Cerric quickly examines Logan's wounds. It did, indeed look like the fighter at his feet had taken on the worst of the enemy. Maybe he had also been in the fight in the meadow and chased the Orc here to do battle.

Cerric then entones a prayer to his Deity and casts a cure moderate on Logan's second largest wound and the two more cure lights to finish the healing.

"That should hold you together for now, Logan, s that your correct name?" asks Cerric putting out a hand to help Logan rise.

"This is my Companion Vatta," he continues nodding towards Vatta, "She volunteered to guard my back which I very musch appreciate. I am no fighter but I am a healer and a bit of a mage."

Hmmmm yes (remembering that) Then I suppose I would have done something else. But that is up to you if I change my post.

Though I could easily find up how things are if the Goblin runs from me or yells for backup or both.

I did go back into my CS and found reasons why I was probably choosen for this job, my Languages; Common and Elven, Draconic, Dwarf, Goblin, Orc, Sylvan, Terran, +? Have not decided which would the last one maybe Undercommon.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. DMs are always complaining about that.

Now what was I thinking...could be I am suspicious of seeing a goblin, because I was sent to look into what the goblin's were doing in the mountains, that I can see from the village.

Though I spoke to him in Elven, it could be that I speak Goblin and will know what he is saying and if he calls for help, then I am gone, back to Flame Keep for the cavalry.

AND there are other options, but that I am not going to devulge, not wanting to let the DM get IDEAS.

"Lorae! Lorae!" calls Flame suddenly appearing next to the head of the Paladin, "Logan is all bloody. Come quick."

At the point Lorae rides forward to where the tracks lead, dismounted and motioned the others to do the same.

"Vatta loop your reins on my saddle," she comments to the young woman.

"Cerric, your healing skills may also be needed." Then she heads off into the underbrush following Flame and leading the way for the others to follow.

The moment the green surrounded Cerric and Vatta, the sounded of their horses hooves was different. Lt was like they were galloping on a smooth road.

It is soon noticed, by both Cerric and Vatta, that the grass is bending out of their way, and they quickly reach the forest verge and pass through it and under the great trees of the old Elven forest that once covered the land all the way to Cormyr.

The Elven lady did not slacken her pace, but galloped on, undergrowth and trees seemed to move from their path. They galloped over fallen logs as if they were not there.

Dropping down to a small tributary of the Ashbara River they galloped they passed an astonished group of Orcs and Goblins preparing to move out for battle.

Some 5 minutes later they came to an open glade and at this point Flame circled back shouting, "Here, Here, Here."

Lorae stops Dancer and puts the gem back into its place. The green glow dies leaving the three standing about 20 feet from four Orc bodies with their heads removed. At this point Flame takes off for the trees ahead and to the right of the bodies.

"Hurry, Hurry, there is fighting." The dragonette calls out while turning around over the three and taking up his forward flight again.

Elessarae binds the woman a good day, but not before offering some thoughts she had been working on since the incidents with the Maous had been revealed.

"Please, I know I am not versed in magics, but one thing has come to mind as I tried to puzzle out the strange occurances of the Maous. I have heard of rats, squirrels, rabbits and then the owls being mutated. Could someone have tainted some food stuff, like feed grain. Rats and rabbits and even squirrels could have eaten it, and we all know owl eat all of those. So far it has seem to affect only warm-blooded animals, HAve any cold-bloodied animal been affected?"

"I was also thinking information needs to be gathered as to when, where, and what appeared mutated. Mapped and timed so to speak, to see if the pattern of plant eaters to meat eaters fits. You might point out to the MAge that collaboration with others on this matter might prove more fruitful. Sillarian is not that may days ride from here."

"I would like to have been able to work on the problem, but I have been set another quest. "

She gathers the reins of the bitless bridle and mounts Gharion, patting him on the neck. "Sorry, fellow, we have more road before us to find a place to stay.

Turning back to the woman, "Thank you for your directions."

Most of the trip Elessarae was distressed by what had happend at the Tower, that an elven traveler could not be given a place at a table for dinner and a pallet in the great hall if there were no rooms available. It was the most basic of hospitalities, even humans did the same.

Elessare rode until she came to the village the woman had spoken of. She is startled by the appearence of a goblin. Staring at the inattentive goblin Elessarae takes stock of the village and looks for the largest building, or house at which to make inquiries as to lodging. Before the Goblin disappears into the building, she calls out

"Ho, Goblin, is there an inn un this village?"

The Orc Leader burst through :he brush as the edge of the inner line of trees where Logan had set himself.

