you're going to kill me anyway, why should I stop? That's what people like you tend to do to people like me who are in the wrong place at the wrong time." Renshiir's voice comes back, sounding terrified beyond belief. Perhaps there was more to this than just simple employment by a shady organization.

Suddenly, she changes her course of movement, now running to the West, to the cliffs.

(BTW, this Twilight is dusk, so it is still in the afternoon, but with the thick foliage and forest canopy, it might as well be night)

"I salute your arena prowess ... oh Champion of Champions ... the Mighty Xira ... I am but a stranger in a much stranger land. The world where I come from revels in the granduers of arena combat. The loss of life is common in those arenas, but immortality is granted to those who graduate from the ranks of the arena gladiators! I have forsaken all that glory and promise to make a new life and destiny here. What ... pray tell ... are the arena rules in this place ... and is this a battle to the death ... or do we spare one another's lives?"

The announcer coughs to redirect the question to him, "There is a spell placed over the grounds of this arena that ensure that while unconsciousness is unavoidable, our battles never result in actual death. As for house rules, unfortunately the manager is in constant debate about such rules with all the competetors and so none ever get laid out. As such, besides the 'one on one' rule, anything goes."

"Why?"

A simple question, but the intonation is unnerving. Perhaps Xira's bizarre nature was also another reason why she wasn't often challenged.

"Why do you try to flatter me? There's the truth, and then there's the twisted truth, and you make it sound like I did more than I did."

The announcer's face goes a bit pale, then he whispers to Manalagna, "I've been trying to explain that to her for some time now; she just doesn't get it."

The bunnies all scatter, and even Tristan's keen eyes cannot track all three hundred bunnies as they run in all directions. The small creatures run and run and run, and at most Tristan can only catch thirteen before he cannot find any trace of the others.

A soft sound comes from the open door of the house. It is faint, and Tristan has to strain his ears in order to hear it, but it is there. It sounds vaguely like something crying.

"So then... to the victor belongs the spoils?"

To this, the charismatic announcer lets out a boisterous laugh, and claps the dwarf on the shoulder. "Oh no, my friend, your belongings are not in any danger of being taken by Xira; she shows little interest in such things. I said my part, it's up to you to decide whether you listen to me or not."

"What Is My Reward for Defeating Your Defending Champion ... This Xira?"

The announcer nods, "That has been decided mostly by Xira. When she first became champion, she had said she would give a gift to the person who could defeat her. It is something that no other person has in the world, and considering what it is, I'm surprised anyone would even want it, much less use it. Taking this into consideration, you can also collect your prize from the arena manager, who will give you a sum of two thousand golden crowns."

The announcer's eyes look across, spotting movement, "Oh, it looks like you are going to be fortunate enough to meet Xira before the battle; here she comes now."

A human woman walks slowly towards the two standing in the center of the arena. She wears a black ornamental gown, and a few strands of her long black hair can be seen from her hooded face. Her bleak appearance is rather peculiar, but not as much as her hands, which are heavily bandaged.

"Is there a fight today?" the woman, Xira, asks of the announcer. Her voice is, like her appearance, slightly bleak and somewhat empty.

The announcer puts his other arm around her, holding onto both Gladiators, and proudly says, "Yes! Today Manalagna Hammer shall meet you head on in battle! That is this fellow here!"

At this close range, Xira's bandaged hands can be seen in their entirety, and Manalagna cannot help but wonder exactly how in the worlds the woman manages to do anything with her hands in those near-casts.

The bunny weakly raises its paws, but just lets them drop, hardly requiring the energy to dodge. However, its head snaps up sharply, catching Tristan in the chest and drawing blood. (-8 hp)

Tristan swings his stand in response, but the bunny actually manages to duck under it this time. Not so for Tristan's second strike though, which catches the bunny on the head, and causes it to disintegrate into a large cloud of dust.

