Shandra takes up the bow and quickly draws and arrow and notches it. She lifts the bow and aim at the first row of of ants targeting the one on her right (Row 1,#5 counting from her left to right.) She keeps the staff close, though a wall of thorns would not do much to stop these giant ants, whith there exoskeleton acting a armor.

"For the Light!" she cries out.

Subject: Lorae

"What brings you here, Julius?" Lorae nods to Vatta and smiles, she was well aware of the young woman's reticence in taking in others, out of the blue, yet, that seemed to be the way that newcomers joined them.

She sighed as Brianna left and was glad that Xuor joined her, it had become a habit that no one went about alone. The Danger poised by the Dark One was to great. Brianna of all of those prophesize, was the one fated to meet the Dark One with the Sword of Truth. The Amazon and herself were all that was left of the first group that set out from Netheril’s Tower on a quest to free the Elven Lord, who was none other that Taran, King of the Elves. During that quest they began to draw in others that were also mentioned in the prophecies. All died and other had taken their places. Vatta, and Xuor were now tied to the prophecies as the Child of the Streets, and the Child of the Wilds, names held by others before them. For a while Lorae thought that name was hers, but it fit the ranger better. Highnar had been the Child of Golden Hands, she missed the dwarf, though not as much as Brianna had, the two of them had been fighting grand partners. Brianna was the Child of the Warrioresses, others were named who had not yet become a part of the group and others that had been named were no more. Jerreth was the Child of the Sword, He had been killed when they first came through to this world, slain by the Death Knight. So had been her closest companion, the Uncrowned King of Stone Holt, Logan, who had been the Child of Golden Hands before Highnar.

Lorae let out a tiny sigh as she remembered those who had died in their quest. She looked about the table and wondered who else might fail to survive.

Hey Kaylen-- We did not fail to get away, Throndek just ran before we succeded. It game was tough we scored--but following good sense we let the Wookies win--Oops we let the Orcs win.

Elessare knew the name of the Demon already, and had surmised someone powerful was leading the Orcs, Goblins, and Ogres. Thyat could have been out key to finally succeeding

Brownyn, Elendil, and Fate traveled in silence toward’s the south, the sound of the horn alerting them to the possibility that help might be nearby. Another reason, was that with Bolikar’s withdrawing of his troops into a singular place, once they could afford a glance to know the roads were safe, perhaps Brownyn would get her wish after all, and they would simply leave without further incident, and get back on their way... Something in Elendil’s eyes however told the young waif of a mage that was somehow not what she was thinking. And Fate, well, the abrasive man had already made clear his intentions. To kill Bolikar at any cost, by any means necessary.

As soon as Fate had led Bronwyn, and Elendil to the edge of the treeline to the north, they stopped as they watched a little less than two score of goblinoids and their offshoot kin, mulled about outside the northern gate, slowly filtering in through the portcullis and into an open square.

“Bolikar is in there somewhere, as are likely many of his recent captives, would-be heroes who came unprepared or overconfident,” Fate said grimly. “It is in there that my destiny takes me; in there that I find my quarry. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated, and rewarded by my trade coster, but I do not deign to ask you to endanger your lives for those of captured strangers, or myself. If you seek to bypass this whole ordeal, then now is your opportune time. Head west, then south, skirting the keep, a bridge will take you south over the river and into less dangerous lands. Either way, I must prepare to do what I was paid to do.”

With that, Fate tightens his gloves, and raises his dark hood once more, blending in with his surroundings even more so than his natural skills provided. Reaching for his armor, he pulls out one of the studs from his leather, and from a hidden compartment in the heal of his boot he pulls a small crystal, sliding it into the hole where his stud was, between the folds of his leather in a thin space, before affixing the faux-stud like a cap. “I need your answer ladies. Even if you chose not to enter with me, you there, with your magics, perhaps a distraction to allow me entry?”

"As much as I hate the idea, a forest fire between the cave and the keep might deter the reinforcements from getting to the Keep." She wets a finger to test the direction of the wind, she would need to know where best to start the fires that she and Brownwyn would have to set.

Topic: Land of Xenophobia
Subject: Shandra

The Light had brought her here for some purpose and from what she had experienced at her arrival let her know that the people of this place were in dire need of enlightenment. The society of this land was in serious trouble. The whole concept of the Arena was just a way to perpetuate intolerance, and racism.

Shandra was the bane of the Black Hoods, for she never showed emotion. In the inimical way of the Masters of the Open Hand and other Martial Arts, she surprises the Black Hoods when first tried to get her to take up a weapon and defend herself. She suffered their abuse without comment or rancor. They soon learned why she did not need a weapon when one swaggering Black Hood thought to humiliate her, he and they soon learned to stay away from her feet and hands. Try as they might to get her to wear armor and take up a weapon she only accepts a staff and little else for their style of weapons were not what she was trained to use. Her demeanor frustrated the Black Hoods, though it was not in her to gloat over their faults and mistakes, there was a certain satisfaction that they kept their distance.

