The wind whistles softly in a blue-haired girl's ears. She might have not seen them coming, but she heard them. Thankfully, it was a simple matter to climb higher in the tree she was sitting in. It would be unlikely that they would go after so small a target as her, and even if they were to jump, chances are they would not be able to ascend the tree even if they wanted to.

Although, it pays to be prepared.

At her side, previously hidden in the tree, a metal rapier is sheathed. Judging by the hilt, one would say it is made of silver with gold inlay and decor, but the 'silver' has a bluish tinge to it, and the 'gold' a reddish one. Reaching along the side of her backpack, the girl slips out what can only be described as a wand. Made of the same reddish gold material, yet woven in a majestic manner along its shaft, and at its tip is a diamond cut quartz crystal. She looks over the side of the branch she sits on, holding the wand at the ready, just in case a wolf got lucky, to jump up and successfully land on a branch.

"It seems this may be one of the more interesting decades I've seen." the seemingly 8-year old girl murmurs.

Do they actually expect Copycat to wear clothing in her feline form?

Even if that were put aside, doesn't a uniform defeat the purpose of being able to morph? If you're wearing the uniform, you can't really morph it with you. It's the reason why Mystique doesn't really wear clothing either, although she can shift to a form that has clothing.

Copycat walks over, shifting back to feline shape, and takes a uniform hesitantly. She holds it up, and sniffs the material. No scent, not even a chemically-clean type of scent. She puts it to her ear, half expecting to hear some sort of minute buzz of technologically advanced fibres or materials. Nothing.

Copycat frowns. There must be something interesting about this material! She sits down on the couch, examining it, poking at it, and repeating her various observations trying to find its secrets. After all, it came in a shiny box! There must be something interesting about it....

"I don't think we have as much time as we thought." The Scout murmurs softly, fading into invisibility, "Ride, quickly!"

There is no hesitation, for in a war, hesitation often leads to death, and two of the party have already encountered it. The camp is abandoned, the fire still burning, with everyone taking mount and moving out, following the road back to Wanqir. The Scout, although invisible, flies alongside Manalagna and bestows a brief light of healing upon him, to further his recovery. (+17 hp Manalagna) Likewise, she does so with Deunan, for although they are beyond the swing of the Reaper, they are far from completely healed (+19 hp Deunan). Not a moment too soon, either.

"They're coming!" The Scout shouts, "Don't look back! Focus on what's in front!"

For a dreadful moment, there is only silence outside of the sound of hooves hitting the ground, for these creatures do not make sound. Then a strange noise is heard, coming from one source sources. The sound is akin to a clap of thunder accompanying lightning, but whatever it is, it is not lightning. It is like a ray of vivid light, striking through the dark of night, but with a dark purpose. It strikes the ground just to the side of Mitsuru's horse for a split second, upturning the ground where it hits.

"Spread out!" Mitsuru calls, "They won't be able to hit everyone that way!"

Silence returns, and everyone spreads out a bit more to prevent collisions. Everyone is evenly spread out, with the Aqinarr soldiers spaced in between the others. Then, another beam of energy strikes down, this time just barely to the right of Willow. Only the prickling sensation of someone watching gave Willow the instinct to direct her horse left a bit to avoid the blast. The Scout, having fallen silent, no longer seems to be in view, however, at the edge of everyone's vision, there seems to be a hazy blue aura around the party.

Perhaps it would seem that there's only one thing chasing the party, but that is not the case. This time, a pair of beams shoots down, at Deunan and Armand, however, the faith held by Armand forms its own shield about the two, staving the blasts to the side. Sora, riding on the far right, is far less fortunate. A third beam fires down, and impales the torso of his horse at an angle, sending both the horse and him cartwheeling through the air and be lost from view as the party rides on.