The Dire Dust Bunny looks at Tristan, then suddenly opens its mouth and unleashes another shower of hits upon Tristan in the form of a new dust bunny swarm. Tristan manages to twist his body to avoid the worst of the attack, but it now felt like he had a few golf-ball like divets in his body. (-3 hp)

The new dust bunny swarm completely ignores Tristan, and runs out the open door, running away from him as fast as possible.

Tristan shows no mercy and whacks the Dire Dust Bunny hard on the back, causing it to crack just a bit more. However, the second hit, and it is a hit, just glances off of its hard body.

The bunny goes to strike again, but this time its movements are predictable, and evading it is easy. Once again, Tristan whacks it thrice, once on the side, and twice in the head. Now the cracks extend over its entire body, and the rate in which dust seems to be drawn in and out of the cracks is far greater. One red eye has gone out, and the other is rather dim.

The creature almost seems to want to run, but something keeps it from doing so. A desperate look appears in its one eye as it looks at Tristan for perhaps the final time.

Yin raises his blade, but Willow is the first to react. Running forward, she slips her blades around Yin's, and twirls him around as she slices, but both hits glance off of Yin's armour. Encouraged by this, Yin twirls around and strikes with his blade, the blade passing through the junction in Willow's armour at the elbow point. The blade passes through, but no blood is drawn, despite the fact that Willow felt her strength wane just slightly from the attack. (+6 nonlethal)

Yin's eyes light up as he successfully strikes the first hit. Perhaps this time would be different...

The bunny again rears itself back, but this time catches Tristan in the arm with one of its paws. (-3 hp) This time as well, its head bobs from side to side, and it strikes true, drawing blood from Tristan's leg. (-7 hp)

This beast is dangerous, but not so dangerous as Tristan when he puts his mind to it. Twirling his deadly umbrella stand of doom, he whacks the bunny on both sides of its head, the cracks from the strikes traveling a bit along its body. One part of the crack severs the beast's eye, but the redness of the eye remains intact, and doesn't go out. From the cracks now, little puffs of dust trail out in a set rhythm, almost like the beast is breathing in and out, maybe even panting slightly. Not yet finished, Tristan brings the umbrella stand to hit it on its raised back, causing another crack to form.

"Are you ready then?"

"You bet!" Yin says, grinning. He holds up the two swords he already picked out for Willow, "These are the ones you always use; I made sure I got the right ones." He says, passing them to Willow.

He then grabs the longsword next to him and almost runs to the starting position outlined on the many circles along the hall. These swords used in the Training Hall are specially made; no death can come from these swords, for they don't draw blood. That doesn't mean they can't knock out a person for an hour or two though, and Yin knows this, but he doesn't care; already, Willow can see in his eyes that strange determination that only a self-proclaimed rival can achieve.

The immense bunny brings itself upright, its head touching the ceiling as it slams down with both its paws at Tristan. However, Tristan ducks to the side of both of them, and when it leaps forward to bite, he whaps it sharply with the umbrella stand. The umbrella stand jars in his hand's grip, vibrating roughly from the attack, as a slight crack appears in the bunny's side.

It is definately harder than it looks, Tristan can easily conclude as he raises the umbrella stand. This time he lands it squarely between the eyes of the bunny's head, and a loud CRACK can be heard as a the bunny's head shows a spider-web cracking from the point of impact. The bunny recoils from the attack, and shakes its head, as though clearing its mind of fog, but it returns to gaze at Tristan quickly enough, too quickly for comfort.

Tristan reaches for something, anything behind him, and his hand settles on something cylindrical and round. Just at that moment, however, the immense Dire Dust Bunny leaps out of the closet and its teeth sink into Tristan's shoulder, drawing blood. (-5 hp)

After the attack it draws back from Tristan, as he smashes the swarm it summoned into dust puffs, but not before they manage to bite him a few times (-2 hp). This bunny seems to be as big as Tristan, and if it wanted to, it could look him straight in the eye. Its body is rather bizarre, consisting of speckles of dust compacted into a tangible form. Just how much it is compacted suggests that it is rather hard, not unlike an earth elemental, made up of compacted earth.