She was either training, or she was meditating, when she was not eating and sleeping. Her cell was not unlike living quarters in the temple where she trained. There was a sort of solace to be taken from being left alone, giving her time to meditate and pray.

She said nothing when the Giant Dwarf that choose a team to fight in the Arena, included her. She only bowed and accepted his choice. The Light allowed all to make choices. How one chose was how they were judged.

Finally came a day when they were brought before the Giant Dwarf,

ThunnGarr studied the eyes of each of the five Humans and two Elves, intently scrutinizing the looks of sheer determination on the faces of the three men and four women who now stood before him as equals in the fight for their freedom.

"We have six weeks to train together for the Emancipation Sand Dance,” thundered ThunnGarr the Mighty in unusually subdued tones. "Then we have another two weeks of proper preparation before we face whatever forces the Dark Arena Consortium has assembled against us!"

"You seven have been chosen to accompany me in our fight for freedom, while my friend Ollie serves as the announcer and watches our backs!"

"Two Knights, a Cleric, a Monk, a Paladin, a Ranger and a Wizard teamed with a Barbarian and a Bard in quest of our freedom from the Dark Arena!"

"The odds are stacked against us! Warrants for our deaths are expected to be fulfilled on the sands of the Dark Arena!"

"Yet we do have an unknown benefactor! One who has promised to supply certain rare and valuable items to aid us in our fight for freedom!"

"In exchange for our services for a period of time once we have overcome the odds thrown against us by the Dark Arena Consortium!"

"This is what everyone should agree to be a fair price and a fairer bargain to provide us an edge in our quest for freedom!"

"I spoke to each of you individually a mere month ago! Now I have the honor of introducing you as teammates who will train together for the next six weeks!"

"I present to you Sir Yder the Knight; Sirae Amberlyn Foxfire the self proclaimed Knight in training; Cunning Fox the Cleric; Shandra the Monk; Ariane Arvendre the Paladin; the Ranger Ulrich Orico Uppsdrada the Silver Bear and Bumble Brew the Wizard."

"Now take a few moments to get acquainted before we begin training for the fight of our lives!"

Shandra looked about the group and took in there faces and demeanor. She understood what was at stake, and she for one was determined to be free.

Six weeks of training together has flown by. Each of you has shown remarkable progress in learning to work together while trusting the instincts and abilities of your teammates.

Now with a mere two weeks remaining before the Emancipation Sand Dance, the off world gladiators teamed with ThunnGarr the Mighty [not to mention the Bard announcer Ollie Gory watching their backs] had gathered together in a secluded meeting room somewhere deep within the bowels of the Dark Arena to receive their Special Gifts!

Special Gifts courtesy of the mysterious Merchant who had pledged to assist them from his own personal Treasure trove with the understanding that the survivors would agree to accept a Special Assignment to Aid the Merchant in solving a particular Business Problem that Only Brave Hearted Adventurers Could Possibly Solve!

The mysterious Merchant had connections who owed him some favors! Therefore, he personally selected the following items from his vast Treasure trove to enhance the survival chances of each competitor.

Plus it was explained in detail that some of these Special Gifts were selected to help equip each competitor for the dangers and obstacles they would face in the future when aiding the Merchant in solving his Business Problem!

"You Must Use These Items Wisely!” cautioned the Bard. "Especially Items With Charges! You Must First Survive The Dark Arena! But You Must Use These Items Wisely! Your Survival Depends Upon Using These Items Wisely!"

Shandra accepts the gifts, Bracers of Deflection, Staff of the Woodlands [50 Charges], Javelin of Lightning [10 – each is consumed in the attack], Manual of Bodily Health [+3 to Constitution], Manual of Quickness of Action [+3 to Dexterity] and immediately sets to studying the tomes. She quickly begins to accustom herself to the weight and balance of the staff and learns the command words for the magics. It could be of great value, if she first only practiced with it as a staff and nothing more, others might not learn of its hidden potential, there could be spies for the other groups watching.

Shandra continued to prepare her body, mind, and soul for this test the Light had placed before her.

Subject: Elendil

As the man looks up at his would be rescuers, Elendil mentions the need to move quickly, but the man grabs her by the arm and holds her firm catching her eye. “You shouldn’t have freed me. Now I’ll never get near enough to Bolikar to kill him. I don’t know what you ladies think you’re doing playing hero, but you’re likely to get yourselves killed out here.” The man gives a shrill whistle and released Elendil’s arm. From the skies shot a streak across the moon and into the clearing came a hawk, its feathers a rich brown save for the single golden tuft of feathers just above the tail. Swooping down in front of the figure, the bird dropped a set of keys, before landing on his shoulder, where he petted it affectionately.

“I could have gotten out at any time.” The man reiterates dangling the keys. “But what’s done is done, and this place is not safe. Let us make haste.”

With that the trio, along with Buttercup hastened down the forest path away from the mine, and closer to the Keep, where they sought refuge off the beaten trail much to Buttercup’s dismay as branches and pine needles scratched at her sides.