There is a lull, and no more beams rain down. Those that dare to take a glance back, and upwards, sees a peculiar Linsemptus form. Not humanoid, this Linsemptus doesn't even look like an animal, taking the form of an iridescent, pale white eye, with a chaotic iris of swirling colour, a pitch black pupil, and jagged crack-like shapes appearing like eyelashes around it. It simply hovers in the air, by means unexplainable, simply staring unnervingly. Despite the speed of the horses, it seems like the eye doesn't move relative to the party. The blue aura that could be faintly seen before is now visible, obscuring the form of the Linsemptus and the sky behind it. In the distance, there can be seen five other eyes, hovering closer. Two in particular seem a bit too close.

"Don't look at it!" The Scout shouts, "Pay attention to the road!"

Even if there is a lull, pursuit still continues. No later than after the shout, three beams rain down at Dusk, Akihiko and Xira. Thankfully, none of the three hit, merely striking the ground beside them in a cacophonous roar. Then one falls, hitting the side of Yin's horse. It whinnies in pain, but continues going running, now spurred on by fear. A fifth beam sails down, missing Farah and her horse. However, the sixth beam strikes true, striking Dev's horse and nearly unsaddling him, leaving a considerably weakened mount to carry him.

There is another lull, as the eyes fall behind. Yet, with a persistence and will that cannot be known, they return within seconds, and fire a final volley simultaneously. Three of these blasts hit the ground, failing to strike anyone. However, the final three bring with them death, and so three others fall. One rips the muscle the leg off of Yin's already hurt horse, and he tumbles to the ground. Another one strikes Dev's horse, the angle just enough to pierce the horse's neck, and so he too falls. Finally, the last one blasts through Farah's arm at an angle, striking the horse in the head. Both fall, and are lost.

Yet again, the eyes fall behind, but just when it seems they would come within range of the party again, they stop, and simply hover, at a standstill, as everyone's horses gallop away.

"Alright, I think we can go at a slower pace now," The Scout says, "I don't think the horses will last much longer at a full-out run anyway."

Indeed, in truth to her words, the party's horses feel a little weaker from the run, quivering slightly with the effort to push their body to its limit.

((The time that has elapsed is 15 rounds; light warhorses have a Con of 17, which is effectively their running limit unless you push them. For NPCs, four of them have been lost: Dev, Farah, Yin and Sora. Please post regarding how hard you wish to push your horses, or offer suggestions as to how you wish to proceed, or even if you wish to stop temporarily to converse at greater detail.))

If you really want it to end, take responsibility for your character's actions and find a way to make amends. That is every player's duty, for any character: to take responsibility for their actions rather than stating excuses. So they have this or that flaw, well, who gave it to them in the first place? The player!

Even those who have pride will humble themselves when they have made a critical error.

If you're going to give up on the character's ability to make amends, then you might as well have them commit suicide so that you can make a new one.

The feeling of earth beneath Shianna's feet gives way to the cobblestone roads of the town. It isn't a good feeling to her. True, it is still stone, and stone is of the ground, but it doesn't feel... right. Shianna's breathing quickens just slightly. Too close. The buildings feel as though they are leaning in toward her. Some might say that in the forest, the trees can be so close together that it feels they're surrounding oneself, closing in, but for Shianna, it is the opposite. The trees still hold spaces between them, and are majestic plants, bearers of life. Buildings are far wider than most trees, and are made of death. Dead wood is used to make them. Death is part of nature, but this isn't natural at all. The life of the wood isn't being returned to the ground. It just stays, stagnant, encompassing.

Beside her, Meera leans against her leg, comfortingly. Shianna gently runs her hand over Meera's fur. It is comforting, but a bit of panic still can be seen at the edges of Shianna's eyes.

After what seems like an hour, although it couldn't have been that long, the party reaches the tavern. Looking inside, Shianna almost dares to hope that it is deserted, but that is not the case.

"That means you'll have to stay out here." Shianna says gently to Meera, who nods in response.