Logan swings, using an Attack of Opportunity. His(Longsword +3 (Flaming burst, Keen), #1) hits (15+11) AC 26 for 11 HP of damage to the OL’s left arm. Unfortunately for the Orc he was right handed. Fortunately for Logan the Orc, who had a higher initiative lost his 1st round actions because he was surprised.

The Orc leader bellows in rage and his eyes go red with hate. Brianna and Highnar hear the raging roar of the Orc as they finish off the fallen in the field.

(Round 1-3 are for Logan in the trees but please read as there is some information for both Brianna and Highnar.)

Round 1

Logan’s longswords flashes out is rapid succession; his next strike cut deeply into the right arm) AC 24 for 11 HP followed by his offhanded blade catching the Orc in the head, AC 22 for 13 and his third swing is a goes wide as the Orcs swings about (rolled 1)

Logan hits again AC 30 for 15 HP of damage in the left shoulder.
Blades whirling Logan hits AC 23) for 8 hp of damage in the abdomin.

OL -71 Logan -44

By now Brianna and Highnar have taken care of the dying Orcs and have separated heads for bodies. They can clearly hear the ORc Leader's raging battle cry.

OL -90 Logan -62

Round 4

Orc Leader has taken heavy damage, but ius catching up on Logan even though he only gets 2 attacks while Logan gets 3 attacks. The difference is The Orc hits harder. Which he does again and hits AC 25 for 19 HP of damage to Logan hitting his in the waist
Orc Leader hits AC 16 and misses again.

Logan knows he can not take much more of this battering, but damage from wounds in his legs and hips making running impossible. Logan hits AC 29 for 11 HP of damage in the area of the heart and the hulking brute waivers on his feet, then his eyes roll back into his head as he drops to the ground. Not wasting a stroke Logan’s next swing catches the Orc on the way down as he hits AC 30 for 11 HP of damage in the shoulder. Logan’s last swing catches the Orc in the head again hitting AC 25 for 11 HP of damage . There is not the slightest twitch from the Orc as he hits the ground heavily.

OL -123 out of 106 Logan -81 out of 114

If Brianna and Highnar hurried to the sounds of battle after making sure that the Orcs in the meadow were dead, they would arrive as the Orc Leader falls and Logan is barely standing with wounds all over his body.

Subject: How to Get Kicked out of a Keep

Gee...at least it was not another attack of the MAOGS, but really, a horse in the house. All poor Elessarae wanted was a place to sleep for the night and a warm meal, then the reaction of the guards lets her kow that that is probably not going to happen, and THEN Comrade comes it and seals our fate. There will be no dinner, bed, or breakfast for us in this keep.

As I have been rereading passed posts an idea has begun to form. Elessarae has a growing theory about how all these MAOGS got started.

Elessarae, hand still on the colt's neck pushes him around and heads back outside.

"I understand about the MAOUS (Pronounced may-ous), as I call them, Mutant Animals of Unusual Size. It is how I came to have Comarade. His mother, whose foot got stuck in some tree roots in a river, was attacked by three great owls with leathery feathers. One of them spouted some demonic gibberish that affected her as well as myself. I had to fight off the crushing sense of despair and hopelessness. I was able to prevail, but the mare was greatly traumatized, she lead me to her colt, and the after she communed with him she went off into the forest."

It still hurt to remember the look the mare gave her as she cast one look back at her colt and and herself. A sad sigh escaped Elessarae's lips.

"By the way, Urvanial is the High Druid in Sillarion. I took him one of the dead owls. While I was there an entire flock of demonic owls tried invading his tower. Luckily the Captain of the Guard that took me there, a dwaven servant of the High Druid, and myself were able to keep the MAOUS at bay until Urvanial was able to cast a great fire spell, and killed them all."

"I thought is was strange at the time to be attacked in the Druid's tower, but is seems that whoever is causing this transformation did not want Urvanial to examine the dead bird. While riding here I came to a village that had just killed a MOAUS squirrel, it had horns strouting from its shoulders. I told them to take the body to Urvanial."

Elessarae nods to the guards that Comrade had gone passed. "Sorry," she says and she continues walking to where Gharion is tied.

"You might meet up with a Lady of Megilindar Nost, who has taking up the quest to look into the problem."

Elessarae stops beside Gharion and looks to the young woman. "Do you know of a place where I could stay for the night? It could be a stable as I need to get them both feed and a place to rest, we have come a long way and quickly, and there has been little time for them to graze. Or is there a nearby village?"

Elessarae's stomach rumbled lowly as she spoke of food. To save time she had cut down on her meals. Most of her supplies were down to dries fruits and meat. She had been going to restock at the village where they spoke of possessed horses, but had decided to move on as quickly as possible.

She begins to untie Gharion, since her asking about a place to stay here was skoffed at by the guards.