The figure looked towards the two women, whose eyes showed they wanted answers, probably to more questions than he could answer, but he owed them at least a proper introduction. “Consider yourselves as having a brush with Fate, for that be my name. Fate Damascus, though certainly you ladies don’t look to be the types that belong in these parts. As his grey eyes fell over Elendil he wondered why the elf had left the Wealdath, lest she was one of their scouts, surveying the swelling of goblinkind so near their borders, but the other one, seemed more apt to be in a library or school than out in the foothills of the mountains with her joke of a pony.

“I am of the Black Claw Mercantile company, sent upon compensation to rid these hills of Bolikar, the head of this verminous body of filth. Knowing that combating his entire force would likely be suicide, I allowed myself to be captured to be brought to Bolikar for interrogation, torture or whatever the brute had planned. It was there I planned to strike.” Fate looked to the south where more Drums blared, and a second horn answered the first with a series of short sharp blasts.

“It would seem however that you and your companions have interrupted that plan. How many of there are you? By the sounds of things you’ve brought a sizeable force to contest Bolikar’s might?”

Elendil listened to the man. "Sorry I saved you," came her flat voiced reply. "Sorry too, to inform you, there is no army here, only Bronwyn and I. Though something has stirred up the enemy, it was not us."

Elendil then holds up a gauntleted arm and hoots, there is no sound of rustling feathers as the arrival of the hawk had caused. Instead a looming speckled grey and black shape appeared out of the darkness, spread his wings to break in the air and extended massive clawed feet to take hold of Elendil’s arm. He lands and shook out the feathers before closing her wings and looking at the hawk. At least the Eagle Owl was staying high and out of sling and bow range.

She stroked the bird’s head and gave a few scratches about the side of his head.

Suddenly the sky lighted in a lurid red centered about the Keep.

Suddenly, in response to the resounding horns, from the rooftop of the stronghold shot a multitude of lights, fireworks it would seem, that exploded into brilliant red hued flashes of light that lingered in the sky surrounding the keep, illuminating the area below in a crimson glow for 50 yards in any direction. The Keep was officially on high alert now, and something, someone, or perchance, a multitude of each had the goblin forces astir. Amidst the crackling explosions of the fireworks formed a massive face of a Orc with Ogrish features. In a rumbling voice it bellowed across the land in a rather surprisingly intelligent, and understandable dialect of common. “Return to the Keep my Minions. Return to regroup, where we will then march out in force, and stomp these urchins which dare defy the will of Bolikar, the will of Gruumsh! The time for humans is nearing an end, and their hit and run tactics shall fall under the mighty foot of the united might of the six-clans! Return to the Keep, from where we shall surge forth like a wave and sweep aside those in the north, south, east and west for the insignificant insects they are. Bolikar see’s all, as Gruumsh wishes it. Bolikar crushes all who stand before him!”

“Ha!” Laughs Eledil lightly, “If Bolikar sees all like the One-Eyed Bastard he speaks of, then he would have foreseen us.”

If nothing else, this decided the final choice of their direction. “We go straight south,” they had been going southeast, “toward the road, I can not afford any more injury, I have used up my Healing Belt.”

She estimates south and points turns to face Talon that direction. “South, stay close.” she tells him and she lifts her arm to help launch the big owl into the air. On silent wings he disappears through the trees the direction Elendil had pointed him.

Elessarae looks about and takes in the site, and their opponents. There big challengs was to use what they had against the Orcs, in this case the ropes and the chain. Possibly they could use they to held trip the Orcs as they were running. Two people on each side of the chain could use it to trip the orcs. Elessarae looked about for a good size rock to tie to the end of ther rope to use it as a flail of sorts.

All they could hope for is staying out of their way and not getting further damage. She wanted to hold her magic in reserve and not reveal it so openly.

Elessarae shares her ideas with the others.

"We can't aford to get hurt, nor should we reveal our magics. Let them think they kept us for regaining our spells. I still have a couple left from the day of the fight that I did not use. But they are best used when all these others are not watching."

"I am hoping to use speed to keep out of their way. And becaause we are still tied up I am going to yell out a to a deity to free us, then we can seem to pull ourselves out of our ropes, We have to cover our being free somehow."

Elessare waits until she sees the Orcs positon themselves on the field.

At the right moment, when it seems that the game is about to begin Elessare raise her heard and shouts to the heavens.

"Shinara, Therassor, Falloes! Free us!"

Studying the cage for the best and fastest way to get the captive out, she pauses to activate the belt again, expending 1 more charge.

Indeed they had to hurry, but to where. Listening to the horns that the Goblins and Gnolls sounded were different than the horn she had heard from the direction of the Keep. That one had the sound of a well made instrument, compared the the crude sounding horns of the enemy.

Could there be an attack going on at the Keep?

That might mean that there were other fighting the Goblins and that would mean more protection for Bronwyn. AS it was, the horns and drums seemigly had roused the enemy to battle and trying to make their way south might mean fighting their way through who knew how many enemies. Maybe they could heaad for the Keep and hope to find friends.