They enter, except Meera. If Shianna were to be honest with herself, she probably would've wanted to stay outside too. Inside, the enclosure is even more defined than simply in the town, with the ceiling just a few feet away, and the walls surrounding on all four sides. Unconsciously, Shianna inches closer to Neri, her hands shaking just slightly. Shianna knows she doesn't even look like she belongs there. A feeling that is confirmed, right after they had taken seats at the vacant table, when the waitress came over. Shianna can tell, by the slightly shocked and perhaps slightly disapproving glance she receives from her, she did not really look presentable by people's standards. Her rough appearance, with her long, dark brown hair tangled into a mane about her head, probably still with a couple of leaves within it, and splotches of dirt upon her face and clothing.

"Just water please." Shianna says, her voice a little bit faint, "Umm, and can I have two bowls of stew?" she asks, thinking to Meera outside.

I don't see the flaw 'Rudeness', or 'Hasty', or 'Unthoughtful' on her character sheet, and it is incredibly rude to act without thought or sense. Had she (the character) intended to be polite, introductions would have come first, then an indication of why she is present, and finally a subtle request that she be included in the division of the spoils. Not only was the latter done first and foremost, but it was also a demand.

Only kindness will receive kindness. Irritating behaviour receives tolerance, up to a point, as determined by one's patience. Our patience has long been spent long before this current incarnation.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If one expects to be involved with the party of ANY game, meaning to be a considered as one of the allies, entitled to their share of the spoils, or whatever, then one should NOT make a character that no one wants to deal with.

Given the circumstances with bizarre creatures wandering around, I think Shianna would bring Meera with her, because she'd be worried if she simply left her; although Meera would be able to take care of herself, if many of those creatures were to attack, well, Meera wouldn't be able to rest if she were to have to keep running from them.

Just my thoughts

The shadow with blood on its hand,
Its skills set at a high demand,
So long as one can pay its price,
It will kill, with a heart of ice,
So long as it is the will of the dice.

Does the shadow have a heart, or not one at all?
It seemingly only knows to give Death's call.
Still, in the light, one comes to wonder,
That the shadow still holds something under,
Perhaps a heart that is torn asunder.

Hidden from both the darkness and the light,
The shadow's heart exists with its own plight.
Unknown, unseen, can one come to understand,
What is behind the icy terror of shadows grand,
And heal their heart with a compassionate hand?

Only time knows, and only time will tell,
If their heart can even become well.

Subject: Names…

From a discussion over MSN between Ginafae, and Jozan1, Kaelyn and me, we've decided to bring up the need for names again, specifically for the main party and the keep.

Since the keep is located within the Starspire mountain range, we've tentatively decided upon the name of Starspire Refuge for the keep.

At the same time, the keep provides an apparent unifying factor for the main group, being the location in which we can be based. There's a number of variations on the name for it, but basically, they have the format of 'The _____ of Starspire' (or, by rearrangement, 'The Starspire _____')

The best suggestions we came up with were:

The Alliance of Starspire
The Communion of Starspire
The Fellowship of Starspire
The Lights of Starspire

Alternatively, if we wanted to, we could use Sib-kun's previous suggestion (it'll have to be updated, of course):

The Splendiferous Team Roughly Led by a Drow, the Members of Which Include an Albino Super Gnome, a Warlock, a Human Eillistreean, A Half-Elven Woman-Who-Survives-Burning-Buildings-By-Leaping-Out-Windows, and Some Sort of Musician; Former Members Include Fey Bards, Worshipers of Pelor, a Woman of the Forest, and a Wizard and Her Gecko; Sponsered by Bart, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Farmer.

Obviously, there's many other options, but please post comments/suggestions and which one you like for the main party as well as for the keep.

If people are keen on making a group compilation card, then perhaps there should be thought put into making one where people to scan their signature and email it to a 'compiler' who sets it into a physical card and sends it to the recipient. Of course, people who aren't able to scan won't be able to add their signature unless the physical card is sent to them, and it's not as nice as having your own ink on the paper, but it would be easier to accomplish. At least, if a signature is lost through the email, it is far easier to resend

Copycat takes a deep breath, ready to change for the situation... until something catches her eye.