Elessarae knew she was facing a man of some importance much like Urvanial, the High Druid. She reached up and put a soothing hand on Comrade's neck, so that the young Moonhorse understood she was not upset with him.

"Comrade is here because I am his guardian, or...more like his Foster Mother." Simply stated it was the truth, but it sounded strange even to Elessare's ears.

"Urvanial indicated that his mother probably told him to stay with me, and he is doing just that. Urvanial also warned that he was stubborn."

"Please forgive him, he is young and I believe he feels bound to stay with me, because he climbed the stair in Urvanial's Tower on my heels and was only stopped by the ladder to the tower's top room. I also allowed Comrade to roam freely in my family home in Sillarion."

Elessasrae sudden remembered she had not introduced herself to the Mage, for that was what she thought he was. "I am Elessarae Isiliri of Megilindar Nost."

So stating her name she had also stated she was a full Bladesinger. Before her final test she was Elesssarae Isiliri, Cadet at Megilindar Nost. She looked about at the seasoned warriors about her and wondered if anyone was about to comment, Aren't you a little young for a Bladesinger.

In Field...

Lorae turns to the two with a tiny smile playing on her lips, "I would be grateful for you assistance, I am sure Brianna, Highnar and Logan will be in the thick of things." with that she guides her horse from the line of wagons remaining. "We will follow Flame."

With that said the tiny dragonette launches himself from her shoulder and flies ahead of them to the right about 20 or so degrees.

The pace quickens and the trio follow a beeline course toward the even growing line of trees.
-----

In Forest...

As Brianna complete her coup de grac of the downed Orcs and Highnar look about at the four bodies, Logan stand ready as the Orc crashes into his area. He did not expect Logan and is surprised. his eyes glitter with rage as he lifts her serrated edged falchion, but not before Logan's first strike.

In the Forest...Round 3

Brianna drops her bow and draws her twin swords, Thunder and Lightning, as she moves in on the two fallen Orcs on her way towards the big Orc running away. Her keen swords slide quickly from her back, gleaming brightly whenever the dappled light of the forest touched them She is intent on going after the Orc leader when one of the wounded Orcs breaks from Highnar and heads for cover. She swings and feels the blade sweep through the air with such precision that she way sure that she would hit and hit hard.

Brianna Natural 20 (20+21) (AC 41) for 18 HP (13 S, magic + 5 shock) of damage Critical threat to AC 38 , total damage 30 HP (S, magic)

Orc 4 has received 30 hp of S, magic, shock damage (automatic hit) (critical hit). Orc 4 has died.

Xuor, never being one to waste ammo or use it if not needed after he pulls the third arrow from his quiver he goes through his usual ritual of notching it and sighting down the arrow at his target, this time however he will hold back releasing the missile for the split second it takes for the other arrows to either hit their mark or fly off harmlessly. If either one of the first two miss he will release the third, but if both hit their mark he will not fire the third and will prepare to leave the tree.

As nimble fingers notch the arrow and Xuor draws it back Xuor hits (13+1 AC 31 for 7 HP of damage in the left arm. Notching, drawing and releasing again Xuor hits (2+13) AC 15 for 4 HP of damage in the neck.

With both his axes in hand Hignar began swinging the moment he landed among the Orcs..."For Moradin!!” is still ringing in the air as Highnar’s axes spin before him. Highnar hits (14+19) AC 33 for 13 HP of damage in the thick neck of his fallen victim. He follows with his off handed weapon and hits (12+14) AC 26 for 11 HP of damage in the head burying the thick blade in the Orc’s thick skull where it sticks. This throws off Highnar’s 3rd strike which is a Natural 1 (1+9) (AC 10) and Orc 2 is not hit.

Pre-Round 4: The Orc Leader, not the only Orc standing, plows into the under brush under the trees heading straight for Logan.

In the Field...

Just as the thinck forest's edge become more discernable in the late afternoon haze, wagons and groups of fighters begin to peel off from the main group.

Finally the ramaining group halts. Lorae turns in her saddle having left Cerric and Vatta to their own conversations as thet militia and the Riders moved in on Eventide. "I have friends in the forest who even now fight the Orcs, I need to go to them."

Some hours later Elessare arrived at a river covered with floating flower petals, the River of Floating Flowers. Someday she would like to go and be a part of the ceremony, but for now the road she had to follow bent northwards, passing the Flower Castle completely, aiming towards Flame Keep.

The turquoise sky was turning purple, and the moon was peeking among the trees when she smelled and then saw the swamp, which she had noted on her map along with other information gathered from locals along the way. The the map she had discerned that the swamp lay between the River of Flowers and the River of Light.

The purple sky was almost black when the warm glow of a well tended fire caused her to investigate.