First he twists, knocking the bunnies off of him, and then he punches in a whirl, causing multitudes of the creatures to pop in an explosion of dirt and dust. Finally, the small number that are left regroup, just in time to be sent flying by a well-timed kick. Tristan looks on appreciably as all the bunnies in that makeshift soccer-ball pop. The rest of the bunnies that are left, a very small number indeed, all decide it is within their best interest to hop to their own business, and scatter in different directions, no longer a threatening swarm.

Standing up to immediately embrace the challenge, Hammer is immediately applauded for as he walks down to enter the arena. Immediately, he notices something a bit strange; he was the only one to come down, and it didn't look like there were any other contenders.

"And who might you be there?" The announcer asks.

"My name is Manalagna Hammer of Clan Hammer. I come from a land far away known as Alastari. A place I may never see again, because I have come to fight against a coming evil that threatens to destroy this world."

Manalagna's last sentence is cut out, for the loud applause given by the crowd ensures that no one except for maybe the announcer heard it. Almost apologetically, the announcer whispers in Manalagna's ear.

"So, it seems we actually have a tournament this time; the defending champion's battles are often... expensive for the contender, and that's why few people challenge her these days. You can use any weapons and gear in your arsenal, however, you cannot summon any allies, familiars, companions or what-have-you; this is a one on one battle." The announcer explains, then hastily adds, "I suggest you don't use any really expensive weapons."

"This battle shall take place upon the marking of the next hour!" The announcer shouts to the audience, "Where the challenger, Manalagna, shall face Xira, the defending champion!"

This brings about more applause from the audience, and then they diminish for the intermission.

"This hour gives you a chance to prepare and technically to meet your opponent, but Xira usually doesn't come out in public, so chances are you won't." The announcer explains to Manalagna, "For being fairly strong, she definitely is a shy and strange person."

Topic: Auguries of Destruction - The Linsemptus - Information
Subject: The Dark Collectors (Faction)

Initial Knowledge

The Dark Collectors, or just the Collectors, is a largely unknown shady organization with even shadier goals. They run a secret operation, with unknown objectives. Even in incidents where they are directly involved, there is often very very little evidence to show that there was any involvement of this faction.

There are however rumours that have passed around about this faction. One of them suggests that the Dark Collectors is an immense spy ring, capable of infiltrating any organization at any level. Another suggests that they aren't spies, but actual high ranking thieves, stealing artifacts and other magical items, but there is no basis for this rumour, as most of the magical items listed by this rumour are all mythical in the first place. Finally, there is a rumour that suggests they don't exist at all, but they are just a scam made by the authorities to boost taxes and make more annoying security measures.

Despite these rumours, there are no facts about this faction, and very very little can even be found out about it.

Mark of the Collectors

A wavy, golden border stained with blotches of red ink to show blood marks the edges of this artwork. In the center of the black void, descending on a strand of silken thread, is depected a terrible and other-worldly spider, its carapiece's joints all sharp and angular, and it looks as though it is made out of crystal diamonds, rubies and other gemstones. It too is blotched with ink blood. In the clutches of its eight legs is a perfect sphere, a crystal orb that almost seems to shine with power in the image. It is an incredibly life-like image, but is seldom seen.

Hierarchy of the Collectors

The Dark Collectors is made out of an immense hierarchy. At the elite top of the group is one known as the Archangel of Annihilation. The Archangel controls everything in the organization, from rules to schemes, but is hardly ever seen at all. Second in command is the Dark Prosecutor, who is the Archangel's loyal servant. He deals with everyone else in the organization, and is a ruthless person, killing out of habit, and enforcing everything. Everyone else in the organization is a slave to these two people, and they are made to do their bidding. If someone refuses, they are made to regardless, and if they just prove incapable or inefficient, they are killed. These slaves are often actually bred, and as soon as they are born, the Mark of the Collectors is put on their backs. The effects of this tattoo effectively kill the person as soon as their loyalty falters, as well as destroy their body and seal the person's soul from being able to be raised.