"Oooh." She says, watching the paper bits above her, her tail swishing and her stance shifting just slightly.

When they drop, it looks as though she will pounce upon them, but then suddenly she stands up. As she does so, her form changes, converting to that of a young woman, Asian, with long, straight black hair, glasses, and violet eyes. She is wearing attire consisting of a dark blue ankle-length skirt, a semi-formal shirt and sweater.

"Oh, I'm thirsty. Be back in a moment." She says simply, her voice far more subdued than in her feline form.

As far as everyone knows, she's only been in this form once before, and that is when she first came to the HQ. There is something slightly unnerving about this form too, although it is difficult to place what it is. Feeling the change in atmosphere, Copycat smiles reassuringly, but it quickly vanishes. Yet, in that smile, everyone could swear they saw something, something perhaps also seen off of cliché horror movies: a set of vampire fangs.

Copycat quickly excuses herself, going into the kitchen. There is a sound of a lock being opened, which must be the cabinet that Copycat had essentially demanded she have in the beginning. This is followed by the sound of the tap running, into a glass. Perhaps the sensitive of hearing can hear something like the cap from a prescribed medicine bottle being popped off. Then everything is put away, and Copycat reappears in the room, still in her 'human form'.

"I don't mind my paws, but sometimes having hands is a bit easier..." She says simply.

It isn't the first time this has happened, where she has opened her cupboard before. It occurs every five hours, if one were to pay attention. Still, everyone has their quirks... perhaps this is just Copycat's, if one can put aside her upbeat, yet flexible and changeable personality.

"Oh, do you have any recordings of Gibson's voice?" Copycat asks of Angela.

Subject: Alright, who let the cat in?

Copycat was curled up on the sofa in what she called her 'real' form, seemingly fast asleep, when Angela came in. Her form is that of a humanoid with distinct feline features, specifically facial structure, eyes, ears, a tail, and even fur akin to a tabby cat's and paws, probably complete with claws. She stayed seemingly asleep while Angela outlined the mission, however, twitches of her cat ears indicated that she had heard, or were they twitching in response to the paper being rustled about? Either way, her eyes snap open, staring and watching the paper.

Eventually, of course, it circled its way around to her, thankfully the last one to receive it. Now, a person would take it, read it, and pass it on or return it to Angela, but there is more than one reason why she is called 'Copycat'. Instead, she snatches the paper with one of her feet-paws, tosses it up toward her hands-paws, and, rather than catch it, shreds it from some strange instinct. She nearly upturns the sofa as she chases after the larger bits, shredding them into smaller bits. In no time at all, there are small bits of paper confetti throughout the lounge, with Copycat sitting back on the sofa, looking about for bits she might have missed.

"Hehe, that was fun!" She says, her tail swishing back and forth.

Suddenly, her tail stops swishing, and she turns to look at the others, her face altogether serious, "So..."

"What are you feeling up to for supper tonight?"

Often, if a cat is tossed a sheet of paper, they will consider it as a toy and shred it and chase after the pieces.

She's basically a cat in humanoid form with some other powers that let her blend in as needed. Or at least, that's what one would deduce by her real personality, which is very much akin to a cat's. She does like cats too, I'll admit...

"I wasn't the one trying to take everything for herself." Linnix says in response to Atharam, showing her hands, which hold nothing but her bow, "Just so you know."

Linnix winces; one would think that the crude increments of the goblins wouldn't be an issue because they're so pathetic, but they do certainly add up. She looks over toward Aelistae, seemingly more frail than Linnix had seen her before, but then again, even Xaris had been pushed to his limit, so what else could be expected?

"Thank goodness..." Linnix murmurs, letting the bow in her hands drop to the ground, before rushing forward to embrace Aelistae. Linnix's embrace is gentle, perhaps slightly hesitant, for she knows how sore her own body is.

"I... I was worried, Sister." Linnix says softly.