There, on a dry piece of land, rested a group of elves. They had a campfire up and crackling. When they saw Elessar coming, one of them got up and invited her to rest the night with them. It was always safer to be in groups during the nights.

"Gladly, I accept." replies Elessarae dismounting and immediately tending her mount and the colt before joining the others at the fire. She added such supplies as she had and a fine meal was shared.

That night, by the fire, one of the elves shared with them a tale about the area between the two rivers. The legend told of the two spirits of the Duin Lotesira and the Rilma Duin coming together on the stretch of land where the two rivers came closest. Their love sprouted flowers, so special and enchanted, they gave light in the darkness. These plants carried an essence of healing, but only bloomed when the River of Light shone at its brightest. It was said that only then the spirit of the Duin Lotesire could perceive her lover, and that her happiness gave life to the flowers.

Elessarae had reason to revere the River of Light and the story they told tugged at her bardic heart strings. Thinking of a fitting words to express her feeling she suddenly remembered that she had packed her good harp to take it home, but with all that had happened she had not done so. So from her magical haversack she took out her harp and began to pick out a melody. With it came words that flowed from her, a easily as a river flows and soon she brought all together with a song. By the end of the song tears fell from her eyes, such was the pathos of the story and the song she created.

At the end of the song she let the quiet of the forest, which is never really quiet, seep back into camp.

Sitting quietly she suddenly remembers something else, "How far is it to the River of Flowers?" She askes the others.

Subject: Moving out

As Cerric moved her hand away from the stallion, he was gratified to see a couple of silky white hairs in his hands. Even as he wondered what would come of conjuring a mount using the hairs, he found a large set of purple eyes fixed on him. The paladin's mount almost seemed to raise a brow, and it continued to watch him as he spoke the enchantation to summons a mount.

When all was said and done, the mount that stood before Cerric was different than any he had ever conjured. She was everything one could think of as a horse, in many ways much like the mount of the Paladin, powerful, graceful, magnificent. Her body was a deep gold dappled by bright golden spots all over her coat. White as snow, her long silken mane hung to her shoulders and her tail swept the ground. She turned her exquiste head and her large, intelligent eyes watched Cerric until he mounted. The mare's eyes were deep green tinged with blue, like matching emeralds of the finest quality. She wore a bitless bridle and a saddle all in deep emerald green.

Moments later Vatta rode up having missed the conjuring in getting her own mount and personal belongings.

Wagons and Riders moved out crossing the Ashaba River for which the town was named. It was just a short ride to the Rider's headquarters where some of the militia exited the wagons and other assembled climbed in.

From the orders being given it is easy to figure out that part of the milita and Riders would stay to protect the town and that (The Riders is the name of a group of Mistdale inhabitants that patrol the Moonsea Road. They were also instumental in turning back a 7000 strong army of Zhent warriors during the Time of Troubles.) the rest of the militia and Riders would go to aid Eventide, and set up defenses along the road to Ashbenford should any Orcs try to make for the town.

Conversations between Riders and militia reveal why a nuimber of youths of fast looking horses rode out from the Headquarters. They were to carry messages to the nearest settlemenets. Normally alarm bells could have been wrung, but the strategists of the Riders decided that would also alert the Orcs and possibly cause them to strike early.

Riders and wagons turned out on the road north. Many of the militia carried polearms as well as some other melee weapon. One wagon seemed to hold only archers, armed with crossbows and bows of all sorts.

One saving grace to all this was the rains of yesterday afternoon. The road was still damp enough to keep the dust from flying in the air. Still the wagons moved at a fast trot, slowing now and then to give the wagon horses a breather.

ROUND 1

The Orcs cry out with glee seeming to have run their quarry up a tree. They race forward not spotting Brianna and Highnar who now bring their weapons to bear.

Brianna fires on the lead Orc (1) her first shot hits him AC 37 for 4 HP of damage (x2 pain effect)right at the apex of his legs, in his manhood, drawing him up short.

Highnar Goldblade fires his new repeating crossbow and hits AC 28 for 3 HP of damage another of the Orcs (3) in the shoulder.

Brianna quickly redraws her readied arrow and gets off a second shot on the Orc she first hit. She wanted to put him down first before changing targets. She hits Orc (1) AC 23 for 6 HP of damage in the abdomin.

The Orcs move forward though the two wounded are slowing. From the rear a voice grunts out in Orcish. For those who understand Orcish, “Dodge, you oafs.”

Brianna’s gets off her third shot and hits the same Orc in the right shoulder AC 16 for 4 HP of damage.

Logan waits for the Orcs to close to melee range and Xuor finishes his scramble up the tree and finds a firing position.