Subject: Character Descriptions

The following is the character descriptions I have received from each player, in their own words.

Kaelyn

Armand Amaranth
Race: Humanoid Outsider
Gender: Male
Height: 6’1"
Weight: 190lbs
Hair: Black
Eyes: Emerald
Garbed in simple Black robes, gloves, clothing boots etc, The only piece of his outfit of note is the metal helmed which is as far as anyone can tell fused around his head. (Think man in the iron mask)

Deunan Noot
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Height: 5' 5"
Weight: 190 lb
Skin: Tan
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Light Brown; Wavy
(Individual description not given, as it is a cohort type PC)

Caduceus
White ash staff with silver inlaid runes

Sibelius Eos Owm

Willow Hiswena
Human
Female
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 171 lbs (230)
The girl named Willow is at least as tall as, if not taller than most men. She seems a little young to be playing on the field of war, being at most in her early twenties, but there is no doubt that she can handle herself. Upon her hips lie the sheaths of two long swords which you don’t doubt she has full use of when fighting. Her long sandy brown hair adds to the feeling that she was aptly named, for she often seems to remain a silent sentinel as the related tree. You guess that maybe she is from one of the tribes of savages, to explain her towering size, though if such is true, she must have been removed from such a life at a relatively young age, for she at least seems to be smarter, and certainly more literate than you would attribute to any barbarian. Though as for that she remains very shy and speaks little if at all, leaving much of her life a mystery. By appearance, she is little to look at, size not considered, she seems a rather plain girl, with an expression that is hard to read for emotion save perhaps sadness behind her deep brown eyes. On guard duty and in combat she wears a suit of breastplate armour that is brilliantly crafted from what appears, by its near silver sheen, to be Mithral. For the entire encumbrance it seems to bear on her, she might as well be fighting in her navy blue tunic and breeches rather than a full suit of armour.

Hammer

Name: Manalagna Hammer of Clan Hammer
Race: Dwarf
Height: 5 feet 5 inches tall
Weight: 150 pounds
Hair: Silver and Silver beard
Eyes: Blazing Red Eyes
(individual description not given)

Vilyamar

Character Name: Dusk
Race: Elf
Gender: Male
Height: 5’10”
Hair: Blonde, Short
Eyes: Blue
Weight: 155 lbs
Arynül looks almost like a human for being of elven descent. At only 5'10", his features are assuredly elven, though from behind he looks like a normal human. Short for an elf, he was once thought to be half-elven, but his heritage is as pure as any.
While his skills at disguise are not renowned, rumors have said that his appearance these days are the closest they have ever been to his natural one. Some say he was last seen wearing quite ordinary outfit of loose brown pants and jacket over a white shirt. His belt is odd with a few pouches between three opals. His shirts are often laced up to the neck no matter the weather or heat. The boots are worn, but at the same time never seem to attract dirt let alone disturb it.
Supple black leather gloves often cover his hands including his two rings of power. Besides the rings, his only jewelery is a black medallion that hangs from his neck. All this is covered by a gray cloak of elven make that seems to force the viewer's eyes away, blending into any surrounding.
He often carries a single pack as well.

Topic: Auguries of Destruction - The Linsemptus - Information
Subject: Cities of Tiancann

Each main city is stationed at nearly the center of each geographical region. There are lesser towns as well, but they are not significant enough to the game to put here.

Aqinar

The eastern capital of Aqinarr utilizes the best that the ocean can provide, with its navy of fishing boats as well as specialized diving legions to mine the pearls hidden along the eastern reefs. It is a very peaceful city, as the methodical waves of the ocean give it a tranquil feel. The roads are made of marble, houses are generally made out of wood with slate roofs, and there is a significant harbour district which is made up entirely of harbours that extend into the waters.

Girhn

The northern city of Girhn on the north penninsula specializes in the mining of the riches in the mountain range, with artisans forming weapons, armour, statues and treasure alike with the valuable ores and metals. As such, the city is rather metallic, with even the roads and houses made out of metal. It is said that the mineral deposits of the northern mountain range are unlimited, although no one wants to know for sure.

Fonhinqann

The desert city of Fonhinqann actually thrives in the otherwise hospitable environment, working with the oasis to cultivate the otherwise infertile land, and using the mighty winds of the desert to further their progress. Its houses are little more than shacks made out of bamboo; with the heat of the desert sun, you don't need much more than shade. There is also a large number of wooden windmills, which together form enough grain to feed all five large cities. The main tourist attraction is the large stone arena, akin to the Roman Coliseum on Ancient Earth.

Hylon

The forest city of Hylon uses the riches that the western forest itself provides, creating beautiful worksmanship in their culture and wonderfully carved halls. Nearly everything here is made of wood, wood being the most abundant resource there is here. It is located in a clearing in Hylon Forest.

Wanqir

The final city in the center of the continent is the meeting and trading captial of these four cities, and as such holds a majestic apparel that is impossible for either city to attain on its own, using the wooden carvings from the west, the metalwork of the north, the power of the wind from the south, and the beauty of the ocean from the east. This city is undoubtedly the capital of Tiancann, known as Wanqir. At its center is a large castle that is only dwarfed by one other structure in the city, which is the Wanqir Clock Tower. The Tower extends at least 10 stories high, and is held together and maintained by strong magic. It is here, in the Palace Hall, where the delegates from the four other cities meet, to decide the course of the future for Tiancann based on what they need as a whole, recognizing individual needs but each elected to know when sacrifice is required to benefit the whole in the long run. Under such rule, the continent of Tiancann has thrived for a millenia, until now, when the disaster of the Linsemptus strikes...

Subject: Geography of Tiancann

Tiancann can easily be divided into five geographical terrains. There is the Western Forest, the Central Plains, the Southern Desert, the Eastern Rivers, and the Northern Mountains.

Western Forest (Also referred to as the Hylon Forest)

This region spans from the northern mountain ranges to the southern sandy shores. It is roughly (if one looks at it from far above) diamond shaped, and the trees follow the Eastern cliff line, going directly to the cliff's edge. From far above, it looks as though this side of the continent was just roughly cleaved off by some giant axe. The forest near the mountain range is incredibly dense, forming a region of near darkness. It is rumoured that a considerable amount of criminal activity is done within this region.

Southern Desert (Also referred to as the Fonhinqann Desert)

There is not much to say about this region; it mainly appears to be an ocean of sand, broken by a large oasis at the center.

Eastern Rivers (Also referred to as the Aqinar Valley)

This region is an incredibly lush environment formed by many interwoven rivers and lakes that connect to the ocean and travel as far inland as the lonely peak of Venerro. Aqinar is centered over a junction between the major rivers.

Northern Mountains and Beyond (Also referred to, but at a lesser extent, as the Girhn Mountain Range)

This mountain range, if one looks at it from far above, seems to cleanly divide the continent from the Northern Penninsula straight horizontally across from East to West. It should be noted that this range DOES NOT include the lonely peak of Venerro, which is South from the center of the range. The Northern Penninsula is a tundra region, and there is few things that go on there, although Girhn is located just past the mountain range and a considerable amount of manufacture takes place there.

Central Plains (Also referred to as the Plains of Wanqir)

A very flat landscape, broken only by the lonely peak of Venerro in its northern region. This plain consists mainly of large grass. There's not much else to say about it, apart from the single ravine between Venerro and the center of Tiancann, where Wanqir stands.

The Lonely Mountain of Venerro

This peak is actually quite tall, in comparison it is not unlike Mt. Everest on Earth with regards to its height. As such, it is easy to see against the horizon from all corners of the continent.
